But no one can run fast enough to cross 6 lanes of tail gating cars doing between 120 and 180!! I seriously think they must wait HOURS to get across!

Ok, another Thurs (weds eve) thread, apols in advance. I drive to AD each day and each & every day I see men working on the foliage that separates 12 lanes going from AD to DXB / DXB to AD ……. They stand in the middle (ie. the fast lane hard shoulder) looking like they want to cross the road to get back to their vehicle, that is parked on the other side of the 6 lanes …….HOW do they do it and stay alive???? Do they stand there for 9 hrs waiting for a suitable gap in the traffic??? For surely they must have to wait hours? I’ve not yet had to slam on the brakes to miss one…….. and I’ve not yet seen one actually take the plunge into the lanes ………… Can you imagine writing a risk assessment for those poor guys that tend to what ever needs doing in the middle of the road??? I just cant get my head around it!!

If she came last year chances are At the Top has not yet been done? Takes half a day by the time you factor in lunch at the mall either before or after ........... Or the grand mosque at AD as per previous suggestion ....... that'd take up a whole day surely? Or play chicken on SZR? That's defo been suggested on previous MIL threads :-) Good luck and let us know what transpires :-) x

thanks for the clarification! I'm left puzzled however about the point of making these stories up then... What's the bl88dy point? I agree, what is the point of this type of spam? As a female driving alone (& I drive 270 kms a day) it'd take a war ship in the middle lane to even consider me slowing down let alone stop to investigate!!! Gullible I might be, stupid I am not (NOT that I'm calling any previous posters stupid nor gullible!!). Saying that...... if I did find myself driving in wooded grasslands in the UAE I might consider slowing down, a bit .......... :-) x edited by Loopy Lotti on 16/02/2011

Tash didnt really do anything other than troll alert. OP simply said she'd been browsing for months .... couldnt think of an innocuous subject to start a thread so simply started by saying Hi All .......... troll alert came to the board and new poster apologised for user name ............ oh I dunno ........... Tash ....... if she ran scared she'll come back. With a user name as bold as hers hopefully she wont be seen off by a quick reaction post! No need for shaming head holding! Shelly - you're the one that got the original thread banned just because you mistyped c*ck!!! Altho NOT your fault! .... dreaming of forum filters for not allowed words!! I just hope Betty reads all of this and posts so we know she's real!! I'd be changing my name and starting again tbh!! Oh I love a Weds / Thurs eve thread :-) x

Tash - you were the first to call Troll alert!! LOL ! I also hope she hasnt been scared off, but I have to admit if this had been my opening few posts I might be long gone licking my wounds. I think my first post was something along the lines of 'Im new and where can I buy shoe polish' ............. and I've evolved from that into humour :-) On a totally side note ........ have any of you seen or appreciate this (following the bettyswallocks theme) ...... http://myreader.co.uk/msg/134511462.aspx Ronnie Barker at his best (allegedly) It's very old, but still has me in fits of school girl giggles every time I try to say Rindercella and her forrible huckers...........

Deleted thread ....... Bettyswallocks intro'd herself, was accused of being a troll by a n other member (not my place to name names!), Shelly bless her mentioned something about c*cks and voila thread gone!! We were discussing whether or not the new user was a troll ....... I believe not, but then I am trusting to the point of being gullible ........ She was only introducing herself and I see she is still on the browsing list .... so I really hope she comes back and we havent scared her off. x

Emirates Emirates Emirates!!!! BA shafted me with our cancelled Christmas flight .... I'd paid £136 + 40,000 points for the 2 of us to fly one way to London on Dec 22nd. They cancelled the flight 48 hrs in advance, and offered a flight that would have us arrive around 23:00hrs on Dec 24th. No good to us, even more so considering the risk that flight might also be cancelled!! So once I checked I could get an Emirates flight (who's cancellations were minimal thoughout that period) I called BA back agreeing to take the FULL refund INC the points. No problem they assured me, ALL will be refunded. Do you think I've ever seen my 40,000 points again despite many phone calls and emails!?!?!?! 'Not our policy to refund points madam, whoever told you that was misinformed'. Arrrggghhhhh!!!! I am NOT happy with BA & would rather swim than book a flight with them in future!! Sorry, *rant over* ETA: not least to say Emirates are by far a more superior airline!!! I love flying Emirates :-) edited by Loopy Lotti on 16/02/2011

All of these phrases send me nuts and I have one to add... I "stay" in Jumeirah rather than I "live" in Jumeirah. "Staying" somewhere implies impermanence! You stay in a hotel you live in your home! Oh and just remembered another - the Damac ads - byline - "LIVE THE LUXURY". Hmmm....LIVE THE LUXURY - what? Lifestyle? What? I NEED TO KNOW BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN BUGGING ME FOR YEARS! Do the needful - shiver shiver... Tell me - what? **off to lie down with a cold flannel on my head** LOL in total agreement!! I think 'I stay' comes from the fact that folk do not consider living here as permanent ..... neither do I, but hey anything more than a 2 or 3 week holiday is permanent for the forseeable future therefore I definately LIVE here rather than just stay! :-) Ohhhhh just thought of another one that I've heard too many times recently from arrogant expats when asked 'how are you?' ........'Oh great, [b'>living the dream[/b'>' -- euuuuuk!!!!!! Living the dream is for lottery wins only in my book!!!! *Cold flannel moment here too ;-)* edited by Loopy Lotti on 15/02/2011

They are both absolutely beautiful and this type of story breaks my heart. I SOOO hope you find somewhere for them to stay and soooo wish I could help :( My biggest regret living here is I can't keep pets (apartment living and both DH & I out for a min of 12 hrs a day at work). Praying that one day I can retire gracefully with menagerie of animals to care for!!!!

[b'>Do the needful[/b'> is my no 1 top pet hate!!!! ESPECIALLY when from a westerner who should know better!!! Grrrr 'It is what it is' I also find annoying, but then again it might just have been the westerner who I used to work with who said it 20 times a day that I found particularly irritating!! I've only really ever come across 'to gift' or something was 'gifted' from locals .... maybe I've been sheltered from the rest of the masses that use the term.

I had a call from Du earlier telling me I owed them money. Unfortunately the 'gentleman' refused to give me any details as to why I owed them money or for what address but insisted I had to co-operate with him. When I said I refused to visit anywhere without being told why it was thought I owed money he told me "I am getting angry with you". Lucky it was a phone conversation otherwise he may have been digesting teeth. OMG!! Sounds like a scam! I had a call from Etisalat last week, the guy was very insistant that I called him back immediately & gave a mobile no ......... I didnt call back & have heard nothing since!! Weird, but prolly some other type of scam!

From today's 7 days [i'> [b'>Amy makes excuses[/b'> Promoters of Amy Winehouse’s shocking performance in Dubai have refuted allegations the sound system was playing up. A spokesperson for the shamed artist, who was booed while singing at Gulf Bike Week at Festival City on Friday, told the Metro newspaper in the UK: “Unfortunately, Amy’s in-ear monitors weren’t working so she couldn’t hear herself while singing. This led to some songs being cut short, leaving the stage for a bit to see if they could be fixed and handing over to her backing singer Zalon to sing one more song than he usually would. “The audience didn’t know this, of course.” But event organiser Done Events denied there was any problem with the sound on the night. Thomas Ovesen, the chief operating officer, said: “There were certainly no problems in the sound. If her ear monitors weren’t working, I don’t see what that has to do with what the audience heard. “They have nothing to do with what you hear as an audience. It’s a sophisticated way of artists hearing themselves. Some choose to use them, and some don’t. I don’t think her performance reflected any problems with production.” Many of the 10,000 fans who went to the show have complained Winehouse’s singing was barely audible and out of tune, she seemed distracted and left the stage for about 10 minutes. And concert-goers agreed it could not have been a technical hitch as all the other singers were good. One fan said: “The only sound problem was that nothing came out of Amy’s mouth.”[/i'> To Hello Again Kitty - very true!!!

JS - thank you SO much for your valuable feedback, especially as a tired new mum (congratulations!!!!). Our wedding will be just the two of us (with a party later in the year back home), so as you can imagine for a honeymoon we want everything to be totally perfect and if we're paying for 5* then we'll be expecting 5*!!! I am currently [b'>ALL [/b'>over Agado, Trip Advisor, Booking.com & Hotels.com - comparing prices, reviews, location etc etc. It's still a total minefield and you can never tell a resort by the pics as anything in the Maldives can look like paradise! I've started a spreadsheet logging all info found with a tab for each resort - logging info from each of the main booking channels inc prices direct from the resorts. My task is to narrow it down to 3 (ok maybe 5) then sling it in his lordships direction to help make a final decision :) Thanks again to everyone for their input! x

Saying that he did buy me an eternity ring for my landmark birthday ....... and combined birthday/valentines day present some earings that I fell in love with from the same shop the ring came from (I am SO lucky!!). I got him a man bangle and a card and last night we had pizza + bottle of fizz at home, I went to bed at 9pm shattered whilst he fell asleep on the sofa. Such romantics r us ;-) x

I'm just starting my 3rd week of commuting between Trade Centre and a place 5 mins after Maqta bridge. On a good day it's been taking me 1hr 10mins to get there, 1hr 20mins to get back. The worst part of my journey is when traffic grinds to a halt post MOE on the way back...... I'm finding it do-able, and I'm lucky that my office hours are 8.30 to 4pm so I leave at 7am & am normally parked by 8.15am, and if out the door by 4pm I'm parked at home by 5.30pm, which isn't toooo bad. Last Thurs however was the exception when it took me 2hrs 15 to get home and witnessed the aftermath of no less than 4 accidents along the way (shunts rather than full on smashes, but enough to halt traffic), and yes the road is full of total IDIOTS!! A previous comment was wise - stick in the 2nd to fastest lane and just let the nutters pass you by on either side, oh and keep you distance from the car in front no matter how much bullying there is from behind. DH works here in the Trade Centre area so moving to AD is not an option for us (not that we'd want too anyway), saying that we are DEFO looking to move Marina / Palm / Ibn Btta end to ease my journey. We'll need 2 cars (we only need 1 right now as DH walks to work), but bless him, he said I moved all the way to the UAE for his job, the least he'll do is move a few kms up the road & fund a new car for my job :-) I think ultimately if you can put up with the travelling and move Marina end of DXB it'll be a good move for you. HTH! x
