I also use UAE card but registered a fake US address, like 123 Expatwoman Street, choose state, and random zip code. Cheeky, I know! I'm pretty sure they know about this loophole and as long as they're getting their cash, don't care.

I stayed at Nikko in Nusa Dua. And I wouldn't say it's far out. It wasn't a long drive from the airport. Not sure of the current prices but I remember it not being outrageous. Hope it helps.

I've been to both. Forget Tokyo Disney. Not worth it. The lines are MONSTROUS. They just go on and on. So absolutely crowded even in the middle of the week. Now Hong Kong Disneyland is one that's worth traveling to. And Hong Kong is more touristy in general (Japan... not so much) and there's tons of things to do there other than Disneyworld.

Have to strongly disagree about the UAE and the UK being the same, morally. In the article it mentions "pr0n will find them." Etisalat, for its many faults, usually does a great service to me and my children. Stumbling upon it accidentally is not as common as in an unfiltered UK connection. Also, Western parents would I think instill the fear of the law into their children (if not simply morals) here because having pre-martial sexual relations can get them into legal trouble. There's a big campaign against skimpy clothing in the UAE lead by @UAEDressCode at Twitter and supported by many others.

OP, been there, done that. Thankfully second time around it wasn't so bad. What I found helped the most was talking it out and NOT bottling up your feelings, no matter how trivial. It helps tremendously to have someone to talk to, a family member or a friend, preferably and ideally your mother or a close blood-related female relative who has had children. She will know exactly where you're coming from. Don't let the baby stop you from doing the things you love, is my topmost advice. If you like to draw, then take maybe even 10 minutes and draw something. If you're nursing, have a book that you enjoy and re-read it. Watch cartoons, make jokes, get out of the house with your baby. Just walk outside and reflect on how much more beautiful your life will be with your baby once the first horrendous year is over (where there is little sleep and consequently little sanity). Remember that this too shall pass. God bless and good luck and I hope you find a doctor. Surprisingly, I've found the doctors at The Dubai Mall Clinic to be very professional and able. Why don't you try giving them a call? xx

Hate when this happens. Not to hijack your thread, but in the UK, on channel 4 I think, they broadcast an Asian-themed animated film with Asian emperors near a beach and Asian dragons. There were children and I think one of them was presented as fillets/sashimi for the emperor and/or dragon under the sea! I was horrified as a child but I never forgot it! Anyone remember this? :) Sorry again, OP, and good luck with your movie search.

Honestly, cymraes, I say go for it. I know there is a risk of having an unhealthy baby according to studies but I see, in this Arabic culture, women your age having babies all the time and having healthy babies, too. I would pray for it and then go for it. You only live once.

Feeling outnumbered! I hate the rain and can't wait for it to stop. The weather this week has been perfect - until now! Everyone get you umbrellas out and put your bbqs in the shed. That should get rid of it. Nah, I feel the same. Sunny and cool is my kinda weather. Rain? Not so much.

May Allah have mercy on his soul. Remember to pray for him at every prayer (I'm assuming you're a Muslim.) Remember the hadith of the prophet: “When the son of Adam dies, all his good deeds come to an end, apart from three: sadaqah jaariyah (ongoing charity, such as a waqf or endowment), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous son who will pray for him.” xx

My favorite book is The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. A bit predictable but it resonates with me so much. My second favorite is probably The Good Earth by Pearl Buck and the third is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Lifesaver, in my opinion. My DS loves rice and won't eat sandwiches any more. I put in everything a kabsa needs and leave it alone. In about 25 minutes it's done when you hear the "click" go from Cook to Warm. I'd recommend transferring the rice into a container after that as the "warm" setting actually burns the rice after a while, I've found. Black & Decker is my brand.

I'd suggest taking a vacation with your husband. Like, at most three weeks. Travel around Asia, it's really cheap especially if you use Air Asia. If you still feel heavy and dread coming back to Dubai than the feeling is not temporary and something should be done. Good luck.

Romney is a racist, sexist, classist bigot who backtracks on issues he's supposed to be steadfast on especially before he's secured a position in office. He will say anything to win. Obama hasn't closed Gitmo or stopped drone attacks on Afghanistan, Iraq and Yemen so it's not like I'm rooting for this guy, either. He's just the lesser of two evils. I just want Obama to win to spite the racists.

mpp_jl> If you're still checking this thread could you answer a few questions? I was with mum on the phone today and she's very interested in your crash diet! She suffers from arthritis and she's desperately trying to lose weight fast. She's asking if any type of bread can be consumed? How many times can you have these "meals"? She's skeptical she can consume endlessly. Is any time of day okay to eat? Does it have to be consumed with yogurt or can the bread be eaten alone? Thanks in advance. :)

Hey, OP. I don't like how some people here aren't taking it seriously. I wasn't going to post my experience first since you made the "sacrifice" of posting yourself but maybe it'll make someone think twice. I went about one month back to get botox done at Kaya Clinic. Everything went well enough until the third day. On and off all day I felt like my ears were blocked. Sitting there talking I was straining to hear the people sitting right next to me. I was silly, I didn't think it had anything to do with the botox. I had a cold at the time of the clinic appointment (BIG MISTAKE) so I wasn't feeling my best. When I went to sleep it escalated badly. I felt great discomfort in my ears and I began sobbing so hard. I couldn't believe what I'd gotten myself into. I prayed and prayed that I would be okay and that my hearing would be okay. I researched my symptoms like a maniac and read that there were people who suffered the exact same symptoms and spent YEARS with it. The next day, like magic, it had disappeared. You can't believe how relieved and thankful I was. Yes, my crow's feet had disappeared completely I couldn't stop smiling at my reflection like an idiot in the mirror. The wrinkles (when I smile) had given my self-esteem such a beating but now I felt great. Once the effects go away I'm not sure I would go back to get it done again. I felt like I was lucky that nothing permanent had happened to my hearing. I think the botox was "settling" or perhaps too much had been used (6 units by either eye). If this helps anyone I don't regret sharing it. I think the OP is very generous for sharing her story with everyone.

DH cooked tonight as well, and yes it is a treat, but also frustrating, as it takes him half the day to cook the same thing I would cook in 40 mins... I did have a chuckle when I walked into the kitchen this evening and saw a ruler on the countertop.... I had to ask him what it was for and his reply was.... I had to make sure all the vegetables were 2 inches according to the recipe! Aaaaaarrrgghhhh! You made my day. Thanks for posting that. :)

For KL I would never go with anything but the Meridien. Their breakfast is a one of a kind experience. I'm not kidding. For Langkawi go for The Andaman. It's so beautiful that the National Geographic filmed footage for a documentary on the dusky leaf monkey. My only complaint regarding it is that it's a ways away from the airport but I don't reckon you'll leave much once you get there.

I delayed the vaccination of my second child for as long as possible. I've read a lot about side effects of autism and although I had no issues with the vaccination of my first child you never knew when a "mistake" could hit. Then he got what seemed like measles on his body. I was terrified out of my mind and I blamed myself for it so much because if I had vaccinated him he wouldn't have it. I took him to the doctor that night and she said that it had been a three year record of no measles in the UAE so it couldn't possibly be that. It turned out what he had was just a fever post effect rash that LOOKED like the measles. I learned my lesson. I took him to get vaccinated. It's been months and he seems healthy as ever, thank Allah. Saying all that, to be honest, if the schools here did not require proof of the vaccination of your children perhaps I wouldn't have taken the risk.

Hey, OP. What a lousy thing to say to a Muslim. She doesn't seem to understand her own religion. Here's a hadith prophet Mohammed said that talks about this very thing amongst Muslims: "All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by [b'>piety and good action[/b'>." So I would either educate her or ignore her. As for this strange inconsistency reflect on this hadith: The Messenger of Allah was seated in a gathering with the Sahabah when he looked towards the entrance and said, “A man of Paradise is coming.” At that instance someone who seemed to be very ordinary entered the mosque where they were seated. A Sahabi was curious as to why the Prophet said this, so he followed the man to his house. This Sahabi told the man that he was a traveler and stayed as a guest. For three days the Sahabi saw nothing unusual, so he finally told the man what the Prophet had said and asked him what was so special. The man thought for a long time and said, [b'>“There might be one thing — before going to sleep every night I forgive everyone and sleep with a clean heart."[/b'> xx

Ooh, I have the perfect answer for this because in my fantasies I've considered this, too. It's the farthest Princess Island in Istanbul, Turkey. :) There aren't even cars there because the roads can't accommodate it and the island's too small for it. There are honest to God horse carriages (really for tourism, but still) actively going around the island. Restaurants facing the sea, large seagulls, cats, beautiful nature, pleasant weather, barnacles, fantastic views. It's like the place is suspended in time. God, I miss it so much. There was even a stereotypical British cat lady who had bought a property there, not even kidding! We met her sitting in her recliner surrounded by cats in front of her house, and she said how she'd take in any stray cats and nurse them to health / take care of them. The island has a high point upon which is a church as I recall. The houses are modest and full of character. Children on bikes, people going about their business on tiny strips of lawn. If there is somewhere like this I would love to go but that is something I've seen for myself and I highly recommend it. The ferry that goes out to it I think journeys twice a day? Takes about two hours, I believe, though I am not not known for my accurate memory, haha.
