There are two weekly markets in which you can book a table for AED 100- 200 only as long as your product is handmade. One is ARTE and they have bazzars in Times Square and festival city. The other one is Ripe Market in Courtyard in Al qouz. Good luck with your business

Ask for the receipt. If you exchange it for a bag you would actually use is better than keeping the bag and never using it. He will eventually find out that you don't like it.

Hi Nomad, I'm fine. Just a bit stock with the poor kitten. I like the kitten and she is super playful, but the more comfortable she gets in the apartment the harder it becomes for my dog. I really hope to find her a foster or forever home soon.

Every law of this country you hear of does exist. You can, however, live in an existence where it does not see you. You can buy alcohol without a license, drink, have boyfriends, work freelance, wear hot pants to the mall, BUT, if the law DOES decide to pay attention, you will have NO defense. And, courts here are not emotionally driven like in other countries, they are rule driven. There is a social hierarchy. Locals are at the top, then westerners. The more you show respect for the cultures above yours, the easier life will be here. Open minded can be closed minded, if you think open minded means doing whatever you feel 'free' to do and those who do not are wrong. True open minded ness comes when you are friends with someone whose culture is the complete opposite of yours but you embrace that from their perspective in their shoes, life is life, then you can call yourself open minded. Get lots of passport photocopies and buy a printer with a scanner. Locals aren't an indigenous novelty, they are UK to the rest of the western world, Saudi is US. This will never be home. If, when, laws change and they are completely off putting for your affairs which you have organises around previous rules, call the wahmbulance, you will spend a few weekends whining about it before being back at swuare one: that it will not change and you have to There are two Dubais: old and new. New Dubai is the woo hoo aide, where brnches, etc are in abundance. Old Dubai is where more business happens an is more conservative. Many marriages end here because the party life is very available. Satwa is enough. Work out how to get around Satwa, what all the shops are and where they are and you won't need malls for most things. That's all for now, but there is a world of things you can share. I totally agree with you. Here is some other advice I would give. F Find your own life style and find the right friends that match with you. You don't have to wear branded cloths and go to brunches and live a posh area to fit in. Life in Dubai can be easy and fun, if you have good Friends and if you fins your own way. Instead of spending weekend in malls and fancy restaurants, I would suggest trying a day in Bastakia and exploring the art galleries or picnic on the beach. (When the weather allows)

I'm not sure about their prices as I never used their service before, but they have very positive comments on their Facebook page. There are lots of pictures on their page for you to check. http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cake-Boutique-Dubai/153468238031454?ref=ts&fref=ts

This is so cruel and sad. I don't understand the mentality of people who can hurt animals, especially children who can do this. The poor Iguana was just laying eggs and they did this to him. Its disgusting and I really wish the culture would changes and parents would educate their children to be nice to animals and take care of them instead of hurting them. Animals are innocent and defenseless, they can't do anything to protect themselves. This is so awful.

I came to Dubai 10 years ago to study and made friends with 4 classmates who have been my best friends ever since. I can say they are more than friends now and we consider each other family. Along the way, I made some other friends who were either my neighbors or colleagues and we have been great friends for more six years now. Some of my close friends have left the country, one is in UK, another one in USA and some have gone back to Iran. But I have been blessed to still have my group of best friends with who I spend all my free time and share every details of my personal life. It is true that many good friends leave the country, some as you said change and fall in the trap of typical Dubai 5 star lifestyle, but if you are lucky, you will have some true friends who will be life time and will always be there when you need a helping hand or someone to talk to.

Hi ladies, I thought I should give yo an update about my valentines day. Well, I ma glad that I took your advice and did not give him a hint as we broke up on the night before Vday!!!!! The breakup was his decision and it was completely unexpected and I had few days of being shocked and trying to cope with it. It would have been more awful if I had expectations and had my hopes up for a romantic valentines day. To be honest with you, now that I look back, I am glad it ended and I know he wasn't right for me. We had many differences that thought were not important, but now I know that on the long run they would have bothered me and would have caused serious problems. Its been more than a month now and I have put it behind me and have moved on. It was a short relationship after all and I wasn't that emotionally attached. I'm actually excited to be single again, knowing that my perfect man is out there somewhere:)

I am not casting stones here nor am I blaming OP for what happened. There were little details in her original post and I needed to know more to understand how it happened to her. If she goes to the police she will be asked the exact same questions and even more detailed questions. Now that she has explained more details its easier for all of us to relate to her situation and understand what happened. I have been in the similar situation more than once and that is exactly why I wanted to know more details to be able to give her a more insightful advice instead of writing an answer without knowing the whole story. What is really amusing is that your replies to my post are way more judgmental compared to what I wrote to OP. To OP: It seems that you were stock in a terrible situation and I think you acted in a smart way. Since this was an office building, you must inform the building managers as well as the police. And please don't beat your self up and stop crying. I'm glad he did not have the chance to take more advantage of you and you were not hurt.

I'm sorry about what happened to you and like everyone else said, you must call the police. But I'm trying to imagine how the security got too close to you and how did he have the chance to touch you many times!!! Where did this happen and how? Why did you stay and let him touch you? Did he grab you? Did he follow you? I don't mean to be unsympathetic here but I cant understand how it happened and why didn't you say something to him or why didn't you run away?

Well, I'm making him a vcard and will be doing a cute drawing on it myself. The way our relationship started was with a long term plan and as some of you said, I want to collect beautiful memories of the beginning of our relationship. This is the time that will never be repeated. I am not materialistic at all and I get offended by expensive gifts. As long as I get to spend Vday with him and share a nice evening together that is already a romantic gift for me. I am very romantic and I show it all the time, he is too but he doesn't know how to show it. I've been with DH for a long time and we no longer celebrate Valentines. However I have some of the loveliest memories of our "courting" years and Valentines was fun! You've only been with your guy for 3 months - I know Valentines is commercialised and everything is over-priced... but you are building memories and if you're really into each other then forget that it's a commercial day and simply be a young romantic and do something special. It doesn't have to be overly romantic. Just "what shall we do to mark our 1st valentines. How about ....." He might be planning something but if he's not it might be a relief to him that you're happy to suggest something. If your relationship is for the long-term then you have plenty of years to not bother with Valentines...and as you can see from most of the replies on this thread, the married ladies tend not to bother with it :) . What a great response, agree 100% I don't normally collect birthday cards, or Christmas cards, but I keep each card I have gotten for Valentines from my DH. I know sometimes we get irked by retail companies insisting we spend, spend, spend on a certain day--and if we don't, we can be made to feel bitter or stingy. But it's also okay to bother with the cheesy things...building memories as others have said. You never know how important those gestures may become. Quick story. My best friend was previously married and over 40. He met a woman who was also divorced and older. Early in their relationship, she produced a notebook, and said she would like to use it to express their gratitude and feelings to each other. My friend was not the kind of guy to speak about his feelings, let alone write them down. I wouldnt consider either of them the hopeless romantic type, but it is never too late to attempt that kind of thing. he went along with it. When he passed away, suddenly and shocking 2 months later, you can only imagine how grateful the woman was that she had that book, even though they may have thought it a little cheesy at the time. You just never know, and memories in your head are nice...but sometimes physical tokens are even nicer.

I am not married, but enjoyed reading your stories about your husbands. My mom would defiantly have a lot to add to this as my dad has electronics obsession and every time he is in Dubai for a three days visit, he either buys a new mobile or a new camera. The old cameras are usually lost somewhere or he has given them to someone and doesn't remember to whom or there is a new model in the market and he gifts the old one to one of his friends.

I don't have high exceptions and I'm not talking about expensive many course meals in a five star hotel. In fact I would be happy with a red rose and box of chocolate too. And for those of you who asked why should I do something special for him: I am already planing something and thinking about a small, romantic gift for him. Valentine's day is a day but not just another day. It is a symbolic day that gives us an excuse to share our love with our loved ones and make them feel especial. Would you call Christmas, thanks giving and new year's day just another day?? If we think like that wouldn't all traditional dates will be just another day? Can we focus on my question now? ;)

I was in your situation last year and what I did was joining a business networking group called Internations.org . They have monthly meetings and there are many sub groups with different interests that you can join and go to their meetings separately. I also checked my phone book and contacted my other single friends who I didn't go out with much before and suggested that we have weekly girls night outs on weekend. So every Friday we would go out and have loads of fun together. I hope you find your way to meet new people and make new friends too.

Away on a break recently and fell cracking a few ribs. The pain is incredible and I couldn't straighten up for a few days. We had quite an agenda so Dr. suggested a wheelchair to get around. I was taught from a very young age accomodate a person in a wheelchair,it is just plain respect. I could not believe the behaviour of some literally brushing me out the way and some were down right bullies. In Japan I know that high school children have as part of their social studies a class where they have to get out in the town either in a wheelchair or with a white cane etc. to 'see' the the world through the eyes of a person with disabilities. This it seems is sadly lacking in our society today. To all those who live with a disability that makes getting about a challenge , AmyAus comes to mind, after spending time in a wheelchair I have a WHOLE NEW RESPECT for you... it is not easy. edited by Nomad on 27/01/2013 Hope you get well soon.

I think the husband's revenge is very funny and creative. Why would a woman have a profile on a dating site when she is married? What other purpose would she have other than meeting other men and cheating? Even if she is not cheating on her husband, she is active in a dating website behind his back. On top of that she is calling her husband an idiot and crazy. edited by khatooon on 27/01/2013

Hi ladies... Thanks for the feedback... Oops sorry - by recently I meant 4 months...we have been seeing each other at least 5 days a week and we normally stay over at each others a few nights a week..I guess this makes it feel like its quality time and not quantity. I know its not years but I feel like we have got to know each other quite well.. If you have got to know each other so well, why are you having such a hard time communicating then? Communication is the base of any relationship, either with friends, colleague or partners. If you both end up shouting at each other, I think more than having issues with each other you both have anger management issues and communication problem which you have to work on individually if you value the relationship. Sometimes it helps to have a time out during an argument. One of you has to stop fighting and give it an hour of thinking to cool off and be able to talk peacefully!!

Also, you could set up FB page with pics of items and share with your friends and your friends' friends :) good luck Thank you for your suggestions.
