I am 36 weeks pregnant and a patient with dr. Azizunisa and can not speak highly enough of her. She is an ob-gyn PLUS a fetal medicine specialist. A lot of dr. Elsa's patients are on EW so you will find a lot of recommendations for her. THe downside is that she is always fully booked and has extremely long waiting lists. Everybody looks for different things in a doctor. For example, I like a doctor that knows how to do a professional fetal scan at every visit and has a fetal medicine background so that I can do my NT scan and my anatomy scan with the same doctor. I am also looking for a soft spoken knowledgable person who keeps the fine line between doctor and patient without crossing it and yet gives me the feeling I can call or message every hour of the day. I like the fact that appointments arent rushed and every time I feel like I get the attention I deserve. If I have a problem, small or big, I want my doctor to take me serious, no matter how many times she or he has heard this before. I also want a doctor that respects my birthplan for as much as it is possible, no matter what crazy expectations I have. WIth dr Azizunisa, I have found all these qualities so for me she would be an excellent choice at City.

Take it from a real insomniac, all the funny tips below dont help. Chamomile tea? Please, thats like giving water to an alcoholic. It has no effect what so ever except waking you up all night to pee. There are a few natural supplements at the pharmacy, some might help, other wont, just ask the pharmacist what brands he has and and give each one a few days of trial. Something based on the herb Valeriaan might work, but again, these supplements are not medicinal so dont expect miracles. Another option is to try [b'>melatonin[/b'>. Sleeping pills are a big no no, as you will get addicted and then you get trapped into a vicious circle. Google the pro's and con's of the supplement melatonin and find out if you want to go that route. It did wonders for my grandma who was on sleeping aids and sleeping pills for years. I havent been able to take any of these lately as always pregnant or breastfeeding, lol. Few tips: Dont eat anything with sugar after 6pm, including bread and pasta (carbs will be read by your body as sugar), you dont need the sugar rush if you are sensitive. Try to limit your caffeine intake as much as possible. Careful with tea, I was always fooled by the amount of caffeine present in a cup of tea + theine. Try to get some exercise but not close to bedtime, preferably in the morning hours. I know, that is really hard to do. Read a very boring book in bed (Twilight? lol) . Dont "play" with your phone or computer in your bed. Go to bed around 9 or 10pm and do that every night. Bed time routines really help. I have been an insomniac for the last 3 years so unfortunately I am speaking out of experience.

I dont know if you have a helper that maybe can take care of your baby and only bring her in for feeding? Worse case scenario, Sera Beauty Lounge is a very nice salon and I never really smelled to much products there, actually its always freezing there so maybe you can give them a call? Their number is 044380191

I totally agree with all of you that there is way to much pressure on children here and on top of that the competition I have seen between the parents is ridiculous. It is as if it is a race, who's baby can walk fastest, talk fastest, count fastest.... and so on and so on. I never noticed this back home, but then again I didnt have children back home, so maybe this is a universal well hidden issue. I wanted my son to stay at nursery till he is 5 but since that would reduce our chances of finding a place for year 1 we have decided to put him on waiting lists for KG1 and FS2. The school that called me probably has a spot in pre-KG1 so I was a bit baffled that my child at 2 years and 10 months would be assessed. My husband said, well if he doesnt pass the assessment then obviously they are not the school for us, full stop.

Thanks ladies, we have a live out helper but she only works 5 days a week and her schedule is from 8.30 till 6.30 pm so I am a bit concerned if I have to leave to the hospital when she isnt on duty and I cannot reach her. I do agree with the general idea that he might be more comfortable at home and maybe just come to the hospital when things are more settled with daddy. KiwiSpiers, u must be superwoman, haha.... singing bed time songs while having hard core contractions, lol... Pfffft.... I hope she doesnt come early, I really still want to spend so much time with my son, feeling a bit guilty for not going to be able to give him all my undivided attention anymore.

No one is permitted to have a carry on weighing 20kgs - I don't travel with children but I would assume that weight is assigned to a checked bag. However the OP's solution of folding it before getting to the boarding gate and carrying it seems as if it would be one that would work - goodness knows there are enough people loaded down with duty free [i'>and[/i'>their allotted carry on allowance who breeze on board. Hey Mary Catherine, the 20kg or more I am referring to would be the childs suitcase AND the stroller. That means I would check in my childs suitcase, and it gets weighed. Sometimes the "****" check-in staff then also weigh the stroller to make sure both items combined are not heavier then the allowance. Usually they dont really care about the stroller and they just let you use it until the gate. If the stroller folds up small (which mine didn't) they [b'>should[/b'> allow it on the plane. If it is a huge chunky heavy thing (like mine) they put it in cargo and you can pick it up together with the rest of the suitcases at baggage claim. If you are lucky the strollers come out first, which for me is logic since they are the last thing to get put into cargo. If you are not lucky you sometimes wait for up to an hour panicking with a screaming child on your arm. The whole idea of the yoyo is that it actually fits in the overhead compartment, and if you are traveling alone with more than 1 child or a baby that doesnt walk yet, a stroller on hand might be a life saver.

I had a friend working for the distributor of Quality Street here in the GCC, which is Nestle, and they have different flavours here to suit the local market. And yes, certain food will taste different if the ingredients are not authorized here. Just read in the National that Snapple had to withdraw some of its flavours due to alcohol content that is above the allowed content. http://www.thenational.ae/featured-content/channel-page/news/uae-news/fruit-drink-snapple-withdrawn-over-alcohol-content-in-dubai DD will be devastated with this news:( Quite ridiculous, they sell alcohol and cigarettes all over the country, yet a snapple will be forbidden. Maybe they should carry these items in specialised licensed stores for non halal products in stead of just forbidding them. I would like to have the choice.

ditto what Meagle said, I swam (or waddled through the pool) throughout both my pregnancies, it was a good way to exercise and get some sunshine. I didn't use oils/creams and didn't get any stretch marks even though I gained quite a lot of weight both times, its not something you can prevent though, if its going to happen it will but stretch marks are not due to dry skin so moisturising won't help. Always nice to give the bump a rub though so do it if you want, maybe consider a healthier oil than bio-oil. (like a plant based oil). Interesting, I didnt realize Bio Oil had nasties in it. What plant based oil did you have in mind?

Thank perkyana I did go for an antenatal class at the hospital yesterday and they have assured me of a midwife through my labour, so I'm more confident going without a doula now :) Great to hear. Our experience last time with midwives at City Hospital was fantastic. We had a really lovely lady who just let us go with the flow and was very unobtrusive but never far away if we needed her. I have it on my list for my Dr apt this week to see if she is still at the hospital and ask if there is anyway to request her again if she is on shift when I am delivering. One thing to note is that if you do go across shifts the midwives will change - we had two as my waters broke and we had to hang around a while - but the handover was great between them so it was seamless. I have a preference to midwife delivery with minimal assistance from a doctor, maybe just at the very end or so. However I have been informed that in City Hospital the doctor is the only one to deliver. I am a bit worried that a doctor will try to speed up the process by episotomy or even cause a tear by causing me to push faster as they are all on a tight schedule. My first baby was a long delivery and the midwife was amazing and when the Dr finally showed up, he asked me if I wanted him to take over or not, I said no lets let Lisa finnish what she started. He just popped in and out to hold my hand every once in a while. God bless dr George! loll Perkynanana what is your experience in handing over the delivery from midwife to the doctor at City?

If it's the British selection of Quality street you're after, then the place you need to head to is Park N Shop - either on Al Wasl Rd, or their Cash N Carry out at the Green Community. They have ALL the UK choccy and crisp favourites in there. Planning a trip, planning a trip to Park N Shop.... lalallalaaa

Was it because it was a stroller or did you and your DH and baby have other carry on luggage that already met the limits? I understand that having the stroller at hand when you disembark is a great advantage for your family - perhaps the issue was the number of carry ons (including the stroller)? Usually they allow up to 20 kg of baggage for an additional child, I was also allowed to bring a huge changing bag on top of my stroller (that did get checked in at the gate) for my son when he was still under 1. OP, thanks for the heads up, I will make sure to fold my stroller on time with baby nr2. Been through exactly the same thing and with a stop over and a cranky baby running to another gate + your own bags + heavy changing bag is airport ****. That is why I always carried my son in the ergo when traveling until he got to heavy for me. BTW, some airports do offer small umbrella strollers for free. Has anybody tried booking one of those?

Here another "older" PCOS mum, so please dont stress. First we tried for about 3 years, and got pregnant of our son on 3rd cycle of IVF when I was 35. Now I am on 1700mg of metformin a day (glucophage) and conceived naturally after about 2 years of trying. I had so many cysts on my ovaries that IVF was out of the question this time. I was supposed to go on the pill as that sometimes reduces the cysts, 1 was the size of an orange, first day of my period. Well my period never came and I am now in my 9th month of pregnancy of baby girl, surprise surprise. Turning 39 in 2 months.

My friend gave birth at International Modern Hospital as she didnt have insurance either and she was extremely happy. Another option might be the Iranian Hospital or Rashid Hospital? Give them a call and inquire about the prices for their maternity packages. They should be a lot cheaper then most of the other Dubai hospitals. http://www.imh.ae/Obstetrics&Gynecology.php http://www.ihd.ae/servs.aspx http://alrashidhospital.org

I read somewhere that older women are less inclined to get stretch marks. Just to make sure I did use Bio Oil and I actually dont have 1 mark at all. Second pregnancy I wasnt planning on using anything but the hubby is more concerned about stretch marks then me apparently so he bought me a bottle and makes me put it on. Anyway, I also think it is either genetic but hey, putting some oil on my belly isnt going to kill me and if it should work then even better.

The UK sell the full range in their Quality street selection, it's different in Arab countries due to the gelatine content. This is what I've been told anyway. True, the chocolate has different conservation ingredients so that they do not melt as fast during transportation. That is why a simple Mars bar in Europe tastes so different from a Mars bar here in the UAE.

Thanks ladies, I couldnt sign in from my blackberry but this weekend I went to all the addresses mentioned below and a few additional places where they sell the "original" stuff. Exhausting weekend. The original furniture is super expensive but it can withstand temperatures of 80 degrees Celsius + 3 year warranty on any damage, but for the smallest set-up they would charge between 10 and 20.000 aed. That is way out of our budget right now. The Garden Centre furniture can officially only withstand temperatures up to 30 degrees, if it gets hotter then that it might melt or the metal legs will burn your skin. I thought that was a bit scary for the rattan furniture, they said its better to put it inside or cover it completely when its hot. I asked if placed under a Gazebo would it still get damaged and they were not able to answer me. We did order a Gazebo from Garden Centre and then saw the exact same one in Dragon Mart for half the price. :-( In Dragon Mart they claim that their rattan furniture will hold up for about 3 years at temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius and after then we can replace the rattan for about half the price of the furniture (about 1500aed) and than it will last another 2 to 3 years. I still have to check the Home Centre and Homes R Us selection. Missmatch69 could you please send me an sms and I will give you a call back on my nr edited by KenzaB on 03/08/2013 edited by KenzaB on 07/08/2013

At 2 years 8 months can we talk about hyperactivity? How can I know it's not just terrible twos? I'm struggling with my DD and any opinion / experience would really help. Maybe you just have a spirited child? Mine has always been extremely "energetic" and this has nothing to do with any food or preservatives because I make everything from scratch and he doesnt eat or drink anything with "nasties" in it. Some of my friends asked me how I survive such an active toddler but I am NOT concerned at all, my son is 3 now and I love his temperament. Every child is different, just like every adult is different. Some like to sit on the couch all day and some get bored quickly and constantly find things to do. Just try lots of different activities and challenge her to do things beyond her years.

There will be exactly 3 years between my 2 children. Same due date and all. One of my friends had 2 kids with only 1 year in between, for 2 years she was ready for a mental institution to be honest, but now they are 4 and 5 they are so close and love to play together. I guess it all depends on you and the personality of your children, I would have loved to have my own kids closer to each other so they would have more in common but then again that still doesnt guarantee that the kids actually will play together. My sister has 3 year old twins and they try to kill each other every other day, lol

Hey, sorry I am not from Abu Dhabi, but what I usually do here in Dubai is have the guys from behind the meat counter grind the turkey steaks for my meat balls. At least then u "know" it is freshly ground meat. Maybe an option? Its also quite easy to make your own turkey burgers (and much tastier), lots of recipes online if you really crave one and you cant find them. Good luck!!

I keep recommending my doctor at CIty Hospital, her name is dr Azizunisa, she is the head of maternity at City Hospital and used to be the head of maternity at Al Wasl (now Latifah). For some reason I never see any recommendations for her but I think she is fantastic. And my previous pregnancy I had dr George so she had some pretty big ob-shoes to fill. ;-)

Since I am in my 8th month I am not planning on buying any additional stuff, but maybe some of the other moms-to-be would be interested. I think its the only shop in Dubai that offers fashionable maternity wear for a bargain price. Sooo wish I would have discovered them a bit earlier in my pregnancy. I think its a good opportunity because they also announced that their shop is closing down if they dont find someone to take over. :-(

Have a look at Safestway in Sheikh Zayed Road. They have loads of American products on their shelves. Lots of products you wont find anywhere else. Or make it yourself. Speculoos Cookie Butter Recipe Ingredients: 3/4 sleeve Biscoff cookies (about 24 cookies) 1 Tablespoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 cup) coconut oil a pinch of salt 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 2 teaspoons canola oil 1 Tablespoon skim milk Directions: Grind the cookies into a fine meal using a food processor. Melt the coconut fat and let cool down until luke warm. Add coconut oil to the cookie meal and process until combined. Then add sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, canola oil and milk. Process until combined, scraping the sides as needed. This could take up to 5 minutes, but stop whenever you reach your desired consistency. Play around with the oil or milk amounts if you still want it creamier. This spread will harden in the fridge and it is best to let it stand 30 min at room temperature when serving. edited by Asti on 05/03/2013 Hi Im curious what is the brand of the food processor that you used? Im dying to make Cookie Butter but Im still looking which food processor to buy. Any recommendations? We use the regular Philips all in one food processor, its a juicer, cake blender, mixer and vegetable cutter... I use it every day for something else. One of the best buys for my kitchen, unfortunately my husband completely blew up the cake blender trying to make cornmeal cookies in it. Pffttt

Honestly I think one is a bit old for a play pen, I think you'd be better off spending your money on toddler proofing your house and a couple of stair gates to block off any dangerous areas ( like one on the kitchen door, one bottom of stairs etc). I just can't see an over one year old happily playing confined within such a small space. I second Kiwispiers, 1 is the age where they are discovering the world. I never put my son (now 3) in a playpen and he survived. :-) (barely, nono just kidding) He is so used to just playing on the carpet and all his toys are there so he barely even gets off except for a ride around the house on his bike. My husband does want to get a playpen for baby nr2 but I am not a big fan of that idea.

why not look at a nearby destination like Sri Lanka or Turkey... that way you won't be spending a lot in terms of ticket fare... lots of cheaper airline deals to these locations... and weather's not as extreme as here... though in sri lanka you will get some rain Both sound nice to me, i dont even really care about the destination, just a relax holiday to enjoy doing absolutely nothing and give my son some fun water times.

My son had severe reflux and was not able to lie flat for 6 months. They can choke on their vomit if they lie flat on their backs so please be careful. Babies that young can not manipulate or be spoiled, they cry to communicate something to you. Have bubba checked out by a doctor to rule out reflux or silent reflux and dont pay to much attention to what other people say you should or shouldnt do with YOUR baby. Good luck!

For as far as I know the most important ones are 12 week, 20 week and 28 week scan. All the other scans are for our own peace of mind and to see our little bubba on the monitor. I had my scan at 28 weeks including anti-D testing + glucose testing. Will now have my 32 week scan, probably after this the doctor will ask me to see me every 2 to 3 weeks, that is normal in Dubai. It is completely up to you if you feel you need it or not.

Well, I have given him lots of **** as a matter of fact. He told me a few times the visa was in process so I believed him, let's just say even if I tell him 10 times a day, we have fights about it, it doesnt make a difference. Anyway, he know told me that he will process me a work visa on his company with a speed procedure after my ultimatum threats of leaving the country. Supposedly this will take 5 working days. The fine will be hefty and I told him about this many many many times. I have asked him daily about the rental agreement and he keeps saying he contacts the agency but they keep him hanging because the landlord isnt responding to the agency. The original landlord is a local man who lives in Abu Dhabi, he has recently transferred this property to his wife and changed rental agency, I was in good contact with the previous one, the new one is in Sharjah and people on the phone do not even speak english which makes it even harder. The reason we have it cheaper is because when the market plummeted we renegotiated a cheaper price (the old agency was very lenient) in exchange for us fixing up the villa a little bit and paying for the constantly broken down AC costs.

As a matter of fact I am not happy with my husband because he has been so lax and we have been living here for 4 years and I found out he has never asked for a rental agreement ever. I was the one who rented this villa before I had my son so I only have the original rental agreement which is on my name. After I stopped working my husband said he will put it on his name to make things easier. I dont even know if he did that or not. He is a last minute man and always procrastinates which has led us to many many financial and marital troubles already. Right now I have given him an ultimatum, sort out my visa issues, I dont care how or I am leaving the country for good. The holliday was with his parents and they called me (emotional blackmail) to ask for my "blessing", I couldnt go because where they went in south america I would have had to take malaria medication which isnt recommended while being pregnant. My biggest concern is indeed going home to visit my parents as my dad is terminally ill and I want him to see us before his illness gets worse.

I have been thinking about Rera but I am so afraid to cause trouble at this point, our villa is only half the price of all the similar property in our street and we really cannot afford to move right now + me being pregnant and all. So begging and pleading is the only weapon we have right now.
