There are loads of schools opening that will probably have space. Dovecote at the green community, Safa new school, Kings two new campuses, Nord Anglia. Then you have Raffles, Regent and all the new Gems schools.

Our maid waters the garden, mows the lawn, cleans the pool and washes the cars,all within her regular 4/5 days , 7/9 hours a day. She even likes throttling around outside and "playing" with water. If I were OP I certainly wouldn't link the pay rise you gave her to the extra chores you're giving her. She will then feel it's oke to ask for more money every time something new comes up. Mows the lawn? Washes the cars? throttling? wow is there anything your maid does not do? Lol, checked the translation, throttling should be pottering. There lot's of things she doesn't do, but they are of no concern to you. Well surely she is not working hard enough if she has time to potter and play with water! Surely you can find her some other chores for those minutes. lol

That's not. BUT as a 'human-being' it would be responsible to make sure she at least is going somewhere safe. And everyone seems to forget the innocent party - the child. Honestly some people are so heartless. FD, that is all well and lovely but do you know what the alternative is if she stays here and has a child out of wedlock? Whilst Izzy's point comes across rather hard, ultimately she is correct and it is the responsibility of the maid. This is not a victim of rape, this person made a choice as many seems to do and get it very wrong. The domestics here seem to have amazing love lives, just beyond me.

What a horrible situation. She really needs to tell you the truth about it. One thing that no one is considering though - and just from the human point of view - is obviously she's been unfaithful and I know it's not your problem. But what will her husband/family do when confronted with an adulterous wife and illegitimate child? We all know that some of these countries and people take a horrific view of it, so you might have to be prepared that she will freak out at the prospect of being sent home, to a possibly life endangering situation. She will go home and lie and deal with it in her home country without her husbands knowledge. She will freak out and lie her back teeth off to the OP anyway, the OP must be prepared for her to do a runner and have everything in place to deport her.

I'm afraid i have to agree with the others and the medical information you have been given is pretty clear cut. She is not four months pregnant she is 5-6 weeks pregnant and it is unlikely she has miscarried as the hospital would have picked this up and advised a different course of action. The next set of bloods will determine more of an accurate picture, the Hcg levels will either be doubling or reducing, depending on pregnancy or miscarriage. Here is a thought, is she in pain because she has taken something as she knew she was pregnant, It would possibly co inside with coming back from a few days off? If the scan shows she is at that stage of pregnancy and the blood test confirms that the chances are that is exactly the case. I suggest you sit down with her and lay it out on the table, you need to know the truth. You tell her she must tell you the truth as you can not help her if she does not tell you and she will end up in jail if she does not. Rental prices for three bed and maids apartment look at Dubbizle and contact some agents, you could look at the new downtown Dubai and Bur Dubai area near Dubai Mall which is very nice. Prices range from 200 to 500 K per year. Or you could go towards the Marina/Palm as there are good Metro links. Education, no there are no schools like Steiner, thank goodness in my opinion, but it appears there is a tiny home school group that blog, google. Why not look at Nord Anglia school, they have a nice ethos you may like. Or Foremarke prep. But you may have problems getting your children into schools in Dubai if they have been in the Steiner system and their reading and education is poor and behind their peers here in Dubai. You either put your kids in school or home school but the home school networks normally follow the K12 as per government regulation. Presently you can home school and teach what you wish however you never know when this may change. Private health, very rarely covers dental or optical bar a basic emergency allowance. Look at BUPA or contact a broker in Dubai or Oz. Utilities - (very roughly) budget for min 2000 dhs per month to 10K depending on where you live and what you rent. Food, family of four eating organic and eating out look at 2000 dhs per week. Organic shop on Sh Zayed road near Oasis centre, other shops now stocking organic produce and some like green-heart that deliver veg etc. This is just a very rough guide, i'm sure others can add their thoughts.

Firstly these seat lock things should be banned by all airlines with heavy fines in place for anyone using them. Secondly if passengers want cheaper travel then they should be prepared to have seats close to each other, if you are 8 ft 2 or fat then buy business. The issue is one the airlines need to address by simply giving more leg room and redesigning food trays to come from the center not the seat in front. I'm appalled that there are fights from grown adults on planes over the fact a chair reclines all of 4 inches, it's quite pathetic. The airlines need to take a strong stance on this poor behaviour and make it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated. If part of your package is that a seat reclines it is no ones right to dictate (except the airline) when you should recline your seat.

DorisDaydream you are obviously upset but you need to establish what the actual issues are. One minute you say it's because of his accent, the next he had his nose busted the next he was manhandled. Having a nose bleed is not a busted nose. However, I would be extremely concerned that anyone pushed your child or another down to the extent it caused a nosebleed. Now either this was an over exuberant accident or it was malice. Both should be addressed by the camp as serious and apologies and discipline handed out accordingly. Re the accent, what is the issue really? SO many children have accents in this part of the world i would honestly be surprised is an accent alone was cause for bullying. That is not saying bullying is not going on but something is and your son is just picking up on the accent bit. Maybe you can speak to him more and see what else is he gets picked on for. Unfortunately camps are very difficult as they are open to a whole range of kids and some attendees really are not very nice, there is little one can do except what you have which is remove your child.

The trip is not that bad. Why not contact the school and speak directly to them, they will be aware of how many kids are coming from that area, school bus requests and have access to a messaging system where they could put your message out if looking for a lift share.

I'm looking for my own son for a school for next year and so I've seriously done my homework on the schools and I wish for him to be there as long as possible. All of the schools I've mentioned don't go up to year 10 they go further. Nord Anglia is hoping to grow up to the age of 18 as stated on their website. The pricing structures for Kings dubai run upto school year 12-13. They are both gcse and English curriculum. Victory heights is a primary English curriculum which is a great school but I'm sorry I don't know the gems school that I've mentioned because I only pass it every day but worth googling gems al barsha. Desc again as I mentioned before has been recommended by my children's headmistress (which personally I think is a good thing) but academic city is too far from us and it would be a huge day everyday for my son with the travel, homework etc. However there are the other schools as mentioned by everyone else on this thread. In terms of WSO I'm assuming the op has already looked at kdha website I think they have reviews on there? I think personally it's a case of get out here and see what suits you as a family and how each schools ethos fits with your children. It's very difficult! NONE of the schools you mentioned, Kings Al Barsha, Victory heights primary and Nord Anglia are taking Year 10's THIS year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Schools have to be established before they offer year 10. The OP has a year 10, this is not a year you can wing it and just see which school has a place if you value education and your child's future. You don't just move a year 10 student and see what suits if you don't have to. It's always best when responding to a post to try to give accurate information.

Hi I know at least 5 people of a similar age working within the financial/banking sector here in Dubai. And they love it. But they came, at least initially with their existing UK employer. One with HSBC and another with standard chartered as examples. If you can Zara29078, that's the way in I think you'd be best considering. Thanks podonnel - I work for Lloyds/Halifax so will see if they do have offices over there, if not I do have transferable skills so will do some more digging xx Yes perhaps researching the financial banking sector in depth in the UAE, it's employment polices/salaries would be an excellent start.

Now does lipsil count as makeup? Last time I went into Boots it was yes. Anything that you put on your face and requires you to take your eyes off the road to look in the mirror is make up. Though I am sure some women can apply lippy without a mirror. It was tongue in cheek! However, i'm not sure Boots determines such things.

Lolakitty - its probably a bit of both. You can't always tell that the knife can't be sharpened when obtained - sometimes you hope that it will work but only with time do you realise. PS - do you still need those group hugs or are you feeling a little better today? ;) And that's the problem Izzy; groups hugs and a namby pamby attitude with cloudy boundaries when employing staff!! lol I would suggest it is normally always a bit of both as you so put it. Oh I am sorry that usually is NOT the case! I have spent endless hours talking to my incompetent house maid and have decided there was NO use and that I could not change stupid! I have had 3 housemaids in Dubai for over 10 years and have never had any problems… Until I met my latest of 1.5 years. She could only view and understand my generosity as weakness and stretched my boundaries to no return. Some of these house maids are true gold diggers and they truly ruin it for the good ones! As I have had amazing ones who still call me on holidays and even on my birthday! But the new local hires have been so spoiled that as the immigration guy said to me today “ You brought this on yourself “ and you must set boundaries and strict work guidelines as expected by your own boss... and not a charity! I have decided NO more live in house maids for me, so will be trying part time agency maids daily for 4 hours a day. Wish me luck! I struggle to understand why you employed someone for a year and a half who drove you dotty and you had zero respect for, did you think she was going to have a personality change or something? Why did you put up with it for so long when it was such a toxic relationship? What drove you to keep her after the first year or month?

To the OP i would text you maid and ask her to come and sit and talk the whole thing through. One has to consider that poor communication is a major factor that possibly lead to such events? Not necessarily - some of the maids over here are not the sharpest knivees in the drawer and very naive to boot - highly influenced by "aunties" who encourage them to run on the promise of all that glitters - many housemaids seem to think that they are being "cheated" and that they are entitled to earn 30- 50 aed per hour. Wouldn't assume that just because they run they are being abused by madam etc. Well more fool the employer for employing dull knives then? Surely when interviewing someone you can figure out how sharp the knife is? I did not assume anything, I suggested that in order for another to run the said individual possibly must be pretty unhappy and perhaps communication was not great within the relationship. The employees always seem to take the blame, perhaps rather too easily? I am suggesting that perhaps employers also have to consider the possibility that their own actions or lack of them may have contributed to such a situation? Just throwing it out there for fun!! ie did the employer when they look back see signs but miss/ignore them and not deal with them at the time as they had no idea that ultimately things would take such a turn? <em>edited by Lolacat on 27/08/2014</em>

DS has just completed GCSEs at WSO we couldn't be happier ... Moved him from DESC - he loves it there and going to do IBCC next year - we have no doubts it has been a great school for our son. WSO have had exceptional results in GCSE this year, higher than their expectations, don't discount it Hope this helps Wow they have a full breakdown of their results already? What are exceptional and higher than expectations actually mean in real terms?

Thank you for your comments and advice. I think you have confirmed what I thought already about the Range Rover - that the cost of servicing and parts out here is just too much. So I will discount that. And any other Land Rover brand. I had wondered about those FJ cruiser doors.......I will try and give one a test drive and see what the blind spots are like. I had originally considered a Pajero, but I think about 80% of people at work have one. Obviously for a reason - you can sell them! I just think they are slightly dull........ Here's the thing...........a new Paj is a far better investment than a second hand A, B or C. Unless you can afford a lambo or an E type who cares what it is as long as it gets you from A to B safely and doesn't cost you a fortune in repairs. Put your sensible hat on and spend your money wisely.

What about looking at an HR position in a school, or look at the GEMS network they have a few non teaching jobs on their website.

Be sensible and don't waste money on a car, look at a Pajero. If you buy new they are great price and second hand you can pick up some excellent deals. Older cars that you fancy will be out of warranty and will be extremely costly within a few years to repair.

Oh god its horrible isn't it?? First thing to do is get a siege mentality on. Make a list of all the schools from the KDHA website that you can apply to and just contact every school. Then next to the list of schools write down their responses in terms of waiting lists. Then do your homework with regards to the areas and get a feel for each school. You may need to apply to 2 or 3 (could be expensive) and then your children will need to sit assessments and hopefully you will know then. I would like to say its easy but its not. One woman I know actually did a spreadsheet of the schools and the answers she would receive back but not all schools do reply so you may need to do some phoning around. If you are thinking of living in or around the al warqa area, the headmistress of my children's school has recommended to me Dubai English Speaking College as a comprehensive. She told me that she was really impressed by the head of the school and the schools ethos. Its around academic city so shouldn't be too far to travel if you decide to live around the area. However, it depends on whether your husband is willing to travel to work. If he is then I would suggest to look at the comprehensives around the Al Barsha area is 2 new comprehensive schools opening which is Nord Anglia (looks very impressive to me and I'm hoping to get my son registered there for next year) and also Kings Al Barsha which is opening as well. There's also a big blue Gems school there as well which I think is new. Also not very far from Al Barsha is Victory Heights Primary and is about a 10 minute drive away (if you're thinking of doing the school run yourself). Good luck with your move and we've all been there with the schools. I don't want to rain on your parade as obviously you have posted to be helpful, but bar DESC none of the schools you have mentioned take year 10. The OP Year 10 is her priority and school availability at this late stage and the RIGHT school are extremely limited. In the case of seniors you find the school and work out where to live afterwards. Year 10 in the British curriculum is the first of the most important years. Also the OP is not looking for IB schools as her son is coming from a BC. The schools you have mentioned may be possible for her youngest and that is about it. Personally i believe the OP to be most sensible in her decision to wait to find the RIGHT school rather than rushing in and placing her kids in anywhere that has availability, this is a very very wise course of action bearing in mind her year 10. DESC is not a comprehensive it is a selective school with a high academic, pastoral and sporting ethos.

Moorfields for eyes, just google Moorfields Dubai. Dentist, Dubai London clinic dental centre are excellent with kids, on Al Wasal road. Doctors, good GP, Healthbay poly clinic mirdiff or Al Wasal. Seek advice from GP re neuro and other specialists. Some practices have specialists on site linked to clinics. Rashid Pediatric centre and Senses Dubai may be able to assist further. Search posts on here and google.

I have to admit i really do not get the whole ice bucket challenge. Celebrities from A list to Z list taking/having pictures of themselves getting an iced bucket of water over their heads, seems pretty pointless. The tabloids and media are full of the latest celebs participating. Although i have to say watching Jeremy Clarkson's response was quite amusing! On the positives it has driven charity donations up by huge amounts 1000's of percent and this can only be a good thing. (as well as free media attention to said charities) The challenge was to donate or endure the ice bucket, so it seems peculiar that soo many celebs have opted for the ice bucket, hopefully they have donated as well. The focus seems to be on getting wet rather than giving? The question is how much money donated actually goes to charity rather than administration etc? Is it a sad reflection on society that in order to raise money for charity celebs have to be flung all over the media having a bucket of water over their heads. It all seems rather sad really in someways when so many dedicate so much on a daily basis yet go unnoticed. It's a funny old world. I'm just not sure what to make of it all.

Thanks lolacat. We do have school allowances for 2 kids. Thy are following British curriculum. My son is doing French . They don't mind moving. Yes I m aware of the cost of living and the school My main problem is finding right school this late. Specially my son will be starting his gcse. Any feed back on WSO edited by Coco14 on 23/08/2014 It would not be my choice. The schools i listed are established and have proven results and always have good feedback. Jumeriah College is another you could try but tbh you are going to really struggle for year 10. Secondary schools (BC) are thin on the ground comparative to primaries. It really does matter in getting it right. There are some other schools but again they would not be my choice. The non profit schools are always hard to get into. There is also a site called which schools Dubai that could help. Another possibility is Nord Anglia for your younger two, it is a new school opening in September. French is a popular choice here so that should not be a problem for year 10 options. Another option is leaving him in uk with family for continuity or boarding school in the UK. You need to call every registrar and see if anything can be done.
