After 2 yrs of living there we're really really sad to have moved out 2 weeks ago as I needed to be nearer my job in Abu Dhabi. Yes the apartments are dated, but they are huge (2 bed for us) .......and if you can wangle yourself into a refurbed one you're laughing. The facils are faultless and as another poster said, you pay the rent and there's no other bills, twice weekely cleaning service inc'd (they'll change your own bed linen if you leave it out for them), & if you leave them 20 / 15 aed and a note they'll do the washing up for you. The pool and both the indoor and pool bar are great, FOC gym facils if that's your thing, Zumba classes (if thats your thing, paid for), the climbing wall (thats not our thing ;-)). Plus if anything breaks, cooker, fridge, AC, you have maintenance with you within half hour to fix. We LOVED it there and are very sad to go :-( Last summer we requested a 'deep clean' whilst we were away in the UK. OMG I got back to what I consider not a deep clean, but almost a refurb! The whole apartment had been repainted, all internal doors revarnished, and the kitchen & bathroom floors regrouted, the carpet (yes carpet) looked brand spanking and had obviously been steam cleaned. I've seen a couple of other apartments with refurbs..... wooden floors etc....... I'd ask for one of them if you're seriously looking at DWTC .....

OK, so the engineer called to say are we at home, YES (well I am)!!! He came and he fixed it. No idea what the problem was, but its fixed so do I really care? No. Crying down the phone was my next tactic but hopefully my 3 calls this morning whilst trying to remain civil did the job. I just still can not believe that the 'customer service' dept, apparently has no direct contact with the 'tech' department and all thay can advise is 'your call has been logged'. I totally appreciated this is a relatively young company in the grand scheme of things, and I really do thank my lucky stars that our internet has been reinstated after 4 days without ....... but surely they must be able to track the problem and advise whether or not an engineer is likely to call on any given day??? Staying home to wait for an appoint from British Gas or British Telecom in the UK between 8am and 6pm is ok, at least you can plan. But to be told an engineer MIGHT pop in today is really not a lot of help. Breath, and 2nd vent over. Its fixed so the award does not now go to Etisalat ............

Unfortunately you can't buy manners .......such a shame eh as some folk worldwide would so benefit from a 'manners' shop!!! On the flip side I was pleasantly surprised today when at a less than orderly queue in DM food court. I was waived forward by a couple to the pay till.....I had been there first but due to the state of the queue it really wasn't clear who's turn it was next ..... but they offered for me to go first which I appreciated....... so nice to see that it does happen on occasion!

Home internet fell over Weds eve & despite asking for Etisalat help first thing Thurs they can't send an engineer till Sunday (bl*ody Etisalshite, grrr!!). So, I have to say I've felt rather news starved with no internet & have felt the need to keep checking to see if the world had ended else where in the world ;) Luckily theres FOC wifi downstairs by the pool so here I am nursing a glass of cold white checking whether the rest of the world exists. Seems it does and nothing untoward has occured.....maybe I'll order a 2nd glass just in case it all ends in 2 hrs ;)

Tryi Kinko's ..... they're affiliated to Fed Ex and have shops that open late in various locations across Dubai. Have used them before, emailed them stuff, printed ready to collect 2 hrs later. Not sure about the pricing, but reasonable from what I can remember.

I'm probably worrying for nothing, although they definately asked to see our passports on entry 3 weeks ago, plus took our phones from us. I'm sure it'll be OK with other photo ID and an explanation re why I have no passport, h*ll I could even take the DHL slip proving my passports whereabouts .......I'm normally quite good at talking myself into places I shouldnt be so maybe I shouldn't be such a worry wart ;)

Just finished it and had to recommend!!! Brilliant from start to finish!!! [b'>Amazon review: [/b'> [i'>Before I Go To Sleep is an excellent psychological thriller. I found myself reading this book into the small hours, and really had to tear myself away from it and go to sleep. It's an unmissable read and I can't recommend it enough. The book is based around Christine, who loses her memory when she goes to sleep and has to start afresh everytime she wakes up. It's quite thrilling seeing it from her own eyes as each day she wakes up and can't figure out where she is, and everything has to be explained to her by a man who carefully explains to her that he's her husband. She begins to keep a journal, writing down what happens to her each day as recommended by her doctor who calls her each day to remind her of her journal and where it's hidden. Each day she reads what's previously written in her journal, and is extremely confused as she can never remember the previous entries. As the book progresses you begin to realise something isn't right, and you know who it must involve but you can't figure out why. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next, and it was a brilliant read. I highly recommend this book! [/i'>

I'm also on tenterhooks waiting for mine to return! I DHL'd it on Thurs 28th April (2wks ago) and my card was debited on Weds...... its only been 2 weeks but I'm terrified as our honeymoon is booked for the 19th June .......breath, breath, it'll be ok I'm sure!!! I might just give them a call on Monday tho to check all is ok .... thanks for the number!! PS IF there is a problem, do you think the embassy would consider a honeymoon important enough to issue an emergency travel doc? I left 9 weeks to process the passport so not cutting that fine in my book .........

We recently booked our honeymoon via Atoll Paradise and found their level of service faultless!! They have a wide range of resorts and work hard to send details on resorts that match your requirements. For us all inclusive, total seclusion and no kids were our main requirements ;) They assign a personal travel consultant.....ours is lovely, very very speedy to respond to any queries and didn't need asking twice to find the best deal for us. We ended up with a deal of stay 10 days pay for just 7, with seaplane transfers thrown in. Highly highly recommend them! www.atollparadise.com edited by Loopy Lotti on 13/05/2011

I also suffer with this, sleek glossy hair turning into a greasy sticky lifeless mess for no apparent reason. No babies invovled and hormones stable. Seems to kick in when the humidity rises here and as Ismanesmama advised, mint based shampoos definately help. Sounds bizarre but washing once in a while with plain old fairy liquid (my hairdresser recommended it!!) works as it's a plain and simple detergent with no additives and strips the hair of any unecessary built up grease or chemicals in the hair. Note to self: leave fairy liquid in the bathroom for tmrw as my hair is rank right now!!

Book enought flights to circumnavigate the world, then book a return trip flying in the other direction, all 1st class! That'd possibly earn enough miles to buy an aircraft!! OK - on a more realistic front .... I have no idea and would be interested to hear some sensible replies as I am a points junkie and have half looked at the NBD 'infinity' card that offers points for spending ......... not got very far tho as I get bored with reading the small print! I've not read all 3 pages of this thread ....but from what I understand 'to gift' is a very arabic phrase & simply means 'to give'? We all know there are little to none 'literal' translations so grammer is hardly priority ?...... I wouldn't use the phrase at home but here it doesn't bother me at all. Whereas 'do the needful' ............ well, that should just be illegal pure and simple!!!! Can forgive non westerners whose 1st language is not ours & who are clearly trying .......but I've seen recently a few 1st language English folk use this in emails at work and I simply see red and give up!!!! Just my 2 penneth ........ hope I haven't offended anyone x

At work, via phone call followed up via email...... Me: ‘Clients due in meeting room no ** in 1hr, 3 light bulbs out please send engineer to fix …..’ Automated email saying ‘Engineer on his way asap…..will advise once job is completed’ Half hour later get automated email back saying ‘ job no *** completed and closed’ I email back saying (nicely of course)….’how can the job be closed when the work hasn’t been carried out?’ Email back (not automated) apologising for the confusion, and stating that they will ‘[b'>NIFTY ME [/b'>ASAP once the job has been completed’ Oh how I chuckled and even circulated that very nifty email to my close colleagues, wondering what on earth they meant by ‘Nifty’?! MUCH later cottoned on that NIFTY was a very poor spelling of NOTIFY ….. bless them, only in the UAE eh?!!!

I see your point, but no new threads on the subject. We'll give them a go ....and if anyone else ever asks I'll recommend them, or if they turn out rubbish, I'll be diplomatic at best (at the risk of the thread being pulled - lol). At the end of the day a good company (spesh here in the UAE) is something worth keeping a secret so they don't get overloaded resulting in a drop of service .......... As for the tailor / dressmaker that's making my dress .... well my lord, she is my new best friend and someone I picked up from recommendations here ...... amazing!!!!!!! It's not Anne Rashid ....... but defo the next best thing!!!! I'm staying shtum till my dress is done ;-) I will post back tho if we go the hand made shoe route ....... xxxx

You're most welcome. I have no clue how I dug that one up - I used to spend much of my working day researching and these days I have the memory of a hen! Hope he gets some lovely shoes and you get something lovely for finding him a shoemaker :D. xx Oh, and all the best for the big day! edited by DubaiCat on 04/05/2011 LOL. Indeed, I have as much memory as hen have teeth these days! I mentioned to STBDH (soon to be DH) the shoemaker after the last 2 hr trip round Dubai Mall (I detest shopping, he loves it).....then couldnt find the thread (hence my post). There was a longer thread that I'm sure must have been deleted ......I think a lot of girls raved about the co & the mods pulled it .......oh well, you remembered so all is good ;-) Daring to get the thread pulled again ....(I have now book marked the site I need)...... have you or anyone else used this co? They look professional, from what I remember everyone loved them, made to order shoes in the region of 500 to 600 AED ...ish .... Any other comments??? xxx

I clearly forgot the key words 'Italian' and 'maker' along with 'shoes' in my search, 'handmade' turned up zero apart from some vague reference to a 1980's green activist selling handmde nappies (jesting!). What do you consider a very reasonable price? Mr Bens costume shop is reasonable in my book - prolly around 150 to 200 AED to purchase a kids outfit, not too much more for an adults outfit if that's what you're looking for. Their stock is huge so you might find Alice. They're easily found via google if you're not already familiar. Good luck x Edit for typo! edited by Loopy Lotti on 04/05/2011
