Hi all, I wanted to enrol my son into DESS commencing FS2 in September next year...apparantly it's already full because of their new nursery...they said that there are only 37 places for FS1 and FS2 each year...does anyone know more or know if thats correct as it wasn't the case when I checked last year...if I can't get him into DESS I would be open to recommendations of other British Curriculum Schools in and around the Mirdiff area to secure a place at least for next year...thank you all x I didnt know dess has a new nursery Do u know its name? Are u sure of this? sorry for not being able to help They didnt have FS1 earlier but from 2014 they have added FS1 Hi Mich - Heard good reviews about Gems royal dubai...worth checking it

Ramadan is coming up so I don't think they will sing Happy Birthday for you. On the other note, I was just wondering whether Entertainer book is worth it. I always find great deals on Groupon/Cobone and my experience so far has been pretty good with them. I usually buy food related deals....sometimes I go for mani-pedi deals. So considering those two categories, do you think it's worth buying? Anyway, if you are interested, here is one Lebanese iftar buffet starting at AED 114 for two people (i.e AED 57/person) at Dubai Mall: goo.gl/nrDkJf Thank you for ur reply.I have tried few groupon deals for salon and food.food deals were ok but i was not happy with salon deals.I think entertainer is much better and have more options to choose and u may cover the book once u used 3-5 vouchers.thank u I have seen an offer for dinner buffet at Lotus Marina Hotel for AED 49 somewhere....would post it once I find it. Do let us know what kind of cuisines you are interested in so that we could assist you better :)hank you for ur reply.I have tried few groupon deals for salon and food.food deals were ok but i was not happy with salon deals.I think entertainer is much better and have more options to choose and u may cover the book once u used 3-5 vouchers.thank u

Don't know about other restaurants, but the Grand Grill don't sing Happy Birthday during Ramadan. Also check with wherever you go that they are accepting Entertainer vouchers during the Holy month. Thanks Amelia.Do u have any experience with kitchen 6 or beachcombers ,market place grandhyatt, for buffets with kids?Im not sure which to select

Leena125 Just to add Ramadan starts tomorrow (Sun) most restaurants will be closed until at least 6:30 or later depending on the timing of sunset. I only add this as when my children were under 6 waiting that late for dinner wasn't easy. If your children are accustom to eating later, ignore me :-) EnjoyThanks yes they usually sleep at 7.30 when there are schools but since school holidays they can stay little long upwhen we are out

I would recommend Tribes in MOE. It's fun to be there esp for a Bday celebration since the whole fleet of waiters sing along with beats n stuff to wish you Happy Birthday in a truly African way. Lovely ambiance, with or without kids, and great food. Thank u ASH..We have been there few times,so looking for a different place.yes u r right..its a nice place though

Though I am not indian I am a convert to Ayurveda. It uses natural ingredients and they really work. I have never taken care of my skin, lived in hot\sunny countries and never used sun screen.... I had a LOT of sun\age spots and wrinkles because of it. a freind of mine after seeing me after many years was shocked how bad my skin had become. At that time I was at an Ayurveda Dr. for my hair fall and so I asked what I should do. He gave me a cream that I should use at night. It just has oils of safron, camphor, and one more thing (sorry cant remember) ....anyway, its been two weeks and I have to say I am amazed. My age spots are down by 60%, pores are much smaller and skin is glowing..... I love the stuff.....and it only costs 23 AED. Hi Do u know where can i buy it ..does it help in build the skin?

I would think the reason the Retin A products are banned here is because they are known to be linked to cancer where sun exposure is involved. Excellent point! Retin A and other retinoids should only be used at night. I prefer to use a physical only sunscreen that doesn't contain other weird stuff that might break down, r react with other skin products. I also do not use BHA or AHA exfoliants in the morning as the acidity of them does not 'mix' well with the use of antioxidant serums .very strange here how promotion ladies are annoying . I hate the staff in Boots here and other pharmacies are also really bad. I won't even go in to some shops any more You can try differin in lieu of retin A. It's 24 aed. Otherwise I suggest you go on Beautypedia and look and see which creams contain retinol and are not overpriced. Proactive clarifying night cream is marketed for acne but it contains retinol and BHAs, which are both effective on wrinkles Leena125 - if you had no improvement on your scar after laser treatments than you can try something called "subcision" This is to physically break down the bands of scar tissue that are causing the depression. Also, which laser treatment did you have? The best for scars are Scaar Fx, Fraxel Repair, Deep Fx Hi celticcavegirl - i think i have gone to the wrong place to get done the laser treatment.it was the big mistake i did by wasting 9000aed plus .it was kaya clinic and they have given me a package for laser with some peeling but to be honest after spending this much of money i havent seen any results and my scars are same.its such a horrible place. After that I havent try any other place as i just dont want to waste any more money. So im waiting for some recomendation.i think was fraxel they did.

Dear Parents.I appreciate reviews from DESS parents.we have done a school tour last week.We have started the tour around 9.20 from grade 1 classes. They have open classes for kg2 to grade 2 and i felt the classrooms are very very noisy and some were sitting on the carpeted floor doing some activities and some were on their desks.Im not sure is it same for the whole day but from year 3 onwards its more quite and all students were in class rooms.I know it has a great reputaion but can i how do u feel ..are they more focus on studies or they learn through play. Its actually more different to my kids current school

My daughter will be joinning DESS in september for grade 2.This is the same feeling i have and im worried how she will settle there.i have read few posts here ,few parents had the same concern when they start new at DESS.We are Asians.I pray she will settle there soon.My daughter is little shy and get some time to move with others but she has lots of friends in her current school and very happy but thinking about her future we took this decision to change her from her current school.I hope i have made the correct decision. I think 3 months is too little as Dubai is new to her.Give her little time.she will find new friends and speak up with her teacher.m Hope she will adjust there soon edited by Leena125 on 08/05/2014

My daughter joined in january and and my son will transfer to DESS in September. I am delighted with the school academically and socially. Homework has a great clear structure. You need to listen to your child read 15 mins a night and sign a diary to say so, they have mental maths and literacy homework once a week, a times table test once a week, spelling homework once a week and a spelling test. There is additionally the odd extra project, Arabic etc. Maybe my only disappointment, and this hasn't just been my own experience is that it appears new kids tend to stick together and existing pupil's have the more established friendship groups, bit odd in such a transient place like Dubai but that was quite different from my children's other school in Dubai. But saying that my daughter has made friends and is happy. What year is your daughter joining? Thank you for your reply. My daughter will join year 2 in september

After transferring my daughter to DESS last September I would , on our experience say do it ! . The first few weeks she was a bit worried and asked to go back to her old school but I can honestly say that she is a much happier child and is loving school. In her words last week , this school is the best ! My daughter is Asian too and I have not noticed any issues , DESS like all other schools in dubai is multi cultural Thank you PlainJane. The transitions are going to be always little difficult.I hope she will settle soon. She is a little shy girl and take little more time to move with others. How do u find the home work routing.Do they have home work daily basis?

Hi Leena. . I am not a dess parent...I had the same reservations about dess that you currently do. my only advise to you is take a school tour before you take up a place there. Yes it is a brilliant school..however not a fit for us. Best of luck with your decision. Thank u .Yes we are planning to take a tour.

If you mean an assessment for year 2, I would imagine that any school would look at skills in reading, writing and maths. So maybe a reading comprehension and a maths paper. Hi yes its for year 2.Thank u so much

My daughter just started there this month and aware very happy. My son is also on the waiting list. You stay on the list after having paid your fee and every November you must put in writing a request to remain on the waiting list. I would recommend keeping in regular contact with the school regarding the places you need. Once you get one child in your other child will become more of a priority to find a place. It is a fab school. Thank you Elmpark..May i know which grade your daughter is in and how long you were in the waiting list to get in to her to the school.I really hope i will get a chance for my daughter for grade 2 this year.Im planning to enter her to waiting list next week and my son too for KG2 but i can register him only in september for 2015 waiting list. And one more thing do they give more preference to westerners as we are none westerners ..thanks

Hi For tutorial, the best are 61 Keys, Portable Keyboards from Yamaha, I wouldn't recommend a used one unless its from a trusted source, coz just one key doesn't play, it wouldn't be of any use. Yamaha PSR E243, an entry model, would be a good choice and price would be around 550-650 AED, check out in sharaf dgs' or Lulus'..you need a better one if the lil one is above 12 years old.. I was thinking about yamaha digital piano upright one which cost around 7k at virgin store. My daughter is 6 years old.I will check the key boards as well
