Sorry I don't like the design at all, too much of a jumble colorwise and the Arabic looks like its striking the English out. They could have done much better. Talk about being contrary! Striking the English out? Lucky to even have English on the plates!

Thanks Lolacat. I definitely second yours and Victoria M s opinions. The ethos is completely different and more child -Centric which essentially is what I'm looking for. But then not all non profits get outstanding. Should a decision be based on these ratings or what you actually see and believe in. edited by Champs1 on 29/12/2014 Wrote you a long response and then thought best not to post. You have answered your own question really, go for what feels best to you for your child/ren. Take the ratings and look at the reports carefully. Where were the downfalls, will those downfalls be of any detriment to my child’s welfare or learning? As far as i am aware, most of the BC non-profits that we discuss here gained outstanding, which ones were you referring to that did not? I do not drag through all the KHDA reports, just look at the ones that interest me! Lol From my own experience I can see a big difference between the ones we have attended.

Ideally you find the school and then find your living. However, sometimes that idealistic plan goes wrong if you move schools, which many do or rent increases force a move. Distance is not so much the issue as traffic, and when i say traffic i mean it! Certain routes can become very slow and painful. Schools can be located together or not have enough parking, therefore the whole procedure can add extra time on what should be a simple exercise. A 10 min journey on a Friday morning (day of rest, little traffic) can be a 45 minute journey on a week day. The roads here are driven by many nationalities and therefore bumps tend to happen quite a bit, blocking roads to snail pace. Driving the school runs can be quite exhausting and time consuming, especially when you have several children with different hours, or in different schools. So find your school and then look at housing and also factor in if the school is running buses and after school activities and the time frames those take place in. The major routes will certainly have heavy traffic, also areas connected to the canal project will be slower. :thinking: <em>edited by Lolacat on 29/12/2014</em>

Yep. Amongst other reasons as outlined above. Too many high schoolers lurking in the shadows here. Shame though as there are a lot of decent people on here who stop posting as they also wish not to be associated with the childishness. Oh i just thought it was because it is so boring and slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Whatever works for the individual, shame though as you bring so much to the forum.

Money gets poured back into the schools and the ethos is different. IF you have the choice then look very hard about it, yes.

This thread is interesting and educational. Can i ask why you chose mole mapping or was this following on from a consultation with a dermatologist? I've always had a dermatologist just look over my bod with a light and now I’m wondering about the benefits of mapping comparatively?

who on earth would pay 50 aed per hour for a cleaner? Because they 1) don't know the going rate, 2) like the service provided, 3) go for an elite cleaning company and believe the staff are well looked after if they pay more..........blah blah who knows.

Yes I had 6 sessions for underarm hair and paid full price at an esteemed clinic in Dubai...two months later all the hair has grown back and strong again. Grrrr! Never will I pay full price for lazer hair removal again. Ugh! That has been my worry. All of it came back?? I had my bikini area done 15 years ago, it was quite costly, and only 30% of the hair was "killed." I guess I'll take my chances. I’m pondering how one measures percentage of bikini hair? lol:evil:

If money really is that tight then think hard about cutting your gusset list right down, at least by 50%. What about having a lovely family meal at someone’s house or in a nice restaurant and do a deal with the management for a set price? You can cut costs right down if you look hard enough and plan well enough.

Well I think it comes from differences in education, thinking out the box and all that. British education is based on questioning rather than rote in many areas. Combine that with democracy and there you have why some nationalities have different traits/mind sets to others. Like all differences the educated, intelligent and worldly can embrace, respect and accept those differences regardless of their nationality. It doesn’t mean one is better than another, just different based on their cultural upbringing.

BB will be an absolute nightmare for the next year due to road works on SZR Well it depends, if you are festival city it will be fine but if not....... you may wish to metro in and reside and have the school elsewhere.

As others have posted, it all depends on your allowances. The price variables are huge for schools and housing. Also which end of BB you are looking at, the airport end or the Dubai Mall end. For the Airport end you may look at Mirdiff, Festival city, DSO, Garhoud, The Villa for housing and schools in those areas. For the Dubai Mall end you could look at Jumeriah, Al Barsha, Arabian Ranches. When looking at Secondary school look at the after school activities and bus service provided. Some schools have really excellent sporting programs and teams, others don’t. Nord Anglia, DESC, Jess AR, JC, English College, Dubai British School or Dubai College are the main schools British expats tend to favour. There is also a site called, Which school Dubai and the KHDA website which rates schools based on yearly inspections, new schools are exempt for a a while so some schools may not have a rating. The difference between Outstanding and good should be noted. Fees range from 60K per year up, syllabuses are GCSE, IGCSE, both, then IB or A'level. Be aware that your children unless year 10 will have to have Arabic lessons each week, quite a few. These are compulsory. If you are Muslim, your children also have to partake in Islamic studies. Second languages taught in most schools are French, Spanish, German and a few are doing Mandarin. Latin is not available as far as I am aware. To question is a good thing, not something to ashamed of, if certain persons wish to narrow it down to nationality then so be it. Of course DC have a lot of Oxbridge students. They are a long established school with a v selective entry process. I just think Repton are doing well for a relatively new school and they keep on improving every year. I don't know how much sport they do in the senior school sorry. But DESC are not academically selective and they have also had Oxbridge students. I am not sure how long DESC has been going but quite a bit longer than Repton - maybe 9 years. Repton has a lot more students from non-English speaking families. Not much longer but non profit, huge value added, strong management, hard working teachers, outstanding for good reason. Yes a big DESC fan, experienced both, no comparison IMHO.

If any clinic here decides to report you for being pregnant and not married or for dates that do not correspond then they can, how much clearer does this have to be? Why do people keep asking the same question? Because people need to know what actually happens, not what's written on GulfNews. And the point is that no one for sure can say exactly what happens as it changes on a case by case basis, but the worst is not worth the risk for the majority. There is a thread on the bumps and babes where a few said they had faced extreme difficulties with this personnally.

Londiamond, my cousin was one of the police officers at the seige, in what capacity we wont know because he doesnt share too much of what goes on with his work. Needless to say I am proud that he was there to assist in the ending of the situation. I find your comments quite offensive and ill informed. Unfortunately the consequences of a hostage situation are tragic and families have lost children, siblings and parents and this is the same for the hostage taker, I am sure his family are filled with guilt. edited by littleone on 16/12/2014 Lolacat took my comment out of context and dramatized it against me... no surprise. My comment was directed at the joke of the hostage-taker. That he was a joke. Not that the police were. All respect for the police as he said there were bombs.
