Oooooo I have nothing of note to add..... but just to say I worked in Moscow for months on end (on &n off) in the early 90's and loved the place!!! Also loved St. Petersburg (moreso).... I'm sure things have changed since the early 90's .... & I'll bet it is still just as expensive .... but good luck with your decisions, it sounds as tho you have a good package. Enjoy Russia!

How about a nice quality arabic style photo frame? Easy enough to post in a decent jiffy bag and not too heavy. We're currently on the hunt for one to display our fave wedding & honeymoon pics!

Where did you get married DesertPrincess? We just got married at Christ Church Jebel Ali and (for a fee of course) the church registered our docs at the Dubai Courts & UK Embassy for us.........

PS happy to email you a copy of our invite if you want some ideas? If you're not that techy / creative on a computer you could have a print company create for you? We did ours in word then pdf'd it and attached with a nice cover email.

We had a similar dilemma albeit on a smaller scale. We ended up taking the thoroughly modern route and created an electronic invitation (which is lovely!!) and simply emailed to all our guests. Saves on cost, saves the planet with no printing nor transportation and saves on stress! We then printed a few copies onto nice card as keep sakes for ourselves. Might not be your ideal but would certainly save time, money and hassle. HTH

Not really your end of town but Pelins Tailoring in Meena Bazar (nr Satwa) is brilliant (she just made my wedding dress!). She'll source the fabric for you if you know what you're after. Let me know if you'd like her contact info .....

Izzy - you are not allowed to have functioning brain cells, they are in detox mode!!! I'm not in detox mode and I didnt get it ....so you're not alone :-) Hugs for being a brave lass and kicking the evil we*d. x She's on we*d? Why didn't you say? Right party at Izzy's then. Hahahahaha - now there is an evil we*d (tobacco) and a nice we*d.......... I only opted to give up the later due to the fact I live here. A small but very necessary compromise ;) ETA - increased stickability for this thread!! <em>edited by Loopy Lotti on 12/06/2011</em>

Inadvertently locked the key IN the car? ie in the boot? A nightmare I can comprehend having lost the key to my car (when still in London)....total cost was close to GBP 800 for vehicle collection & changing the entire ignition barel, oh plus the cost of 2 new keys. Praying you find your key hon!!!!

We're quite open with our window shopping antics and quite often completely disagree with what is or what is not beautiful / stunning / a dish etc. The biggest compliment OH pays me is by saying 'why go out for a burger when you have steak at home' - bless him, he means well :)

Swils darling, my heart goes out to you, so sorry to hear your news. Despite what Zanie said, I'd actually recommend going straight to the embassy this morning, get there at 7.45 so you're as close as first in the queue when they open at 8am. They'll be able to tell you on the spot exactly what you need to do & if you then need to go to Bur Dubai Police station you have time to do so and then get back to the embassy to complete whatever paperwork is required today. When en route to Bur Dubai call your airline and change the flights.....(ie once you know what's required from the embassy). If you're flying Emirates they do not charge for flight changes when it's due to a death (OH had this back in Feb). A family death is a DEFINATE ok for an emergency travel doc!!! Really good luck and do let us know how you get on today. Hugs to you and your family xxx

:-) No worries!! So very glad to for once be able to help!! I must admit I was hesitant to post the info at first, as someone said (prolly BM :)) if she gets too bombarded all comms would maybe grind to a halt! But so glad she's on the ball and advising all. And yes, I wonder if she wonders why she's all of a sudden so popular with folk from DXB! A colleague of OH's had the contact, when I started to sweat OH had spoken about it at work and the colleague mentioned she had the contact info. To this day we have NO how she got hold of that contact .....but hey...do we really care?? I think not :-) So glad it's on it's way for you. LLx

Try really hard not to have to deal with DEWA, Etisilat or Sub Standard Charter at this time....... :) (dont fancy a stay in Bur Dubai HIlton) He he he soooo true, me too!! A few glasses of the liquid grape takes my mind off it ...... not very helpful in the long term I know! :-P

They called me too today. Mine will hopefully be leaving Germany tomorrow. :) :) :) Can almost hear your sigh of relief from here!! Thank goodness for that ..... Fingers and toes crossed for everyone else's! When I posted mine off I also had the delusion that it would be a 10 day / max 2 week turnaround from what friends & colleagues had said ....... such a shame it's all gone so t!ts up this summer & caused us all so much stress eh! I think the consulate should offer a 'Waiting for passport to return counselling session, how to cope with the stress' Free of charge!!!

Funny that 'life / wise' quotes should come up, I've just been looking for a signature quote for somewhere else and found this site. http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~robins/quotes.html I currently have a shortlist of about 30 quotes now!!! This one is quite close to the top though ... "Try to learn something about everything and everything about something." - Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895) What's your fave quote girls?? Would love to hear....... x

And definately don't allow them to smoke in public during Ramadan, that'll really upset people :-P On a more sensible note .... no playing loud music in the car during Ramadan either ....... I have been caught out on occasion when a tune comes on that I love, and I suddenly realise I'm sharing it with the rest of the road at the lights!

Simpleas ..... I do not believe for one second that you're an old bat at all .... lazy, well that I don't know :-P (I know I am!!) Meena Bazaar, nr Satwa is only about 15 / 20 mins away from Barsha (taxi or drive), and there you can find my tailor who's just made my wedding dress. Mover & Sheikha ..... 6 months!!!??? My god how on earth can the SA authorities justify that? A month is about 3 weeks too long for us Brits!! This time last year through until Xmas I was travelling once a month with work ...... how would that work for a Saffa with a passport needing renewal? I know! A friend has put her DD's passport in, expecting it to take 2 months. She put it in in pril and is expecting it in october. It's a shocker. They are stuck here for the summer. That's totally mental and my sympathies are with you and your fellow Saffa's!! In fact I have an SA mate here who had triplets 8 months ago ...... must remember to ask them how they are getting on re registering the LO's!
