There are shops called Smokers Centre in MOE, MCC, Ibn Battuta Thanks for this. I appreciate it. Though I went there and got the news that it was already banned and the only place to get it is at the airport. Oh well... I appreciate the concern of the others too, knowing that Chewing Tobacco is bad. I just wanted a gift for my hubby. As gross as it is, I just wanted to make him happy and spoil him a little. But I guess, I just have to force him to stay away from it as it is banned and is not good for his health. I'm sure with a little imagination you can think of something else that will spoil him make him happy [b'>Miss Sophie. [/b'> :shy:

I am curious as to why everyone automatically thinks there has to be something wrong with the child? I am genuinely asking as I see people automatically thinking or jumping to conclusions either about the mother or the child yet no posts seem to be a simple 'maybe the teacher/school has a problem' wasn't there a post about schools that hired non-certified teachers? Maybe it's one of them? To the OP, wishing you the best of luck. Actually i did. The more that gets posted the more i would be changing schools at speed. 1 book a week? If you do a search on here you should be able to find Tristan under tutor, there was also an ad for Tristan's AA tutors in the large DSO spinneys a while ago, maybe still there? Anyway their tutors are excellent.

Actually I think your teacher is naff (from your posts) and any educational professional who responds with such responses shouldn’t be in the profession, no wonder education is so dismal. I’d be looking to change schools and find a school that cares, inspires and educates by employing teachers who care. Story writing can be really hard for children and they need inspiration. I would suggest you spend a lot of time reading with your daughter, not just the rubbish books the schools send home but proper story books that will inspire her to read and enjoy literature. Download some great films that will get the imagination going and then talk to her about them and stir her imagination. Talk and make up lots of crazy stories, it doesn’t matter if it is real or not, it is about getting her to ignite thoughts. Then help her to plan a story, there is loads on the internet, give her a structure and some key sentences and words (story adjectives,verbs, connectives etc). Whatever she writes praise, and say how fabulous it is, at this age all you want is kids writing. It doesn’t matter about grammar and spelling, the literary flow is what is important. It is very common for children to get their B’& D’s and 6 and 9’s the wrong way around, this can easily be fixed by writing them on the back on the hands (L & R).

Sorry but no way would I change from EC, EC gets some fab results and if ever nurturing was important it is during these exam years, a happy child is one who can learn well. Also factor in the curriculum change. Presuming you want that area, otherwise my choices would be Desc and JC.

DR, I think that is a little hard and questionably political correctness gone mentally unstable. We've all had a mental, mad or manic day at work. Frustration has driven us nuts or crazy. Affectionately, we may have referred to an eccentric friend as "bonkers" or "as mad as a box of frogs". It was a slang term used, discussing mental health is important; we don't want to discourage those discussions and the oppourtunity can be used to educate rather than berate possibly? <em>edited by Lolacat on 02/11/2014</em>

This is absolute nonsense, try other British curriculum schools. Some nationals from the southern hemisphere will have to sit back a year entering schools here and will have to when they return home, it’s unfortunately the nature of how the school years run, but no big problem. I suggest you try some other Schools and not be put off by this poor response. Try Kings, Nord Anglia, Safa. You could also approach KHDA for their advice.

I also thought the family may have felt they had to take up the offer of accommodation. But that aside - some of the derogatory terms used to describe a woman who may have mental health issues are a disgrace and say more about the posters than anyone else. May have had, being the operative words, all speculation. Mental issues or not, the woman’s described behaviour was totally unacceptable and that of her husband.

Here is my opinion as an avid gardener, the plant souq has the largest choice of pots at a whole range of prices. Certainly your everyday posts are cheaper there and there is room to negotiate on price. The plants are cheaper and there is the widest choice, turnover is fast and quality good. When there you will see trucks who supply the other nurseries around Dubai. You can get to the plant souq really in about 30 to 40 mins from the furthest reaches of Dubai if the traffic is good. It is just past Dragon Mart and well worth a visit. Go early in the morning so you can have a good wander around and find what you like. The Dubai Garden centre has a pot sale on at the moment and their prices are also good.

Go visit KHDA or write to them about your suspicions. Primary teachers are meant to be teacher qualified and hold the relevant educational certificates. I’m sure they would be interested in any teacher who falsified their qualifications.

In the last 6 months or so the 2 young boys next door have knocked on my door looking for our internet password. The first time one came in with his iPad at the ready and just asked me to type in my password. I said no and he said it was for his mother to do work. Again a few days ago the other son came in and asked for the password again. Again I said no and used the same excuse that his mother want it. Is this a Dubai thing that it acceptable for everyone to share there passwords. I just can't believe the cheek as they have caused us nothing but trouble since we moved in. What do you mean is this a Dubai thing? What you think nowhere else in the world this could happen? It’s not a big deal, don’t make it one. Two kids trying to probably circumnavigate their mum by using their initiative asking the neighbour! Why not ask the mum nicely about it rather than falling into the is this a Dubai thing trap. If the kids are a problem then go talk to the parents about it.

Thank you Jenny and MrsG. I have heard about the chiropractor and I am willing to give anything a try at this point. Hopefully, he will be able to help her! Jenny, I do think her bladder is very small b/c she has to "go" constantly, but she also drinks a LOT. I had it checked out a few years ago and they said it was normal. If the chiropractor doesn't work out, I will have her bladder tested again. Thank you guys so much for all your help! Why are you wasting you money on a chiropractor? Please go to a good GP before you but your daughter through any unnecessary treatments that could well end up making it worse.

Take her to Dr Carol Smiley at Mirdiff polyclinic, or one of the other recommended GP’s posted on here. She may need some diagnostics, a qualified experienced GP will know how to help. Have you also considered she may be overtired and not getting enough sleep and therefore when she does sleep, sleeps very deeply? The other issue could be stress. Does the bed wetting come and go? There are many questions that need to be asked and you need the help of a good medical professional to rule out whether it is just a physical issue or a psychological one or just an issue she will grow out of. Many children wet the bed for years and then just stop, but it sounds as if you good do with some proper advice. I would avoid looking at diet and quackery, its unproven baloney. If you look hard enough you can find a million and one reasons why this is happening and there will be someone out there who will sell you something to cure it. Whilst the issue is a pain for all, it is something that is not that unusual so do not feel you are alone.

Thanks Dilly77. I'll look for an osteopath. May I know why you recommend an osteopath over the others? You should not go near anyone until you have had this looked at and diagnostics done. Your symptoms are suggestive of disk issues, therefore you need to see 1) a good GP who can send you for an MRI and then refer as needed. Shoulder pain can often be referred pain. Google is not always your friend. There are some excellent GP's here you can see. A search on here will come up with loads of suggestions. Dr Carol Smiley, Dr Saima, Dr Sarah Gilbert etc. You could go straight to Up and Running and book to see Dr Anna, there you can be referred for diagnostics and then have treatment with their physios. Another good physio is Bronwen Peacock, who is excellent. Any good Osteopath of Chiropractor will not touch you until you have had some form of diagnostics with the symptoms you are displaying.

30 years ago, when computers were first introduced to schools in a widespread way, it was claimed that the use of keyboards would lead to students not being able to write with pen and paper. It hasn't happened, and that's not likely to change any time soon. Schools are simply adapting to new technology, the technology that students are going to be using in the real world. Are there schools out there that have deliberately abandoned any kind of handwriting? edited by Madge_Gustard on 19/09/2014 But there is a difference between using a computer and keyboard to an ipad. Ipads teach few IT skills but they are cheaper.

I feel it very much depends on which school you attend as to the role the class mum/parent rep performs. Some schools expect their class mums (PR) to almost act as members of staff and distribute information that quite honestly the school should. Other schools mainly the American and non-profits use the class mum role to raise funds and build a community. Having experienced several different schools the role criteria is vast between schools. I have also seen some mothers take the role on to get further into the hierarchy of the school and win brownie points with the teacher, yuck. A well run and well defined parental body is paramount to a schools community ethos. Some schools don’t really want a parental body with a voice, some do. IMHO
