And just to add...........i think I'd rather the sleazy driver than the idiot who tried to share his favourite music with me, whilst speeding along SZ Rd. When he took both hands off the wheel in order to wave in time with the music I nearly died of fright. Or the lunatic who missed the turning for Springs and maniacly drove my daughter and I round and round on Emirates Road for an hour in spite of our pleading to be let out at various gas stations..............or the poor man who picked me up for an early airport run and kept falling asleep at the wheel.

What is it at the moment or is it just me? Are taxi drivers becoming more and more sleazy? Three or four times over the past couple of weeks, I have been propositioned and/or grilled about my s*x life and whether my DH can 'manage'. I try and laugh it off but honestly, it is wearing a bit thin now. I get taxis because it is easier and cheaper but now, I am not so sure. No, I don't want to be your special friend, yes I am happy and yes, my DH can 'manage' thank you. I want to get in a cab, not have small talk (because that also invariably involves asking whether I have kids - no I don't and then we have the whole 'why not' rigmarole. Er, because I don't like or want them thanks) and get to work as quickly as possible. Sorry - never happened to me. You should not engage Taxi Drivers in conversation EVER. Tell them where you are going and that's it. You must be doing something that is clearly sending the wrong message and inviting this kind of conversation. I think you are being unfair..........and not a little unkind. When I was in Dubai and again in AD I had taxi drivers make inappropriate comments...............I think one has to take into account that some men working in UAE come from cultures where they are not used to being in the company of women and hence do not have the same sense of boundaries. And I am a grumpy old granny................and hardly likely to be sending out any come hither signals.

I'll be honest, I hadn't considered the weather implications when I made my original post. Phuket is very wet and humid at the moment. Samui is slightly better, but still not great. The forecast for Cyprus looks great, so I'd certainly consider that when making your final decision. The weather here in Cyprus is wonderful just now, the last of the rains have past and it's just glorious. And there are a lot of good deals around.j

You can bring it but you will have to pay tax on it. they charge on all electrical items. new or old. Having said that all electrical goods are expensive here so still cheaper to bring it. Sorry, i can't recall the tax rate, also it depends on the mood of the officials on the day.

I totally agree.we used DASA, as did our friends, to move to Cyprus, in both instances they were superb. The only damage was to a picture..................caused by my DH moving it (because he decided to interfere...........and then putting his boot through it.) Everything was packed so well, that in spite of a very tricky delivery venue (up in the mountains on winding roads, and the need to decant everything from the container to a small truck in order to access our village)...............not one thing arrived in less than perfect condition. <em>edited by Livelytrish on 19/05/2013</em>

I agree with A Rancher.........a purely physical cause would not limit itself to school hours. And I would add, young teenagers are not always totally forthcoming to their parents, no matter how close the relationship, about their anxieties. Is it possible she is being bullied?

Living in constant A/C indoors and polluted air outside plays havoc with the human body. Dubai 'flu and Dubai fatigue are too common to be dismissed as purely coincidental. In five years I never felt completely well..........except when I went out of country. Try taking a break somewhere else to see if it makes a difference.............probably cheaper and definitely more enjoyable than a battery of intolerance tests! <em>edited by Livelytrish on 14/05/2013</em>

I feel the same way.........here in Cyprus they are really popular with some of the local lowlifes (the guys in the huge pick ups who swagger around with the cammo gear and the guns) and in the summer it gets well over 30c and often into the 40's. It's some kind of a twisted status symbol.

I don't believe in the death penalty. I don't believe that any human has the right to take away another human being's life, regardless of the crime committed. That said, much as I hate to admit it, this woman did know the score, and much as I'd like to see her given a hefty sentence in lieu of the death penalty, she IS in a country which uses this code of punishment. :( I agree.

The law is the law, whether we agree with death penalty or not. She broke the law, she pays for it. These harsh penalties are in place to deter people from getting into drug smuggling. If you can't accept the punishment, don't do the crime, it's as simple as that. There are a great many countries which have laws which are barbaric and uncivilised. Just because "it is the law" does not make it right. As I said it is in place to deter people who think from committing the crime. Then sentence her to a long time in prison. No need for judicial murder. Why should they? If you can't see why not there is obviously nothing I can say to you. You could perhaps accept that there are people that disagree with you. I am not against capital punishment, they are in place for a reason. Rather than adapting the law to people who have nothing to do with the country, people visiting or living there should know that there are consequences for their actions. Drug smuggling is a crime where in certain countries you get harsh punishment. That should, as I have said before, STOP people from drug smuggling. How difficult can that be? Actually, Maroosh I do accept that "there are people who disagree" with me. I also recognise situations when there is no point in arguing.

Well said DR............I was beginning to get quite disturbed by the knee jerk string'em all up posts on here. Where is the compassion? The humanity? The decency?? what about personal responsibility? would you have sympathy for a man who dived into a shark feeding frenzy? Yes, but I couldn't blame the sharks. We as human beings with insight and morality should not take another human life. Two wrongs do not make a right. The death penalty is barbaric and uncivilised.

Should I go for mri? It might be wisest, Any good GP should point you in the right direction, I used to also see Beverly Palmer, an excellent osteopath at Infinity clinic for palliative sonar and massage.

I have a long standing problem with a herniated lumbar disc (of which sciatica is the most usual symptom). For various reasons surgery is not a realistic option, I have found that anti inflammatories and exercise as directed by a physio trained in Mackenzie technique has been the only effective management. This was recommended by a surgeon and to date has been the most helpful treatment.

It's probably another of those words/phrases from India - "good name", "do the needful", "parking backside" etc. Often words from one language change meaning/usage when adopted by another country/culture. Buttercup...............it does sound as though your DH is fairly useless in the "dealing with feeling" department............which is another reason why he is almost certainly terrified of young Madam. TBH, I have a degree of sympathy, the teenage girl/woman is most definitely the most deadly of the species (I have a birth daughter, a step daughter and two foster daughters..............I love all of them dearly......NOW but they were all in their different ways H@ll on wheels, and ironically my own child was the worst!!)...........and a divorced father is just a sitting target. Particularly if he is not the most emotionally adept of men. I don't really know what else to tell you, apart from be glad she is gone for now................though I'd be very surprised if that happy situation lasts for long. In the small weather window you will have before she flounces back in, you need to be good to yourself..........accept that for your DH the touch on the shoulder was the best he could do............. allow yourself time and space to mourn your sister, grief is a very isolating emotion but please try to take comfort in the fact that there are people......even just in cyberspace, who can understand and share your pain. Sending you a very big hug x

My first thought was..............well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree..............and the OP might be better off without the pair of them. But on reflection, whilst that may be the case, it's probably most likely that DH was resentful that she had left him alone with the ****** Troll from H@ll. He may very well be terrified of young madam's tantrums and probably had a bellyful whilst the only real adult in the house was away, and needs someone to blame for his own feelings. And much easier (and guilt free) to make the OP out to be Wicked Stepmother than to admit he doesn't want the poisonous brat around. She's twenty, she's not a child, immature and spoiled but not helpless. Let her go. And then decide if you want to keep the other "child". She is very sweet actually or seemed it, that is why I was so shocked at what I came back to. My husband adores her and I am pretty sure they loved me not being around. As you said though I do feel like I have been made out to be the wicked stepmother but I just can't understand why!! I know she wasn't happy with me because I wouldn't let her use one of the cars although it would have been illegal, although we paid for all her taxi fares to and from work until we got her on her dads visa, got her medical insurance and her uae licence. I have done everything I could think of to make her feel welcome. I really do not know why this has happened. It has made me feel so alone and my heart is breaking. I have had nothing back from my husband since I told him I am entitled to feel sorry for myself. His daughter has been back with someone to collect her stuff, she breezed in here and said hello as if nothing had happened. I didn't think I could feel any worse than I have the past month. I have been proved wrong. You actually have answered your own question there. She loved having Daddy to herself.............and would quite like to keep it that way. I wonder what her relationship with her birth mother is like..................

Sadly I can't help, but have you checked with Amazon to see if it's even possible to have it delivered to another address? I've had problems in the past with certain online vendors refusing to send products to addresses that aren't linked to the credit card I'm using. Unfortunately, if it's coming straight from Amazon, it can only be books, dvds and cds. It's not a 3rd party that I can contact and ask. Sorry, I think I misunderstood one of your earlier posts. Which website are you purchasing this from, Mothercare or Amazon? its available at mothercare in the uk and also on amazon. amazon's price is about 80 pounds cheaper. And they'll allow you to send it to any address in the UK? Amazon have always had that option...............people do send gifts you know.

I agree that sometimes it may seem odd but In this case I would be the one to lose out. Someone could just keep the stroller Lol but I guess I'd rather give people the benefit of the doubt because I would try to help someone if it was the other way around. And I'm ordering it directly from amazon to your door so its not like things are mixed in there which shouldn't be traveled with. Anyone can sell anything on Amazon, this does not make it legit. You really need to understand that this is one of the most common methods of transporting contraband. What a ridiculous comment to make. Last time I looked on Amazon there was a shocking lack of drugs, weapons. p@rn etc. What is the world coming to??

I honestly feel men are just not upto the job - they think of and first respond with violence in any situation. Women and children suffer the consequences of men being too trigger happy. I can confidently say MOST violent crime and criminal acts and war are those started, carried on and ended by men. I read a book many years ago, a novel set in Scotland against the background of WW1....a child drowns, he is the only son of a widow, who had been born prematurely.... an onlooker remarks that she had raised him against all the odds, that "she had cobbled together his every breath" ,,,and adds "G@d must be a man, no woman would tolerate such a waste" Amen to that.

Makes perfect sense to me. If I was due to travel back home and they tried to give me a Scottish note at the exchange I'd refuse to accept it, and I imagine most people would do the same. Therefore it has a lower value to the bank. But where do you call home? Assuming that you were asking the exchange for "pounds" ..............you would be returning to UK, in which case, any bank would exchange a Scottish note at face value. Which is exactly the same as a pound sterling!! <em>edited by Livelytrish on 17/04/2013</em>

Im very well thank God. Are you still in Cyprus? When I heard of the scary economic measures they are considering I thought of you . Im here in the land of the green with the wind & rain howling & crashing around me. Im off to Tipperary with my Dad at the weekend. I haven't been for such a long time my Dad was born there. Still here, it's all a bit bizarre really..............in all honesty the island has been struggling economically for the last four years or so.............closing down shops etc and stopped developments. But in small villages like ours, no real difference yet................. Selfishly....or wisely, depending on your moral viewpoint, I only keep the barest minimum of money onshore , so I'm no broker than I was before! But a lot of good honest ordinary people are being hurt by the mess, very very sad. Still, Ireland were in the same boat and are beginning to recover, no? Hope so, have a soft spot for the beautiful green place!! Have a great time with your dad.............Slainthe!!!

There is an AA group in Dubai.......they might well be able to help you. Addiction is addiction, the drug of choice is immaterial, the effects on the abuser's family and friends is the same. AA do have two associated support groups, Al Anon (for spouses, friends and siblings) and Al Ateen for children I have no idea if the latter two have groups in UAE but a call to AA might point you in the right direction. Good luck, I hope you find help here, talking to someone who has walked the same walk is not just supportive but also enormously healing.

The alternative would have been much worse.............at least two of the largest banks would have failed within weeks and the government would not have been able to meet next month's payroll........for police, doctors, teachers, firemen etc etc. Since the government sector is by far the largest employer on the island, there would have been financial and social catastrophe for the large section of the population. Even as it stands, the island is in for a very rocky few months.

Banks use agencies who specialise in debt recovery. I have no idea what the minimum debt is but a few months ago the police turned up at someone's home in the UK.He had a debt of less than 30,000dhs.If there are more than one to go about prosecuting, it is worthwile for the banks to go even for the small fish. It all adds up in the end.As a result of these absconders, those left here end up paying more to borrow money. Debt in the UK is a civil matter. If anyone turned up claiming to be the police, they, not the debtor, were guilty of a criminal offence. Debts incurred abroad can be sold on to debt collectors in the UK but they have no legal power to recover it. Usually they use threats of court procedure and in the case of less reputable agencies, sometimes worse..........which is most definitely illegal.
