if you are buying off dubizzle, consider taking it to the Rashidya workshop to check it over as those guys are fantastic and will tell you if there are any major faults. Major faults are very expensive with this car. As for the car, enjoy it, it is gorgeous!

send them this link: http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/families-struggle-to-provide-basic-needs-1.84629 then ask them "when you find somebody to help you, can you ask them to share their limitless wealth with us....?" SD is spot on, the Dubai myth is still alive and well.

I have used Churchill and found them really good! their phone number is 800 7076. My sofa is also really big beige suede and they did a great job. I recommend them. Thanks :-) I forgot to ask was it expensive to use them? Thanks very reasonably priced if I remember, I had at least 8 rugs and a sofa done for around 300dhs

Thank you sooo much for your quick replies :0) Tallybalt, we won't be able to put her on our flight as her blood test won't be back before we leave :0( She'll most likely stay with friends until she has the all clear then travel over asap. Sounded like a good idea though. CherryRipe, I've emailed Jetpets to make sure that they didn't 'accidently' add a few zeros. Can't imagine why it is so expensive, she's just a rescue cat, not a flippin white tiger for dreamworld.... Southern star, are you talking about http://www.britvet.com/? I'll shoot an email through to them tonight. :0)

I'm also going to attempt the DESS morning run from home and revisit Greenfields if possible before I sign the acceptance letter. go with your instincts :0) I can't speak highly enough of the KG department at Greenfields, they will be honest with you about how well your LO is adapting. Having said that, if you are going to be here long term, have a good look at the primary school level. Greenfields suited us to a T with KG but did not in the primary level and it was not that easy to move schools once we were there.

The British Embassy, when doing those talks in high schools recently, said they they suggest rape victims keep their mouths shut, against their better judgement, did they not? This is second hand information but more than one person reported it. LB, this is a great initiative. I'm glad that the British Embassy had the good sense to do this. I was wondering if the message from the British Embassy has 'gotten home' for the high school kids? Also, I wonder if the Australian Embassy could also conduct talks to high school kids as well?

If you don't find anything close to home, the lady who runs the soft play area in the Green Community Market rents out a room upstairs. It is lovely, just went to a party there the other day.

tell him that when it comes to him pushing an oversized melon out of his backside then he can choose who is there to support him, until then your uterus.. your choice! all jokes aside.. show him some birthing videos and see whether he can handle it, I only had my DH there but I made sure he knew what to expect, maybe your DH wants to keep it as a private special time.. the birth of your first child, just you and him being the first to see the baby.. maybe he'll agree to it if your Mum leaves for the final act? It could be a long drag and he may appreciate there being someone else around to take the pressure off. well put, OP, I hope you stand by your guns. May your birthing experience be smooth and wonderful! hugs and congrats

I would really like my mother at the birth with me, however my husband feels it should only be us two. I do respect that, but feel he does not understand how scared I am about it all! I have tried to explain but he is having none of it. I am only young and really feel strongly about her being there with me, at the end of the day she has done it three times before! edited by Nenni on 02/06/2011

Do you do anything else except work? Why not join a club or a group? Sport, outdoor, environmental groups? church/mosque/temple? Volenteer somewhere. there's lots of places where you can meet people outside your normal work environment. Have you tried to befriend other people who look lonely/friendless? Great ideas, I know a few people who do rugby and netball at the 7's stadium. Sounds like they love it

As Australia now has an extradition treaty with the UAE, perhaps he could make contact with the Australian embassy and see if his debt can be enforced in aus. If that's the case, perhaps he can be deported? Just thinking outloud

I just checkout out Jebel Ali School's website..looks great so far, from what I can see, the fees are the same all the way up to year 6? Do they have a Secondary School? Or isit still being built? who knows?lol I am sure it is on their agenda but you never know. Schools do what they can to adapt to a changing demographic and fluid laws/regulations.....

Oh Dear! I have a party booked there for next week, the children are slightly older though. The enterance gate is a big issue for me, you cant possibly keep an eye on your children in there all the time what if you have more than one child?? and someone could easily open that gate and your child could walk out. Very scarey thought. Im lucky when my children are in there they never want to leave and it's a case of dragging them out kicking and screaming, so if they did see the gate open they probably wouldnt go any where near it. (I hope!!) If you can't change the venue, perhaps you should make contact with all the parents and make it clear that they can't just drop off and run. Some parents may think that they can leave their children under your care and the stress will ruin you. Also, perhaps a quick call to MM to ask about their safety and remind them that you have a party may help....

LB.. you are going to be situated very close to one of the best schools (IMHO) in Dubai.. Jebel Ali Primary School. Their waitlist is pretty scary but with two years up your sleeve, you may get a spot. Just do a quick search on the school and you'll see some pretty positive comments.;)

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who has been flamed by a Singpore Forum. I also asked an innocent question only to be told to stay in the UAE and that my type wasn't welcome in Singapore.... Really mean, vitriolic stuff, was a bit stunned really.:(

Eco, your friend must be so stressed. Good on you for caring... If she cannot borrow to pay off the debt (as another poster suggested), I would very seriously consider leaving, getting a job back home and then making a payment arrangement from the Uk. It can be done. And it's better than ending up in jail here. I wish her the best.

Sad....... Never seen that at a brunch... Even sadder is the fact that their lack of involvement with the kids will bight them on the ar$e when the LO's grow up... For the life of me, I will never understand why people don't want to enjoy their own kids..:(

Are you kidding? After coping with the kids on your own - it's chin chin! Seriously though - I think in an emergency you're better off with a neighbour driving you to hospital, so as long as it's only the glass ( or two I guess) I'd say go for it! heh, heh, I hear you:) ps: as a work widow myself, can I suggest that you form a strong network of friends to rely on if this happens?

Hi Sk... sorry, don't know anybody who brought their maid with them with less than 1 year under their belt...:( Perhaps you could try to hook up an au pair in the Uk during your visit back home? I have heard of http://www.findaupair.com/serverbusy.asp If you still want your maid to come over, try talking to the embassy staff face-to-face, you never know, rules can change and you just might be the first. Good luck and let us know how you get on;)

I would tread lightly. I assume that you or your family is put at a disadvantage through their illegal opperations? If so, an anonymous email (they still be able to know it is you) may be your best bet. Remind them that they need to respect the laws here or they will be reported. You never know the full story.. Perhaps they are suffering financially....>. Perhaps they know people who are willing to overlook licencing? Perhaps they know people of influence and this could backfire? Just tread carefully and don't make this decision without the support of your family. We are in the Middle East after all and your actions (whether right or wrong) could have consequences ....

Just called them (lady called sonia) who said that they are launching on 21st May. At the moment, the Green Community is not on their delivery list...:( But if we get 10 orders, it's worth their while and they'll deliver to us!! So if you are from the Green community and want to give this a try, register yourself as a customer with them (sorry, didn't ask how, just email them)!! can't wait to try it!!

But its not fair on my pooch who had a long flight and a stint in Quaretine. All my stuff is here and baby River is settled. Hubby seems to be enjoying being back but im so grumpy. I just dont know what to do. Help!! wanna swap?;)

Hi SK, I gather that you need her to work for you over the break? If so, try and withdraw her visit application and try the domestic visa as visit visa may cause probs for you in the Uk and here. People take their maids to their home countries often here (from what I read on this board). Don't lose hope, it can be done,;)

Just had a strange phone call from "Etisalat", that I could barely understand, saying I've won a prize of AED500,000. He gave me a "lucky number" to check and see whether it is the same as my sim card number. If so, to call hime back. What's that about? How did he get hold of my number for whatever scam this is? ANyone else had a similar phone call? AED500,000?! phffffft... chump change babe, I just won 2 million from Du.... Just thinkin.... when you get yours, why don't we hire a yacht, put a flag into the 'world islands' where we can claim them then go out whale shark spotting for the Atlantis whale shark that 'lost' its tracking device when it 'swam away safely' (cough, cough)...
