Hi, Does anyone what is the customs limit for shipping things to UAE. I don't want to pay the customs duties. I would rather split my order into 2 packages. However, I would like to know the customs limit. Also Flames, Sephora is having a 20% off discount on all sale items from 21st Dec. Hi Venita, Llast year I didn't know about customs charge and I had shopped shoes, apparel, bag and watch which was well worth AED 3000+ but I was never charged customs duty. My sister had put all the things in one big box and shipped it to my SNS address.

Hi Flames, You are right. The site is pretty addictive. My poor credit card. I ordered the following 1) Two faced foundation born this way 2) Becca champagne pop highlighter 3) Kat Von D contour palette 4) Nars sharpener and also grabbed a lot of freebies. I got two 15 dollars off gift cards from them, so split my orders into two and used both of them as they said that I could use only one per order. So excluding taxes, and all was able to save abt 20 dollars. :) I still have theBalm Cyber Monday sale pending which is on 15th. 50% off. So more shopping left Hi kewlzany, You can use your UAE credit card to make your purchases. Kat Von D's eyeshadows are the best!!! My friend was in New York for Black Friday Dec 2015 and bought me the big palette. I am dreading running out of it. She doesn't test on animals either which is a bonus I agree.. her eyeshadows are amazing and so is her everlasting liquid lipstick. They are so smooth and doesn't dry up and stays on the whole day! I love it!

Last time my sister used her US card and put my SNS shipping address but it was rejected. I really want to use my $15 off coupon which ends today! Thanks

I order from them all the time via MyBox. Till date, I haven't had any issues. My order gets shipped within 2 days, reaches my MyBox address in 2-3 days and reaches me here in Dubai in another 3-5 days. Btw, I always use Ebates (http://goo.gl/kpYaLg) to get cashback on all of my online orders. They pay me back via Paypal every 2 months. Plus they list all the ongoing promos/discount codes on their page for additional savings. Sometimes the main website doesn't advertise the deals and I find them either through Ebates or Nouvea Cheap/Hip 2 Save. Highly recommend them! Oh MyBox has free sign up this month - https://mybox.postaplus.com/ I have a Shop&Ship account as well but I moved to MyBox as it was a) cheaper b) faster c) none of my orders have gotten cancelled yet :') Rates are AED 30 for first half and AED 25 for every half kg after the first Oh I do not work for them....just very happy with their service :D Tip - For all my orders, I put my MyBox address as the billing and shipping address. If your billing address is different than your shipping address, then it flags up on their system. Till date the only company that questioned me about the my billing details was Aldo (Canadian Website) but they shipped my order immediately after verifying my details :) Hi Flames, I want to know, when you order from Sephora, do you use UAE credit card?

I've never heard of it It's a Japanese brand and does miracles to the skin. Very good for removing makeup and for a good facial massage. Highly recommended but unfortunately not available in Dubai :(

Hello Ladies, We are quite new to the UAE and I am looking for a good nursery with daycare for my 18 month old preferably near the Al Taawun/Al Khan area. Any pointers would immensely help. I recently took a tour of the British Rose Nursery and Playdays Nursery in Al Fisht (sp) area in Sharjah. Both seemed quite nice. Any personal feedback would really help. It is a little out of the way from work but would be ok if the place is really good. Please pour in your thoughts/suggestions ladies! Thanks a bunch!!! My son goes to British Rose Nursery in Fisht area. I am very happy with the nursery. Caring teachers and very friendly staff. My son loves it there.

Hello Ladies, We are looking to move to the Al Khan/Al Taawun area in Sharjah. The area seems nice, especially the Corniche Street. Is this a good place and how is the traffic? Both of us work in Sharjah and hence would prefer something nice in Sharjah. If anyone has good recommendation on the buildings (with good maintanence, layout etc), that would be just great as well. Thanks all! I live in Al Taawun area by the corniche. I like it here. Yes, the traffic is awful during peak hours but then again my husband and I never get out during the peak hours so it's okay for us. I like it because it's just 5-10 mins drive from Dubai and very convenient. Most of the buildings by the corniche are full but you could get lucky. If you want more info, you can contact me at kewlzany at gmail dot com. Let me know when you check this message so I can take off my email from here.

Hi Emirates6, I've been wanting to know what they ask during assessment as well. My son has been called in for an assessment in 2 weeks. My friends son got in there last year for FS1 and she said they asked him to write his name and some other general questions. At this stage, they just want to know if the child understands English. How old is your child? My son is 4. I really hope he gets through because it is a very good school.

Tried to place an order at Macy's US . Everything went through but the following day I received an e mail informing me there was a security problem and to please call them. I did it and it seems they could not verify my name. I was using a special credit card issued by shop and ship to use when websites do not accept UAE credit cards. Has anyone faced the same problems ? Thanks Yes, I have faced the same problem while using USunlocked credit card. USunlocked doesn't work with most of the websites in US other than Amazon, Walmart, Target and few others. All the other websites need verification. I finally ended up buying from Macy's using my sister's Macy's card. You can however use your UAE credit card and get it shipped to Dubai without using Shop and Ship because Macy's have international shipping.

thats the one! Good luck I have made many a happy purchase with it, DH was really surprised at the difference in prices between here and US. I just bought some 7 for all Mankind jeans for AED700 with delivery and they were AED1500 at the store at Dubai Mall. The mark ups here are sometimes out of this world. I know! I have completely stopped shopping from here ever since I started using SNS. I got Michael Kors pumps for AED 350 with shipping. For that price I'd get an Aldo shoes here! Really crazy! Did you get 7fam jeans for AED700 on sale? Because I've never ever seen that price for those jeans online or in store!

there is a link on the SnS website for the credit card but for some reason I cant log in to SnS from work to post the link, this may be a good thing or my DH has been in touch with IT! Its easy to manage and I have used it to buy stuff from a few online stores (definitely not a good thing), they do charge a % for the honour of the card but its prepaid which helps. edited by littleone on 17/09/2014 Thank you. I got it done. SNS is associated with USunlocked. Hope the website I want to buy from accepts it. Fingers crossed. Hahaha.. my DH is going to be worried now! edited by kewlzany on 17/09/2014

Some stores will only accept a US credit card, but if you have a shop n ship account they have an affiliate that offers a US credit card facility. You need to sign up for it, they will provide you with credit card details with a US address (usually your SNS US address) and then you top it up directly from your account or from you paypal account. Some other EW users have had success when putting in their UAE credit card for payment by putting the country as US. Thanks for the info. I have a SNS account and I've been using it a lot but never heard of this service. I will contact them and ask them about this service. I've used my uae credit card and paypal in most online stores but some of them are not accepting because they cannot verify the card. It's frustrating! Thanks again.

My husband thinks I should stop at this and not go to the police. He wants me to stop and think about the driver's family back home who are depending on him! Oh Nooo... I don't agree. It's the drivers job to worry about the consequences of his threatening behaviour. It's this unwarranted sympathy that protects people who are up to no good and keeps them safe to continue being horrible. I hardly ever take a taxi but on the odd occassion that I have, the worst experience has been a taxi smelling of cigarette smoke and leaving me with a headache. If a cabbie threatened me, I'd take it as far as I possibly could. My DH might encourage me to cool down first and go into the action with a clear head but I hope he'd never put the wrong-doers family above my personal safety. That is what I told my husband. The driver should have thought of the consequences before he did what he did. Anyway, I convinced my husband and we reported the driver to the Police. I don't know what action they will take but I sure feel at peace now.

I told a friend of mine about my horrifying experience and she said she had a similar experience wherein the taxi driver refused to take route she wanted and the end of it he threatened her and told her he will take her some place and sell her off!!!! My husband thinks I should stop at this and not go to the police. He wants me to stop and think about the driver's family back home who are depending on him! Am I a bad person for thinking a warning is not enough for the way he treated me? I don't know anymore.. ETA I don't think all Taxi Driver's are bad. In the last 3 years I've been here,I've not had a single bad experience besides this! edited by kewlzany on 19/06/2014

Kewlzany, I am glad to read that your DH and you have initiated action. Sometimes lwe dont always have the time to follow up on complaints, especially if it takes extra time out of a busy day and once the initial shock and emotions cool down some people lose steam and ask, why bother? If you feel this will help you please realise we are shocked and appalled at the behaviour you described in your initial post and at least I, for one, hope you come back and update us on any investigation carried out by the RTA and its results. I hope the truth comes out and if found culpable, then this particular taxi driver should not be unleashed again on an unsuspecting public. Also if you were parked anywhere near your building's entrance or around, is there any cctv around that could have recorded the incident? You could approach the security of the building and ask them to help you. If they do find something call back RTA and tell them you have cctv evidence. Best of luck and if you get justice then you should be pleased your actions showed this unruly man that he cannot get away with such kind of behaviour. Thank you. This makes me feel so much better. I feel I'm not alone in this and definitely not overreacting. RTA called me up this morning to confirm my story and told me they will get back to me. They called me up again few minutes back and told me that the driver was given a warning and fined him as well.

Please report him to both the RTA and the Police. Don't wait. His behaviour is appalling. He threatened you - twice. This is not acceptable. What might he do to the next woman he gets aggressive at? And if he really said that he would kidnap you and take you someplace - he is also indirectly threatening you with something a **** of a lot worse....... reading between the lines and assuming the driver is from a country where this IS frequently used as punishment for any slight!!!! Yes!! Also, he did not want me to take a picture of his car license plate so he assumed if he pushed me away with his car, I would be scared and walk away. I did not want him to get away with this because I know he can repeat it again if he knows he got away with it. When I play back the entire episode in my head, I think I could have died by standing in front of his car because he could have run over me!

Thank you ladies for the advice. My husband was in Abu Dhabi last night and I could not go to the Police station to log in a complaint. I called the police and they told me to either go to the police station and report him or to call the RTA and log in a complaint with them and that the RTA takes it very seriously. I called the RTA and narrated the entire incident and they were shocked that he pushed the car against me for a whole minute. They said they will get back to me within 48 hours and confirm my side of the story and investigate the driver and take action. I am not one to exaggerate or create a scene for nothing but this wasn't an issue I wanted to keep quiet about. It is one thing to be rude but pushing his car against me while looking straight into my eyes is taking it to a different level altogether. I don't expect everyone to believe me but it was a harrowing experience for me and one I will never ever forget! edited by kewlzany on 18/06/2014 edited by kewlzany on 18/06/2014

Thank you ladies for your replies. Like Kiwispiers DS, my DS is a heavy sleeper as well. Putting him down for a nap by itself is a battle and if he does sleep, then he wont wake up for 2 hours. If I wake him then his meltdown lasts for half hour and it also delays his bed time to 9 because he needs 5 hours between nap in the noon to bedtime at night. This is the reason I prefer he doesn't nap in the noon. His dinner and bedtime is structured ie bath at 5.30, dinner at 6 and bed time at 7. I will make sure to take him to park or pool often. I wanted to ask you ladies, if your children go to bed alone or you have to be with them in the room until they sleep? DS won't sleep unless I sleep beside him and sing a song or tell a story and it takes about 15 minutes for him to fall asleep. What can do to make him sleep alone?

Hi Veela, Don't know about Internal Medicine but my husband gave MOH, DHA and HAAD exam for Orthodontics 3 years back. Now they have all merged (MOH, DHA and HAAD) and if you pass any one of the exam, you can now work in all parts of the UAE. Previously, you needed to have different license for different part of UAE. This rule was passed few weeks back. Good luck. Hope this helped

In IHOP, better to have their regular pancakes. The place is called CioccolatItaliani:) edited by Marroosh on 02/04/2014 Thank you! There is this great fish restaurant in Sharjah (off Al Khan Road) called Sanober that makes fish like in a fishing village of Lebanon. It is run by a family. Really yummy....Also the Sharjah Beach hotel offers a monthly beach/pool/gym access for couples 650dhs, children above 9 200dhs and children under 9 100dhs. It really comes out cheap if you go a few times a months (we usually are there three to four times a week. Did not feel the heat at all this summer :) Wow! Where exactly is this place? I stay so close by in Al Taawun!

Hi TBD, I feel you because my DH was very protective of DS as well especially the sleeping bit. The second DS moans, DH runs to take him out of the crib. It was driving me up the wall but when he turned 6 months I tried CIO when DH was away. Took 3 nights and he was sleeping through the night after that. The first night DS cried for half hour but slept through the night. It broke my heart but I knew I had to do it. 2nd night he cried for 20 minutes and slept through the night and 3rd night he cried for 10 minutes. That was it. Ever since he's been sleeping through the night. Hes 2.5 years old now. I give him a bath, tell him a story and then put him in the crib and he sleeps almost immediately. Everyone may not agree with this method but this has really worked for me. You will have to put your foot down on certain things else in the long run it's not going to be easy. Good luck with your pregnancy.

What a great trip! The answer depends hugely on what your interests are. As a California Native, Id say with both San Fran and LA and even Las Vegas... stay very near to the area that most interests you. Then, you are within walking and taxi of all things exciting. There are so many fun, interesting, exciting, beautiful experiences to be had in each of these places. All of which can easily be ruined and stressed by loooong commutes in frustrating traffic. So, plan to be close. The weather in the Cali two is amazing and a nice walk is a big piece of the experience. I wish you best that each has to offer. Thank you :) Really looking forward to this trip. In SF do you think Union Square is the best place to stay? In LA we'd be staying with family so not too worried about our stay there.

Does he willingly ride much? By that age my DS would rather walk more and by 3 flat our refused to ride in a stroller. My suspicion is that your days using a stroller will probably be limited, so I wouldn't suggest spending a ton on a new stroller for him unless you have younger kids who can/will use it. He's not a big fan of the stroller but he will sit if I prepare him for it at home. He runs around the mall all the time and wont hold my hand which scares me, especially if the mall is crowded! Also, I need it for travelling. edited by kewlzany on 29/08/2013

I got DS's US visa done on Wednesday and received a confirmation email yesterday with the tracking number. At the end of the mail, there was a link and I clicked on it and it directly took me to the status and showed as delivered to the Empost which I requested for pick up. Will go and pick it up later today. I think they have forgotten to update. How many days has it been? You should give them a call and provide your tracking number. They will tell you if they received it or not and how many days it would take.

You could log in to Facebook using Safari instead of the Facebook app and after logging in, click on the desktop view and you can then view FB like you do on a laptop. You can create a group and add all your friends in that group except FIL. When you post anything (using the FB app) you can click the option of the friend group you created, so all your friends can still see your posts but your FIL wouldn't be able to see it. Hope that helped.

Kewlzany Please keep on with Blue (Siamese) that you were interested in...on borrowed time now... I did reply on that thread but no response. Is there any email or number I can contact? You can try sending a private message on Nad al Shiba Veterinary Hospital's facebook page. If you go to that page and scroll down to June 19 there is a post about Blue. I checked their website and scrolled to the post of Blue even but did not message on that because I realized that there have been queries which are unanswered there so I think they don't check it often. That's why I wanted their contact, it's faster and since it's Friday and all at home are free it would be easy to go there. I really liked Blue. He's adorable :)

I saw in the metro magazine that there's a cat adoption event on Aug. 17 (in two days) where you can adopt cats. I think it's arranged by feline friends. you might want to go there to find cats for adoption. That's wonderful. Could you please tell me where is it going to be?
