So you know LL the dog is allowed to run loose unsupervised and has shown aggression in the past (nothing serious reported here). A well trained dog no matter the breed is a joy forever. Idiot owners who do not supervise their dogs should be drawn and quartered. I totally agree, untrained is the first crime, unsupervised is the 2nd crime ...................... to do both together is totally unforgivable!!!! And I agree that owners that do not take on both commitments of both training then supervising need to be hung drawn and quartered, & its neither fair on the dogs!!! x

Oh dear oh dear oh dear :-( I grew up as a child with 2 dobermans (alledgedly agressive) then once the Dobes departed we had a rottweiler for 15 yra (again alledgely agressive). The thing with dogs big and small alike is they NEED TRAINING!!!!! If a dog hasnt been trained be it small or large then it shouldnt be out on the streets nor in the family home .... I've not read this thread in full, I've just jumped on as I feel so strongly re dogs, training and the way the press poorly portray the way dogs are ...... :-(

well yes it would come up like new Loopy., it would be new grout lol :):):):) Seriously tho, take the effort away for the cost of a day or twos handyman wages!! I shouldnt really comment, we live in serviced apartments and when ours got too grotty they regrouted 2 bathrooms & the kitchen FOC as part of the maintenance. I thought we'd come back to a new apartment after a 10 day holiday!

Firstly, I have to say I am a huge fan of this board as I am a total bookworm, and currently being out of work I'm spending a small mortage on books to keep me occupied right now! BUT, having gone through a lot of mindless chic lit recently I am 2/3rds through 'The Other Hand' by Chris Cleave. It's different ...... and I'm not really quite sure what to make of it ...... I am for one thing tho hooked! Started it last night and will probably finish it this eve. I'll reserve judgement till then but interested to hear of any others that may have read it and their thoughts? LLx edited by Loopy Lotti on 23/01/2011

Thank you ladies .... I darted off to the supermarket before any replies and am now in a possession of a bottle of Ultimate Care Bleach Powerful Whitening Clorex - apparently gentle on fabric (never previously heard of such a product!). So I'll give that a go after reading the instructions carefully. If it goes t!ts up then I'll just have to replace - they are only Ikea afterall but wanted to at least try to bring some life back to them!! As for the dishdash method - hehehehehe - I suspect professional expensive cleaning every wash!! ;-) But yes I'd LOVE to know how they stay so pristine!! Too bl**dy late to put any washing on now tho..... is it wineoclock yet?? :)

A friend of mine has ALL school fees paid for his x3 kids, a house PURCHASED for him + x2 high end vehicles. All living costs covered to inc DEWA etc etc but no maid paid for ....... oh I forgot to mention, he owns the company & is very successful :-) As for us - an allowance for school fees from both our co's (I think 50% to a certain limit), but we have no kids. No other perks other than x1 return flight home. Both work - 40 to 60k

We had a Tom at home with the voice of Ozzy Osbourne ..... we never got lost (left at the fffffffff'ing junction!!!!!!!!). Not sure Tom, Garmin or even Garvin would be worth it here as things change so quickly (I'm sure Ozzy would get v cross!!). We just work on getting good landmark directions (ie left at the mosque, go along for a bit till you see a yellow sign & a man with a shovel in his hand etc etc) before we go looking for anywhere & that seems to have worked so far without any matrimonial disasters! edited by Loopy Lotti on 22/01/2011

This thread has turned my mind re indoor cats are actually ok (we do have a large-ish balcony, 7th floor so no chance of them jumping I hope). I SO MISS catz!!!!! Wonder if I can persuade DH??????? It's the relocation costs that pray on our mind should we leave (we have no intention of staying 21 years which is the ripe age my 1st cat lived to). Ohhhhh I soooo want a couple of kittens :-(

LOL not at all Freckles ;-) On a side note (am clearly very bored again today!!) I found this on Yahoo and thought it summed things up quite nicely. [i'>Best Answer - Chosen by Voters I think that generalising and stereotyping are signs of low intelligence, swearing excessively is more often either a sign of limited vocabulary, or a desire to show off to others. It annoys me when someone swears for no reason at all, I assume that it's that type of person that is being considered to have the low intelligence? I think that swearing has it's place in communication, but that purpose is dulled by excessive use. For example, many years ago I got a job in a factory, doing a basic manual job, and everyone I worked with swore almost constantly. The first time I swore there was after 4 or 5 weeks, when someone did something that upset me. When I swore, everyone within earshot stopped what they were doing, and the room was silent. The guy who had upset me apologised, I accepted his apology, and everyone returned to what they were doing. Later another guy approached me, and said that it was the first time he'd heard me swear, and he was actually shocked by it. I explained that swearing is much more powerful if you only do it when you mean it, and not in every sentence. I like to think he learnt something that day. As for my intelligence, when I left the company 5 years later I had worked my way up to being a manager in the computer department, and this was a company with over 20,000 employees world wide. I don't have cats here as we live on the 7th floor and I'd rather not have purely indoor cats but at home I trained my cats to recognise that a whistle means food and without fail they'd come running in from where ever they'd been. Rather than leave a continous supply of food on the floor for him/ her set a meal time so it's hungry when food time is looming. Whistle just before you feed and do this EVERY time. They're smart little things and within a couple of weeks little one should recognised the whistle, associate it with food and come running. HTH & good luck! x

People who cannot control their foul language are said to be those that are linguistically challenged, i.e. they simply aren’t smart enough to be in command of a vocabulary range sufficient to express themselves adequately. I personally think a few well placed colourful words are a fabulous way to let off steam in frustrating situations, that said though I wouldn’t dream of doing it in public neither here nor at home! Although, I can sympathise with Lakshmi ….. I have certainly *thought* words along those lines in shops before, and it’s possibly only a matter of time before what I’m thinking in my head falls out of my mouth! Best button up on the old self control as I really do not want to experience the inside of a jail here!

I certainly intended no slur, either - I've never met any of them and know little or nothing about them, and was just pointing to what looks to be a well-researched story in a reputable newspaper! Absolutely! It's all out there in the public domain and even on the shelves of the book shops here in DXB ....... I understand the MODS have to errr on the side of caution ... & I've never had a post deleted before. Just a bit baffled TBH ..... Oh well ;-) xxx

PS Anea - read the book I mentioned below - gives a great low down of who's who and how they came to be there. Apparently Sheihk Mohammed IS very approachable and he used to deal with ANYONE who had a problem and went to him. Dubai has become a little to large for that nowadays but he seems like a thoroughly good chap in my book! Edit for spelling - doh! edited by Loopy Lotti on 19/01/2011

Never mind the affect on the baby, I think it's inappropriate to take small children to the cinema - it's an annoyance for other people. Sorry to be a party poop but I totally agree with Jules here ....... unless of course a gag can be fitted to said baby so as not to disturb others and blind fold & ear defenders to protect the baby from possible sensory overload
