Hi I did this in Dubai some years ago. I got job first so was sponsored by my company and in turn sponsored my children and first HH. DH got a job later and we needed more assistance so he hired a nanny on his visa. I think if you explain your situation they will accommodate you. good luck.

I think you have to pursue the complaint. My worst experience was similar to MP's. I lived at the Ranches when it was still a new development 6 years ago and most cabs didnt want to 'drive so far' LOL! Got a cab from Deira, regular fare was about aed 70 odd. Cabbie decided to take me round back where it was (then) derelict and the road ran out too. Fare came to AED 125. I had asked before I got in cab if he knew where to go and he said he did. I was fuming by the end and the journey was an extra 30 mins on top of norm too. Assuming they don't earn very much (and goodness knows what training they get before becoming 'qualified') I decided I would dock him AED 5 for the major inconvenience without paining him too much. I had warned him that I would complain but feeling pity accepted that here (+ ONLY HERE!) even cabbies can get lost and was prepared to let it slide. He however decided that a lone female in back of his cab was an easy target and became verbally abusive did some hand gesturing and to add insult to injury said it was my fault. That decided it for me. I called RTA and complained with his details; cab no.,registration and the journey destination and start end times. (receipts weren't standard then, it used to be a scribble on some paper without any of the driver details). The operator was very understanding. It was followed up by them and I was called back after a few hours to say he apologised for his behaviour but he would be docked 3 days pay and would go on some training before he could resume his duty again. I asked for them to not dock his pay but that he definitely needed to learn some manners and not pick up people claiming to know where to take them when he clearly didn't. The decision was final. I think he may well have rued taking an AED 5 hit rather than losing 3 days wages but he made his choice. Please complain, nothing changes unless you do when these things happen. If you want better service for yourself and others not to be taken advantage of in the same way make some noise with the right people. Good luck.

Did you have surgery with Dr B. I'm interested in your feedback as I took my DS to him a few months ago and he could not have been more disinterested or flippant in the way he dealt with us. He sat at his desk typing on keyboard, hardly acknowledged our entrance to the room, continued to type. Tried to explain the history to him and he still kept looking at keyboard. He muttered no more than three words to us and ended the consultation without any interaction at all, he took no notes. The whole appointment lasted 3 minutes and ended with no diagnosis, no examination, no suggestion of how to relieve the pain or any idea of what the condition is. Came out feeling it was a complete waste of time (not to mention dhs 500) and extremely rude and careless. Have you actually been a patient under his care? Hi Di, yes I am a patient of his and have been for the past year. Your experience is at complete odds with the care that I have received when I go for a consultation. The reason I rate him is that when I went to see him for the first time I did so and let the MRI do the speaking. I was extremely upset as I had been to 3 previous neuro surgeons and each had told me that I needed an emergency operation. I have previously had 2 discectomies. Each of the other surgeons was excited to have me on their operating table asap. What Dr Bini did was take a completely different approach. He asked me describe the bad times and how I was holding up currently. I found him attentive and he made my options clear to me and advised his opinion. We went through the long and short of why multiple discectomies were not a good solution for me or in general (though surgeon's are very happy to recommend them). I got a short history on why his considered opinion had changed over the years of his practising with age and experience. This consultation lasted 90 mins. I have been to see him several times since and each consultation has been at least an hour. I was operated on at Neuro by Dr Msaddi. He is a good surgeon but extremely difficult to get hold of. Booking appointments with him you need to know when you will need him about 3 months in advance. I was assigned for follow ups with his protege att he time. I swear this guy had a scalpel in his eyes every time I visited! Needless to say it was time for second opinions...

so before I disappear back into the ether, just wanted to say I am taking EP, Magnesium and Vit B and feel fab. dark thoughts way behind me. :) Thanks you so much for all of your suggestions. once you are in the thick of things nothing seems to make much sense. really needed guidance and something tried and tested. so glad I came on here! one last question - do you continue to take the suppements that work for you or just before the usual symptons appear?

Ahh poor you... DH brought me some EP for his own sanity. It kicked in pretty much within a few hours. thats really good to hear. I had an interesting conversation with DH yesterday which involved lots of competing for the 'I had the worst day' crown. hate feeling sorry for myself so indulgent and wasteful! -oops dont know how to include quotes - edited by Leo on 18/12/2012

I'm really sorry to be such a drag. I am normally a very positive person to be around. I have had this account for over 6 years. I am not really a poster. every now and again I come to read great advice for something I'm looking for or info I need. occasionally just to see 'whats going on' in the EW world. LOL It is comforting to know that this community exists for people like me. Its therapeutic to just write it sometimes. So ladies, a big thank you for just listening and the advice. x

Thank you for the replies. I feel so bad just now. I really have nothing nice to say to anyone just now. yuck!! re the call, I believe it was the CC company - I don't bank with them but this seems to be their usual annoying form of verification (minus the passport question). Usually I take it well... I try to be careful with these kind of calls but after a while you recognise the banks calling numbers. like the idea of the verification though when unsure. Thank you Genius, I will try evening primrose and I am sure I have some vit B in the house. I'm going to start taking both today. does EP take a while to be effective or do you get results immediately? thankfully there is no homework this week. with my current short fuse I don't think I could be a very responsible person even with my angels today. want to run and hide...

They normally tell you to take it to the EIDA main office in Barsha. We had hubby's id card done at Marina's Just in Time branch and they spelled his name wrong on the card. We were told once issued, any changes need to go through the main office. HTH. Dont think it cost anything.

Jayjay, Could you please let me know where you got them from as I am looking for a couple of colours but can't find them. Used to be able to get from Le Marche but they haven't had the colours I need for a few weeks now. Thanks in advance.

I agree with sprinkler. My son went through a very traumatic few weeks with night tremors and at odd times during the day he would look at me and be petrified!

we didn't get it back first time as LL came up with all sorts of c**p to keep it. The real reason which he later confided to DH was that he was still sore that we took him to the rent committee (we did this only after he would not respond to our requests for renewing tenancy for another year). Anyway he won - we were duped by his agent who promised we could stay for 5 years in the property if we wished as we fit the tenant profile the LL was looking for. The magic clause of 'for one year only' was explained by said agent as a 'regular' contract. What did we know - we had been in the country for 2 weeks! We lost a lot more than the aed 15K deposit that time despite the property being spotless, holes filled, all downstairs painted, snags rectified (we were first tenants in new property). Didn't mean a thing to him. Were quite scared 2nd time round but have to say 2nd and 3rd LL were actually very good, we got them to do inspections early as we moved out before the contract expiry and received not only deposits back in full and early but thanks for looking after their properties so well. After the nasty first experience it was very touching to have your efforts appreciated!

Thank you for those suggestions ladies. Will defo investigate SH Mo centre more carefully, looks interesting. Monatek, no worries a few of us are contemplating what's available and whether really worthwhile to attend so shall keep you posted if anything comes of it. Anyone else got any ideas of a specific course or place that they found invaluable for cultural awareness? I feel you learn and retain so much more when info you are there with other people. After living mostly like a hermit, am looking forward to immersing myself in the culture and capturing the essence of Arabia!

That's bad timing. I just gave away a techno classic with a couple of covers, footmuff extra inserts and a whole lot of other baby stuff to take my junk. It wasn't junk at all, in excellent nick as we came here soon after getting it and not really used much for the little guy as there are not many places you can use a stroller here except malls. We are not the selling kind (just don't have those skills) so gave it away so someone who needs it could make use of it. Sorry no help to you but hopefully there is someone else out there who no longer needs theirs.

Thanks for the kind offer Khatoon. Unfortunately the colour scheme will not work in our home. This is why it was all the more disappointing to have finally found something that seemed ideal and then to be let down by a greedy salesman.

Just an update on Saje Joseph - we found him to be very inflexible and inconsistent in our experience. He came with some samples, took measurments and said he would get back to us with a quote after having told us what the material cost were. 2 days later we are gobsmacked to discover that the price of material has now increased by almost 20% (almost overnight) and there is nothing he can do about it. We weren't happy and asked him to 'work with us'. We did not hear back from him for a couple of weeks then we went on a break, subsequently he said he took a short hol (reason he gave for not getting back to me during that period). We resumed discussions again 6 weeks after original conversation. He came to the house repeating he wouldn't budge on price. Ok we think (we really need curtains) we told him we will go with your quote. Here's icing on cake - he tells us the price has gone up again by AED 5pm. I ask for new quote and from this we see he has applied it not just to material but labour and everything else it seems - how else can it be AED 2,500 dearer than previously? Last I checked we didn't live in a palace and this is only for 4 areas including 2 small windows in kitchen and 4 are roman blinds and 3 full length curtains? Can anyone explain the math?
