For renewals you normally only send photo's and old passport lol Unless it's for a child's passport, in which case a countersignatory is required. You must come close to a stroke when watching something that's actually [i'>funny[/i'> :) on the printed form it was a little ambiguous saying the parent had to prove their citizenship Only for a first application for a child's passport, not a renewal. We sent off our son's renewal last week (we waited until the day the price dropped), and there was nothing on any of the forms about parents having to prove their citizenship. There's no need. All I can think is that you printed out a "first application" form by mistake. She did not need a counter signatory as passport changing from child to adult passport. Cymraes has a sense of humour, well needed in this case. A simple mistake but one now she can chase up on having realized the mistake. Unfortunately i did not see this thread earlier otherwise of course i would have mentioned, but the deed was done. The same could have been said of you as you were going through the same process. Excuse the length in time in responding to you I was recharging my defibrillator having read your incredibly funny response.

It does help to know what cars these are. Two downsides to exporting your cars are: 1. Any warranty you have in the US won't apply here (this will be the case for your new car). 2. If you're still making payments on your new car you may not be allowed to take it out of the country without paying off the loan first. You'd have to read the fine print in your agreement. What I might consider is shipping only the older car and keeping the new car back in the US in storage (if that's feasible at all). At the end of your two year stay in the UAE it'd be easy enough to sell your older car and you would probably get a better resale price for it here than in the US. I don't think cars are any cheaper in the UAE than in the US, including the second hand market. The tax issue/import duties are also another issue that need investigation.

v impressed, if your made has enough room for a double bed. anyhoo, this IKEA one is the cheapest frame for AED195 http://www.ikea.com/ae/en/catalog/products/30185064/ not sure how much the mattress is though, but IKEA is def easier than Dragonmart! Excellent advice, IKEA online all the way.

Maldives gets our vote. We took our 2 children when they were around 4 and 5 and it was without doubt one of the best holidays we have ever had. We stayed at the Hilton Resort and Spa on iru Fushi - it was heavenly. they catered brilliantly for the kids and nothing was too much trouble. they were given a soft toy on their beds which they adored. The kids club was run by a lovely lady called Rose (I have no idea if she is still there) and they loved the kids club. We had a superb holiday because the kids wanted to go to the kids club after breakfast, we collected them at lunch time and spend every afternoon in the water with them. it ticked every single box for us as the best holiday ever. We returned a few times and had equally great holidays there. I was asking my kids last week where their best holiday ever has been (they are super lucky and have been to some amazing places) both agreed that The Maldives was their favourite destination ever........ Kids of today, our generation was lucky to get a day's outing on Brighton Beach!

Oh my goodness, a revolt from certain ladies on how others treat their maids!! Front headline news of the local news. My maid had a double bed and her room was large enough plus a table/chairs,wardrobe, sideboard and cooking facilities. Geez!! So you're the one who started this! I beg your pardon Maroosh?? I just saw stupid responses in respect of a perfectly acceptable question. This is why you don't have any stars!

I am shocked at where this is going. Now other maids will start demanding beds as a part of their package. Can you imagine the uproar, 7 days will be awash with letters! Wait until CW sees this she will be beside herself. This is all very distressing. What will be next? Time off??? Sheets? You need to work out TAX, you will be hit both ways (if you take it back to US), changes that need to be made, ie all tyres and anything else that is required here. Talk to a relocation agent or google for more answers, maybe a motoring forum may know more details.

Oh there are many kids who own mopeds and wizz them around compounds and certain roads. Parents must need to be hit round the head a few times. But when something happens to their little darlings... it will be the poor security guards fault for not stopping them.... no? There will certainly be blame somewhere, but certainly not themselves. Parents of expat teens here are quite unique. For some unknown reason they seem to believe A) their kids B) this country has no repercussions C) they can trust their teens D) nothing will ever happen and of course E) WE did it when we were kids on our grotty estate in some crime ridden area. Depends who the driver was and nationality of passengers. Best to speak to embassy for advice, they often can give advice in such matters and recommend lawyers. Also you need to get copy of police report etc.

Glender you don't need a relocation schools specialist, it's money for old rope. It is very easy to A) google schools, B) contact any forum and ask advice C) google a country group, ie Canadian in UAE. D) Ask at an Embassy or consulate for advice or where to go. Here are some links that may help. http://whichschooladvisor.com/reviews/abu-dhabi/ There is also a Canadian school http://www.cisabudhabi.com/ You need to decide on which curriculum you which your children to follow, some Canadians follow the US system, some British, Some French when there is not a Canadian school available. For British look at Brighton College or Repton AD or BSAK There is also an American school Most schools will have an Admissions page and set out how to enter the school. You can call or email the school's registrar for more advice . A poster on here called Busy Bee is also based in AD, you can always set a new thread up to ask her more direct questions, I'm sure she will be able to answer.

I am probably showing my age, but I trained our Dogs the "Barbara Woodhouse" way! You may feel a bit silly at first talking to your dog in public like this, but dogs really do "get it" with only a a little bit of training. Every time you take your dog out have a pocket full of small treats, and every time your dog actually performs repeat the same words or phrase every time and then give him a treat and praise enthusiastically. Any phrase will do as long as you use the same ones all the time - ours were "busy busy" for a wee and "do it do it" for a poo. Every time he performs give the treat and before long he will associate the phrase with what he's required to do and will soon learn to do his duty almost to command. Our Irish Wolfhound was so well trained by this method she would try to perform on command even if she didn't need to go and would squat and try even if there was no end result, she'd still get praised. Eventually you can cut out the treats as your dog should then be able to recognise what's needed and follow these commands as easily as sit, lie down etc. Everyone in the family who takes the dog out should follow the same routine with the same words to avoid confusion and with a small amount of effort you should get success. That's not BW that is basic puppy training which has been used for decades.

I can not understand why you will not let the dog poop in the garden and just train him to use a certain area and keep in cleaned up daily. Also consider your dog may well have picked up something like Gardia by moving to a new environment.

I haven't been to San'aa (though I was supposed to but that is another story), but there is quite some unrest in Yemen at the moment. So wouldn't go to the mainland. My friend just came back from Socotra and she has been before. Lovely place, I will go with her next time hopefully. I don't think I'd bring kids there though. ***********SOME UNREST*************** Major understatement!!!
