I would not recommend that you get a rescue dog if you have small children as you do not necessarily know how the animal has been treated. That's a terrible unfair statement Izzy - you constantly bash rescues! Not ONE person I know who has a rescue dog has ever had issues with theirs. ANY dog can become aggressive for ANY reason. I've known pure breds from breeders though who have turned out to be lunatics and complete nightmares! Both of you have points, I know loads of rescue's that have gone seriously wrong and i too would be very cautious about an older rescue with no previous history around young children. All dogs can go wrong. Anyone thinking of getting a dog should seek professional help and only find one that meets their needs not a dog that looks sad in a pet shop or kennel or one that needs a home desperately.

I looking to buy a puppy suited for apartment living, where should I look? You can go to any pet shop here and buy a lovely cute puppy for an extravagant amount of money, many people do it. Morally and ethically you decide whether this is a path you wish to choose. You can go to a rescue organisation and also adopt a puppy, again you can decide if this is for you. Alternatively get a goldfish and see if it fits into your daily life.

I must have been imagining all the children from all the expat families that I knew :-P The beauty of a forum is to ask for differing opinions. Saudi is a hard posting, adding older children into the mix needs to be thought about in great depth IMHO. I do not agree with your thoughts.

QueenL, assuming I live in a large compound (like Arabian Ranches let's say) would I be able to drive within the walls?! You can not drive anywhere! I'm sorry but i would think very very hard about taking children of the ages you mentioned. Small children yes, a 10 year old used to living in Canada i would think very hard about, most expats send their children out around this age not bring them in. The offer on the table needs to be amazing you also need to consider the commute option.

You should sack your driver because if his reaction and prediction skills are that poor to a small mutt taking a wee nip how can you trust him driving on the roads here? That's a bit harsh. Some cultures here have a belief that a dog is the dirtiest of animals- so to be bitten by one may upset someone more than those of us used to dogs. I did not mention that, i mentioned reaction times.

The subject is far too emotive for you to get an objective opinion on this forum. Better to look at raw data on the schools' website or an unbiased review website. I would start with pupil numbers, class sizes, exam results and the availability of sport and music activities. Different schools are better for different kids. But there lies the problem, what data? Which results? I'd look at the fees! How can any review website be unbiased? not possible. To be honest We more to the fees, if the education are similar why should we choose the expensive just because the prestige and high end building. So more info will be appreciated please. Thanks DBS gets good results

You checked off 2 out of 65 on this list! What! You don’t hate people at all. You might even like them. That’s gross, but you’re probably very well adjusted and pleasant to be around. Maybe even… **shudder** …a people person.

I'm one of those people who holds strong opinions and am prepared to give them about dogs. If you died at home and your dog was there what do you think would happen? To quote Stuart Lee, educated British stand up comedian, your dog would 'eat you'. Dogs are not part of the family, they are animals with animal instincts. As Stuart says, as far as your dog is concerned, you are meat, with a voice. Nothing makes me angrier than pet lovers. Sorry. Pet lovers make you angry, as in generic any one who likes/has any form of pet?

What about a collage of photo's from their time together in a stand up format shape (prism etc). Or something along those lines?

Thanks everyone, really appreciate all these suggestions. The problem is not in the house, it is as soon as she steps outside, even in the middle of the day. They just find her! She likes to enjoy the sun and sunbathe and it's just not possible! Presently on antibiotics and antibiotic cream for the bites she has already endured! It's really horrendous the reactions being suffered. Even with long clothes on they are attacking her. Yet no one else is being bitten, it is truely bizarre and never in all these years happened before! I will try the Ad Venture HQ bracelet, mossie net and the VIt B sounds good as well. edited by Lolacat on 21/04/2014

That said, I did take away something very nice from this thread. Its never occurred to me to freeze ready meals for DH when I went away, and with little children this was just impossible but now that the kids aren't so much in my hair, I think its something lovely to do and which I *may* try. I know the feminists would not be happy with that confession. Just cook a little more than normal at each meal, and freeze the left overs in one meal portions for DH to nuke while you are away - you don't even have to go out of your way to do it :D Another brilliant idea - EW is the fountain of wisdom that keeps giving obv! Tbh I don't cook anything extra - he lives off all the scrappy bits of tupperwares full of just too much for one meal and not quite enough for two !! lol We all do it - any casserole etc left over we freeze but it's rarely enough to make more than one decent meal and because I cba to cook lots of different dishes at the same meal time they get left in the freezer... so in addition to an empty ironing basket I come home to an almost empty freezer too !! lol can you send him to me - can empty my freezer and do my irnoning..... am actually contemplating gettign an additoinal chest freezer as i run out of space :( Izzy, i think a guest would prefer a bed or even a sofa rather than a chest freezer! lol

Don't think they will reverse it though but they said they will file a case now and I forwarded the no. of the caller. Hope they won't get another victim... You must inform the police and Du this is a very common scam and many have been caught out, I have a dear friend who fell for this for a lot more than you! It was unbelievable, but her's was with the other supplier and they had her personal details. The police take it very seriously.

I think there are plenty who would take issue with SAHM being a luxury !! Sorry TDB but have you ever heard the saying, when in a hole, stop digging ?? lol Having the choice not to work is a luxury. For you maybe, but many are able to make it happen.... Put the shovel down :D Sorry I'm very busy and important at work, shouldn't you be mopping the floors now Cinderella :D I'm sure you are, but not too important to sit around insulting strangers, I see :D Daily! I've barely been on for weeks actually and this is why! Since the stars and ratings, EW has descended into a b1tchy playground of Mean Girls anonymously down thumbing each other and starting pointless cliquey threads to gain stars. I don't sit around insulting strangers - I'm entitled to an opinion but since sometimes it conflicts with the vibe of this board then the easiest thing is to shoot someone down in flames and mass bully them into submission. And where did I ever say SAHMs don't work?? I've pointed out repeatedly that they work extremely hard - but just for mums on here to consider the shoe on the other foot and to count themselves lucky that they have the blessing of not HAVING to work and being able to watch their kids grow up. That is all. Now sharpen all your collective claws and have a go. So as usual you are entitled to your opinion but no one else is entitled to theirs? If anyone dare to critic toys get thrown out the pram. If i wrote that mums who work are doing a disservice to their husbands and children i should expect differing opinions in reply. If you make a comment then be prepared to have others disagree or voice another in response.

Not always, sometimes it is financially more viable. Also until you have ever been a full time SAHM it's outrageous to suggest they do not work.

When I was younger someone used to say something to me that has stayed with me "I complained about having no shoes, until I met a man with no feet." sounds apt in this regard. Perspective is everything. Sadly "they" still won't get it, "they" as in "me, myself and I".

No problem Doubting Thomas - wish we could afford to fly Business! Busybee2 - The whole point is that Emirates offered a better service than the other airlines by allowing sports equipment free. That has been taken away so the only advantage of flying Emirates is............. One of the best safety records in the world, if not the best, best maintained planes, extremely well trained pilots (best) great food, hardly ever suffer big delays (unlike another regional I could mention) great code share partners, excellent air miles program, great service on board and ground, fantastic lounges, new planes, competitive fares.

I was talking about this issue with the cleaner in our building who earns 400 dhs a month and hasn't seen his family in three years. He was just as shocked, and agreed that if he ever earned enough money to fly Emirates, he wouldn't, just to make a point. Is this a poor attempt at being humorous? Or are you trying to make one of your points?
