Forget a bank account, why not buy some bonds? Or do a deal with the school and pay your tuition fees in advance for a discount? Or get your dh to set up a joint savings account? Don't think the OP needed to open a savings account. She just thought it would be an easier way to manage the school payments. Now she can't get her money back from the bank, which has got to he the most frustrating part of the whole encounter. Why can she not get her money back? She can get a cheque made out into her DH's name and bank that, she can also have joint access with her DH on his account and make it a joint account. Where is the problem?

Don't go to City. They failed to spot DD's fractured ankle. That's quite a statement, thousands of patients go to City and have excellent treatment. It's my first choice and i know many who have been and had no problems. Mistakes in medicine happen in all hospitals. to the op without question i would book and see the pediatric orthopod at City, Dr Hemrani. I would also advise seeking at least two opinions and always question and research those who made them. A good GP is often worth discussing the opinons with as well.

I've sat on my hands all day but can't stop myself now.........I can understand why people share their worries on here, it is after all an anonymous forum with the advantage of a lot of differing inputs, but I have to say this to anyone who posts in response................please post what you would actually DO in the situation, rather than what you would LIKE to do. The two are very very different, and please remember you may be dealing with people in a vulnerable state. The hardline " take no prisoners" attitude in some responses, on this and on other similar threads. could prove very dangerous, please remember it is just a forum topic to you, for the OPs it is their LIFE. Quite agree LT, but don't you find it a little unusual that quite so many of such similar type threads keep appearing? Of course with the guaranteed results in responses. Why does no one ever post the simple answer to all these posts? Sit down and talk with your husband about your feelings? All of these issues are communication issues yet no one points out the obvious *communicate*! Why on earth are such posts put on a public forum, how devastated would a partner be if they knew? Let alone the ideas that are being put through heads. Just because the odd poster has experienced a vaguely similar scenario does not mean that every thread posted that may be comes into that range has the same result.

A lot will depend on your budget, but any where from Warwickshire to Oxfordshire could work well, there are some lovely villages with some outstanding state schools. For medical, Oxfordshire is superb. For train links into London, check rail networks and costs.

Is this question being asked from a religious perspective or an insecure marriage one? Maybe posters should state their nationalities and religious beliefs before anyone answers their questions in future to save needless debate.

It's a big no. It's totally unacceptable in my book for anyone with children using a pool to be under the influence of anything, regardless of culture, religion or nationality. Is it really that difficult to spend social time with others without a drink on hand?

The case reported is very sad and should anger everyone, however sadly this is not the first nor will be the last, one fears. What astounds me is that many parents seem to accept risks that are unacceptable both by their own choices and by others that care for their children. I often see young children out alone in our compound, the mind boggles at what the parents think, that is of course presuming they actually do! I would be interested to know from parents if their schools have male cleaners walking around with access to all areas during the school day ? And if they find this acceptable. edited by Lolacat on 25/07/2013

Depending on where you are based you could ask EW for some recommendations. Once you have found a practice then call and ask if they do direct billing with your Insurance provider. Second Dr Nicola Dreamer and also the two Dr Gilbert and Moran at DSO medical centre, also some good British trained GP's at Motor city and I think AR .

AP? Are posters suggesting that parents actually buy a book and follow it like an instruction manual in order to raise a baby? Oh my word no wonder there are so many kids in therapy and parents on anti depressants! Disfunctional attachment, what the buttons is that? Seriously i've never read and understood anything less in all my days. Over the years i've read som stuff on this forum but this thread continues to baffle me. All this nonsense about disciplining a BABY. Even after several posts the OP comes back with "He needs to be taught discipline but for now 1-2 minutes timeouts would be fine.he doesn't listen if I say something just carry on screaming." Taught discipline? You don't need to teach it, it's just there! It's been made very clear that children of this age do not understand consequences, discipline, action statements and Time out, yet still you post that 1-2 minutes is ok. The reactions you are seeing are from communication issues, your child does not understand what you want or are saying because he is a BABY. Why is your child screaming? You need to pre empt situations and learn positive distraction techniques (ie "Oh look over there, WOW"!) and embrace a get on with it attitude, ignoring any upsets and carrying on. Make an issue then an issue will be made! Talk about making mountains out of mole hills, this is a 14 month old baby, wait till you have a 6 ft strapping teenager to deal with, you think time out will work then?

angel joy .... Lola cat has hit several nails on the head..........let me add this......... Most importantly - your little one is a BABY. His little brain is operating at less than that of a poodle's...............he doesn't even know where he ends and other people begin. He certainly can't make the connect on an intellectual basis between his behaviour and your response, he has no idea about consequence and even less about remorse....... but he is picking up on one thing, he feels puzzled and afraid.....because he knows that you are feeling the same............ he knows you haven't got a clue. And that may very well be why he is acting up (although it is impossible to tell whether he really is, or if you just have unrealistic expectations). Please throw away whatever book it is that you are reading, Attachment Parenting is an unproven concept developed in response to "Attachment Disorder". which is a condition sometimes observed in children who have had truly traumatic relationships with caregivers. Crazy as in mad or alcoholic, or uncaring as in Eastern Bloc orphanages. It doesn't happen in normal families. To base a child rearing technique on a set of adverse circumstances is junk parenting advise. It's on a par with taking Vitamins to prevent cancer. Stop reading up on how to "Be a parent" and listen to your own mother, or aunts, and your own memories. Use your own instincts, use a little common sense.................if he is doing something dangerous (like sticking his fingers in a socket etc) or destructive.......... use a tiny tap on the hand and a firm NO.......same if he pinches another child's toy, or whatever...........and please let him loose amongst other children, if he does kick up around them it is probably because a) he's totally puzzled at the fact there are other little people in the world, and b) he is picking up on your anxiety. What you are doing now is worse than useless, if you keep it up, ie the withdrawal of yourself.... .once he begins to understand that you are using that as a punishment, that if he is "bad" Mummy goes away......... you really might end up with a disturbed and angry little boy.....with real Attachment Disorder. (When he is a little older you can try the "time out" approach but in my opinion that is only really effective with tantrums from a child old enough to be self aware, gives them time to calm down without losing too much face.) Children really need above anything to feel SAFE, they need boundaries but most of all to know that Mummy is in charge and knows what she is doing, even a tiny baby will pick up on parents' lack of confidence.............and if it helps, in my experience children are a lot more resilient than we think. The most damaged human beings I know are those whose parents were scared of doing the wrong thing................just be consistently loving, and remember that a tiny smack on the hand and a firm no.......much as you would do with a puppy, will serve well enough until they are able to reason.....then it's a whole new ball game but then you just have to be smarter than they are, and a whole lot more patient! Excellent post LT , well said.

I have sat on my hands with this thread but now............ Firstly you stated YOU HOLD [b'>HIS[/b'> EARS, not you hold your ears which would make zero sense anyway. What on earth would you hold your ears for? Secondly, unless your child is on a spectrum then i feel from what you have posted these are learnt behaviours, so where is your child learning to behave like this? Who is around your child, how are they behaving when around him? IMHO 14 months is far to young to even comprehend what you are requesting, consequences and actions come at a much later age. I am quite horrified that anyone should need to put a 14 month old baby in time out, let alone force them to say sorry and not speak to them for 5 minutes. AP has zero to do with what you are seeing now, however, it has everything to do with how you are responding and educating your baby. I would suggest you enroll in some parenting classes and totally change your expectations and most of all sit back take a deep breath and look at where issues are occuring and how you can change your reactions or prevent them happening in the first place. Many mothers who are experiencing problems, or with their first born, they believe they are not normal and brighter than others, but the truth is they are normal and what you are experiencing is a perfectly normal child who is moving and growing from being a wee baby to a more independent toddler. You really need to move away from this concept of baby is doing something bad, and needs to be punished mentality. From the description your child is extremely frustrated and copying behaviours, why? edited by Lolacat on 26/06/2013

Can anyone recommend a pet shop in Dubai, I am looking to purchase a puppy in several months time. I know there are several rescue center's, however due to previous experience I would rather have a puppy with no previous owners. Any advice would be great. There are puppies born here in some of the rescue organistationswho have not been pre owned. I would look at K9. If you have a large budget then import from UK, OZ etc from an ethical breeder. There are no guarantees buying for a pet shop that the animal does not have *issues*. I have often seen animals in pet shops that already show signs of mental anguish and behavioural issues from being taken away from their mothers too young, mis treated, caged 24/7, not litter trained, not socialised........the list is endless.

I have waited twiddling my thumbs, in many a waiting room for a Dr. , but all have acknowledged the delay and apologised immediately. Just recently I waited an hour for an orthopaedic Dr. at Medcare, and the secretaries could not fill me in on when he would be available, but when he did show up, he was more than apologetic, explaining that things had just snowballed for him since the morning etc. etc. I was already getting a bit antsy and was about to leave when he finally showed up and he apolgised profusely, explaining that things had just snowballed since his first appointment that morning. If he had not even acknowledged that I had waited for him that long, I would have been irritated and certainly would have reminded him about the long wait. I think at the very least the OP's Dr. should have acknowledged the delay and apologised, her reaction to the patient pointing it out to her is certainly over the top and not acceptable. But did you tell him he was late and you had been waiting?

If it makes you feel better I would have felt the same. Regardless of her day she should have been more professional and less aggressive, especially to an emotional pregnant woman. As a Dr she probably does encounter lots of emergencies and patients that need immediate attention but her staff should have communicated with you better and she should have been more understanding as your time is also valuable. She is a professional and she should have conducted herself in a professional manner. You could sleep on it and give her another chance, it could have been a one off but if you feel you can no longer be comfortable with her caring for you then definitely source another Dr. Hormones are funny things, you might feel less agitated by the whole situation tomorrow x you are absolutely right, but the thing is, each time i remember the situation, the only thing i feel is her arrogance which really puts me off even going to see her. Her arrogance? lol

You are correct, thank goodness for the majority of people this will not happen, but what if, just what if you, me or anybody made that fatal mistake. We are only human at the end of the day and not perfect....... I would like to think that I would never leave my child in a car but as Pikachu pointed out, neither did the people it happened to. She's confident and seems to have natural talent for acting so looking for something that she will develop within. I'm also looking for feedback from other companies, like Diverse Coreography and Hayley's comet. I have heard positive feed back from both of the above (DS and KTW) and personally think DC is fantastic. DC incorporates dance and voice. Have no info on Hayley's comet but they have a summer camp soming up so may be worth a try. DC also have 2 weeks of amazing summer camp open to all, so may be a good intro?

You know we (generic) are very spoilt in Dubai. Sometimes we (generic) need to walk in the shoes of another, take a deep breath and think about things a little more before we put our own individual needs and wants first. One has no idea as to how the morning had run for this human being, she may well have had to deal with some horrendous emergency or tell someone they had 3 weeks left to live. 45 mins with all due respect is not a long time in the big scheme of things to wait to see a busy proffessional. I never mind waiting to see a Doctor i respect and trust, it's worth it and a doctor who will spend the time with a patient when times are tough is like finding rocking horse manure. So my advice to you, is relax, what is has been and move forward and enjoy your pregancy. edited by Lolacat on 10/06/2013

There has been afew of these incidents over the last 5 years since Ive been here, so I wonder why this tragic accident will change the way parents think!!!! But these tragedies aren't about the way parents think. The articles illustrate that over an over again these awful deaths aren't the result of conscious negligence. The point is that the amygdala works in a certain way & we can't really change that. Using discussions like these to raise awareness about hyperthermia, the horrific potential consequence of leaving a child in a car, is surely helpful in reducing the frequency of such events. Personally, I know that I've been utterly paranoid about this after watching the Opera episode on forgotten baby syndrome some years ago. I am so very grateful for that knowledge. These tragedies are about they way parents think? because if they had a thought and just took the little fella out of the car, then this wouldnt of happened, surely. This is only my opinion thou. Reading this story has really upset me, had many discussions about it since Friday, just heartbreaking. edited by salsB on 10/06/2013 I can not even imagine how any parent can forget a child is in the car in the first place!

mortgage is in both our names so it's difficult for me to get either council house or the social to pay my rent because I own a property. If he would put mortgage solely into his name then I could access benefits. To sell it, we both need to sign and when we got the offer last year, he point blank refused to sign. Re paying the mortgage - he's not British and probably has no intention of ever moving back to UK so I've been paying cos I'm worried they come after me. I have always dealt with everything financial as he's refused to take any interest. This is why Dubai has been stressful as everything is in his name and I have to chivvy/hassle/nag to get anything paid etc. Yep, I'm supposed to be intelligent, resourceful etc so it's mad how I've allowed this to happen. Then he has to sign the house over to you and place in your name. You need to seek UK legal advice, start divorce proceedings asap. If you can prove that you have been funding the mortgage he wil have little choice but to sign over or buy your half out. Get advice, the right legal advice and change your life now.

? Seek legal council over whether you can just sign the house and mortgage over to him right now, walk away from it. Look hard and fast for a job in a private boarding school as a matron or councillor, ( i gatther this is your area). Look all over the UK and the world and see if you can get a package, housing and edcation for your girls. Don't worry if it's in Timbucktwo, you need a job and benefits for now! Or look here but I doubt you will make enough to educate 2 kids TBH. Redesign your holiday, people in debt or about to be, don't go on holidays. Sell your furniture here and as another poster said, BEG the school for your refunds back, go to governors, GM, Head, you name it, do it! Get as much cash together as you can now, cut out anything that you don not need right now and start saving. edited by Lolacat on 01/06/2013

You can divide the responsibilities but need to communicate in order to do that and there is the crux of the issue, neither of you are prepared to address your communication issues. One step at a time, get it right acceot each other weaknesses and find a resolve and the rest will be doable.
