I put him down one more time before he slept. I'm dreading tonight. Last night I had to stay up until 4 in the morning because little baby would get up every single time. His crib's in I and DH's bedroom so have to get him out of there so DH can sleep (I'm a SAHM). I can't put his crib in another room since if I get up between sleeping to tend to him I will chase away whatever sleepiness I have (I'm a chronic insomniac). It's a bit of a catch-22 but I put in toys as suggested and he was a bit taken aback and played a little before getting bored and getting up again. Hopefully he'll grow out of it. :(

Is he only standing or actually getting out of the crib? If he's only standing then I think it might be time for some tough love. He has to learn how to go to sleep on his own. He's standing, not getting out, Thank the LORD! He's back there, crying now. Standing sure enough. I put him down to sleep and then he ends up getting up again! I don't know what to do other than saran wrap the bars!

Can anyone recommend a creamy, smooth cheesecake recipe versus the usual crumbly dry cheesecake you can purchase anywhere in cafes and such? I tried a creamy, smooth one once and was in heaven. That restaurant was also in India, alas. TIA. <em>edited by katnip on 23/12/2011</em>

If you can't find it readymade here's a recipe: Ingredients 1 large onion, chopped into small pieces 300ml (1/2 pint) milk 1 heaped teaspoon Dijon mustard 30g (1 oz) butter 1 tablespoon cornflour salt (if required to taste) black pepper 1.Chop the onion into small pieces (saving some of the onion near to the root). Add to a pan of boiling water and boil on a moderate heat for approximately 15 minutes to soften slightly. 2.Melt the butter in a saucepan, and when melted add the cornflour and stir into a thick 'paste'. 3.Slowly add the milk a little at a time stirring continually to combine with the 'paste'. 4.When the onions are cooked add them to this white sauce. Add the Dijon mustard, black pepper and salt (to taste), turn down heat and continually stirring, cook until sauce thickens. 5.Remove saucepan from heat and grate the remaining onion into the sauce, this will give it a stronger flavour.

How old are they? My son has always been sympathetic to me when I'm asleep, even going so far as to admonish my husband when he's loud saying "mama's sleeping". He's been that way since he was two or so. He's four now. I don't know why I got the feeling that your daughters are old enough to know better even though I went through your post again to see if you've mentioned their ages. If your partner is with you he should stand with you against this so your daughters take it seriously. I'm a chronic insomniac so I sympathize with your plight deeply. Consider going to your clinic to get Zopiclone. I don't use it on a daily basis, only when I know for a certainty that I will not get any sleep. Also, if someone can babysit your daughters for a couple of hours in the early morning you should get some rest then, too. I had my in-laws help out a lot when I was going through the worst of it. Don't sleep at noon and NEVER in the afternoon if you want to get a good night's sleep. Best wishes.

Hey, Apricot! Thanks for replying to my thread... I thought it had died a pathetic death never to be revived again. I went to Sharaf DG in Dubai Mall and only found a Gaggia with its own motor and everything but it uses alcohol or a saline solution and I don't want to use that to make my frozen yogurt. I found a beautiful De Longhi at Galeries Lafayette (also in DM) but it's 1500 aed. Is this a normal price or is it selling anywhere else in Dubai for lower? I might have to go for it otherwise!

Which company is this?? Seriously, the customer service level in this country is unbelievable! I honestly fail to be surprised any more here! I have found I can buy groceries from Choithram in the Greens without most staff speaking a single word to me! (don't go there any more!) Er... Maybe the staff aren't in the mood to talk? I usually go through my carrefour/lulu transactions without convos, either!

From the title... My Cuisinart Ice cream Maker got fried... It's my own fault really for trying to turn this item I got off the American Amazon here in the UAE completely ignoring the difference of voltage and wishing it to work with the power of positive thinking. There was smoke and everything. Is it "safe" to say that this item is completely useless and there's no need to even try to repair it? And in that case, what ice cream maker would you recommend I buy here in the UAE and motor-powered and where can I buy it? TIA. :(

Are they worth it - only you would know. I would gladly pay through the nose for wine gums.... Wine gums are reasonably priced in M&S. Also, their jaffa cakes are to die for. The raspberry viennese biscuits, too. Cocktail prawn crisps are delicious...etc.

"In Australian English it is a colloquial term for a male social misfit or a person without friends, originating from the name being unusual in the 1980s and alliterating with 'no-friends'." ...According to the 2010 Macquarie Australian English Dictionary, anyway. :P I've always liked the name Nigel, though!

I think the childish drawing should go. It really has nothing to do with the Expat Woman. I think a distinctive redesign rendering of the words "Expat Woman" should suffice in stead. Font is hard to read, seriously headache-inducing. User names should be bigger and bolder than the entry texts. Colour palette should be customizable. Login box should be javascript based so we don't have to go to a separate page to log in. I really think using a script like vBulletin should address most of these issues.

Hello Pinks! I was just on the Adobe page comparing the types. It'd be nice to have Flash though it's not essential in my case. Same goes for Dreamweaver. So I guess it's the Premium or the Standard... Wonder how much those cost in a place like iStyle. Guess it's time to hit the shops. :) Edit: Just called Suwaidi Computers and they sell the STANDARD for 5900!!!! Yeah, I don't think I'll be buying anytime soon, sigh... <em>edited by katnip on 15/06/2011</em>

Haha at the people balking at 3 or 5 children! I come from a family of seven of which I am the oldest so my ideal 5 is kind of moderate. :P My husband comes from a family of nine. My mother from a family of ten. Yes, we are Arabs! I just like seeing how my grandparents or my parents are surrounded by their children as they get older. Some people are loners but I think it's reassuring to be surrounded by your immediate family as you age. Just my 2 fils. :)

After 2 consecutive c-sections this might prove to be a bit difficult as far as I know. Though I'm not sure in your case since you had a vaginal delivery in-between. An acquaintance of mine has had five successful c-sections and I'm hoping this can happen for me as well.

I recently opened an Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank savings account for the main reason of freelancing as well. Minimum balance is 500 dirhams, didn't ask for a salary certificate. Gave me Visa card and I think they might have given me a cheque book had I asked, too. Good luck.

Have to add to the bad experience at LV. Went into the branch at Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi to buy a wallet for my DH. Sales assistants acted snotty, barely acknowledging, leaving me with a rack of men's wallets before walking away and I surely was not going to beg for their attention or knowledge, as it were. I did buy the wallet in the end and I mainly posted to say I did this in an abaya and burqa/niqab so don't assume that wearing one will get you any "respect". I did also have the audacity to shop there with nary a designer brand on my person. At least my husband liked the gift? Oh well. Last time I buy from them, though.

ha ha ha ha this reminds me once when I told a Japanese friend he had something stuck in his teeth. He got all puffed and asked "how can you say that, aren't you embarrassed?" and I told him I'd rather know if it was me. He said that its more embarrassing/shameful for the person who has to tell the other that they have something in their teeth!! LOL Haha, that's pretty funny! Hopefully he's still your friend. :P

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I had a c-section with my four year old because he was a breech baby and we weren't risking complications. That was in Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi. We still live in AD and I'm already 9 months pregnant and the baby's position is normal this time around so I'm thinking it's a natural birth. I'm torn between having another c-section and the thought of limited babies. I want to decide for myself how manyI want, not be under mercy of my scar tissue for future pregnancies. On the other hand, I already have a c-section scar and now I'll be torn "down there," worried about having a loose v, stitching, s e x after pregnancy and all that jazz I didn't need to worry about with my first. It's literally keeping me awake at night but this baby will be born one way or another. God bless and thanks for reading.

Just to be sure, ask her if she'd been using any skin bleaching creams. If she'd been and then subjected her skin to long hours in the sun then it might be a common hydroquinone side effect. Lots of Philippines-made creams have hydroquinone in them. Otherwise good luck helping her deal with it if it's not related to bleaching.

Apricot: My 3 year old son is addicted to all sweets of all kinds, doesn't really discriminate much. :P Delighted: You really think it's french buttercream they use? Thanks for the quick reply, Waxmuch. It's funny you should mention shortening as it's exactly what put me off Kitsch Cupcakes for good. Their frosting is FULL of shortening which I feel is just icky as the taste is extremely artificial and leaves a grainy film on the tongue. Though perhaps if it's just a little it might make all the difference. Thanks for the well wishes, I've really been looking for a while!

If you mix egg yolk with food colouring (the super strong paste ones - Wilton) you can then use it as 'paint' and us a paint brush to color the cut out biscuit mix, then cook as usual. I'm sure you could use it for other applications but if you use egg yolk you should be cooking it after you paint it to set it and also raw egg is dodgy! We made fab christmas cookie this way. Stars etc with fancy christmas colours. Hope this helps! Thanks so much, famn! I was looking up how-tos online but haven't come across this way. I'll definitely try it out. :)

I think Scarlet and Rhett's relationship was electric. Hated how it ended up and her obsession with that useless Ashley. I read the book about a year ago and was STUNNED at the massive racism and various justifications. I felt so conflicted and disgusted! Better just focus on the romantic aspects to enjoy it, I guess.

LOL - i know what you mean, why can't they do pretty girly colours rather than grey!!! I understand that Kitchen Aid used to be the choice of catering professionals (had them in the kitchen i worked in) but understand that they have recently been bought out and now the quality is not what it used to be - have become mass marketed. To be honest, i only went it to that store the other day as i remember someone asking and i was walking past - the KA dont have a slot where a blitzer / coffee grinder will fit - but the kenwoods do - so in theory, your Kenwood will be able to do everything you need. If you bake a lot, should also look at getting the plastic / porcelain bowls as the stainless steel ones can colour certain food types. Thanks for the heads up, Izzy! Kenwood it is then. :)
