Kat does look elegant but I think she should have chosen something (at least color) more understated for the occasion - it's not her party! I thought it was just me being a grumpy old woman...........glad to see someone else thinking the same. Just a tad too pushy to be a lady, let alone a future queen.

Isn't it interesting how we assume that Alex is a man? Perhaps because we all know that no woman in her right mind would let the maid loose on her Jimmy Choos? ;);) apart from when she's out and the maid [i'>wears[/i'> them !!! lol NOW...... that is definitely a cattle prod offence............

WELL.............................I started smoking in 1964.............................................and as of fourth months ago yesterday I am a non smoker. This after smoking three packs a day for the best part of 50 years. If I can do it, anyone can.....................it was a terrible bout of flu verging on pneumonia which gave me the impetus, but now what is keeping me going is the sense of freedom.................I don't NEED a have a cig, I don't HAVE to bail out of a meal to go outside for a fix and I don't FEEL LIKE A LEPER any more. Yes, I still miss that first glorious blast of nicotine in the morning, or that wonderful drag with the first slug of gin of the day............but I DON'T NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you have NO idea how liberating that feels! Once you get your head around the fact that you are not being deprived, but instead are finally FREE, it really does become so much easier. And just think of all the lovely shoes you can buy with the money!!!

Are you SURE she isn't leaking urine when she's sleeping? This sometimes happens in spayed females. There are treatments for this, so it may be worth at least checking with your vet to rule this out. [i'>Hormone-responsive incontinence occurs in neutered dogs of both sexes and occasionally in spayed female cats but occurs most commonly in female dogs. The pet can urinate normally, but they leak urine while resting. Physical examination and blood and urine tests are usually normal in these pets. Hormone-responsive incontinence can occur months to years after a pet is neutered. [/i'> Source: http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/cliented/incont.aspx This has happened with 2 female dogs I've had in the past, so it's not horribly uncommon. And it's very easily treated with drops.............Propalin from your vet. (And waving to Laura...........hugs and kisses from Teddy and Minnie also xxx)

NiP I suffer from this terribly and can totally sympathise with you saying it is like labour pain, for one or two hours I am doing the breathing exercises/hot water bottle thing and totally being overly dramatic ;) but it is VERY painful. I think it is follicles bursting/eggs getting stuck in tubes etc. Not sure there is much we can do about it really. :( Yes there is..............Ponstam Forte for the pain, and a daily dose of Evening Primrose Oil.

Roxan, thank you for your concern. I have to say that it's a nerve-wracking prospect. I don't have children of my own and the thought of having a (nearly) grown-up step-son living with us is quite alarming. I don't know what we would do if he doesn't attend school or pull his weight around the house and we would have to talk well in advance of him arriving about exactly what our expectations of him were. But, on the other hand, I think that if it's something he really wants to do then we have to give him the opportunity. If it doesn't work out then it could damage the relationship between DSS and DH, but not giving it the chance could do the same thing. And............it may very well end up damaging your marriage. Sorry, but this is unlikely to end happily, Dubai is no place for tricky adolescents. Good luck and all the best..............but please hear what Roxan is saying. .

I always assumed that schools were in loco parentis..........any punishment WITHIN school hours should be the school's decision.............. and wasn't what this pupil was subjected to a spell in isolation, rather than a detention? Informing parents of detention....ie post school hours is another matter. The OP should pause her tigress mother mode for a moment and consider what her baby angel might have done to incur the punishment...which was hardly a life damaging experience........and might just make a difference............assuming of course aforesaid baby angel is not taught to make a career out of being an "innocent" martyr?

At least we smokers and drinkers get to enjoy our bad life choices a little longer. Just like us bikers, Livelytrish. As I mentioned earlier, we are statistically less likely to die than by many other causes of death. We tend to live life to the full, which is partly why we ride. Sorry to read your below story. As long as we enjoy the ride..........bike or barstool............here's to life!:)

It depends on who the driver/owner is. I would not report it, because I doubt it will come to anything and also because I think I *know* who the owner of this animal is......and there is a greater chance of you paying the price. That reply is so depressing, and for so many reasons.

Could be quite true, Daza. Is why I thought I would mention alluded but at the same time unfortunately Princes_I did say bikers need their head examined. My response is a bit t*t for tat, I admit. Just a shame that people who work in the medical profession seem to refer to bikers as donors when there are lifestyle choices which cause more deaths (smoking, unhealthy eating etc etc) and they don't seem to get the attached label. Purely fighting the bikers' corner  ;) edited by wj731 on 18/12/2011 We smokers and drinkers make lousy donors because we tend to turn up our toes in middle to old age leaving raddled bodies like worn out shoes which a starving dog would sneer at. Whereas your average donor machine (sorry, bike rider) leaves a young and relatively (accident apart) body which has barely been used. Or begun to be lived in. My father spent several months in a neurological ward...........the sights there were heart breaking........and my son subsequently was in firstly an orthapaedic/trauma ward, and subsequently in neuro.........watching so many young chaps trying to manipulate wheelchairs/prosthetics ............and worst of all, tongue operated computers to communicate was heartbreaking. And all bike accidents. At least we smokers and drinkers get to enjoy our bad life choices a little longer. "I have burned the candle at both ends.............and it often burned with a lively light".........to quote a chum who died two days ago. RIP CH!

Quite apart from those people fortunate enough to do the owl run from some of the more unstable countries in the region, the tourist numbers must be way up on previous years, given the situations in Egypt and Tunisia, both previously highly popular winter destinations for tourists. Which may explain the temporary boost in Dubai's fortunes..........sadly the fundamentals of cheap borrowed money= unsustainable boom still apply.

When I said job wise, I was referring to the relative robustness of the economies.......... to which I believe the OP was referring. The relative quality of life depends entirely on personal choice......Doha does not do brunch with quite such dedication and the shopping is dire. Apart from that, it does have its pluses.

Princess whilst I can agree with you that they deserve punishment for being negligent, the other lady who lost her blind child was just nipping downstairs with her other two children whilst her child was asleep. Whilst I don't condone this and would never do this myself, perhaps she thought it was only for a few minutes and he wouldn't wake up (who knows) and I read that she is in a bad way, deeply suffering, blames herself. I hope they can look at each case on an individual basis and with compassion, as I think this lady is already dying a slow death in her own mind. I think you will probably say what about the compassion for the poor child, which I can agree with.. but we have to look deep within ourselves and think have we never done anything that could have potentially harmed our child without thinking. Have a look at this thread for a reality check. There but for the grace of God http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=155395 edited by Alismum on 30/11/2011 Like, like and triple like. It must be very reassuring for people to assume that they could never make an error of judgement. The demons of pain and life long remorse for these parents do not need a cheering on crowd., they will be quite enough in themselves.

But he as a trained Doctor was negligent in his care of his patient, no different from NHS doctors who get sent to prison for the same, yes he was not all to blame MJ didnt help himself, however, i think the sentencing reflects that. Live twitter updates here http://news.sky.com/home/world-news/article/16120390 edited by egg on 29/11/2011 The judge gave him the maximum sentence possible for the crime for which he was convicted.

Yes, speak to the school , in case there are any issues there, and also perhaps to alert them to the family pressures involved. BUT..............and sorry to sound harsh, but bereavement and failed relationships are facts of life....for ADULTS. Your sister may have chosen to sacrifice her family life to help resolve them, but the child had no choice in the issue, and it sounds as though she is paying a heavy price. Your sister needs to go home and you and your mother can best help your niece by letting her mother know that you can cope without her. It's amazing how much strength you can find when you have to think of others first.

I discovered the dangers of PPD the hard way, although I was luckier than the poor woman in the article.......i went into anaphylactic shock but was revived, I was blind for ten days and when i could see, didn't recognise myself because of the swelling. A few years ago I also discovered that "Black" henna............ also contains PPD. Luckily I had done a tiny patch test, and although i was very unwell for a few days (and still have a scar on my arm) the results were less drastic. It is possible to buy some safe (ie non PPD) very dark henna treatments from reputable herbal stores in the USA, but many people have found out the hard way that not all henna treatments are safe. And the majority of herbal or organic dyes do contain PPD, their claim to safety lies in the lack of ammonia and other chemicals. There are no permanent hair colourants without PPD, it is the fixative and the darker the colour, the great the concentration. Be careful ladies!

Okay............the weather in April should be lovely.......not totally predictable, it has been known to have the odd shower, but usually really starting to warm up.....in the high 20c's. It will still be beautifully green with lots of wild flowers! Best places to stay, probably Paphos or Pissouri...google Columbia Beach resort in the latter. Although Protaras in the east of the island is supposed to be lovely, but i have never been there. Larnaca airport is just under two hours from Paphos, a little less from Pissouri....about 100eu by taxi. Most of the good hotels will organise a car. For UK passports, no entry requirements whatsoever............

why is everyone so anti ?? i think she talks a lot of sense - apart from the cooking in underwear all the other "tips" are sensible..and a man who's feeling neglected or unloved IS more likely to look elsewhere imo. I can speak for myself: I do not like tricks and "artificial behaviours" in relationships, as a general rule. You know, the kind of things like should I not call him, should I date him five times before kissing, etc. I left these things behind after teenagehood... even if I agree that for some people sometimes they work, I hope the people we relate to deserve better than these manipulations, as innocent as they might be. Yes......tricks is the right word...........and we all know the profession which "turns tricks". Were I a man i would find this article insulting...............and can you imagine the howls of outrage from the Sisterhood, if a male journo wrote a similarly patronising piece..........."How to keep the silly little woman happy"? Still, she did catch everyone's attention!!

No one was directly culpable for the death, assuming that the madman could not be held responsible due to insanity, and that none of the other protagonists, including the wife, had any idea let alone intent, that their individual actions would lead to a death.
