I have a fan oven, I set it so it turns off after 3 hours. But no I probably wouldn't leave the gas on while you are at work, unless you have a maid to turn it off for you LOL

Fry some beef, onion and garlic, add carrot and celery (if you want) mix in tbsp of tomato puree, add 100 mls of marsala wine, a bottle of red wine and same amount of beef stock, add in 6 anchovies (these add so much flavour and dissolve when cooked) and cook on low in the oven until you get home. Take about 10 mins to prepare. Serve with mash potato and veg Fry chicken, onion, garlic and turmeric, stir in tomato puree, add tin of chopped tomatoes and chicken stock cubes. Cook for 30 mins and serve with pasta or rice. I like salads so I prepare in advance Boiled chicken ( boil it with a onion and stock cube) Sweet potato, cut into cubes, sprinkle with oil and chilli and cook in the oven for 30 mins Then have it daily with Avocado Rocket, coriander, parsley, chives Tomato Broccoli or whatever you want. I also make my own dressings in advance so its easier

I hear that Hartlands day is rather long 8-4pm. I think this is way too long for children under 11 years old. In my experience I dont think the school matters as they are all much of a muchness, it matters what you do at home with your child (under 11 years). I would chose a school that finishes early so you have more time to teach them at home and for the child to have hobbies out of school. On that premise you might as well homeschool. Much of a muchness? Who are you trying to fool? All schools have a curriculum they need to follow. There is limited time during the school day to fit in all the subjects from sport, art, music and the core subjects thats why children need to also learn at home. Times tables, reading, maths and English all need reinforcing at home if you want your child to do well. This is why schools give homework!! Anyone who thinks that there is a perfect school out there that cares for the individual child's education, better than a parent, is going to be disappointed. Keeping a 6,7,8 year old at school from 8-4 in the afternoon is just too long and counterproductive IMO Constantly harping on about a school on every thread, when the school is not even open makes me feel you have a hidden agenda. Its blatant advertising IMO edited by ladymary on 05/05/2015

Why are you allowed to give a 4 week old baby gripe water when they are not even allowed a few sips of cool boiled water? You would only give 5ml of Gripe Water occasionally with a dropper, not sips of it to drink like water. Its a medication not a drink. edited by chezmoi on 05/05/2015 Obviously I know that. I dont understand the logic in babies under 6 months having medicine before every feed when they are not allowed to have water at all.

Both mine had cooled boiled water from almost day one as did my grandchildren. Me too. But now babies shouldn't have water until 6 months they also don't start food until they are 6 months old

The games are soooo addictive they make normal life seem boring to a child. As they get older hormones starts to kick in, I have noticed that when my teen plays on his game he becomes more introverted, aggressive and generally not nice. I have taken the game away and now hes back to a lovely boy again. It really does get worse as they get older. Could you try making him busier in other more productive ways ?

Unfortunately for you, you are looking to move into the busiest year ( 7) places have already been allocated and appeals registered. I would suggest coming back earlier to sort it out before September. edited by ladymary on 28/04/2015

hi ladies, Does anyone know where I can report medical negligence pertaining to a doctor at a private hospital here in Dubai? I went with a recommendation for an obstetrician/ gynaecologist from some of the ladies here on the forum and had the most horrendous experience that has had terrible repercussions and I would like to make sure that this does not happen to anyone else. Thank you in advance! Thats why I never take recommendations from this site. Do your own reserch

Does anyone have up to date info on expat kids' eligibility for unemployment benefit when they return to the UK as adults? I read something about having to reside for six months before claiming. Is this still true? TIA Wouldnt it be better to encourage them to get a job !!! Or further education ?:angry: edited by ladymary on 13/04/2015 Wow. A lot of assumptions are being made on this thread. Thanks for the constructive responses, sorry to the rest. Had you asked about disability allowance for a 18 year old responses would have been different. The UK government has clamped down on giving benefits to young people for a reason......most 18 year olds should be in full time education or working.

My 15 year old DS is taking a compulsory GCSE in french next year and I am trying to find a way to boost his chances of getting a decent grade. I had thought that a summer camp would be a good idea. Does anybody have any experience of these? Do they actually work? I have had a look around, but many of them seem very "social". DS would, without a doubt, find an english speaker to hang around with and slope away from any real attempts to learn french. I think that a more formal academic approach would suit better, but I'm struggling to find a school that does this. Any recommendations? I would find a weekly tutor rather than paying out for a residential trip, GCSE French is not that difficult. Mobile phone apps are also good

It must depend on who you associate with back home. None of my friends are doom and gloom. You cant blame a country for your lack of success in life, its up to the individual to make the best of what they have.

I think your DD would need to be level 5/6 by the end of year 5 to be in with the best chance of a place. You can find past SATs papers on line. Also I would practice UK 11+ past papers for top independent schools

Did you get the results for the tests? I would be more worried about the results than having the same test twice. If there was little improvement in the 3 months in between the tests you have a good argument as you can't actually prove she lied. Or it could also be a sign of a school in financial difficulties. ;)

Plans change over summer and people decide to move elsewhere. This puts schools in a difficult position as they cant fill the empty places.

My Mum has just had a chat with my brother. He is taking over feeding tiny baby at night. He is also going to ask the midwife's advice tomorrow refeeding and make sure SIL listens. SIL was told she was having a boy and girl but had two boys I think shes depressed that she didnt have a little girl, poor thing. Thanks to the posters that offered non judgemental comments

The midwife is coming on Weds but I dont want to say anything to her. I think the midwife will see they've not put on weight. SIL is also only going to the bigger twin because hes much easier to feed, she only feeds the tiny one at night, if he wakes she puts him in another room with a dummy. I can see warning signs here. When I feed the tiny one I can get him to drink 65 ml but it takes 30 mins. The bigger one takes 70ml in 10 mins so I think this is also why she doesn't want the tiny one having more milk, because it takes so long.

Hi, yes I did buy it in Dubai in the Nakkash Gallery on SZR years ago. I brought a make called Rausch and Dedon which were quite expensive however my Mother brought hers around the same time, from ACE and hers looks as good as new too. http://www.nakkashgallery.com/ The smaller the weave the more they are likely to snap on the edges so try to get wider weaves if you decide to buy.

I brought my rattan furniture 12 years ago, Its been in British winters and Dubai summers and still looks like new. If you buy the small weave rattan they tend to break at the corners or edges. I would get the bigger weave and the best quality you can afford. I wouldnt have any other garden furniture now.

Daza. Thanks for your post. Glad, very glad to hear things aren't like this on ground. Stix thanks too. I believe i am much better placed now. Hope we all make the right decisions. The criteria for selecting a school in the UAE is the same as selecting one in the UK. I would be looking at results in the core subjects (maths, English and science) IGCSE, IB and A levels I would be looking at the work books of the years your child is going into, how do they compare back home and how do they compare to the 3 schools you mentioned? Established schools that have been here years are very hard to get into. Its the same in the UK, all the good schools are full, with wait lists. I always worry when there is a mass Exodus as parents generally dont uproot happy children.

British house prices pushed ahead of those in other major economies towards the end of last year, official figures showed yesterday. While cheap money combined with growth in pay and rising employment has conspired to spark a housing market recovery in some countries, other parts of the EU are still falling behind. Only nations like Ireland and Sweden saw similar booms, as the other big economies saw the market stagnate or even fall in the third quarter. UK house prices rose by 11.7 per cent on the year and four per cent on the quarter.
