A spokesperson for Amy said: "Amy had technical problems and couldn't hear herself during the gig. One of her in-ear monitors wasn't working properly." :-P This is not a pop at you SM..... you are simply reporting ;) But for goodness sake, if she had tech probs that shouldn't have stopped her from smiling and at least making some kind of effort to entertain her audience!! The more I think of it the more I can't believe how rubbish she was!!! I remember seeing her perform at Glastonbury a few years back (watched on TV) ..... it was actually quite entertaining because she was so clearly VERY out of it ...... flumoxed security and the camera guys as she decided to walk off stage and wander around the crowd mid song .... now that was entertaining!!! ;)

We're looking at June (looooooong story but we've been waiting for ages to get wed and now we can we want to asap). We're not doing the family thing in any way shape or form ....... too far flung across the globe & his folks are too frail to travel. We're looking at a UK based party later in the year (where I'll get a second wear out of the dress :)). Would love to have the details of your lady in Satwa ..... would you mind sharing her contact info? xxx

You know what, if I personally was confronted with as hostile an audience as that, I'd be rolling my eyes, checking my nails and counting the seconds til I could get off stage too. She doesnt look wasted, she looks criminally shy and uncomfortable. When the backing people came up to speak to her, it seemed as if they wanted her off stage to give her a moment to recover. Yes, I get you have paid money to see her and can expect a professional performance, which wasnt delivered...but for all of 'you' catcalling and booing, did you ever once consider that she is young woman and in a lot of distress (whatever the reason) ? That kind of audience participation is more commonly found on a sports field and is equally distasteful there. Sorry but I disagree. She is paid to perform and had she 'performed' there wouldn't have been any booing!! edited by Loopy Lotti on 12/02/2011

sorry, funny question, if you are not a fun of boat trips or sea plane, why are you going to Maldives? choose some other place with neither way of transportation involved. Fair question! I've been before (12 years ago) and once you arrive at your destination it's paradise on earth so worth the travel traumas!! OH hasn't been before and is very keen..... it really is the perfect honeymoon destination!! But, the point of my opening post .... I'd like to minimise travel from Male if at all poss! Saying that I am coming round to the sea plane idea and will put my nerves aside :-) Emlsnre - eeeeeekkkk!! I'd rather be on a plane for sure!! CM - you're helping my cause big time :-) I think I can handle the plane :-) x edited by Loopy Lotti on 12/02/2011

No stress - easy to arrange - and again not too expensive! would love to hear from people who have already done this!?!?! xx I could have typed this!!! We were considering Cyprus as that seems the most straight forward, however as a destination we really really want to go to the Maldives where you can't actually get married! So we're going to investigate getting married here on a Friday then honeymooning in the Maldives thereafter ....... I really have no idea where to start tho! I'm guessing a visit to the UK Embassy to see what they say re the actual ceremony and take it from there .....

Just starting the research mission for a 10 day honeymoon in the Maldives in June ............ would like somewhere fairly close to Male as I'm not a huge fan of long boat trips, and don't even suggest I get in a sea plane!! (wimps are us!!). Can anyone recommend anywhere lovely? LLx

Reporting in post brunch yesterday at the Grand Grill, Habtoor Grand. We had a brilliant time (12 of us), the service was absolutely faultless, our glasses were never allowed to be less than half full, and the selection of drinks was good (pink sparkling, normal sparkling, decent Sth African red or white wine, beers, cider and spirits). The food was just ok although plentiful. It just KEPT coming & I liked the fact you didnt actually have to leave the table as all the meat was served! Our vegi mate was looked after with a vegi lasagne which I thought was a nice touch. The birthday song by the staff was brilliant .... happy birthday that then turned into african drumming and song, together with a personal size pudding and happy birthday message on the plate - nice :-) Price wise I thought it good value ...... except my rather drunken DH insisted on picking up the bill for the whole table!!! (he didnt think it quite so clever this morning when he found the receipt!! - lol). Bless him :-) A good day indeed and would recommend. I wouldn't however recommend the hang over I have today ......but hey, you only turn 40 once eh!! :-) LLx

No energy, no sparkle, no effort, nothing at all that could be described as 'performing'!! She'd might as well be humming a hymn whilst doing the washing up!!! It is indeed very very sad ....i just can't believe her management let her get away with that kind of non performance. LOL nice thread & one that I can so identify with!!! My DH & I often remark that if 'doing nothing' was a recognised qualification we'd both qualified professors of 'doing nothing'. We are VERY good at wasting time and enjoying it!! On our days off our fave quote is 'nothing to do, and all day to do it in'. Followed by 'where'd the day go??'. That said, I am very good at getting up each week day at 6am....going to and doing work stuff, then coming home anytime between 6 and 8pm, and somehow organsing the washing, the washing up (boo) the laundry, cooking semi sensible meals (or grabbing somthing from the freezer), keeping myself looking like a woman rather than a tramp ....etc etc! I delight in doing NOTHING outside of those times!!! And I waste SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much time in front of my lappy, but I wouldnt have it any other way. LLx edited by Loopy Lotti on 09/02/2011

Sorry to be flip ..... but FIRST time to make a baked potato???!!! Standard student diet in my day! Ok - in a more helpful mode .......whatever potato (of a decent size).... I bung it in the micro for about 7 mins, then stick it in the oven for anything between 30 & 40 mins to let it crisp up outside and fluff up inside. Of course british King Edwards are the best but they are also the most expensive (if available). The Lebanese potato's that are always available are just fine for us. Top with cheese, chilli, tuna, feta, beans - or a combo of all. Scrummy!!

So many lost cat threads :-( Was lovely to hear Claire found Millie I SO hope you find yours too. I had x4 outdoor cats at home in the UK & I miss them like crazy ..... so much so that I am seriously working on DH to allow me to have a couple of INDOOR cats here ...... never really agreed with indoor cats but I am beginning to come round due to the amount of lost cat threads. You never think it'll happen but it seems to be all to common a thread :-( Good luck sweetie - I'll be keeping my eyes out (despite being the other end of town!). x

I cant really help with your question, but can advise that when we tried using the vouchers for a party of 5 ....... we were told by the Nobu staff that by if we paid using our NBD credit card we got 25% discount off the total bill (inc drinks), which equated to a LOT more than what the vouchers would have offered us. The menus (GORGEOUS as they are!!) are not standard starter / mains / pudding format so I think the vouchers may end up being slightly redundant! HTH

Possibly. I am conscious of what I believe to be the shortcomings in my relationship with Mum and have put in effort to ensure it is different for my son and daughter. My children and I have built strong, respectful and loving bonds that extend well beyond what Mum and I had so I guess you could say despite everything she made me a better parent. It sounds to me like you have totally embraced what you learnt having been a child of 'older' parents and made good with your own. Learnt by the experience and have put it to good use with creating a solid, honest and open forum for your family. NICE one, and may it continue for many years!!! :-) That is exactly what I strive for in the future, despite my age!! x

Simpleas - more interesting stuff!! I also had a rubbish relationship with my mum until I was about 13 ..... mum was young, stressed & suffered with a history of clinical depression. Dad worked nights (newspaper print industry) so she was alone with me all day every day & her maternal instincts were far from intact!!! It wasnt easy for me nor her!! It wasnt until I started to become an adult (13 ish!!) that she suddenly realised I was her ally (her relationship with Dad wasnt that great) and when I began to see her point of view, her hardships (she had an upbringing that resembles something from a victorian horror story!!) .............and now, well, she's still a little hard work but I appreciate her more than ever (now we live 6,000 miles apart!!!). I had (have) no siblings to ease the pressure ........ but hey........ i reckon I turned out ok-ish........... I find this topic so interesting .... sorry to keep throwing my oar in!! x

If you get there early enough (6pm-ish) you'll get parked just fine. Word of warning though, no matter if you drive n park or opt for a taxi there n back getting OUT is a total nightmare!!! We saw Status Quo there last year and it took us over an hour to find a cab home............. Advice ........ leave approx 10 mins before the finale and you'll get out a lot quicker! Went to Compume yesterday as I just happened to be at MOE anyway. They took the drive and told me a week to 10 days ..... ok, I can live with that so long as I get my data back. An hr later I was still in the mall and received a call from them ..... madam there is no data on your drive, only the drive software & we've transfered to another hard disk for you ...........errrrrrr, OK, I know there IS data on that drive (all 71 GB of it!!!), but I'll come see you now. The technician wizzed me through a couple of screens, and I agreed I also couldnt see any data ....so paid my 100 dhs and left it at that. I have since searched the drive again today, and with a little investigation can clearly see listed within one of the folders there are 41 folders amounting to 71 GB of data!!!! SafeData next stop .............. sigh ............. :-)

In the meantime I really hope poor Amanda is being looked after and being offered some answers as to what went wrong so she can have some hope for the future. Poor poor poor love. Are you ladies buying valentines presents? Do you receive from your DH's? By this time next week I will have just turned 40 (SOB SOB!!!) and am childless (another huge sob). Reason? Partially due to being a career/party girl throughout my 20's and a career girl/failed marriage throughout my early 30’s. I have since been with my dear other half for 5 years and fell pregnant at the end of 2008 (age 37) ....we were still in the UK and overjoyed!! (for any that recognise me on here I normally post DH as I have been ULTRA cautious from day one of arriving here – if you get what I’m saying?). Sadly I miscarried at 14 weeks back in Feb 2009. Utterly devastated, but finally accepted it's VERY common, especially at my age. Then just 2 months later I was made redundant, then 2 months after that my other half was made redundant (!!) and as a result our wedding plans were shelved due to lack of funds! Within 3 months of both our redundancies we had found good jobs here (wasn’t our first choice but hey, the jobs & financials made sense!!). Now having been here for 18 months (we love it here despite the usual frustrations) we are finally planning our wedding (in between our busy work schedules) for May 2011, and will be at it like rabbits thereafter in the hope of producing a child  So sorry to hijack this thread but the ‘when is too old’ bit really tugged my heartstrings having not yet produced one & rapidly approaching my 40’s . I hope and pray that once we’re married I can fall with no complications and not go through the heartache of another miscarriage  To answer the original OP’s question? My opinion is if you have a brood, no matter what age then enjoy life without nappies, potty training etc etc. If you’re 46 now chances are you’ll be 47 if not 48 by the time you deliver, the child would still be begging you for cash to see him/her through university when you are just about to start enjoying your pension!! Just my thoughts. Sorry this was so long and apologies again for hijacking the thread ……. Just feeling a little bit hard done by on the baby front and hope it’s my turn soon ……….. x Edits due to - making spaces between the para's! edited by Loopy Lotti on 06/02/2011 edited by Loopy Lotti on 06/02/2011 edited by Loopy Lotti on 06/02/2011
