SalsaDubai, your reply was very reassuring to read. Me and my husband are both spontaneous people who love an adventure but with our three kids we really did not think that there should be a compromise when their security is involved. We had been to Italy back in 2008 and it was a lovely experience all around even when I was wearing my abaya. Thanks for taking the time to write those kind words and God bless.

Go to Dr. Helfi. He's very well known and skilled especially among the Emirati population and he's always booked. Only problem is he's based in Abu Dhabi. We had both of our sons circumcised at his clinic. It's called Helfi Clinic and the place is inside a building on Electra Street by the Honda showroom.

Langkawi island in Malaysia is beyond gorgeous. The Andaman Hotel is located on the island in the middle of a tropical rain forest. You can see all sorts of beautiful and wild animals. Our nature tour guide said a crew from the National Geographic came to do a feature at their hotel. The view is magical. There are lots of activities for kids (water sports and hotel-supplied beach toys) and I'm especially fond of their breakfast.

I tailor my abayas from Hanayen for 250 dirhams (plain style, Saudi crepe textile). I don't know why there are so many expensive abayas quoted in this thread.

If money is not a factor I'd recommend Indego by Vineet every. time. Seriously, fantastic thali and food in general. They have a thali offer for lunch daily except for the weekend.

Been to The Maldives but not Seychelles. While The Maldives was gorgeous I honestly would not return there again. Full of insects of every possible kind and we stayed at a five start resort. I'd go to Langkawi in Malaysia at The Andaman. Gorgeous island and fantastic resort. We took our kids both times by the way (2 and 6 years old).

Couldn't agree more with everything you've said, GMKSME. Asking a deliberately provocative "question" then feigning dismay and shock when people happen to take it in exactly the inflammatory way you intended.

Sal 123> My husband was concerned about the distances between places in Sri Lanka too. He really wants to see the many waterfalls. Someone mentioned on this forum that Srivillas was amazing but when I go to their website they don't put prices! Glad to hear you had a good time, btw. :) jessp> Yes, I am really looking forward to relaxing on the beach, to be honest! Thanks for the offer but with sites like booking.com I don't really need a travel agent.

Hi katnip, not sure if this is what u require but i have a box called WD TV Live which connects to my tv, and i connect an external USB hard drive to the TV Live box to watch video files. could this be a solution for you? I need something much simpler except with a regular-sized USB. But I'll run it by my husband (he's the one who needs it) and see if it's okay. He wanted to stream the media file directly from his laptop. Thanks for taking the time to post this. <3

Christa Strauss is a clinical psychologist and does testing for adults ADD/ADHD.Her email is [email protected]. Her number is +971504549096. She operates in Knowledge Village Block 18 above Starbucks. I can highly recommend her. She diagnosed my son with ADHD. She just confirmed to me by email she was also diagnosing adults. Good luck! Thank you so much, fjcruiser! You have no idea how much I appreciate it. God bless. <3

It's convenient and it's cheap. There's also a massive lack of awareness. If they ran campaigns at the local schools encouraging parents to send in healthy food I think it would help a lot. Back in my Arab school days a regular lunch consisted of a zaatar/cheese sandwich, crisps and a juice box or laban. Healthy stuff, more or less. Junk food like KFC and McDonald's were a very rare treat when we went on a school trip. So you might think that the school encourages it when it's only on these trips do the kids get to have junk food. As for the kids who are already overweight the parents are to blame, not the school, I think.

Hello, I just want to know where I can get correctly diagnosed for ADD/ADHD. I have no motivation to do anything. Have been like this for years. It's ruining my life. Years are passing by and my goals are just collecting dust, so to speak. I've tried going and getting help in Abu Dhabi but the doctors were terrible. They were dismissive and nonchalant. I don't know if I haven't found the right person. If anyone can please help me I would be so appreciative. I don't know what to do. All the symptoms of ADD apply to me. I just want to know if there is any medication I can take that can help me overcome this disease.

I highly recommend going to Langkawi in Malaysia. It's this small island that's absolutely gorgeous and relaxing with lots of wildlife and amazing greenery. It's sunny and the the sea and sky are intensely blue each time we've been. We went to The Andaman Hotel each time and couldn't have been happier. We would literally camp out on the beach from morning until the sun went down. The breakfast is excellent and the staff are fantastic. National Geographic actually filmed a documentary there featuring the dusky leaf monkey which you can see all around the surrounding forest. I have two small kids (6 and 2 year olds) and we went canoeing together in our life jackets. There are a bunch of other water sports equipment that you can hire for a small fee. We regretted going to Kuala Lumpur as it simply doesn't compare to the sheer joy of relaxing on that Langkawi beach. It's a cheap holiday and oh so worth it.

I'm amazed it's stocked here, too. Maybe officials are now more aware and that's why it's harder to find. I advised a new Muslim mother against using it as she hadn't known it contained alcohol.

This hadith is exactly what you need: "The worst of shepherds is the ungentle, who causes the beasts to crush or bruise one another." (Muslim) Also, the Prophet said: "There is no man who kills a sparrow or anything beyond that, without its deserving it, but God will ask him about it." (Ahmad and al-Nasai) From the Quran: “There is not an animal in the earth, nor a flying creature flying on two wings, but they are peoples like unto you. We have neglected nothing in the Book (of Our decrees). Then unto their Lord they will be gathered.” (Quran 6:38) The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “A woman entered **** because of a cat which she tied up and did not feed, nor did she let it loose to feed upon the vermin of the earth.” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, a prostitute saw a dog lolling around a well on a hot day and hanging his tongue from thirst, so she drew some water for it in her shoe and Allah forgave her.” “The Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, passed by a man who was sharpening his knife while had his foot on one side of the face of a sheep (holding it to the ground), and it was looking up at him. The Prophet said: ‘Couldn’t you have done this beforehand? You wish to kill it many times.’” And “Sharpen your knives, so that you make it easy for the slaughtering animal.” (Saheeh Muslim) I hope this helped.

I've had chronic constipation since I was about 13 or so. It's my own fault because I rarely eat vegetables and don't drink water unless I've been in the sun for hours or something. I've found the easiest solution and a GUARANTEE to fix it is to eat a small salad every night before going to bed. Cut up a tomato, cucumber, lettuce and carrots and you can dress it if you like but it's not necessary. Works like a charm.

I laughed at this. I can honestly say I've never encountered a pink abaya readymade or otherwise (yet). Your best bet is to go to a tailor and try your luck anyway especially as it's for a little girl and will be less work. Good luck.

I've done this for nearly the last month and have lost a significant amount of weight. Breakfast: Bran flakes + low fat milk Snack: Fruit Lunch: Any kind of sandwich (no burgers!) Dinner: Salad Diet drinks can be consumed as you wish. No fruit juices. I do an hour of elliptical every day though 30 minute exercise would be good, too. If you have to have something sweet let it be one portion of Jell-o, sugar-free (not necessarily) if you can find it. Good luck. edited by katnip on 28/05/2013

Baidh w Tamaat (literally eggs and tomatoes in Arabic.) Sautee onions in olive oil. Add pureed garlic. Add chopped tomatoes. Pour in eggs and scramble it. Add salt and black pepper and a little cumin and/or paprika and chilli. Positively delicious with pita bread.

Wow, thank you everyone for the kind and informative suggestions! In the past I had a physical and while I did not have anemia nor a thyroid issue I was lacking in vitamin D. Better get back to the clinic for more supplements - I hope this is the reason. Ginnee> I felt an affinity to your answer. I feel a lot of guilt for the life I lead because there is just so much suffering in the world. Maybe I am depressed and just don't know it? I hope this doesn't sound pretentious. Again, thank you everyone, I really hope for a fresh start and to get motivated for life again.

I don't understand the mocking of "guyliner" here. I thought for Western women who've been here a while in the UAE/gulf region that they would know it's common practice for men to wear kohl. It's unisex in Islam especially that it was used by Prophet Mohammed but for medicinal purposes, not aesthetics. Eyeliner ≠ kohl/kajal.

OP> If you're American it's because Big Pharma are a bunch of crooks who live on destroying sick people's lives and getting filthy rich in the process. If you've ever watched Michael Moore's Sicko there was an anecdote of a woman who was bogged down with hefy bills over her medicine for some sort of chronic illness and when they went down to Mexico it was sold for pennies, the woman breaking down in tears and hardly believing it. Also, take into consideration countries like India makes generic medicine for cheap. For example, they used to sell Reductil for 270aed or close to it here and over there it sold for 38aed for 30 capsules. Brands vs. generic can make a difference but the active ingredients are the same.

You couldn't pay me to go back to India. DH was transferred there for a year in 2010 and I went with him not to Mumbai but Delhi. The culture shock was tremendous. Filthy, dusty, disorganized, crowded beyond belief but worse of all is the abject poverty. Poverty beyond my imagination. I have memories from there that will always haunt me. I felt like **** just doing everyday things when you see a woman and her children lain on the street dogs sniffing at their backs, children literally in rags. Grown men with bodies like children dragging weights in carts across the street ten times their size. Police abusing their power with nary an objection. Every time you stop at a red light pathetic beggars knocking at your window. Children begging at every turn. I saw a kid literally naked in the street once. Dogs so lethargic and hungry they just litter the streets like corpses. It was an eye-opening experience. I have to say the Indian people were amongst the friendliest and kindest that I had the pleasure of meeting. That's amazing to me. To live in that kind of atmosphere and have such big hearts where some people in so-called first world countries can come across so ungrateful and cruel.
