Think before you plant trees and real grass. These take up a lot of watering. We had fake grass in our old villa, nobody could tell lol. The plant souk sounds good, might have to go there. Good luck and happy gardening.

We live in a 1m in Reem 2, our latest DEWA bill was AED700. There are 3 of us living here and we have the a/c on in 2 bedrooms all night. The a/c downstairs is put on if we get hot then when the room is cool/cold we turn it off. We have found keeping the blinds/curtains closed in the day keeps the heat out. Also ours is mostly electricity. Thankfully we don't have a large garden. Will be glad when it's time to turn it off!!

Spinneys sell it too, not sure if it was pre packed or on the cheese counter. That was Motor City one.

You should be fine. We just came back from the Uk with about 10 kilos of p**k, yoghurts, cereals, chocolate and mint jelly. If all that is ok baby food will sail through.

Oh no, she did this on purpose. DH is furious with her. We hardly ever use both surnames. She knew what she was doing. The point she won't realise is that she has pushed DD further away. We were both very upset at how upset DD was about it all.

I posted earlier on in this thread but had to tell about my MIL. As I said earlier my DD refuses to stay with my MIL but will quite happily stay with my parents. We had to tell my MIL that she didn't want to go and stay with her and that it was her decision. She has now sent my DD a postcard to my parents address taking off my DH surname (she has a double barreled surname)so now just carries my maiden name. How would you react to this?

Our contract says 90 days notice either way and that we can leave early but have to pay the LL 2 months as well. We have friends who said they had been made unemployed and had to leave the country to get out of their rental agreement.Hope you get your contract soon and eveything is sorted out.

The really sad thing is they think it's their right to loot all of these shops, just because they don't have a job!! Well they have all claimed their 5 mins of fame on worldwide tv now. You keep hearing do you know where your children are-do the parents actually care? It's all calm in London now, probably because they have got eveyone elses police force, which gave the rioters carte blanche in other cities. It's disgraceful!!

Went to the "glass" tent at Mina Seyahi last night. It was on the Marina, which was nice. Looked nice inside BUT, there was no feeling of Iftar, just a lot of ex-pats in a room, no Emiratis/muslims at all. The food was passable. It was fairly full upstairs but was nearly empty by 8.15 and it didn't start unti 7. I would not recommend it at AED160 per person. If anyone has been to a good one would like to know. Also has anyone been to the one at Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel?

I totally sympathise with you. If I started on my MIL I could take up the whole of EW!!!! I send my DD to my mothers in the UK for 10 weeks in the summer. She flies there and back on her own but refuses point blank to stay with my MIL & FIL.My parents are great with her and consult me on things that need my input. Ok, they do spoil her while she is there but they only see her 15 weeks out of the year. No way would I have let anybody decide that she was having her hair cut though. You tell your MIL this and if she doesn't agree she doesn't get the children on her own again. That is if they want to go after this. She could have sealed her own fate without even thinking about it. Good luck.

I have got to ask where your journey started, to cost $100, that equates to about AED367. That was one expensive taxi!!! Come to think of it an expensive pair of shoes as well . Should this be in AED not $?

If I were you I would cut out the lunchtime one, it's a waste of time. prob 5 mins at about 2am and the same at about 8.30 pm. The timings would also depend on when the gardener comes as well. If you water in the day it just evaporates or burns the plants and grass.

UPDATE We now have had a reply from Emirates. Very long winded to say the least. I only detailed about half of what happened because it was too long to post, so you can imagine from what was put how much there actually is. The complaint has gone to senior management now we have been told, but were offered something because of it. I won't say what it is for now, but would like to know what you would expect them to do/offer you.

You only need extra insurance if you are going through into Oman itself. We did this and found it was cheaper to get it there at the visa point. Was AED100 for a week.

If you use the anniversary gift by year the traditinal one is COTTON and in the modern one it's CHINA. So something made from these would be good, you can also make it more personal too.
