I just wanted to let you know that a lot of residents, including us, in JVC villas area have been finding red back spiders in our gardens... so just keep an eye out for them! They have really messy webs- not like a normal spider web- more like a cobweb... we've had our area sprayed so hopefully we've got rid of our ones... going to be wearing gloves when gardening though!

Sounds well dodgy.... They shouldn't be asking you to pay for any of the things you've mentioned.... Google the name of hospital plus "job offer scam" and see what comes up.... Don't pay anything... You could always say sorry can't afford can the fees be deducted from my salary over a period of time and see what their response is to that? Most companies would say yes and if they make up some random excuse you know it's not legit.... Take care! edited by Licorice on 10/04/2015

How exciting! Got a few questions.... You can choose :) 1. What's he working on at the moment... Any new TV show or movie plans? 2. What's been the highlight of his career to him? 3. Star Wars v Star Trek? Which does he thinks wins? :) is he going to see the new movie? 4. Of all the characters he's played... Who is his personal favourite and why? 5. Does he have any memorabilia from the roles he's played... Are they displayed proudly? What's his favourite one? 6. What does he think of Dubai and is it first time here? Hope they're ok!

Hi bingo 12 Yes he owns the whole section of building we in. edited by Licorice on 09/10/2014 But was that because he bought multiple properties and so is just a LL and not the developer or managing agent to whom service charges are paid? Seems he has been paying the service charges as is normal for LL and not that he omitted to charge you as the developer or.managing agent for 3 years and surely he cannot claim it is for government or municipal charges as they don't get the money.. Yes you are right... He is not the developer... He's the LL he just happens to own a section of the development.

Yeah you right... Am calming down a bit now... What a horrid shock... Makes you lose faith... We really good tenants... Always pay on time, look after the flat... Me and my hubby are both rule followers so bless him he's freaking out too... He's just landed now... Can't wait for him to get home! Don't want to be stressing all weekend... Hard coz we can't do anything till Sunday boooo! Think it's because the market rates are really high now for these flats but a lot of long term tenants here... They'll be losing money and thought this was a smart way to make it up. I feel so unsettled now and that we won't be in here after next year as this will be the start of it... Such a shame! Anyhow what to do?

Yes the letter says we have paid the following services charges for the last 3 years and now you owe us! Was never mentioned at time we first took the apartment and is not in lease... They are quoting a clause that is in lease saying we are responsible for governmental and municipal fees e.g housing fee, Emicool So they are trying to lump service charges under that clause... But service charges are from the developer and do fall under governmental of municipality fees right? It's not like we've not been in contact for 3 years with them... We've been in contact every year for rent renewal.... Not a mention if service fees ever. We are totally fine with going forward thing from the next renewal if the ll wants to pass service fees onto tenants... We'd either suck it up or move but this is out the blue and back dated! What a mess... Hubby is on plane back from Doha so thanks for advising me... Been here for 13 years and nothing like this has ever happened before... Been lucky I guess but feeling sick now!

Ah thanks for the quick replies... Head is spinning! It says on contract we are responsible for government and municipality fees... So that doesn't include service charges does it cos they are set by the developer? Plus ok if it's a new thing... We only re-signed our lease 4 months ago... If one year was added on then not too bad and we could have made a decision but to send now and backdate it 3 years... It's over 80,000 Dhs and 7 days to pay! What the...? Or if they said from next contract you will be paying... Fine. But this.... Eeeks! I've never even used the pool! (Trying to remain positive and have a sense of humour before I have to sell the family jewels and end up on the street!) Am worried cos the landlord is a lawyer... Maybe they just trying it on... Do you think i should speak to my neighbours... The block is all owned by the same person? Want to cry! edited by Licorice on 09/10/2014

Can anyone help... We've just had a letter from our landlord saying we have to pay an extremely large amount of services charges on our apartment within 7 days or we are going to be taken to court and evicted! We've never been asked to pay this before and aren't these charges to paid by the landlord unless stated in the contract? In a total panic! Please help!

Wow thanks for the great advice everyone! Had seen lots of the ads with "title deeds" mentioned so good to know that's something necessary. I agree as well- we'll be happy to make some rental income if we can- but we can cover the cost without it- that would be an added bonus- plus we would holiday there a few times a year and potentially retire there in the future. We are visiting next week for a reccie to the Paphos area and will do more investigation- we were quite surprised you can get a 3 bed for around 120,000 GBP! We've no chance of buying here and was going to take ages to save up deposit for a UK property. Does anyone know- is the Ikea there quite big? Would we be able to fully furnish somewhere from it? Can only find the site in Greek. This is all v exciting :)

Hi! We're looking to buy a holiday home- flat or a villa- in Cyprus as they seem really cheap, flights from here are cheaper than to UK and it's closer for a holiday. Has anyone got any experience of going through the whole process- any tips or pitfalls to watch out for? It's just for me and my DH, we'd rent it out as a holiday property and use it ourselves and maybe when we get old and wrinkled have it as a part time home as well :) Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi giggle57, Oh there's nothing worse than the hot do's! I use Dior radiant base under my foundation or powder... it's not oily or slick like a moisturiser and is quite matt then I use the Diorskin Forever Compact which is a powder foundation so not oily either- and keep it on hand to do touch ups during the day. I just thank goodness we have AC out here... can crank it up when the sweats break out! Am sure others will have some great advice too :)

I had chicken pox twice as a child which is quite unusual and was really sick with it. Have had shingles 3 times as an adult...two of the times brought on by being in contact with kids that had chicken pox... it wipes me out for a month or longer. So maybe the nursery is not just trying to protect the other kids but also the adults who go/work there too... totally understand it must be frustrating for you though but guess it's just one of those things you'll have to get through. Hope your LO feels better soon!

As a resident of Motor City it's really annoying when that lane is blocked by parked cars.... there's quite a lot of parking really- the underground car park has 2 levels for Spinneys parking, there's the car park round the back and there's also proper parking spaces on the roads both sides and there are pedestrian crossings controlled by traffic lights. Guess it looks like it's ok to park there if others are there already and you don't realise but I see the police nearly every day ticketing all the cars there... must be making a fortune.

I'm not a mum but my nephew was doing this he's 4.... So me being a nice auntie bought him a Phillips living colour light that has hundreds of colours and lights up a wall... And voila he's been ok ever since apparently... So a simple night light or something like this might help.... You never know :)

I get leg pain if I walk for long in normal flip flops... I've tried Birkenstocks and Fit Flops and they are both great! Fit Flops saved me when I was in New York one year! I've currently got some croc flip flops and they are great too...plus they are non slip too! Try the more slim line Birkenstock flip flops and have pretty nails done and be glad you are comfy :) You get quite pretty fit flops with sequins or jewels on if you want something a bit prettier. Comfort over fashion works at the end of the day!

Glad it's not just us then! We've ordered twice and live in MC- first time when they'd just opened- 2 hours to come- same thing when we rang- 5 mins, 5 mins! When it arrived food was so so- think their indian better than chinese. Thought, oh well, it was their opening week then must have got their act together by now- ordered again this week- 1 hour to come and food was very bland, oily spring rolls. Such a shame- hope they get this branch up to the standard of their other ones.

Hi there! I'm a scrap booker :) There are 2 specialist scrapbooking shops here- Paper Lane in Jumeirah and Creative Hands in the Green Community and Creative Minds on Um Sequiem Street also sells scrapbooking supplies. They are quite pricey here though so I order bulk stuff from UK and USA to save money and trawl Dragon Mart and Daiso too. It would be good to have another shop- maybe in Motor City/ Arabian Ranches area- somewhere more in the middle and with cheaper prices and more stock from Tim Holtz, Graphic 45 and some other well known brands... I went to Singapore recently and they had amazing scrap book supply shops with loads of brands I'd not seen before. Hope that helps you a bit!

It worked for me and I gave up for about a year after taking it for 3 months then went down the slippy slope again. It does make your stomach feel weird... I found taking it with food was the only way to stop this- it's terrible if you take it on an empty stomach... try that and see if that helps... reminds me I must start again!! Make sure you are taking the starter pack first as it's a smaller dose to start off with that builds up to the higher dose. Good luck!

Doesn't this all stem from certain companies antiquated policies? Basically in "the olden days" it was the men that came out here to work and brought their families with them... Then if married women started working for a different company they knew that the women were covered by the husband's benefits and therefore didn't give the family unit double benefits? If women were the main breadwinner which was unusual way back when... with most companies if they could prove this to the company they would get the family benefits. Single women got them anyway. There's nothing in the labour law about these extra benefits... It's a company's policy that should be being questioned not the laws of country we are in. If as a woman you are the main breadwinner you should negotiate this with your company before you accept a job role. It's simply that it was tradition in the past that the man got the benefits from his company. So many companies don't give annual flights etc anymore anyway. Just another slant on this.
