In the UK you cannot apply for a gun license without valid reason. They don't issue them to people who want a gun 'just because they want one'. The police check the property to make sure all fire arms are locked away in proper firearms lockers. Police checks, mentality checks etc etc. The article states that even though certificates were issued in 10 minutes, all the weapons have to be taken for ballistics testing, so they know if one was ever used in a crime - exactly who it belongs to. I find this quite horrific. Don't start crying when gun crime suddenly shoots up. You think road rage incidents are bad? Then you have someone carrying a fire arm? Bad, bad, bad idea. edited by Chocs01 on 10/09/2012 Couldn't agree more!!

Hi AJW There is a clinic down at the community centre that is really good, a vet across from the ranches in the polo club, and not sure of nearest dentist but my hubby uses one on the Jumeriah road. Hope this helps.

If your're meat eaters then you can't go wrong with The rib rooms at the emirate towers. We went there last year for our anniversary and am tempted to go this year but probably will choose somewhere different. Also there are vouchers in fine dining book so you can save money!

PS I'm really missing my group, too. Weird but I loved looking forward to weighing in and feeling so good about myself when the scales showed a loss! And it was such a huge help being among people on the same wavelength. I'm in AR and would be interested in meeting once a week, the support us girls used to give reach other is priceless, you just don't get that from online membership.

NannyMcPhee I would so love those resources. We have a little group here in Mirdif, nothing official just a bit of support and we are starting up again in a couple of weeks. DubaiCat instead of the Mullerlights I use the Elle & Vie 0% or Onken fat free vanilla/strawberry yogurt. You can definitely get fry light here, I have bought it several times or I use the Pam spray. You are right no low fat sausages but you could try Spinney's chicken or beef meatballs. They seemed to work for me. You simply just have to find alternatives to what you were using before. You can do it here, I did it. I am restarting again this week with the overall goal of losing 3 stone. Good luck! edited by chants39 on 08/09/2012 Hi chants39 I'd really like to attend your group when you start back up, would you please post on here when you do or I can give my email details so you can let me know. I definitely believe that if you do it as a group you're more likely to succeed having support, I really miss my old group back home. :)

Update: Hubby called into pharmacy to buy something for his 'man flu' and told the guy in there about the straighteners who actually remembers him buying them, he told hubby that they have a 2yr warranty so to take them back and he will replace them, I'm so pleased, especially as I'd emailed the add on the website and they've not even replied. At last, some decent proper customer care in Dubai!!

We took DS 9yrs on Monday, he absolutely loved it, most rides are about 10-15 dirhams each so the 100 dirhams we put on the card didn't last long, but I told him that was he's limit!! Be prepared to be pushed around in the queues though as some people don't seem to understand the meaning of the word, mostly kids that the parents were pushing forward. The Ice Age performance i thought was really good and free to watch, the acrobatics too were good and again free, overall a great place to take the children out of the heat for a few hours, although I didn't find it cold, I too needed to take a couple of headache tabs on leaving, I think it was mostly the lights for me, too much flashing!!

To whoever told me about Jamal. He was amazing. He turned up the same night I called him with book and books of samples, measured up and gave me a quote. When I accepted it, he said it would take approx 1 week. I rang him a few days later to add a couple of other things to the order and he asked if I would allow him a slightly longer time to deliver. He turned up today as promised with 3 of his colleagues. I now have gorgeous curtains at all my windows and am feeling very pleases. All I can say is thank you so much to the ladies who recommended him and I will now do the same to anyone who asks. Once again EW has come up trumps. Please share his details as I will be needing new curtains after the summer vacation.

Malibumandy it seems I was lucky enough to get there before you as I too bought a bottle of the peach flavour, it's not my favourite but beggars can't be choosers, and yes we love the stuff too, my children were brought up on it and I don't recall any of them bouncing off the ceilings!! edited by kimball 65 on 28/05/2012

We preferred Fujairah - le meridien al aqah was fab and the food was good too. child friendly staff. not sure about kids club though. I didn't enjoy RAK. We stayed at the Cove Rotana - terrible accommodation, average food at breakfast, yucky beach and the tiled area around the pools is very slippery. If you're keen on a "staycation" then the Atlantis has great specials for June - gorgeous accommodation, best breakfast buffet I've had and lots to do for kids. We're are going to Le Meridien tomorrow so I'm glad it's got good reviews.

If I were on my own I wouldn't really lose sleep over which one but with kids, I would definitely fly Virgin. I've found them to have better entertainment, 'goody bags,' and kids' meals and whilst crew on either can be good or bad I've found Virgin staff in general to be more accommdating with kids. Also, if there isn't a significant price difference, I would ALWAYS choose Virgin and fly into Gatwick instead of Heathrow. I personally can't stand flying through Heathrow and with Heathrow immigration queues currently in the headlines, I'd avoid it if I could. Not to mention we are approaching holiday time when BA staff seem to go on strike....:( Do Virgin fly in to gatwick?

It's actually a remake, the original was 1989 and at the time really scared me but the new one is far scarier. There is also a stage production that apparantely is so scary that people have actually walked out of, I'm thinking of trying to see it in the summer.

I personally don't use any oil, just parboil, drain, let cool for about 10 mins then give a really good shake, I then spray with a fat free spray and either roast in the oven or put in my air fryer, always come out perfect. Boil the water first then add potatoes and carry on boiling for about 10 mins, don't over boil or they will just fall apart and end up as mash. edited by kimball 65 on 11/03/2012
