My son felt safe and liked his"aunty" very much, so he was happy, the maid had her room for her stuff, so during the day they each had their own space. Our maid was not a stranger but part of the family. I understand that it's not the way in Europe but many children are brought up this way all over Asia and Africa and it is really OK. I feel that my kids are safe with the maid sleeping with them, the maid is happy, the child goes to bed easily, has no nightmare, I immediately know when he is sick and we, as parents, have our privacy. Yes many families co sleep you are correct. The word here being families not an employee. As for privacy, what's the point of having children if someone else is mum?

Can you take it to the vet for a check up ?Here kittens are often small and look younger than they really are because of the poor nutrition.The ear clip would be quite obvious. If it is a female, the incision is on the side and fur would have been shaved. If it is a boy, you don't really see the castration to be honest. It looks like your kittie may have cut himself. FJ, this is what is wierd, it looks like a spay but i can not think why anyone would spay a kitten and release it this young and light of weight. I've just checked the FF site and they say they TNR at around 5 months, this kitten is about 6 weeks. Just the top of the ear is off but looks cut, will take it tomorrow if i can get an appointment as will need worming etc.

Well one of my kids brought home a kitten tonight that has a small cut off the left ear and a cut under its tummy, it may have been spayed?? But its very young and light of weight, so I'm wondering why it be caught spayed and released. There's no way it will survive long by itself, one of its litter mates has already been run over. But i also noted this am the FF van parked in the area, maybe a co incidence. <em>edited by Lolacat on 01/05/2013</em>

Hi, thanks for your replies...not sure what factory style means? I checked availability for Repton and they have spaces in years 1 and 2 according to them. There are some new schools opening up that may be worth looking at as well.

I for one dread to have the rating pegged upward to an Outstanding, it just gives some schools the go-ahead to hike up fees and make those on waiting lists lives' a misery. Outstanding rating - great for the school, not so hot for the parents. Fee hikes occur regardless of rating it seems.

There's an irony here that schools who have gained the same grade year in year out (under an outstanding) appear to fail to learn and improve. Which considering they are educational institutions is a little worrying? I wonder if the same same attitude is taken over their students’ progress. A little too comfortable in their slippers?

Oh glad you found it, it's really well done and if you google this mans name and autism you will see he is trying to put a film together re adult autism in the middle east and bring awareness etc.(certainly something i had never thought much about!) I know this is a subject close to your heart and you may wish to investigate further, i was overwhelmed by his passion for this subject.

I just heard this am that a previous client of mine who i worked with closely for several years has died. She leaves 3 children under 5 and was just 40. WHY? She died because she refused anything but holistic treatment to treat her diagnosed breast cancer. She could have had a chance and her children could be with their mother now had she not been so obsessed by homeopathy and living the a health obsessed lifestyle. RIP so sad.

Clairehdp - a very positive post from you and I'm really pleased you are happy with your move back to the UK but you have to appreciate that you are in a far better financial position than many posters on EW. You do not have to work, you have a home in the sun in Spain you visit 2 or 3 times a year so you can escape the cold and rain most have suffered through in the Uk this winter, you can afford to educate your children in lovely private schools and you can afford to holiday back in Dubai. This is a very different life from that many others would have to experience. We made the years that we were in Dubai work for us - we had fun when there but we saved hard and are reaping the benefits of not doing brunches every Friday! We don't go to Spain in the winter we enjoyed the rain and the snow in the UK! I didn't have to work in Dubai - but I did and I did voluntary work too.... How many years were you in Dubai?

It's simply based on money. I'm "elite", purely because of my husband's (not enormous) income and the fact we own property. Well i put rent and i think you will find it's also more to do with who you socialise with and what your follow, ie for me the arts.

Just remember the import rules into OZ are incredibly strict so double check and make sure you declare any food stuffs to customs when you arrive. Never seen formula only jars, staff will get boiled water to make up as and when.

TBH i think 4 is too young to sit through a full production of Swan lake. The tickets also state 5 years is the youngest age allowed. Well, she's nearly five, but in any event, which five year old could sit through swan lake until midnight? It's not midnight its 9 pm if you go to the 6pm show. Thanks Lolacat, but 9pm is still too late for my daughter. I was asking about a matinee show - ie one early in the day. Does anyone else have anything more constructive to say? They don't have a matinee show, what they is the 9 and 6 pm showings, there is a ballet at the Madinat in the next month or so and the Diverse show, your LO may love that if she loves dance. It has a lovely ballet piece in it and def will have two matinees.

It is a difficult choice, and as already said one only you can make. My heart would tell me one thing and my head an other... Good luck with whatever you decide... This is exactly what's happening at the moment with the decision, there does not seem to be a right or wrong one, in the UK I find life easier, never get bored the girls are having a high standard of education and before I get jumped on I feel I can say that as my eldest DD is 8 and has been to 5 different schools between here and the UK (all entirely our fault sort of) and now we have got it right as we all know in Dubai you can't often get the school you choose but the one that can offer you a place. However I know being together as a family is so so important especially when the children are young. Stay where you are and get your DH to travel when he can and you travel when you can, many do it and it works, bottom line you are happy in UK, you have not said that about being here.

well that's the funny thing. When I enquired about the high fee's they just said the fee's had been approved by EHDA. Rather than saying anything about what facilities they will have, class sizes, equipment etc etc, they just repeated that EHDA had approved them.... KHDA................... New schools are always a gamble in my opinion.

Does charging higher fees than the norm mean the standard of education will be better than other schools? The few people i know who were interested were put off by the fees.

Why not ask the British embassy? Why do you think they make all the efort to go into the schools to explain the consequences of breaking the laws here? It's not urban legend, teens who break the law and get caught will be made responsible for their actions and so will their parents. Very naive to think being an expat or teen exempts.

Debt into 6 figures and been going on for over 7 years, more debt moving here. This is no joke, which by now i hope you really understand but does your DH? To me you both have an addiction and need to wake up big time. Ruth has given good advice but you need more advice and need to start learning basic money managment and fast. I hope you and your DH understand that the UAE is not a country to run up any debts and just being here does not escape your UK debt. Basic one oh one. DONT SPEND WHAT YOU HAVE NOT GOT!

Let's keep this in perspective - what we felt here wasn't a quake, it was a tremor. In a place like Los Angeles or Tokyo, a tremor like today's would be considered so small it wouldn't even be worthy of comment. They certainly wouldn't evacuate for something that small, otherwise they'd be evacuating several times a month. edited by Madge_Gustard on 16/04/2013 I agree but the tremor was according to below a 4 or 5, which is something to some. The NCMS also confirmed that the impact of the Iran earthquake on the UAE ranged between 4 and 5 on the Richter scale.

why don't you wipe her eyes yourself and pop her in the sink for a quick wash to freshen her up. It will become a pain to have to book her in all the time. I pop my 2 little dogs in the sink and use some puppy shampoo - give them a little rub down and rinse them. Wrap them up in a towel - towel dry them and a quick flick with the brush and they are gorgeous and smell lovely! It takes 10 minutes top! I do get them groomed probably every 4-5 months for a hair cut and nail trim and they look amazing but there's no way I would take them every week. As you have chosen a breed that does have wet eyes you will need to wipe them every day to keep them clear. ************shock***************do it yourself???????????????????????????????lol

Seriously its a curtain, if it was so precious you should have instructed the maid how to handle it at the start. She did not do it to be malicious so why go on about what you have given her, who cares. It was an accident and i doubt it happened from one time. I think this is a complete over reaction tbh. Why should she be afraid of you? All you have to do is speak in a civilised tone and show her what you want, she's not a mind reader she is a human being.

My nephew and niece are spending the summer with me in Dubai as i cant get any time off! Trying to keep them busy. How long are the summer camps in July usually? have any of you signed up already? are there any for singing/acting/dance? like musical theatre? How much is it? and where, and how long? Arh the perfect camp for them is run by http://www.diversechoreography.com/ , send them an email for their dates. It's a brilliant camp comprising of dance, musical theatre and much more, highly recommended. Just letting everyone know that i noticed the new Al Zahra Hospital off SZR is (finally) now open. I used to attend their clinics years ago when I first arrived and had good experiences. I hope we get some good feedback in time as it would be nice to have another center on this side of town. I've heard they have a state of the art facility and good things about them, yet to try but on the list.

You have to determine what sort of bite your DD are getting. rule out fleas, very unlikely. Is it allergy to washing powder? Mossies, a plug in the wall thing will not deter all mossies. Bed bugs check the mattress and bed for them. <em>edited by Lolacat on 10/04/2013</em>

I don't think there's a problem with bleach. You just put a small amount and run your dishwasher. just like running the wash. if you let non diluted bleach sit of course it will est through plastic or rubber but i dont think OP did that. I prefer baking soda and vinegar for a natural clean, some of us don't want anymore sprays or chemicals. I'm so over boxed food, sprays etc. Well if you use tablets i can not see the need to clean the inside of a dishwasher, it gets washed, cleaned and then steamed dry, why re clean it? Isn't this taking cleaning to obsessive?
