It does take a while to hear back from the employers but if it's on urgent basis then they do call back otherwise it can take months. From what I hear, some companies are not in need at the time of advertising but they want to have profiles in their database in case there's a vacancy later on. It's kind of a back up plan. Not all companies but some of them.If you use iPhone or Android phone, get this app called Indeed. You can filter with the kind of job and location and it will search all the job portals and update. It's very convenient. They have a website as well. I have been hunting for a new job for 2 months now and went for about 4 interviews but didn't take up any because it wasn't what I was expecting. Be careful while taking up a job because you will be stuck with that job for 2 years and if you decide to leave before 2 years, you will get a work ban of 6-12 months. Good luck :-) That would depend on salary paid, limited or unlimited contract and whether you are based in FZ or not. I have recently found out that if you have worked for an employer for less than 2 years you need to attest your education certificates so worth getting them done Yeah that's right. In unlimited contract, no ban is imposed if the employee has completed one year work with the current employer. However, in limited contract the imposing of labour ban is at the discretion of the employer. No employment ban in Freezone. I have attested my educational certificates but I would like to know how does that make a difference? Could you please elaborate? edited by kewlzany on 13/06/2013

I daresay the management will tell you anything - they don't want to lose your business !! how many other phone numbers does she also have ? and how could "the carer came in without the owner's knowledge" ??? Exactly! Where was the manager when she came in? I wouldn't trust these people..

You don't need to feel bad. I mean look at her audacity to send an SMS like that. It's very unprofessional. Jeez! She wants you to go on a guilt trip.

Wow, ladies, thank you!! You don't know the relief in my heart at reading your replies! (sorry to sound so dramatic, but its true) When I complained of this to other people, they just snickered and told me I'm not in America anymore, get used to it :( I was going to what I thought was a very reputable hostpital and living in Sharjah its hard to get down into what I consider "deep Dubai" so often for check-ups. Sigh...the search continues insha'allah! I don't know who you have been complaining to but I think they need a wake up call and expect more than that from any pediatrician! I hear ya about living in Sharjah and how hard it is getting to New Dubai and end up disappointed! God knows I have been..

I completely understand the concern that a child's file has been accessed. However, I don't understand why people get so angry when they are asked for a loan from a maid/cleaner/driver etc. It is always possible to say no. These people are in very different financial circumstances to us and often desperately need money they don't have in the short term, but will be able to earn in the long term. I have on several occasions lent money and have always been paid back in full, in the time agreed. I'm not suggesting others do the same, and I'm sure money has been lost this way - people are people and some will take advantage. I'm just baffled why people are so surprised/angry to be asked. What if you urgently needed something for your family, had no resources of your own, and worked for a company that could easily afford to lend you that money. Wouldn't you ask? *ducks below parapet, ready to be shot down* If she is so desperate for a loan then she should ask her employer not clients. Asking clients is not the right thing to do and a breach of trust! edited by kewlzany on 13/06/2013

I bought 3 long sleeve,2 short sleeve and 2 summer dresses on sale at Ebay for a grand total of $55! They are lovely and good quality too. Where in Dubai can you even get one dress for that price? A skirt here costs close to dhs300. Argh! Sorry just fedup of being ripped off. Can you use a UAE C/C for Ebay and will they deliver here? Thank you Make an account on Paypal and you can register your credit card on that. You can use your Paypal account on almost all the websites these days! It's the safest way. Some stores on Ebay ship worldwide but some don't. edited by kewlzany on 12/06/2013 edited by kewlzany on 12/06/2013

labour ban applies also to woman on husband sponsor ship according to that article http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/employment/six-month-work-ban-applies-evenly-to-men-and-women-1.1071595 This is what DH was telling me and I called the labour toll free number as well and they confirmed it is true but if you're taking up another job before the end of the current job and your salary is above AED 12,000 then there is no ban. edited by kewlzany on 12/06/2013 edited by kewlzany on 12/06/2013

Currently under DH sponsorship and will remain so for the present time. Question please - I have an NOC from DH and the company will apply for my labour card. If I choose to leave the company within two years - is it the company or local labour authorities that could place a working ban for however long it is? TIA As per my knowledge, it's the company that can place a working ban from anywhere between 6-12 months. Some company do not place a ban. It depends on the company. I could be wrong. You can call 800-665 to enquire about any labour related issues. edited by kewlzany on 12/06/2013 usually under DH sponsorship no ban The only time bans come into effect are when you leave within 2 years and do not have the correct salary versus education or you are on a limited contract FZ have no bans and NOC no longer apply. It is all based on time of service plus salary/education High School diploma AED5000 Bachelors AED12000 Masters AED14000 Sponsorship by a relative does not apply Yes, You're right. I meant 6-12 months ban if you leave within 2 years or on limited contract. Thanks for the information. But in my opinion, I don't think they adhere to the salary depending on the education rule, do they?

My boy has been at VISS (Grade 2 now) since KG2. I can't recommend any other school better than the quality of education, staff and facilities they have. Wouldn't the school's books be closed for September admissions? I suspect you will go on waitlist (if any)... Oh yeah, that's another school I'm considering and it's close to where I live. Do they take assessment there? Assessments worry me because DS takes time to warm with new people :-( Yes, they have assessments for KG1+ but for those small grades, they totally dont have a Q&A with the child. When my boy was being assessed for KG2, it was a Q&A with me (purely) and the teacher simply asked him to draw something and had small chat with him. By far the BEST school I've come across. I know many royal family children from the Northern Emirates go there. But seriously, I think you would go on waitlist at this time... That's a huge relief for me. Phew! Yeah, I've heard of the royal family children going there and that Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Al Qasimi founded the school. I don't want placement for this year. My son is 28 months now. It will be for september 2014 for FS1. They have nursery too :)! I know but unfortunately DS has had a bad year healthwise because he was going to playschool and fell sick.. a lot, hence after a long and hard argument with DH have decided he will go to nursery only after he turns 3. How old was your son when you enrolled him in KG2 at VISS?

I have offers from SIA and Star international mirdiff... But I have not Seen a single good review of SIA .. I will call VISS tomorrow and See if they are open for admission... What's the fee at VISS ?? At Star it's 33000 for the year , at scholars it's 24000 for the year... What about VISS? Do they have extra curricular activities too?? Star offers alot... Btw is t VISS Australian curriculum? These are the reviews I read couple of months back but they are old posts so maybe things have changed.. Idk.. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=140497 VISS is victorian curriculum and IB school if I'm not mistaken. Fees for FS1 is 28,600. Look up their website.. they have all the information there. http://www.viss.ae/viss/Links/home.aspx

It's a pleasure and believe me I have seen some of the nurseries here and no one fairs better than Big Ben. Not just because I worked there for a brief period, but merely because of their wonderful attitude and dedication to children, education and parents. My two go to Sharjah English School and equally brilliant. That's wonderful. I'm gonna pay them a visit next week. My main concern is DS falling sick at nurseries. He was going to a play school for 2 months and falling sick continuously.. was so bad he ended up having glue ear because of the constant cold. Finally, I pulled him out and he recently recovered completely.

I've seen quite a few reviews on here about Star International School, Mirdif when I was looking at enrolling DS there and most of them were good. Since it's far out for me I've decided on Sharjah English School. Sharjah English school was my priority too but couldn't get a p Place there as its full. Really? Do you need it for this year or next year? Do they have a waiting list? I want a placement there for DS next year for FS1.

Hi I recently had a brace with Nicolas & Asp in DHCC - overseen by v v experienced orthos from Uk and Sweden (one even owns patents on certain models). They told me the best and quickest were the old-fashioned metal ones. They're more visible but so many ppl have them nowadays that it really shouldn't matter :-) It's a fashion statement out here!! One time for National Day, this police officer wanted DH to change the color of the clips in his braces to the color of the UAE flag! LOL

Big Ben Nursery is the first ever dedicated purpose built nursery in Sharjah. Everyone fantastic, equipment and facilities excellent. Regular outings for children and really good teaching in both English and Arabic. I used teach the 1st year class. Alaingirl, if I may ask.. what is the fee structure like at Big Ben? Also, do they have fs1 and fs2? Hi. Of course you can ask. I do not know regarding the fee structure but well known families send their children here - from all over. The youngest was 18 months up to 4/5 years. The principal is absolutely amazing, a local lady who really really cares as well as all the staff. It is mainly English curriculum but Arabic taught and the first also, to have interactive 'whiteboards' with projection system so we could teach all in a very structured way, singing and with play involved. Plenty of outings, as mentioned, dressing up for plays for parents but for me, it was the teaching aspect which why I joined initially. Thank you. That sounds lovely. I will definitely check it out. My son is 28 months now but I want to send him only in september 2014. I've visited British Orchard Nursery and I liked it but its cramped. I'm also wondering if I should just send him to Sharjah Enlgish School nursery because he will continue schooling there. Ahhh.. decisions decisions decisions :-)
