As a general rule in Dubai, if you're looking to foster a cat or kitten picking a breed is not really an option as the majority of the cats looking for care are abandoned Arabian Mau. Having said that, there are quite a few persian and long hair varieties that get dumped and have kittens also, but you've said you're not keen on the longhairs anyway? There is the odd Siamese looking for a temporary home, but they're few and far between. Also, as a fosterer you would be expected to actively search for a home for your furry friend. The Arabian Mau are now an officially recognised breed, and they're gorgeous! They are loyal and affectionate and playful and very intelligent. If you are really serious about fostering I suggest you visit the Facebook page of Bin Kitty Collective or 38 Smiles or Feline Friends as they're all desperate for help, as always :) Thank you for the reply. Excuse my ignorance, I really had no idea about that. I'm very serious about fostering. I have already joined the Bin Kitty Collective page. I will look on there. I wanted to know, how does the fostering work and if I want to adopt the cat later, what is the procedure? How often do I need to take the cat to the vet?

I'm looking to foster a kitten or cat. I have never had a pet before but my son really loves cats. My friend has 3 Persian cats and he's always playing with them and never leaves their sight when we go over to her place. I don't want a long hair cat because of maintenance and the hair they leave all over the house. I was thinking of Siamese because they are very friendly and active. I want to foster for now because I want to see how my son will be around the cat all day and if everything goes well, then I would love to adopt it. Could you please advice me which breed would be best suited for a family with children. Also, I live in an apartment. Thanks

You could post on mumzies souq group on Facebook. You might get a quicker response. Also, when you post ads on Dubizzle, put up pictures otherwise you won't get too many response. About the pick up, generally the buyer comes and picks it up but you could also decide on a meeting point.

Is the Sharjah mums group on FB? How to join them? I received an email a while back mentioning about the FB group but I couldn't find it. You can email them but I think now most of them are traveling now so you might not get a reply soon.

I live in Sharjah as well. We do have Sharjah mums group wherein they meet twice a month or so. We get emails every 2 weeks about where to meet and stuff like that. I have a 2 and half year old son but I haven't been to any because I've been really busy.

My experience suggests that by and large girls talk earlier and faster than boys. My friend's daughter knew a million songs and spoke in sentences at barely 2. My son wasn't at that stage until a year later. (They were easy to compare as my son is just 6 weeks older. The difference between them at 2 and now at 3 is startling. It was easy to see, too, as we hadn't seen each other in a year.) I've often seen the same with other little girls, too. I completely agree with that and I've noticed that with most of the little girls in my family. Thanks again for your input. Really appreciate it :)

Whatever you do, don't listen to the in-laws or anyone else trying to compare your child with another child!! I know it's really hard when you have family making these comparisons, grrrr!! Everyone develops at their own pace and I really think the fact that he's exposed to 2 languages means something as well. By all means get his hearing tested and take him to a speech specialist to check him out but here you run the risk of Dr's saying yes, he's got this wrong and that wrong, just because they see you have insurance and want to milk it all!! Just be careful to not let him think there's anything wrong with him, or to put any labels on him. I found with my girls I was really concerned with their delay, but it seems almost overnight they became little babblers :) LOL! I couldn't care less what they think but when DH keeps worrying then it annoys me! I've already got his hearing tested couple of times since he lost it for few weeks and he's completely fine now. One of the reasons DH doesn't want to take him for speech therapy is the exact reason you mentioned about Dr's squeezing out as much as they can. I always encourage and appreciate DS all the time and don't let DH call him shy but some times it's just inevitable. Thanks you so much. It really does make me feel better because with all the guests I've had last week and DS behaving this way, got me a little worried. Oh and btw, I got biotin. Can't wait to see the results in 2 months :D

I also think you are expecting too much. Children develop at their own paces and mostly, they catch up to the same point once established at school. My second son was labelled "slow" by his KG and Grade 1 teacher - so we just let him "be" - enjoy himself and that was it. By the end of Grade 3 - he was first in the class, socially active and a joy to be around and graduated high school (top boarding school in Australia) with honours!!! He was just immature and needed more time. He is now 28 - a university graduate, speaks two languages, and has a managerial position in an international company - travels the world with his job. He is really successful - and comparing him to the little boy I worried about in Grade 1 - I could be forgiven for not recognising them as the same boy. If accessing your DS would make you feel better, then do it, but not at the expensive of his slowly developing confidence. Give him time. Wow! I never expected mums to think I'm expecting too much. DH always says I'm laid back with him. I don't like to put pressure on children because I feel they will bloom when they will so pressurizing them will just make it worse. I'm glad to read this. Feel relieved now. Thank you Mrs.B :)

Hi Kewlzany, My DD was also very shy, did not say a word in school..We went to playtherapist, who gave us a lot of advice..Must of the things, she said we already knew, but it was nice to have a few basic things listed..Our DD was bit older (4y). I can give you few of the basics she told us *do one on one playdates to build up self confidence, this way class is not a big group but all friends. *never ever label him as 'shy' in front of him to other people. He will act according to that label *although it is difficult but he must do social activities, playgroups, playschool, hobbies etc..keeping him safe at home will not let him come out of his shell, but make it worse *let him tested by playtherapist, she will also give you a lot of advice *don't make it easy on him NOT to speak, let him order in a restaurant the drink he want etc..slowly he will learn it is not scary at all..step by step... *best example is..in class, my DD would not even ask to go to toilet, she would just wiggle in front of teacher..who would then ask<you need to go to toilet??> instead question asked should be: Is there something you wanna ask me?? This way she was forced to ask to go to the toilet etc.. *acknowledge his fear as well... All this little tips made a big difference in my girls life..she will never be very outgoing and extravert..always be more shy, but now at least it does not influence her selfesteem. She is now a confident girl. So glad I went to playtherapist back then..(husband was also not a big fan of that but had to admit later it was so good for her). Nothing wrong with going to a therapist, even if it is only for advice..Your kid is the most precious thing, if you can help him now to build up selfesteem..I would do anything I can..better now then later! *I would also def have him tested for autism etc...to see he is def 'just shy' and nothing more going on..as that would probably require more specialised therapy. Hope these little tips can help! Thank you so much for the tips. Could you please tell me who was your playtherapist?

Personally I feel you're expecting a bit too much from him. Firstly his age, secondly he's learning two languages. I had twin girls and they didn't really start with full sentances till about 2.5. My husband and I speak to them in different languages so I figured it's that, plus twins have their own dialogue between themselves. All kids are different. With socialisation I guess nursery is the best answer, but I understand your hesitance!! I'm sure the other ladies have some good advice. Thank you for your reply. Honestly, I'm not expecting too much. In fact I know he might have verbal diarrhea once he starts talking.. lol and I don't mind if he takes his time to do that but I just want to make sure I don't delay therapy in case he needs it :) edited by kewlzany on 11/08/2013

Given that he's had hearing loss and you are concerned about his speech and socialization, it is most definitely worth discussing this with your son's pediatrician. Thank you for your reply. I did talk to my pediatrician, he said to give him time and to get him to interact more with kids his age. Even I believe all children differ but I hate it when my husbands family keeps comparing DS to his cousin sister who is a month older to him and is very talkative, outgoing and all the works! It doesn't matter to him but DH gets a little worried but still refuses to take him to a speech therapist! edited by kewlzany on 11/08/2013

Tiramisu is quick and easy and delish. Guessing you want the a*c*h*l free version which is actually the way its done in Italy to be authentic anyway. Lovely recipe here [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQlhLBs7j0E'>link[/url'> enjoy! I made Tiramisu last year for Eid, so want to try something new this year.

It is probably wise to take things slowly.(Im the opposite, I'm an all or nothing girl +++:D) I'll get the name of the biotin for you - like i said it has other vitamins in it. good to take an all-in-one. I'd wait at least 2 months though before drawing any conclusions, as you need to wait to see if there's any new growth. also, i would use bottled water on your hair if you're not already, the water here is so harsh. LOL! I know what you mean.. even I'm that way for everything except taking pills :D Did you have any side effects because I hear acne is one of the side effects if we don't drink lots of water?! Still waiting for the name of the company you're using :)

I think the one I'm taking is about 1000mcg, as compared to the 300mcg I was taking. I'm at work, but tonight I'll post the name of the one I'm taking. It also has alot of other vitamins in it. I would def go for the vit b complex, the D and the iron. But if you're breast feeding, I would talk to your dr before you take anything. No, I don't breastfeed, I was thinking I will take only biotin for a month and see how it goes? I'm a little paranoid to take any other stuff. Yes, I know it's nothing but I've always been this way. What do you think?

kewlzany, I would get your hormones checked too, if it's only happened since pregancy and birth, it may be related Thanks a ton Ginnee. I was thinking the same but even before the delivery, I have had scanty hair but the hair fall started after the delivery and more after the move here. I've also read about biotin being helpful. How many mcg do you take? I'm thinking of starting it right away. I will also get my hormones checked next week.

Ever since my delivery which was 2 and half years back, I'm having severe hair fall and then I moved to UAE and it has become worse. I think it differs from person to person. Some people do not like it and some people are okay with it. I think you should talk to your husband and tell him how much it is upsetting you. If you're crying so much thinking about it, he should know about it. Communication is the key in every relationship. If you don't, then it leads to a lot of misunderstanding. Feel better soon.

Anyone been to Goa, what's it like? Would you recommend it ? My hometown is close to Goa. It's a lovely place for vacation. At the moment, it is off season since it's monsoons and it rains quite a lot there. So, you wouldn't be able to do much of the water sports or chill at the beach. If you need any other info, let me know. HTH.

Thank you ladies for your advice. I'm not a big fan of trunking myself that's why I didn't do it in the first place but if it's hidden well and some people even paint it so it isn't noticeable. However, I think I may have to get a professional for the drilling the wall and getting that sorted out. Thanks again.

It's the same deal as with light switches and power sockets. If you want the cables to be completely invisible, you have to cut a channel into the wall, run the cables in the channel, and then plaster over it and repaint. That's what I've been dreading.. sigh!

I just had four Arabic name necklaces made from Cara in the g&d park in silver. The names were varying lengths and they cost 120 aed each. Are the prices the same for bracelets? Do they make it in gold as well? Any idea how much a gold bracelet with arabic letters would cost? edited by kewlzany on 22/07/2013 Those prices are for bracelets. They do them in gold, I am sure he said about 500. Thanks :)

Come on ladies don't share all your secrets! lol I don't mind sharing how many kilo's I loose. I would of course never reveal my weight ? Even DH doesn't know after 20 years. By the way, considering the number of threads on weight loss etc., I find it hard to believe no one else on this forward is joining the challenge (or has the guts to admit it). Lol. Same case with me. DH doesn't know and will never know until I get to perhaps my dream weight ;) I'm surprised as well.. couldn't possibly be just you and me!

Bblue, sure you can ask. During menstration, a woman is cleaning her body, doctors now will even say that there are many health benefits for this cleaning as it removes a lot of bacteria and other things from the system. To pray, you must wash yourself. Hands, face, feet, private regions etc. during your period your body continues to bleed out, so you can never clean that area as even if you wash it it will have blood on it soon enough. But the period itself does not make a woman a filthy thing. Just gives her a chance to refresh. *LIKE* I'm ashamed to say this but I'm born muslim and I don't have half the knowledge you or any other converts on here have on Islam :( but everyday I learn..

I suggest you watch the rice carefully as it can dry out quickly. Also, you can even boil the chicken halves a bit, then bake or fry. If you don't know how to make saffron salt. If not, just add sea salt and some saffron threads separately, I don't really think it matters. I think the saffron salt is just a matter of being frugal with the saffron. I don't know how to make saffron salt. Can I buy it? Where is it available?

Ebay it shows different prices because it's from different sellers. Different sellers are from different countries hence the shipping cost would be different. Some ship only to certain countries while some others ship worldwide. When buying on Ebay always check the sellers rating and see the feedback left by other buyers so you know if you should buy from them or not. Hope this helped.

I want to buy a nice lehenga or salwar kameez with all the accessories for my little niece. She's in Europe so these things are a novelty for her. Any suggestions as to where I can get them from? I am looking for a decent quality more like Fabindia stuff - but not Fabindia as it is ridiculously overpriced in UAE. I don't know if you would be up for it but you get it at Meena Bazaar in Bur Dubai. My friend got one for her daughter. They have a wide range I hear.

Has anybody had Hypnotherapy to help with weight loss ? Has it been successful . Also interested in finding out about hypo gastric banding . Any recommendations and if anyone has any idea of costs . Thanks I saw the Russell Hemmings ad on Facebook and the results of few people in Dubai and in UK. So, I called and spoke to them and they said it costs 3000 AED for one session and depending on the weight you need to lose, you may need 2-3 sessions. You could also try the book by Paul McKenna named Gastric Band. It comes along with a cd. I've read reviews that it really helped many women lose weight if you apply the 3 golden rules mentioned in the book.

I had the oven on about 180 celcius for 10-15 minutes. i usually just 'eye it' and take it out when golden on top. If you did find it dry, and have left overs you could always pour some sweetened milk over it and let it soak into it in the fridge over night. Did anyone cook Umm Ali last night? Thanks Ginnee, I did it and it was super easy and DH loved it. Unfortunately I cannot tolerate rose water and was afraid that it was too much... but nope, he ate a load and then re-heated more for suhoor, so well done you! I made it yesterday but half the quantity because I didn't want leftovers to keep digging in to. It's sinful! It was yummylicious even though I think I left it in the oven a bit long and it turned out a little dry. Can you tell me how many minutes did you keep it in the oven for and the temperature? Thanks Ginnee. I have some leftovers. Will add sweetened milk now and keep it for later tonight. I had to stop myself from taking a 2nd serving since it's so high caloried!!

Thanks Abby n Christina, Redrec Tangle and Mrsb. What you pointed out is absolutely right but I don't come from a background where I live with in laws even back home. When I lived in India, after I got married, for 5 years DH and I stayed in an apartment even though DH's house was an hour away. It's because DH lost his parents few years before he got married. Generally, joint families back home, problems do arise and DH didn't want to be involved with any argument in case it does arise because he knows I come from a small family of just 4 members and he comes from a family of 10 members and I can't handle that. I just want to know if there's something I could say to maybe DH's sister or DH's nephew itself without offending them? Tell them I'm uncomfortable or something? DH understands how uncomfortable I am but he says he can't do anything. Fairydust, he doesn't contribute anything because he has just arrived few weeks back and isn't working as yet and honestly, I am not bothered if he does or not because my main concern is I'm not comfortable with him living at my place. I don't mind even if DH lends him money to get him started and so he can find some place else to stay.

quite a predicament... but if you don't want to bother yourself silly just take this as a test... especially important keeping in mind the Ramadan is approaching and the whole essence of the season is peace, sacrifice and giving... so why not make the ultimate sacrifice of your privacy this season... be a good and hospitable aunt... turn up the air conditioners and hope that he gets a good job (and license) fast so that he moves out! The thing is I don't know if he will ever leave because he already has a visa and plans to go to Fuj for 2 weeks just to get his driving license and then plans to do business in Dubai. I highly doubt if he would leave unless DH or I tell him to. That is what worries me the most! I have a part time maid who does all the cleaning and the dishes but you're right he does come from a background where his mom has spoon fed him all his life. I have no qualms telling him but DH doesn't want me to say anything to him because he thinks they will all start talking ill about me. So, I told DH, in that case you do all of your nephew's work. I know I come across as rude and spoilt but I have had DH's other nephews come over for a day or 2 and I'm the most hospitable aunt. But 2 weeks is a bit much and I feel it has crossed my level of patience and I'm getting sick of this. I really hope Allah gives me patience to deal with this, InshaAllah.

Sorry, I don't know if these ingredients are available here but I'm sure it would be but I did try this diet couple of years back and since I didn't find the ingredients where I lived, I used honey instead of Maple syrup, regular salt, chili powder. For the laxative tea you have another option of having very salty water in the morning. I did it for 10 days and lost 6 kgs. Basically, I just wanted a kick start for my weight loss.

Samsung Galaxy phone or any android phone for that matter, doesn't restrict you like the way iPhone does. On iPhone you have to connect to the laptop for everything. It's annoying for me that way. The new Blackberry phones Z10 and Q10 are good as well but doesn't have too many apps like Android and app store. Galaxy S4 I've heard is the bomb! That being said, I have to tell you that in the 4 years I've used iPhone, I haven't had even a single issue or repair with any of their models whereas S3 after 7 months of using it, last month the motherboard crashed!!! Good thing I had axiom warranty. If you get a Samsung phone, make sure you get antivirus app from the play store because there are quite a lot of unrecognized apps on android phones which have virus in them. edited by kewlzany on 18/06/2013
