Thanks Apricot, maybe you are right that there has been a change recently in the regulations. I guess it is not worth the fight but, I just wanted to know if anyone else dealt with this recently since it was a change from when my DD went just two years ago. Also, the nursery did use the cloth nappies with my DS for two weeks without any problem, I didn't have to explain anything except what to do with the soiled ones (which they have to put in a plastic bag whether they are cloth or not). I don't think the teacher / helper minded, I think the director is only worried about a fine from KHDA. And I never lost a single one when my DD used them. Sadly, since the switch to disposables my son had awful diaper rash...maybe coincidence but, still annoying,

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer but, I would love to hear what you find out as I want to do the same thing. Our regular agency maid is on a two year contract until March 2014 and I would love to hire her as a live-in before then.... I am afraid to even ask her company in case it gets her in trouble.

The US store is not selling factory unlocked phones for at least a few weeks (even after they start selling them at the physical stores on Sept 21). This means if you want to get one from the US you have to go with a locked phone to one of three network providers - Verizon, Sprint and AT&T. Not all of these phones, even if unlocked, will work on the UAE network (I think AT&T works fine) but, I would not recommend trying to unlock a phone yourself - it is getting harder and harder to do and you always risk having it get relocked when you update the software. However, when they do start selling the factory unlocked phones from the US store, they will work here fine as long as Etisalat and Du start providing nano-sims (different than the current micro sims). You can also buy factory unlocked phones from Canada the UK and I believe the other European countries where they are currently on sale and all of these will work on our networks. But, you still have the Nano-Sim issue.... And as someone pointed out in other thread, the 4G LTE will probably not work here with these phones (but you can continue to use the slower 3G bandwidth) If you want that then wait for the ones that are sold officially here. The big downside (IMHO) about the UAE officially sold phones (and iPads) is that they do not have FaceTime and you cannot add it. I don't know if this will be true with the iPhone 5 but, it has been the case with all phones and iPads thus far. And FaceTime works great on my US purchased iPad and iMac through Du internet connection. In summary, be careful if you are buying something from the grey market at one of the stores here. If someone tells you it is a US factory unlocked phone that is not possible at this time. It could be factory unlocked from other countries though. And you should probably check with Du / Etisalat about the nano-sim before buying anything if you want to be able to use it right away. :-)

How can there be a 3 month waiting list when they are not even opening the Apple site up for pre-orders until tomorrow (Sept 14)??? I think this is just a rumor. I am sure they will be here in Dubai as soon as they start selling them in the stores in the US / UK (Sept 21) for a hefty markup. You could just order one through the apple website (if you have a US / UK credit card) and have it shipped through Shop N Ship.... The big question I have is when will Etisalat and Du have the new Nano-Sims that the iPhone uses? This is not just a smaller SIM like the micro sim (where you could just cut a regular sim to fit) but, it is also thinner. Du's webpage says they will be bring the iPhone 5 and nano sims to the UAE as soon as possible and no mention of it on Etisalat. It would kind of suck to get the phone over here and then not be able to use your local number!

V Gallery in the Outlet Mall has a great selection and everything I have bought there seems to be authentic and inexpensive. There is also Bellisimo there which has a lot of completely random brands but, a few good ones.

Wow, thanks so much ladies! This is such great info and I feel like I am armed with so much more info when I go for my next appt. I absolutely love my doctor and I know she only has my and the babies health in mind but, sometimes I think I need to stand up a little more about what I want and now I feel like I can do that. As I said, I am definitely not 100% against epidurals (or other pain control) and of course, if I or the baby were truly at risk I would never turn down a C-section but, it does seem a little unnecessary to have an epidural just because I am attempting a VBAC and I am glad I am not the only one who feels that way. Thanks again, you guys are great! I will let you know how it goes.

Hi, I'm planning on attempting a VBAC for my second baby soon. My doctor says I'm a good candidate and she is very pro VBAC but she mentioned, at my last visit, that she prefers to have her patients have an epidural when it is a VBAC. She gave two reasons, so that if there are any problems you can easily top up the meds and have a csection and because with an epidural it is actually easier for them to monitor for potential uterine rupture (I wasn't really clear how this worked). I'm not completely against epidurals but, I was hoping to at least try labor without any pain meds. I was wondering if anyone who has had a successful VBAC were you pushed into an epidural or not? Also did you have to have constant monitoring if no epidural was given? I know it is my decision in the end but, it would be great to have some backup.

This is my 2nd baby with Dr. Elsa and I'm 37 weeks now. For both I went monthly up to 32 weeks, bi weekly for 34 and 36 weeks and after that weekly. But I have high BP so she wanted to put a few more towards the end than normal. I think it depends more on the patient needs than a specific schedule. edited by lolabug on 10/10/2011

I'm having my second baby with Dr. Elsa in November and can say for sure that there isn't a problem getting an appt if you're an existing patient of hers. Also, I highly recommend her as do so many people if you do a quick search of past posts. Naaz, the only extra charges outside the package price I had from my first delivery (c section) was the food my husband ordered and maybe a few hundred dirhams for pain meds and vitamins. If you have a natural birth and want an epidural that is extra, I think.

Thanks ladies, this really helps me figure out what I need to do. I am definitely leaning towards putting DD into something in Sept probably for 3 days a week (assuming I can find a spot - BB did say they were full in Sept but, I could be on the waiting list). I haven't checked the others yet. I better get on it! DD loves to be around other kids so, I hope she enjoys "school" and it will give me the added benefit of some time with the newborn alone too.

It is good to know I am not the only one debating this! kiwispiers, you have a good point about the additional germs DD will be introduced to at nursery and also the lack of language skills most kids have at this age. I am also used to the whole, kids don't go to nursery until they are 3 thing since that is what typically happens in the US but, it does seem like more and more younger kids here are going to school and loving it. Also, I am not that involved in play groups or things but, DD loves to play with other kids at the pool and park (or wherever we are) so, I think she would enjoy a little more peer interaction. I was initially thinking I would wait and start her in January after the baby is born but, one of the Building Blocks people I spoke to suggested starting beforehand so it wouldn't seem like the baby was the reason I was "getting rid of her". I have to agree that she has a point. Also, since I work from home and don't have a nanny/helper it would be really great to have a few mornings a week where I don't have both kids to watch. I think I am definitely leaning towards trying to enroll her somewhere starting in September (if it isn't already too late!). I did just sign DD up for a week of summer camp at Building Blocks. I thought this would be a good trial to see if she absolutely hates it or not. I know things change a lot in a few months but, at least I can get an idea of her social capabilities and also test out the school without committing to a whole term.

My paed gives it at 15 months instead of 12 or 18 so that it is the only one given at the time. I do agree that they seem to get so many vaccines now but, dd had no reaction and after seeing my uncle get shingles later in life from not getting chicken pox when he was young and the pain he is in sometimes I figure this is worth it.

I'm due on the first with no. 2. My dd is 17 months and I found out last week at my NT scan that this one is a boy. We are excited since my family has lots and lots of girls.
