I've noticed that "too much" often gets used wrongly to replace "so much" or "a lot" in a sentence. Because 'too much' indicates something negative rather than the positive the speaker is trying to convey. Example: Question: "Do you like Dubai?" Answer: "Yes I like it too much!" If I were to take this answer at face value I would think they meant they liked it literally 'too much' i.e much more than they should. "My head is paining" urrrrgh! That is sooo annoying. It's "I have a headache" or "I have a painful headache" or "I'm in pain". The add on of "isn't it?" unnecessarily at the end of a sentence. "Wanting Pepsi" or "Give me Pepsi" instead of "Pepsi please" or "Please may I have a pepsi?" Yes absolutely "tell me" as a way of answering the telephone is just so rude. It's like saying I'm too important to bother with being polite and too busy to bother with formalities so get on with it woman + "tell me!" Got told by a taxi driver the other day (after he'd turned left twice when I'd asked him to turn right twice) "Madam, I am not understanding. You not speaking very good British!" :)

Jammiemonster this really helps A LOT! Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. Exactly the sort of information I wanted to know. I've found the whole schools search thing very confusing. Even though I parted with yet another 500AED to register my LO at Regents I've had niggling doubts. I was told by the lady giving me the tour that KG1 classes were a max. of 22 with 1 Teacher + 1 TA. So it goes up to a max. of 26 in FS2? I didn't get told this. When I went to tour I saw a whole bunch of ladies waiting outside the front door there for interviews. When your son was there did you notice a high turn over of staff? I asked the registrar if Regents had a high staff turnover she said we live in Dubai so it's normal, all schools have a high turnover. The other thing that got me about Regents was that they demand another 500AED (on top of the 500AED registration fee) to assess the child. So you part with 1,000AED before you even know if your son/daughter has a place.

So DESS (thanks Jammiemonster) + Jebel Ali Primary school both start at Reception level, ie. FS2. Any other schools start with reception? I like the idea of my LO starting in at the beginning but from 4+ years.

Hands down got to be the MOBY WRAP for this age group (IMHO anyways). Tried loads with my firstborn, maya/bjorn/mamasmilk etc. But when DD came along we used the MOBY from day one + we both love it + I fervently wished I'd found it sooner for first time around. Very contented bub, at first sign of a whimper in the evenings if she felt a bit of colic, straight into the moby + then str8 off to sleep, Marvellous :) I like the ERGO too now that she is 9 months (already, ahh!) Wasn't comfortable using the ERGO even with the insert until she was over 8.5Kgs. You can bend down, lean over + still be hands free when using the Moby because the baby's head is securely supported. Big plus point also is that strangers can't be tempted to touch your little one as you can hide them away :) They are upright so no worries about breathing being hampered. Downsides to Moby is that it's a big piece of fabric + if you're putting it on outdoors it may trail a bit on the floor. Downside to ERGO is the putting it on isn't quite as easy as putting on the Bjorn. But both the MOBY + ERGO are better fr the bubs spine as they aren't hanging with fabric between their legs. In the moby + ergo their bottoms are cupped + they are in a sitting position. Brought my Mobys (I have 2) from Dubizzle. Moby feels so snug it's like being pregnant with them again but better because you can see their face :)

Am loving this idea of reception (4 years +) or FS2, as non to keen to start DS in 'big' school (albeit the junior section) at the tender age of 3 years. I know that Jebel Ali Primary start at reception, but can anyone tell me which other schools start at reception? i.e. which schools don't have a FS1 but start at 4 years only?

You're probably right Trixibell I was probably just unlucky with my timing. The day I toured FS1 + FS2 I was wearing long touching the floor trousers so naturally that would have to be the day the lav floor was covered in wee! :) Visitors have to rely on first impressions only, parents know better, so feedback very appreciated. A max. of 19 children to 1 teacher +1 assistant at DBS is better than 25 kids to 1 teacher + 2 assistants at DIA (which is the other place we have our son registered at). Haven't registered DS at Wellington, just DBS, DIA + Kings (sadly not a chance there). Jammiemonster + Trixibell do you find your kids get lots of physical exercise? Is it easy to chat to their teachers at pick up+ are you kept informed of what your kiddies are learning/doing in class? Marianna, if my little guy is successful on the March 1st assessment day at DBS + we go with it + your DD also decides to take the offer then absolutely playdates would be fab! We are in the Greens, so already neighbours. If DBS run summer camps too I'll be sending him to those to get him as familiar with the space as I can before term starts.

Breteuil, can't give any information on DIA as I'm actually looking for feedback on the school from parents with kiddies there. Sorry! Just wondered if you could give me your feedback with regards to teaching standards + parent/staff communication? How is the drop off/pick up traffic? Anything really. My DS will be in the primary section though, have you heard anything that might be of interest to a prospective parent?

Also trying to decide whether DBS is right for my DS entering FS1 in 2011. The little kiddies did appear to be happy + I liked the bustle. IMHO it does look very scruffy though! And I did observe that it wasn't too clean, wee wee all over the floor in the FS1 toilets etc. I thought Wellington was smarter + had newer facilities, but I 'felt' it to be a bit more reserved + less friendly than DBS. Could well be wrong though. Has anyone send their kids to a Summer Camp at DBS, maybes that would be a good way introducing DS to the school so he gets comfortable with the space before term starts? I need to enquire about their settling in period. Marianna, maybe nearer the date + if you do accept a place at DBS for your DD for FS1 in Sept. you'd like to meet for a playdate?

So far I've read some negative things about DIA in secondary school, but that it is OK in primary - not very encouraging? DBS I've read that the primary + secondary are separated successfully so no need to worry about little ones getting trampled. That the teachers at Regents are young + enthusiastic but that parent communication aint great. Not much to go on. Please share parents of Regents/DIA/DBS! There are a lof of us Mums new to the schools thing that would appreciate current feedback on these schools. Thanks edited by KT on 10/02/2011

Tarcin have you found someone? This new look has me a bit confused, you are based in Dubai right? I know of a really lovely hardworking Phillipino lady who is looking to find work as soon as possible. She is AMAZING with kids, they adore her! She has a lot of her own but they are grown up now (she is in her 40s). She is super energetic + trustworthy. I'd employee her myself except I haven't the money or space. f you want more details please feel free to email me on katehs at gmail dot com.

Nipped into pharmacy to check on the Probiotics powder you told me about designbabe, sounds great, but was a bit steep at 94 aed. Pharmacist said I could used 5ml of Lactulose to soften the works on a very occasional basis. Love the soft dates idea LJB2010. Actually let her nibble a bit of date for the first time a day or two ago + she loved it. So that's probably a good way to go. She wasn't too keen on Weatabix when I tried her on that this morning. Blew some very determined fat raspberries onto my spoon to show her contempt, LOL! But with a little persistence she may change her mind. Thanks Ladies! edited by KT on 31/01/2011

thanks that's good to know DesignBabe. I'll get some. So you think that natural yoghurt does ease constipation then due to the probiotics it contains.

I lost the last 4kgs (bringing me back to my pre pregnancy weight) within 2 weeks of stopping BF my first. Defininte perk. Not so cool was that 2kgs of that was probably just off my boobs! Felt kind of sad for a little while afterwards, as it's quite a milestone in your relationship with your LO. Though I'm sure most DHs are glad to get 'their' playthings back again!

I think 14.5 months is a bit too early to start potty training in earnest but definitely not too early to start familiarising her with what a potty looks like + what it's all about. She may like to play with it, put it on her head! sit on it, put things inside it etc. So it's a great idea to have a potty or two about your home. You could start by putting a soft toy on the potty + making the right sounds to help her to understand what it's for. I started my little guy off doing wees in the potty by initially letting him take it in the bath with him. He would get into the bath + sit down on the potty for fun, the warm water around his feet would make him do a little wee + then I would praise him enthusiastically + clap etc to let him know he had used the potty for it's correct purpose! LOL, brings back memories :)

Sounds like you got an over zealous crew member. I don't recall anything in the DGCAA manual (safety rules/operating procedures) saying that a baby must be sitting forward facing on the mother's lap. Babies are squirmy little things, rules of this nature just can't be aplied. If I were you, I'd just smile sweetly + do my own thing! (Once the crew member has passed their security checks all clear to their senior in which ever section of the aircraft they are in, they too must take their jumpseat for take off/landing, and they have to remain seated too. So when they are sat down get your boobs out + away you go! :)

Hiya Ladies, there is a regular Greens Mums, Bumps, babes + tots meet up every Sunday Morning in Al Sidir (opposite the Shops) community room. We all bring a couple of toys that our little ones are happy to share + the organiser brings playdough + colouring items. It's really relaxed + friendly, all mums of all nationalities welcome. From 9:30 to 11:30am. You can come + go from the community room + use the outside playground too if you prefer.

Water play is fun. Make sure the water temp. stays warm + fill tub with lots of colourful toys, they will love splashing about + exploring what sinks/floats etc. Don't have to wait till the evening bath time to do this. If you have a balcony you can get a large sized plastic basin or paddling pool + fill it with sand (ELC sell sand very cheaply). Little ones always love playing with sand, but stay close as it can often end up in their mouths! My guys love tents + things to crawl in + through. Get creative + build your own with chairs, blankets etc. or buy a cheap tent from Carrefour or IKEA + swop around the toys you put inside. The thing toddlers love to play with most of all is Mummy of course so you'll be having to crawl around on your hands + knees too if you go with the tent option :)

BFC to answer your question: both. Carriers are sold + you also get a chance to try on + see them demonstrated. My favourite of all time carriers though is the MOBY WRAP, it's been a God send, used it from day one + I'm still loving using it with my 8 month old. The EllaRoo is a smiliar concept (fabric is non stretch though, the MOBY is a stretchy cotton jersey). I've seen ERGOs (also comfy), Maya Wraps/Ring slings (personally I never got on with these) + breast feeding shawls being sold at these meets.

Can't recommend Dr. Shanti Medhi highly enough. I was very impressed. I felt safe in her hands, + she never made me feel rush. She takes her time with each patient + genuinely cares. I think she's marvellous.
