Of the clothing variety (sorry if you were expecting something more juicy! ;) ) So ladies, finally after almost a year, I'm managing to shed some of my baby weight. I'm half way there but now I'm at that horrible stage where I'm too skinny for my fat clothes and too fat for my skinny clothes. I live in about 2 pairs of cropped jeans, which every time i bend down i end up looking like an extra in a bad hip-hop video from the early 2000's with my waist band sitting under my butt! Problem is I just cant find any decent bottoms (trousers or skirts anywhere!!) So far, all iv managed to find are full length normal weight jeans, teenie tiny hot pants (my legs were not made for hot pants of any kind, even pre-baby!!), micro-mini skirts, those skirts which are short at the front and long at the back - not really ideal for day wear for a stay at home mom, or the ones which are a short skirt with a long see-through skirt over the top. All i want is some cropped trousers / linen trousers or a decent (appropriate length) skirt. Just normal day wear that also looks ok in public!! Is this really too much to ask for?? I dont want to spend the earth as I'm hoping to only be using them for a couple of months or so. Anyone seen anything that fits what im looking for?? Please help!! TIA! :) xx

I personally agree more with the K9 option, however if for whatever reason you feel this isn't for you, I do have a friend here whose pug very recently had pups and when they're old enough, i think she will be looking at re-homing some of them. They are well looked after and in good health. If you are interested, let me know and i can maybe put you in touch with her.

Hi Lamaaz Im sorry to hear you had an upsetting experience with your dr. i do however feel that a lot of the blame actually lies with the nursing staff to be honest. their lack of appropriate communication to you surely was the main issue initially, as, had they been more forthcoming with information to you (such as Dr has X number of patients to see before you / is likely to be another 30-45 mins etc) then you could have made the decision whether to stay or reschedule. That is not the fault of the dr. We are (in my opinion) lucky here to have a dr led service and to receive the level of care that we do. As others have said, no-one knows what the dr had been through that morning or the night before - maybe she had been involved in a very traumatic labour and lost a baby - you just dont know. I am also a health care professional, and sometimes you do run late - generally through no fault of your own. If you've just had a traumatic experience with a patient, the last thing you need is to have a patient then start reminding you of how late you are running like that is more important than what you've just been dealing with. You already know how late you are! and to be honest, that may (at that moment) be the least of your worries. I was frequently kept waiting for anything from 30mins - 1 hour during my pregnancy. did i mind? no, not really. it was a bit of an inconvenience so i planned my day assuming a long wait and if it didnt happen it was a bonus. In fact i actually found it a little comforting to know that if there was a problem during my pregnancy (as there was one one occasion), my dr would fit me in if i needed seeing urgently even if it meant those after me having to wait a little longer. so every time i was delayed i just thought of it as someone with a greater need than my own at that time getting the care they needed. I never expected an apology for being kept waiting. Why should she have to apologise for giving her patients the care they need at the time they need it. What if you were that patient who just had some tragic news about your baby or was about to tip over into PND, or had gone into early labour, and needed her time - would you then be happy for her to neglect your needs just so that she wasnt running late for her next patient?? The way she spoke to you - somewhat insensitive, perhaps, but "repulsive".....really??! As healthcare professionals, yes, no matter what the circumstances we should always remain professional and try and smile and apologise where necessary, but as i said, who knows what her day had already thrown at her. Perhaps she was going to apologise but maybe you jumped in there with the "i've been waiting 45 mins" routine first? Its a real shame if she is a dr who you have complete trust in her clinical skills, but have decided to move on because of this one incident. Those dr's are actually quite hard to come by over here. I understand why you may now feel uncomfortable with her but for me, a dr's clinical skills and ability to keep me and my baby safe are far more important than their bedside manner. I hope you manage to find another dr you will feel more comfortable and equally as confident with for the rest of your pregnancy. edited by LMAO-DXB on 11/06/2013

Thanks for the replies ladies. Managed to get DD down for a nap (without calpol! ;) ) yesterday and before she woke up DH had managed to get out of work and was working from home yesterday afternoon and today. Im so grateful!! feeling a little better today but couldn't have managed her on my own! Calpol does make them drowsy (well, does with mine anyway!) but i try to only use it for her benefit, not mine, altho it is very tempting sometimes!!! ;)

Thanks for the suggestions. I didnt know howdra offered baby sitting. Didnt see it mentioned on their websit so might try giving them a call and see what they say. Unfortunately we dont know any of our neighbours well enough to ask them to look after DD. Splinters, the calpol is very tempting but thinking it is maybe a little wrong!! have had her strapped into her high chair glued to cartoons all morning but she's getting cranky so had to take her out. :( maybe just keep my fingers crossed and hope for a personal best time on the nap front??! ETA - wow, i am slow at typing today! 3 more replies while i was typing this msg!! sadly no play-pen (life would be so much easier with one but no space. Grrr!) and as for toys, she has loads but isnt interested in any of them! only wants to play with remote controls, mobile phones, the lap top and anything that can potentially do her some damage! Think maid agency is the way forward.....or see if DH can work frm home this afternoon! Thanks for the messages. times like this i really wish my mom was close by! edited by LMAO-DXB on 03/06/2013

Hi LMAO-DXB We booked our trip through Atoll Paradise and they got us a really great deal. Make sure you mention you are travelling with a child as, for example, some resorts will be ruled out (eg Anantara Veli). We are staying at the Dhigu and have half board, cost is around $800 per night for an overwater villa. If you're looking to save on some costs, consider Fly Dubai - they do direct flights for about 1,300dhs per adult, and the flights are at reasonable times too. Flying Emirates or Etihad would be about double. Thanks for the tips TDB, had forgotten that some resorts are adults only!! Thankfully, we can use our annual flights for other destinations, not just home so at least that part will be covered! :) Has anyone ever used any of the Cobone / Groupon deals for Maldives?? I always see them but for some reason im a bit skeptical about using one for something like this. Probably because of all the bad experiences i keep hearing others have with these companies for other things!

Where did you find the best place to make your reservation through? We usually just use either Booking.com or book directly thru the hotel website. Is there anywhere else that could be better or where i can find better deals?

We had exactly the same problem with KIA just over a year ago. We also bought a Sorento. We were in desperate need of a car so just went for a different colour. We generally found KIA to be completely useless with EVERYTHING!! The sales guys were a nightmare as were the servicing guys especially when they found a problem on the car when doing a service and then insisted on keeping the car for 5 days to sort it out (it was a 2 hour job but they were completely disorganised and it dragged out for way longer than it should have). It was only after this incident when hubby threw a full on wobbley at the service department and then somehow befriended one of the guys there that our service experience started to get better. Saying that tho, we did really like our Sorento and found it to be great value for money. Hope you manage to get it sorted soon!

Our Furbaby always goes to Woof! in Al Quoz. They've recently moved to a bigger premises and its fab! All the guys and girls there are fantastic and really take great care of all the pooches. I love the fact that when boarding there, they get to spend the entire day in Day Care playing with all the other pooches, rather than being stuck in their kennel and only being let out for a couple of hours a day. Our girl always has a fab time and they send us photos every couple of days so we can see how she's getting on. Wouldn't send ours anywhere else. Go have a look around and see what you think! :) Their number is: 050 378 7486 ETA ours is also a desert dog - there are quite a few of them at Woof. :) edited by LMAO-DXB on 26/05/2013

I don't know what exactly happened & if I'm honest, I don't want to know as these awful images linger & upset me so much. I'm just so sad that these horrendous situations keep happening. A tragic reflection on mankind that some people think that inflicting pain and suffering on defenceless animals is acceptable. Has this situation been publicized in 7 Days? Not sure about 7days but i know Hayley from DSDP has been busy today doing interviews with gulf news, radio 2, another radio station and has been asked for an interview with Ahlan on the situation. Apparently local schools are also wanting to get involved. It really is such a tragedy but here's hoping something good will come from it.

My point is you can't come here and not build in a safety net for yourself. We have several - for all contingencies - including reserve insurance in our home country. I'm always surprised by these "hard luck stories" that could easily have been avoided with a bit of common sense. Good for you Quinn. Im genuinely happy for you that you and your family are in such a blessed position to be able to do so. However, sadly, we're not all in such a fortunate position. Please give OP a break and try showing just a little compassion, or perhaps just opt out of this thread altogether now? There's no need for all the negative comments. OP's situation sounds stressful enough as it is. Do you not think that comments such as your own will be adding to this for her? Not fair. edited by LMAO-DXB on 19/05/2013

In life, there are people who are the voice of reason and there are those who have no common sense whatsoever as well. All of you are encouraging the OP but no one is leaping off their chair to volunteer their services either. The best option for the OP is to get a job like the rest of us or to go back to her country of origin. It doesn't appear that her illness precludes that. Unnecessary Quinn, just unnecessary. Some people are actually offering to try and help. If you dont feel that you are in a position to offer help or support for OP, ethically or otherwise please stop commenting as your comments are detracting from the purpose of the thread and are particularly unkind. I've seen enough negative comments on this thread now as Im sure many others have too.

I've read a lot of the responses to this thread but not all, so perhaps this has been mentioned already but I dont really understand why people are getting so soap boxy about the ethics regarding a pre-existing condition. realistically, this is no different to joining a group policy when already pregnant, except with pregnancy the ins company is guaranteed to have to pay out an absolute minimum of about AED11k, and usually a considerable amount more, and all within the first year of being on the policy. I know for certain that when joining a group policy with almost any ins company, so long as there are enough people in the group, you are automatically covered for pre-existing conditions, of which pregnancy is included, aswell as other long term pre-existing health issues. So am i missing something here? As others have said, if its legal, and within the terms and conditions for BUPA's policy, who are we to criticize and make an issue where there really isnt one. Some one is in an awful situation and needs help. If it isnt going to be of detriment to anyone else, why shouldn't people help if in a position to do so. It could so easily be any one of us. OP, unfortunately im not in a position to be able to offer help. If i was, I would. I really hope your problem gets solved soon. All the best! xx edited by LMAO-DXB on 19/05/2013

Hey ladies! DH is saying he really wants to take a family holiday this year rather than the usual trek home but I have no idea where we should go! DD will probably be just over 1 year by time we go. Although I like the idea of a holiday, it just seems stressful at the moment! I'd love to go to Australia to see my best friend who left Dubai 2 days after DD was born, but dont think I could handle the long flight as DD is pretty hyperactive at the best of times at the moment. So, somewhere with a flight time pref no longer than about 4-5 hours, and family / child friendly. We've done lots of holidays in the various Emirates since we've been here so looking for something new. Looking forwards to your suggestions! :) xx

Hi KH Sorry to hear you had such an awful experience with your last birth and that your OB/Gyn isnt being more understanding and supportive this time around!! I had a planned C-sec with my DD almost a year ago now here in Dubai, and although i was a little disappointed at not being able to have a VB (DD is my first child) to be honest, I think i got away really lightly compared to some of my friends who had a VB. I know quite a few people who have had C-sections and have struggled for months afterwards, but to be honest, in my opinion a lot of it is in your attitude towards it. I resigned myself to the fact that this was how it was going to be, and planned to be up and out of bed same day - which I was. I didnt try to play the hero - if i was offered pain meds, i took them; followed the rules on what i could / couldnt do and just got on with it. Yes, it was uncomfortable at times but thats all i can describe it as. I didnt have what i could really call pain at all from my c-section. I didnt have any family support here besides my husband for the first 5 weeks after DD was born and we managed just fine (with a little help from our friends! :) ) The biggest pain in the bum with it all was the no driving for 6 weeks afterwards, but give me that any day compared with what you went through!! Maybe one of the things in my favour was that im a physio and used to see all the maternity patients post c-sec so i knew what to do, how to do it, and the fact that i wasnt about to split open as soon as i stood up. I think fear is usually the biggest problem and barrier for people when they've had surgery, so my advice would be, if you decide to go for a c-sec, get all the info you can on how to do things post op (i.e. how to get in / out of bed, walking, coughing/sneezing, etc) then at least you know what to expect and its not so scary afterwards. Dont trust the nursing staff to always show you the best way - I had a nurse trying to drag me out of bed until I told her to get off me and asked her if she remembered ANYTHING I'd taught her in her manual handling training only 18 months before!! ;) Good luck with your decision making. If i were in your position, I'd definitely be wanting a c-sec. For me, a few weeks of discomfort and inconvenience would definitely be better than what you went through before and the potential problems you could encounter in the future!! Hope you manage to find an OB who will be more supportive! HTH xx

JESS has an outstanding rating. You do need to know what you want from a school, what curriculum, teaching staff from particular countries, and more. Everyone has to pay a debenture at JESS which you can get refunded when you leave. If your company 'owns' debentures in the school then you would goto the top of the list. Sorry, the KHDA report we looked at lastnight must have been an old one that stated "Good" just checked the 2013 one and you are correct, JESS is down as Outstanding. My mistake :s We want British curriculum, preferably teachers who have English as their first language, and preferably not overly large class sizes. I am sad to say that we are restricted on budget and obviously want to try and get the best that we can for our DD, for the money we can afford. We are in the Tecom/Greens area. If anyone has any other schools they could suggest which they think may fit the bill, I'd be interested to look at other options. Sorry, but I still dont understand what a Debenture is. can somebody please explain?

Aren't their 'locations, ratings and fees' quite different? They are, however they are about the same distance from where we live, are both KHDA rated as "Good" and are both within our budget. Sorry to sound a bit stupid but what is "Corporate Debentures"? It also mentions it on the JESS website as Corporate Debentures AED20,000, but i dont know what this means. Are waiting lists likely to be full for 2015 already? If so....what do i do now? :(

Ok, so now really confused! I know going for a cash buyer would be far less complicated but the finance buyer has the better offer on price. I called the bank to ask something else regarding the issue and was told a totally different story - that i had to sign a contract with the buyer, take it to the police station, both sign it in front of the police who would then stamp it to say it had been witnessed, then hand the car over to the buyer and get it registered in their name then would receive the money at a later date.......the same snotty nosed call center guy also told me "oh course it will be fine handing the car over without having been paid for it, this is Dubai, bad things don't happen here!" ....like as if id just stepped off the plane! So anyway, then spoke to his manager who said that we sign a sale agreement, then the bank gives me the cheque, then we go and get the registration sorted, which sounds far more sensible. Can anyone with experience in selling to finance buyers, or having bought a car privately with finance PLEASE tell me what the actual story really is?!
