We are not in AD! I personally re register my car every year. Last year i was 4 days over and got a fine of 25 dhs a day. So i would advise anyone not to take the risk of a big fine. really i didnt noticed!!! did you know that if you have axa insurance they will do the registration process for you for free, but of course, maybe that only applies to AD! anyways if its 10dhs or 25dhs a month its hardly the end of the world. and you should be aware as they do sms you it now, so there is no excuses. Do you work for the RTA Busy bee? Please try and accept that you may not always be correct and that there may be ambiguity with this. The registration is annual and as seen on this thread it obviously depends where you go and who is at the counter as to what may occur. I was fined 25 dhs per day for being over the annual date but within the 13 month insurance. <em>edited by Lolacat on 09/09/2013</em>

Thank you all for you advice. We will be starting the process of contacting schools in the coming week. It is also complicated by the fact I'm a secondary science teacher, so will also be applying myself to schools. I have a few schools in mind as current favourites, but difficult when I've not been able to look at the schools yet. Would you advice getting them down on the waiting list for our favourites now, or waiting till me or my husband manages to get out there to look around the schools? You need to find a school that has a primary attached to the secondary and then you will get places easily and logistics will be much easier. To work full time in a secondary and have a primary elsewhere will be a complete nightmare.

There is no grace period on re registering your car, you get charged for every day over the renewal date not the insurance date. To re register you need a new insurance certificate, your insurance company can explain this further.

You do understand that you will have to pay your "nanny" minimum wage, tax and national insurance, as well as tax on her living in the house. You may also have to register and put her on a course as she will be deemed an unqualified child minder. She will also need a criminal records check. There are hundreds of qualified nannies in the UK, the UK needs unskilled unqualified immigrants like a whole in the head.

Well there is a reason she is behind, we had to move to the UK and had to move the kids from french to English curriculum for a year...There was no French school where we were in England. She has now been back in a French curriculum school for a year and she is still struggling to catch up. Off course the school is aware of this matter and this is the reason why she is getting extra private tuition. All these changes have been really hard on all of us, her included... Ok so there is the answer, how you deal with it now is critical. She will catch up but how you handle this now is really important. I suggest lots of positive reinforcement and emotional support. Talk to her about it and her feelings and agree with her that it is really tough and you will do everything to help her and when she feels a bit blue about it to talk to you about it. You must also keep in constant contact with the school and build a really supportive relationship with them, when homework overwhelms then you have to be able to stop and there not be consequences from school. A stressed tired child will never achieve productively. Small steps, positive reinforcement and lots of support and you will turn learning into a good thing not a battle field. good luck.

Here is a few things for you to think about. Why is she behind at school? Have you spoken to her class teacher and asked for her to be referred to the Learning support section for added help within school time? Exactly how much homework does she have? Is she in the wrong school for her individual learning needs? Not all children need or can cope in a highly academic school. What are the consequences of her not doing her homework? What positive reinforcements do you put in when it comes to homework? How is your behaviour when it comes to homework when you speak with her and help her? How much help are you having to give her? Too much and its a pointless exercise. Does she have any dreams of wanting to do something yet? Is the environment she is working in at home quiet and learning based? How much does she see her siblings or parents reading or working? Have you tried positive enforcement techniques such as star charts, rewards? Have you tried using a clock on the table and saying 20 mins focused and then we finish and you have x time to choose a reward? If you don't deal with the issues now in a positive way then you will have real problems by the time she is a teen. Try some things and don't be afraid to seek professional help and support of her school.

2 weeks ago I booked a family holiday to HK and Bali next March. However, I have just found out I am expecting number 2 and I'm wondering whether to try to move our trip. I will be 33.5 - 35 weeks during the vacation. Cathay Pacific accepts a medical certificate up to 36 weeks and last time I went over my due date so I'm not worried about delivering early. I am just wondering if anyone has flown at this late stage and if it is a good idea. The HK part is a family visit whereas Bali will be pure relaxation. I am a fidget bum at the best of times and quite active so I think I will be fine.... thoughts anyone? Tia "I think i will be fine", so why bother posting? It's all about risk, and you can never base a previous pregnancy on the next, so going over your due date is irrelevant. Flying whilst heavily pregnant a risk you need to take? really? Risk of early delivery or complications in a foreign land with possible health care issues, let alone paperwork issues, worth the risk? If you really believed it was fine you would not have posted the question, so there lies your answer that questioning nagging feeling inside is telling you the answer, its really not worth the risk. Does this now mean you will be a SAHM and start posting a different perspective when responding? lol

Unfortunately getting a doctors note on a weekend in the UK is next to impossible. I have no idea what else would be suitable. I don't plan on taking it off the plane so will not be bringing it through customs, except for the medicine ingested. Sounds as if you need far more than a bit of cough syrup! For goodness sake bringing up blood and still hacking your guts out after three weeks? Did you have antibiotics in the UK? (probably not knowing how neurotic they are about handing them out!) Go to the pharmacy at the airport and ask if they have something similar that will do the job, if not take what you need and hand over to pharmacy to dispose of. As soon as you get here get to a GP and get the correct treatment. If you are bringing up blood in truth then you really should see a GP before you fly to make sure you are fit to fly.

something is very very wrong with this case and her lawyers need to be pulling things out of the hat asap or advising a firm who can. If there are any risks to the children's safety she needs to be on this asap with her lawyers. Also don't know how it can be held here as a UK case, that's just bizarre. Daily Mail time and maybe new law firm time? Surely her lawyers can advise more?

LilmissT I understand your frustration and desperation at finding an answer, but EW is not really the place to find an answer. Being stressed is not helping the situation at all. I suggest you go back to the basics and go to a good GP and start the process from the beginning. A good GP can then advise as to who to see, it may well be a good pulmonologist. We can all second guess from a few posts but ultimately you need to find a good GP who will help you make a diagnosis or at least send you in the right direction. Please do not waste your money on alternative medicine, go and see professionally qualified recommended medical doctors. There are some excellent GP's around.

Make sure you get an approved and licensed company out, Jim'll fix it can recommend is required. Make sure you shut all your toilet seats as they may be coming up through the sewerage system. They may well be in your roof or in the walls and that's why you really need a proper company to deal with them. Rats are a serious health risk and whilst they are around you need to be very ruthless about keeping surfaces clean, food products and plates etc covered out of reach of the blighters. You could get a feral cat, but don't feed it!

As always EW ladies you have been so very helpful. Thank you! Looks like it will probably be Warwickshire or Oxfordshire... Somewhere with easy access to the M40. Thanks for helping me narrow it down :) I'm feeling a bit more confident that we will find a good school (especially after recommendations re Oxfordshire). However I believe Oxfordshire is expensive, so housing options would be more limited I suppose. All advice appreciated, especially on the school hunting process! Lovely area, lived there for years. Schools, you have private but if your children are young seriously look at village primaries and offstead reports, some are outstanding and really good. You can easily rent for a while in these areas to get on your feet.

Just had my baby boy 9 days back by a c-section.. At the hospital they gave me a white syrup, which reaaaaally helped me with gases.. DH lost the prescription.. I am in pain.. Anyone of you know any medicine? PS.. baby in NICU, and my days are too occupied, cant see a dr. Please dont suggest that. Lynett congratulations. But i am afraid you have to see your ob if you are in pain 9 days after a c section. Surely your ob or a doctor is available in the hospital your baby is in, have a word with one of the midwives or nurses about how to see someone.

Being a SAHM of 3 without a maid, I feel I really need some "me time"...unfortunately DH does not really help with that. He makes me feel like he is really doing me a favor when he looks after the kids! Needless to say he does get a lot of time to go out with his friends, watch a game etc... What about you? Do you get some time off? What do you do to relax? Are your DH looking after the kids? Train your DH now.

I come from a well to do family back home but from a country where employers here think it's okay to pay ridiculously low salary. Also, most employers ask for UAE experience which is another drawback. DH on the other hand has a very high degree and is in a job which is very sought after and is always getting job offers offering high salary package. edited by taniaa on 18/08/2013 What's a very high degree?

After watching too many episodes of Banged Up Abroad it is obvious this was not an innocent set up, but they were well in the know. I wonder how this will pan out. I've been to Peru and it's pretty ropey outside the main tourist areas, would hate to be in prison there. The chap in the Docu had been caught for around the same amount and was serving 5 years.

No, it's not a fake post to create drama. It's story of my life and it has been so for 3 years now. I agree I have been a spendthrift but since 3 years I have not been so otherwise DH wouldn't let me have the password of his online accounts. Regarding finding a job, I cannot find a job which has a pay of 5k and I don't think working for anything less than that is even worth it. Have you discussed this with your husband?

We have to travel to Canada soon (october) with a 16 month old. This would be the first time i am travelling long distance with baby. previous flight to Istanbul when he was 3 months old was a disaster so we avoided any travel with him. now he is a hyperactive toddler who keeps on kicking and crawling while sleeping too :) this time we are not able to decide as to take a direct flight or a connecting flight. emirates direct flight is for 14 hrs whereas connecting flight varies from 18-22 hrs. any suggestions and your own experience would be helpful. Thanks ladies. edited by angel joy on 17/08/2013 Goodness that's a tough one! Funnily enough i have just done it! As i was in Europe i came back that way but stopped and changed to EK in Paris having flown Air Canada. The overnight rest really was worth it. It also depends which side of Canada you are going to. It's a really tough one, so the best advice is go with your gut feeling and do what works for you.

There are excellent dentists at the Dubai London Clinic dental centre I can recommend Dr. Geoffrey Sharpe as a periodontist and Implantologist, I've seen him and I've have friends who are very happy with him for their gum issues etc. Their fees are very reasonable and less than other well known places i have found. http://dubailondonclinic.com/dental-care/

I love the statement ' are slums really bad?' Well that would depend on you age, experience and perspective really. You also need to understand the culture of the nation you write about, the very strong Roman Catholic influence, laziness of the males, corruption, healthcare, extreme poverty and extreme wealth. Just because someone is from the Philippines does not mean they come from a slum or extreme poverty.

I think the main part is having in place and being really organised about leaving here and closing everything, that can be quite a task. The actual move and children will be fine, they will just think it's a holiday for a while!

I truly would be very surprised to hear that they let anyone go over 40 weeks here let alone 42. In the UK this is very normal and no further action would be taken until 42 weeks when induction discussions would be had. Here however, they give you the choice without (IMO) making people aware of the actual risks of it failing. I know this because I have met at least 3 or 4 people who had a failed induction like me, which is a huge number considering how rare this should actually be. Also, around 7 out of 10 of my birth group had C sections, again, such a high number comparing to the UK. Do your homework ladies, as you cannot rely on the medical profession here to really offer you the same guidance as back home. How long you go over depends on your ob or hospital policy, some hospitals will only allow 1 week over others may allow 2 weeks dependent on the individual. This is both in the UK and here, and as i have had children in both the UK and ME and been induced several times feel i can qualify this based on my own individual findings. I have always been told the risks regardless of country birthing in. C sections cost money, expats have insurance and there may be an argument that money allows choice. When relying on a free service you accept what you are given. Some are quick to knock the NHS, but the ethos and values installed in Doctors during training within the NHS system i believe is second to none and something very unique and special.

These ants are a nightmare to get rid of. First i suggest you lay a trap for them, put some smarties or sugar down and watch where they come from and try and track where they go back to. Once you have found the nest (hole) you can either spray some piff paff or use an organic method to try and kill them.
