Our child was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1 last week. I am anxious to find an excellent G.P. or Paediatric G.P. who has extensive knowledge and experience treating diabetic patients. Any personal recommendations would be gratefully received. Also, does anyone know of any Diabetic Support Groups in Dubai? Many thanks in advance for replies x

Urban Energy did fun Hip Hop classes for boys and girls. If I remember correctly I paid 60 (or was it 65 AED?) an hour per class. Check their website to see if they are still running them.

Thanks for taking time to reply FairyDust and Cherry ripe. Much appreciated! The mermaid tails I've been looking at are swim ones with the mono fins (either already inserted or purchased as part of a set with tail + bikini top) and there seems to a big range in prices. I thought a tried and tested recommendation on quality + appearance would be my starting point. Yes you're right Cherry ripe, there are safety concerns with their use. I would only let DD wear it in the pool when I am in with her, for use in the shallow end only and for short periods of time.

Hiya cali2Dubai, There is a weekly playgroup for Greens and Tecom Mums and their children, you will find it on FaceBook if you search under: Greens Sunday Morning Playgroup. x Might be fun for your little guy to take him to the Lake around 4 p.m. as there always seems to be a good number of little people playing there (under Gulf Tower 1 by the new sandpit area close to bridge) from around 4 p.m. until it gets dark.

Interesting thread Roxan51! I felt the same way before my test, i.e. I wanted to practice practice practice safely with someone experienced by my side without paying an arm and a leg to a driving school. My instructor warned me though that there were extremely harsh penalities if I was caught driving without a valid license here, and FairyDust is right about there being no provisional license. Pity! I passed my driving test + passed it well + confidently because I was happy driving in the Al Quoz area. However I still don't feel qualified to drive on Dubai's roads and highways alone! As a woman I wasn't required to do any night time driving lessons, but this was obligatory for male students. (On account of some ladies not wanting to drive alone with male instructors as there are no female instructors taking night time classes). Also, I was not given any practical experience of roundabout usage. I only read up about it in my theory books. When I asked why, I was told: "No need, there are no roundabouts in Al Quoz". It's assumed that the real practice begins after the driving assessment if passed. I was told exactly that by my instructor, i.e. to practice with my husband next to me!

Hiya ladies, need to pick your brains. I'm currently paying 6.25% on a flat rate home loan from a local Dubai bank. We have a 2 bed apartment in the Greens. 6.25% seems a bit excessive to me. But I may be wrong? If you have a home loan from a local bank, or are knowledgeable on the subject, would you mind sharing with me your rate or your understanding of the average rate at present? Thank you so much in advance for sharing!

The Maria Cristina Foundation is an incredible charity! Please click this link to find out about it. It's a charity that spreads hope and love to the children of Dhaka Slums. Donated items can be dropped off at her home residence along SZR close to the metro station. Email: [email protected] for further enquires. http://mariacristinafoundation.org/maria-conceicao/ When I watched the TEDxDubai2011 video in the top right corner + heard Maria explain the charity she founded in her own words I was moved to tears.

One year we had a wonderful view of the fireworks at Burj Al Arab + The Palm from the public beach there between them both, next to the palace, we parked at Sufouh Park + walked to the beach. I would definitely recommend you bring warm clothing + a torch + perhaps a blanket to sit on. It wasn't too loud for the children either. Happy New Year :)

Ossie it's really really easy to make fondant at home from melted mini marshmallows. Trust me, really easy. http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/25045/easy-marshmallow-fondant-icing.aspx You need mini marshmallows (white), a microwaveable bowl lightly greased with butter + with a table spoon or two of water at the bottom of the bowl. You melt the marshmallows on high power 10 to 15 seconds at a time until all the marshmallows have melted then add sieved icing sugar, a lot, until no longer sticky. Turn out onto a icing sugar dusted clean work surface + just knead + knead. I always add a tsp of natural vanilla essence to flavour the fondant to the mini marshmallows + stir in before adding icing. You know the fondant is ready when it is no longer sticky when you pull it apart. Wrap in cling wrap + let sit a while before use. It will keep in the freezer for months or in the fridge in completely sealed cling wrap. Can be ever so slight warmed up in the microwave if when you are using it it starts to get a bit stiff, or just ever so slightly wet hands + continue kneading. It is actually tastier than regular fondant IMHO. I can make some for you are living nearby The Greens! Best colours to use are Wilton gel ones as they don't dilute the fondant so you have to add more icing sugar. It's as easy as playdough to mould+shape.

Lalalayla I think you have got to trust your instincts. We have instincts for a good reason and yours told you there was something not right about this man and his behaviour. I would also have taken the matter seriously. Your vigiliance is to be commended. Protecting our children is crucial. Tell security, that's my advice. At least then Secruity know and can monitor the situation. If he's up to no good + security have had a chat with him chances are he'll stay away. Being too careful is so much better than doing nothing. If it were me, I'd want to know if a stranger kept peering over the fence into my garden! And I'd definitely want to know if there was a stranger watching children in the playground! Speak to other parents in the community, ask if they've noticed him about. Ask the children if any of them know him. Remind them of 'stranger danger' and staying safe. He may be harmless, but then again he may not. Don't leave this alone until you know for sure. Thanks for posting!

I wasn't sure which pantomine to see either, but eventually opted for Snow White+the 7 Dwarfs at Ductac today as was a bit cheaper at 130AED pp. Sooo glad we went, the children + I really enjoyed it. Marvellous entertainment+worth the expense as we'll all be remembering this panto for years to come. The cast really got the audience involved. It had all the traditional elements I was hoping for + some very talented key actresses + actors. I'm not a mum of any of the cast or in anyway involved in the production (promise!), just wanted to share my feedback on the show. :)

I think I know and yes you're right Dolleymadison, Emaar aren't planning on building us a park, community centre or playground unfortunately. According to a board that was put up briefly a month or so ago, they had plans to build a residential building of 7 storeys high. But that signage was removed + now there is a guard there every day. So I asked one of them + according to him a residential tower will be built of a similar size to Gulf Towers, i.e. a high rise. 7 storey or high rise, either way it's going to block out our gorgeous view of the Emirates Golf Course, JLT + Dubai Marina. I'm hoping it won't be too noisy or dusty or cause 2 much disruption to traffic. I'm wondering if Emaar will need to use part of the land around the lake for additional space?

I think the reference to 'new' Greens refers to those that border with the lake, i.e. Turia,Tarano, Arno, Links E+W, Golf Towers 1+2, Fairways, Mosela + Travo. While the 'old' Greens refer to those buildings on the other side of str.7? That's what I understand by the terms 'old' and 'new' anyways. Maybe wrong. OP, we love Turia + have in the past rented 2 apartments there. Both lovely. Security was awesome + we never hd any issues with maintenance. The rear facing apartments have some stunning green views. Turia has a fab location as the village shops + Choithrams are right on the doorstep. Some Turia apartments have wood fitting in a light 'birch' colour and some in a dark 'mahogany' coloured wood. Pool nice and quiet with lifeguard on duty. Gym well equipped and clean. Can only think of good things to say about the place.

Hi Nedala, I think there is still a special shoe shop in Oasis Centre off SZR called, hmm I think 'Foot Solutions'. It's at the back of the mall, behind the travellator. (Correct me if I'm wrong with the name ladies). I took my children there last year because I was worried about flat footedness too. They have a special machine that highlights problem areas on the foot, inbalances etc. the child stands on it and you can see for yourself if there's a real issue or not. Their shoes are VERY expensive though. They also sell lambs wool instep inserts, or did when I visited, that you could ask a cobbler to slip under the inner portion of the sole to encourage an arch? I may be wrong but i was under the impression that walking barefoot was a great work out for little feet, especially in sand.

This is just my humble opinion, I hope I don't offend anyone with it. I most definitely would not like it. In your position I would feel as though my best friend, my husband, were leaving me out + not caring for my feelings. It's not about whether your feelings are right or wrong actually, you simply feel them. No doubt you've been over and over it in your own head + found you can't come to terms with their friendship. Even if he doesn't like it, if he loves you he should put you and your feelings first over and above her. Even if their friendship isn't physical it does sound caring/and intimate (she's confiding in him like a brother etc.) Doesn't she have a brother or any other girlfriends to confide in instead of your Bestie? I wouldn't like my husband discussing our private life with another woman, or our children over dinner alone. She and your husband are enjoying the attention and you're not a part of it. If you were fine with that then that would be fine, but you're not so they should respect that and stop. edited by KT on 03/08/2013

I'm also a JAPs mum + very close to 100% happy with the school. Totally NOT money grabbing + mostly exceptionally good at communicating with parents IMHO. I thought the new fee for the proposed STS buses was low while the safety standards sound reassuringly high. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that enough parents responded to the survey + the new bus system will go ahead for September. I think the school has proven that they DO listen to their parent community + have made a valiant effort to solve this bus issue.

RuthM, DesertRose + Geordie1, you are lovely lovely ladies :) Thanks for taking the time to reply back with these intelligent responses. I was giving my DS vitabiotics vitamin supplements which has vit. B6 and B12, Iron, Vit. D and folic acid etc. but only off + on. But as of today I'm going to try giving a dose daily + see if it reduces the number of times pins+needles is happening. Diabetes or anxiety hadn't occurred to me. I'll give it 10 days, if the vits. make no difference then I think a blood + urine test to check for these things will be the next step. Thank you x

Thanks for the tip off Cherry Ripe. I went to 'Creative Minds' site + saw a wooden doll on there: "Ballerina Leah" by Mellisa + Doug. Yey! Will be looking into switching to Masafi then! I've had a bad experience with Nestle who I was using up until November of last year. Throughout the summer months Nestle were leaving their bottles (new and old) out in the full daylight on the pavement outside my building, not even bothering to leave them in the shade. Often for hours until the bottles were brought inside to our apartments or removed. My bottles were always hot. I took various fotos over several months to show management, because I understood that leaving bottles out in the direct sunlight was dangerous? Nothing changed so I closed my account with them. So Masafi it is then. Thanks for the recommendation guys :)

Dear Mammasrock, this is awful, you poor thing. I think it is very generous + mature of you to share your experience. I've been a little curious about Botox, although I haven't looked into it, but I guess I have always thought about it as a 'maybe' option one day. Won't be thinking of it as an option now though! How are you now? Have you made a full recovery? Truly hope so. God bless you and thank you for sharing your point of view + experience.
