I paid about 4300 i think it was for a year and i wish i hadn't taken the contract actually. I use motor city branch and its always so busy. I tend to just use the treadmill now and do my own weights at home because the weight machines are always packed & its mostly men so i don't feel comfortable being around all of them. If there was a ladies only section it would be so much better. I tried to cancel my contract and its non-refundable so once you join that's it. You're stuck for a year.

Funny to read this today as I am currently going through the same situation. I have a wedding booked/paid for in Thailand however just found out yesterday a letter we need from the Embassy will take 3 months. And our wedding is in less than 60 days. so i started searching yesterday for alternative places we could fly to be legally married and then just have a blessing in Thailand. I also came across Seychelles. And i emailed this company, the guy Rod who replied was very helpful/quick in giving me all the info i needed. I suggest to email him. From what he has told me, the process is very simple. You just send them passport copy/birth certificate and they handle the rest. You will need to stay in Seychelles a min. of 3 nights. And he said they will get all the documents legalized so its valid world wide. Not sure if there is anything further to be done with them once you return to Dubai. I haven't go that far yet! But i guess that can be sorted out later. http://www.wedding-in-seychelles.com/required-documents-for-civil-wedding/

Hi Lilly, First of all Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials :-) I can't help on the Thailand side, but I got married here in Dubai last year, both myself and hubby are British. As a Brit, our embassy does not perform weddings and the only legal way to marry in the UAE as a Brit non-Muslim is to do this in Church. There are a number of Christian denomination churches in Dubai, we chose Christ Church Jebel Ali. The fees to do this were: Affidavits from British Embassy - AED 800 for two (I think, or something like that). Church fees - AED 2,750 (an additional AED 500 on top of this if you choose a Friday). Marriage Certificate attestation - AED 900 I don't know if the rules are different for other nationalities, it could be different for South Africans and the process may be cheaper if their embassy do carry out weddings, but from the Brit side, that's how you can do it here. HTH and Good Luck. Thank you that's really helpful!

i was mortified with embarrassment that when they had the royal navy band playing, to kick off the final - not only was it not audible (it wasn't connected to the sound system for whatever technical reason) they didn't even have it on the big screen until a few minutes in. so neither national anthem was audible - and there was even some 'duff duff' music continuing in the background. like i said, the organisers definitely need to re-look at it (i'm talking saturday btw, wasn't there Friday). numbers have been confirmed as down - so hopefully lesson learnt. strange i really thought it felt fuller. Maybe everyone was just cramped into the shaded bit cause it was so hot and so it felt a lot fuller.

This year was my 7th year going in a row and i found it to be the busiest I've seen it. We went friday and battled to find a space for our group when we got there at 12 and the toilet queues were crazy bit later on. normally when we get there, there's loads of space to sit I noticed they took away the loo's that used to be on the one side of the stadium so it made the other toilets a lot busier. And by 6pm a lot of them had no running water the stands were definitely busier than previous years. Had to pretty much climb over people to get out We took a careem home but noticed the normal taxi queue was a mile long. and other people i spoke to who arrived later in the afternoon said they stood in long queues just trying to get into the stadium still had a good time though and will be back again next year! true though that they have actually added the strongbow bar at the back and i saw another Heineken bar on the other side so people were probably more spread out on the actual grounds around the stadium edited by lillyuae on 08/12/2014

My dentist is a good one. He is french. Let me know if you are interested. The other day, they were mentioning on Radio 2, morning, a cabinet with an amazing view on Dubai + funky music and disco ball ! And the presenter said they were good too.. I would love to go there at least once in my life (I hate going to the dentist...). Maybe someone knows who it is, I didn't catch the name ;-( Could be German dental center in JLT or 800 tooth as i think its known???? I've never been but i think i recall hearing something about it being all funky & different.. might be wrong though. My fiance went there recently for root canal and said the dentist was very good.

Still pennies to take as opposed to their cost in England. Does not mean it is not noticeable that the price will increase. If service quality did it would be good. If a booked taxi arrived it would be fantastic too. Anyone tried Uber? Never tried Uber as I heard bad reports about them. We always use Careem if we need to go out as the taxi's can never even find us in JVT ;) edited by Geordie expat on 25/11/2014 We also use careem now. Much more reliable & at least they all know where they are going. Plus I don't feel safe in Dubai taxi anymore. The amount of times I've been in one and had the driver nearly falling asleep at the wheel.

I'm in the middle of planning my wedding in Thailand and we went and looked at all the venues before deciding on one. However, the villas we looked at all looked exactly how they did on the websites - all amazing. But its still nice to go and have a look yourself. :)

Healthbay Polyclinic on Al Wasl Rd is really good. Dr Graham Smylie is supposed to be very good (I haven't seen him yet myself). His wife also works for the clinic who i saw for years, Dr. Carol Smylie but she's based at the mirdif branch. But worth the trek if you want a good British family doctor. My insurance company Saico also recommended Mediclinic's although never tried them myself. I guess look at the websites and see which doctors they have & read their profiles before calling. That's what I normally do. Dr. Totten at Medicentre in Motor City is an excellent Dentist (also British) I'm not sure about showing ID. They do normally ask for Emirates ID but i think that's when you are giving them Insurance cards. My fiance just had root canal done yesterday and he's in process of renewing his visa & didn't have any issues. If you have a UK drivers license or some form of ID it might be enough.

Its been terrible last few weeks. And what makes it worse is all the annoying people who try to push in at the front of a queue and make it take even longer - and some causing accidents in the process, which is what i saw last week due to someone trying to push in. Drove straight into the side of someone! Hope she learnt her lesson :-D

I live in sports city right next to Victory heights and i work in Media City and i take Umm Suqeim road every morning and takes me around 15 mins to get to work. Hessa street is always a nightmare, best to avoid! I'm not sure how they are in the afternoon as i always go through tecom and then take the road that passes through back of springs... cant remember the name of it. That takes me 10mins to get home.

Free chiller means that there is district cooling (a/c) and it is included in the price of your rent (as the owner will pay this as part of the maintenance fee). Central a/c means the same thing. . Are you sure? I read 'central a/c' as meaning it is 'normal' a/c, not either wall or 'split' (not quite sure what split means - wall is the box in the wall, not as effective. Chiller free basically means the A/C in your apartment is its own unit and not central cooling with the whole building. So you pay for it in your DEWA bill. Not with Emicool or palm district cooling etc. District cooling is more expensive because you also pay a monthly service fee plus consumption charges. i used to live in JLT & Motor City where it was Emicool/palm district cooling and I'm now living in sports city where its paid through DEWA. And i can say i prefer the A/C in sports city.

ok when I travelled my new visa hadn't been started yet. So I was travelling out on a cancelled visa & returned as a tourist (British passport) There was a lady that i worked with who had 2 passports and she was renewing her visa and she exited the country on her e-gate and returned on her other passport and it caused a problem. I don't think they paid again but it did delay the process of the visa by 2 weeks that she was out of the country

i did that recently. My visa was cancelled by my old company on 10 May and I travelled to SA on 12 May and no one batted an eye lid. I was terrified I was going to be stopped. And i have loans and credit cards too & was getting messages from the bank (as my visa was going to expire on 23 May anyway - i just cancelled it few days early as I resigned from my job) I did carry my new employment contract with me just in case but no one asked for anything.

I just moved from JLT last week and there were no issues at all with traffic, very quick in and out. I only moved as the rent had sky rocketed. I can advise you the following buildings to avoid.... Lakepoint (I lived there, badly maintained & smelly passages), Dubai Gate 1 (had friends who lived there who said its terrible), Lake City (i've read bad reviews online) and Icon 1 and 11 seem to get mixed reviews, although I did look at an apartment in Icon 1 and it seemed a whole lot better than Lakepoint. If it had been a lower floor i may have considered it. And I've heard also Global Lake View is bad although I've never been & don't know anyone who has lived there.

We have the same problem and we are in JLT. I think its the plumbing in Dubai in general. The smell we get reminds me of that smell when the water empties out of the toilet and its been like that for a while if you've been out all day or on holiday and you get that horrible drain smell throughout the house. But whenever we get that smell the water hasn't drained out of the loo. So I have no idea where it comes from.

You could try sell it to somewhere like 4x4 motors. Although you probably wont get the price you are asking for. But it would be more hassle free if in a hurry. I sold a car to them earlier this year and it was a pretty quick process but the price they gave me was lower than I was asking on Dubizzle. And when I went back a few weeks later there was my car being sold for a ridiculously high price. I guess they do that cause they know people will haggle the price down.

Also don't deal with a company called Fellowship Properties. I'm not sure if they are even open still or if they've done a runner now but we rented an apartment in JLT through them in October last year. Paid our rent to them in 1 cheque and they were paying the landlord in 4 cheques. He got the first 2 cheques ok and the 3rd one bounced about 2 weeks ago. He went to them to complain, so they gave him another cheque which also bounced a few days ago. I think they were stalling for time by giving him another cheque so he wouldn't go straight to the police. My landlord also informed me he is not the only one this has happened to with this company. And also they used to be on Rera, but because of a lot of complaints their license hasn't been renewed with them again this year. Luckily I have a nice landlord and he hasn't made me pay the outstanding rent again! But I can wave goodbye to my deposit I gave to them!

July will be middle of winter in SA so its not really peak season but i think the fares don't really change throughout the whole year anyway. Unless its xmas, easter time etc. Then they are crazy expensive It is a popular time of the year as everyone travelling home (South Africans) for the school holidays and also the European's who travel during their summer! A lot of people fly UK - DXB - CT or JHB Just a heads up really aaah i guess so i forgot about the schools!!!! You can see i dont have kids :-)

If you book through SAA its normally cheaper than Emirates fares, but you still fly on an Emirates flight as its code share. But i havent checked that option for a long time so not sure if they've increased their prices since. Im travelling next friday for a short 5 day holiday. And just wondered if any one knows if i'll face any issues when exiting. I still have a loan and my credit cards etc. Do you think they will give me any trouble when i leave? I will be on a return ticket and i can carry with me my new employment contract to prove i have a new job here when i return. Just dont want to be stopped and told i cant leave because i have debts here when all i'm doing is going for a holiday for 5 days thanks alot :-)

I'm not sure really, by the time i went down the fire was out & the fire department was there. I thought the fire started around 3am but maybe i was wrong. If they took so long to get there & the alarm didnt go off right away maybe it was earlier. So its really bad how it was handled. And i dont think the entire building evacuated as they probably also thought it was just a false alarm. There were alot of people outside but i really dont think it was the whole building. and this happened just 2 floors below mine! So quite scary actually! Luckily it wasnt a big fire although the building outside looks quite bad on the one side. At least 3 balconies are burnt quite badly. Which looks like 6th, 7th and 8th floor. edited by lillyuae on 01/04/2014

I just had one a couple of weeks ago and the doctor said she would write on the form that i was sufferring with pain and that was the reason for the smear otherwise medical wouldnt cover it if its just a check up. which i think is really bad actually. They should cover at least one a year to cut down the risks of cervical cancer!

Societe is really good for 80's and 90's music but it does get very crowded. I wouldnt say hot, but its very smokey inside. I really think they need to do something about the ventilation in there as it was really bad on friday night. Pity because its loads of fun in there! But woke up smelling like an old ash tray! I saw the doctor yesterday. She told me she doesnt think the risk with Yaz or Yasmin is very high, but said if i dont feel comfortable then it doesnt hurt to change. I must actually say that i never used to get Migraines with Aura and since using Yasmin i have suffered with this every few months. So could be linked to Yasmin. She wanted to presribe me something similar to microgynon, but they were out of stock (she called the pharmacy next door to check) So she told me to try Marvelon as she knows its been around years and is good For anyone using Cilest, its been discontinued. I saw some packs in boots yesterday and i asked the lady what was going on as another boots had told me they were not available anymore. So she checked with her manager and turns out someone new had put them on the shelf without realising & they actually shouldnt be sold anymore. No idea why???!! She just said "no you are right, these are bad, must not be sold" and she took them off the shelf!

As I said, go to a doctor. They can advise on the best pill for YOU! Just because people on here might recommend what they use, doesn't mean it will be effective or suitable for you. Everyone is different. I went through SIX different pills before I found one that suited me best. Please get professional advice, especially when it comes to things like this. Yeah will do that, just hope i can see one before the new cycle starts :-)
