That was really rude of the local lady to take your kid like that. I'm pretty sure she would not have done it with another local lady's kid, to be honest. Maybe they thought you were a pushover and you wouldn't object. But DO object next time, just do it with a smile and they will immediately get it, I guarantee it.

I would rather go to India and get my full body instead of dealing with the Silkor scam artists. They gave me the "It depends" BS when I called a long time back and then when I insisted she said "5000aed for [u'>ONE[/u'> FULL BODY SESSION." I had my full body done in Delhi for 10,000aed. 8 sessions each for the FULL BODY. So your arms, 8 sessions, face 8 sessions, legs 8 sessions...etc. And they were so diligent, too. I don't understand how the salons, spas...etc get away with such outrageous prices.

Did they outlaw kosher circumcision too or is it just special treatment for Muslims? That's what I'd like to know.

In the end, the maid is really an individual with her own hopes and aspirations. Maybe she feels she won't find another man at her age (don't know how old she is, but some women have this concern). If you really feel worried you can sit her down and have a chat about it. Whatever her decision you'd have at least said your part and never regret that you stayed quiet.

Story of my life, MissFortune. I had a good cry this morning, too. oh no why? Sorry, didn't feel like I was fishing for pity, but I just feel so overwhelmed. I feel like a failure, I can't do anything right.

Er, "warding off the evil eye" by an object is unIslamic as you're attributing power to an inanimate object which is against the essence of Islam (oneness of God/Allah). You can cause offense by giving it but I'm sure they will not show it as you "don't get it" since you're not Muslim. (I'm assuming). Sorry if I'm annoying anyone by this post but that's the truth of it.

I use the low fat Laban (almari, red label I think) in my scones and they taste great. I did see in Park and Shop buttermilk this week. I think it was about 15dhs where as laban for 500ml is about 3dhs. I use regular Laban Up and my cake turns out beautifully.

Hey Sugar (formerly Sugar Daddy's) in Galeries Lafayette in Dubai Mall (1st floor). I've tried every cupcake shop in the UAE and Hey Sugar, IMHO, is the best. I find Kitsch has a shortening flavour/texture I can't stand. Though I don't appreciate Hey Sugar increasing the price of a cupcake to 14aed when it was 12aed. I don't understand why they're so expensive they're too greedy.

Genie, unfortunately it was too short notice so couldn't get an appointment with Dr. Hoshy. I'm holding hope for it to be a fungal issue as I've read on this forum of similar incidents. A strange thing is that my neighbour's girl got it the same time my son got it so that's why I think it might be fungal as I don't really think vitiligo is contagious and it was too much of a coincidence... Dragon, could you give me the name of the fungal cream? I'd like to start it with my son. Thanks for the replies.

Do not buy the gold coin for the boy! Sure, if it was a girl tiny gold studs would be great but for a boy a basket of clothes and a teddy bear would be more than appropriate.

am confused as to why you would ask the question if you are going to paying full price - it's not like they ask you for residency visa or job position on the gate I am asking the question, because my friend told me that even if I pay full price for her to enter that they may not let her swim since it has happened to her at various beach clubs in the past. Wow, that's messed up and so racist. I read about that happening in Lebanon but never thought it could happen here?

Hi Synthia. Just wondering where you read that the movie caused suicides in Japan? A friend of mine told me. I'm not surprised though, since Avatar caused a similar trend: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1242409/The-Avatar-effect-Movie-goers-feel-depressed-suicidal-able-visit-utopian-alien-planet.html What's your friend's source, though? I did a quick Google search and nothing came up.

Sorry for bringing up this old thread but can someone give me the name of a Chinese supermarket (or any shop, really!) where I may buy wheat starch? I am dying to make some good har gao at home. Also, where can I buy yellow wonton skins/wrappers (I'm assuming with egg) for siu mai? The gyoza wheat and water ones at Waitrose don't cut it. ...Anyone seen tobiko/masago and crab roe? TIA!

If you have anyone going to India, let them bring back Slim Trim with them. Cheap at approximately 38 dirhams for 30 tablets and they work without heart paltipations but you have to drink plenty of water and take the tablet 8 hours before sleep to prevent insomnia. Sibutramine is the active ingredient which was also available in Reductil. Reductil made me depressed, though - Slim Trim didn't. Sibutramine a.k.a. Meridia works according to the seratonin passageways. You do not know how someone will react to this pharm unless you understand their seratonin levels. For a person with low seratonin it will actually make them more hungry--not a toy for people who do not know what they are doing. Bad idea. Thanks for putting that out there, Beebers. I definitely didn't know about the seratonin thing. I was just relaying my personal experience.

Hmm, cheezels sounds pretty similar to an Omani crisps product called Pappy Snacks. You can find it in any corner grocery. Here's a pic: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/32/46154596_db3c352b6f.jpg

Roxan, thank you for your concern. I have to say that it's a nerve-wracking prospect. I don't have children of my own and the thought of having a (nearly) grown-up step-son living with us is quite alarming. I don't know what we would do if he doesn't attend school or pull his weight around the house and we would have to talk well in advance of him arriving about exactly what our expectations of him were. But, on the other hand, I think that if it's something he really wants to do then we have to give him the opportunity. If it doesn't work out then it could damage the relationship between DSS and DH, but not giving it the chance could do the same thing. Just want to say it's great that you're giving him the opportunity to prove himself and hopefully he's up to the challenge and doesn't disappoint either you nor his dad.

Had exact same problem with DS and was using Bambi at the time. Now am using Pampers the size that goes up to 20kg (he was 9kg when I changed) and NO LEAKS since then. Try going up one size and see if it helps.

I've just been to the one in Deira yesterday to visit the fabulous Seaworld restaurant. Be prepared for amazing decor - at least, that's what I got from their lobby. I unfortunately have not stayed at the hotel. Hope someone else can help you there. How was the food? We were thinking of going there too. Heard the restaurant in the Asiana hotel in deira are quite good as well... Food was fantastic. As we hadn't had it in forever, we ordered the (Omani) lobster thermidor and it was such a treat! We also chose a hamour and made them split it into a Thai "red curry" and "yellow curry". Wouldn't recommend the red but the "yellow curry" was delicious. :)

Well I've just had one of those moments, my agency maid has just told me, ''Errm Madam, how to say? errm before you very tin, now you get fat'' I just said, ''Well that's not a nice thing to say is it?'' (then burst into tears the moment she left). I actually haven't gained nor lost any weight since I've been using her, but she won't be coming again and I will tell her supervisor why not. Aww, hugs. Sounds like something I would have done to be honest. Then again, you can't be accused of being "sensitive" in the face of that! edited by katnip on 12/03/2012

DD's crib is also in our bedroom. what time do you put him to bed? do you still give him the dream feed? toys yeah, toys but not the ones he play with..more of to snuggle with.. He went to bed last night at 10pm so I was expecting a good night. He got up around 1am when I was getting ready to go to sleep (if I go to sleep early I end up awake for most of the night so have to stay up a bit) and stayed up until 4am. He MUST feed during the night he wakes up several times and will not quiet back down without nursing. The toys I gave him were all cuddly, actually. I'm afraid he's inherited my putrid genes (let's see if anyone gets that!) and he's a very light sleeper like me.
