I'm so glad you did not use another analogy for puddycat, it could have become very awkward. Hmm, it seems so, but how pray tell do new posters with hardly any posts get stars? Conspiracy theory?

My DD goes to a known British Curriculum school in Dubai. It's almost end of Year 2 and she does not know how to read simple words like Would, could, tough, awful… not only that she is not able to process what she is reading and tell say the take out. She is a very smart one, her numeracy skills are excellent, but you would expect a minimum level of reading and writing at her age, given the huge amount that we pay for education. I spoke to her teacher, n his tip was to get her a tutor! which i ended up doing but what could the poor lady do with her in 3 hrs a week to reach an acceptable level of reading n writing. is there anyone out there in the same situation/ could share thoughts n tips... You can not leave education to any school, reading especially should have been done since a baby in the home. Go to your head of year and discuss your daughter and what the school are going to do to help her. If that gets nowhere go to the Head of school and ask why his staff are suggesting tutors for a year 2 child. What a joke that is. If you get nothing back, get KHDA involved.

I wonder about this too, just yesterday I was at the zoo also known as Zara at the checkout and everyone was so gussied up like they were attending a glam event, glossy hair, fake eyelashes (!), sky high stilettos, it all looked very expensive and high maintenance. They don't have kids and school fees! I was under the impression that no one on this forum pays school fees? Or at least the majority don't? Everyone pays school fees in someway, whether it is part of their final salary or out of their in hand salary, either way the employee is paying. The majority i know have an allowance which only covers a proportion.

The woman is obviously barking mad. But that kind of passive aggressive reaction is not uncommon in many internet forum posters, albeit not in quite such an extreme form. Reacting to criticism or even mild disagreement by playing the bullied victim act happens even on here. However to compare herself, even by association, to combat veterans is shameful. Seen it here soo many times!

I was taught a very interesting saying "don't let the beggars grind you down - if they do, do not let them see it has". Thank SJ1968 and everyone whoever thinks I am over reacting. I live in my fairytale world where all people are equal and I don't believe in countries/nationalities. Superior people are those who care for others. Don't hurt anyone by any means, verbally or physically or mentally. One single experience can't change my opinion. So cheers everyone. Words hurt more people everyday than bullets do. Please watch what you say before speaking. I find Prozac helps tremendously in such cases, lol I don't need drugs to be a better person. Probably world's good for others. edited by lilly111 on 17/04/2014 It was a joke.........................if you carry on stressing yourself like this you will need them! Relax, it's the evening, don't let an obviously bad day ruin your weekend.

Seriously sometimes there is nothing worse than a whining client, you are quite correct some people are just very difficult to please. But never lower yourself to their level, ultimately hopefully soon you will be in a strong enough position to decide whether you wish to take their business.

Well this is very interesting to read. I would like to ask Lilly111 why she does not liked to be asked her nationality. Lolacat, when I need some service I do my research before going to them. When I chose one company I would like to know about their projects, photos to show me. Also pricing. when I am Ok with everything and about to decide I can politely ask "so what about staff, where are they from?" Or if they are well trained. I am not annoyed at asking , I am annoyed at the way they ask. I am proude of what I do, who I am and about my country. I am proud of my business and no one in market can match our quality of service and prices. I have wonderful American, westerners and Arab clients who praise me because of customer service and my friendly attitude. Its handful of those beaches** who think only belonging to one part of world can make us successful and that's their country. I understand Lilly, sometimes the customer service industry can be testing, but as infuriating as it is you have to find a way that you can deal with it without it getting to you. In the big scheme of things if someone asks about nationality then that is their issue not yours. You are the professional, you answer and move straight on to point in hand, remaining professional. You never lower your morals and beliefs. In your posts below you unfortunately did that in retaliation to a poster and made some comments that are simply not acceptable. Therefore you placed yourself in exactly the same position as the exact same people who upset you. Don't rise to the bait, always turn such things around by remaining professional and polite. Remove the chips from the shoulders and live your life, don't play the game. (also charge those darlings double LOL) You have great customers, you know you do a great job, you hopefully have your health and family, what more can anyone ask for.

The most successful people in life are ones who remove the chips off their shoulders, the world has some amazing examples of those of many different nationalities who have made a success of their lives wherever they lay their hat (so to speak). LC - I would nominate you for the best posting of the week. Thank you SJ, the cheques in the post! lol

Bareface but the other two are good also. Flexible in what way? You get a call to go to a casting and then if you get it you are offered the job. Ah ok , it's not a contract from the beginning !? Flexible , I mean in time , so if she has a school , exam or sick .. It's ok to cancel it , that's what I mean in the end you know kids kids don't tend to have exclusive contracts with one agency, so you can join more than one. If you are offered the job you have to confirm, if you confirm and then don't turn up, unless your reason for not attending is genuine and serious then it will not be looked upon in good light at all. For castings you can choose whether you want to go or not. Normally a casting call will tell you before the dates of the job, payment and location. Big jobs can have enormous castings, you can ask the agent how many kids going for the job, sometimes they can select say only 5 kids to go to a casting , so you have a better chance of getting the job. edited by Lolacat on 17/04/2014

Agree with LadyBee, completely. Had a good laugh at Lolacat's 'much love' comment but it seems to have vanished. I do think its a sign of the times when relatively new members post such threads and haven't been absolutely stripped to shreds and run squealing, tails firmly tucked, as it would have been in the past. Had to sit on my hands a few times, I mean the cheek of it. Who walks into a guest house and starts dictating how things should be? Height of bad manners. lol And what's with the much love malarkey? Was that a poor attempt at being humorous?

Evening ladies, I have just watched the YouTube link, thank you. Is there a ' special' vaccination we need to give, or as long as our dogs have been vaccinated since birth, they are covered? Just wondering ,if no answer ,I will contact the vet tomorrow. Our dog was born at our house and vaccinated for everything since birth, and always kept up to date, is there something more I should do ? Is it still ' safe ' to walk her? I have never heard of this disease before, it sounds horrendous!!! Then your dog will have been vaccinated with Parvo, it is one of the basics nothing special or extra, so panic not. It's rife as so many puppies/dogs come with passports that state they have been vaccinated, normally taken with a pinch of salt as easily fab/replicated. For new owners who do not recognise a reliable Dubai veterinary practice stamp and signature i would always advise starting all over again. Unfortunate and expensive but gives peace of mind. Parvo is a horrible disease and a killer.

The EW forum will be out of business by people who are put off and stay away due to the chatter and pollution of this otherwise informative forum. Things changed since the introduction of the silly titles, stars and thumbs. And not for the better. Quality over quantity, ladies. Hope the ADMIN will see this as well. Oh, for the ladies who are bored: why don't you open a new post in which you chat away during the day and leave the other posts to be filled with 'quality' posts? Well maybe you should take your views to the EW management teams who have implemented an exciting new strategy (and no doubt costly) to encourage new members and others to post more and keep the forum moving.

I did read the original story of the poor paramedic and although terrible enough that the focus of the story was of the non-repatriation of his remains, I did think then surely there is much more information that should be diffused. As you say CW it is something to be aware of - so where is this awareness, what symptoms are we to look out for and should we report to government health facilities etc etc without this there will be the hysterical over reactions as seen by the school notice. A quick google will tell you what to look for.
