Thanks for the tips / advice ladies. Wont be chasing him around any more! We do try and sit with him for one meal a day at teatime and he will eat when we are eating but only for a few minutes then insists on getting down form the big table as well (uses a stokke chair so same height etc as us) This stresses me as i know he hasnt eaten enough then winges he is hungry and tries to pull us from the table to go play or walk with him! He can use a fork but isnt great with a spoon yet which is why his nanny intervenes; he will not let me and daddy feed him which is what i am trying to change but now thinking of it maybe i should just let him get on with it and stop any of us trying to spoon feed him. He started solids late - he was born with cleft lip and palate so i couldn't really get him on decent solids till 1 year which was after his operation, otherwise it gets stuck in their palate and would choke) so maybe that has been detrimental to his development with cutlery. He is fine with a sippy cup. Nursery they sit together on low seats and eat. Not sure how he gets on but i only ever send him with finger food and the box is pretty much empty when he comes home, Hi Alilaslett....I can now fully understand why, and I would not be so concerned as it is only 5 months since he began to learn to feed himself. Your idea to have consistency across all his carers is the most important thing, AND let him see that he needs to feed himself or there will be no food, is a good plan...best wishes

"New to dubai"company which provides all the real info you need when moving here.....takes you on tours.......advises you in the first 6 months of living here....bit like EW but without the witches Relocation companies already provide this service, i.e. [url=http://www.equaterelocations.com/'>Equate Relocations[/url'> edited by Monkey Face on 06/03/2012 Not talking about a relocation company. Talking about a service to provide 6 months or so of help and advice...like this forum As I said, certain relocation companies provide this support - orientation services, help finding schools, assistance getting memberships/cards/connections, etc. but would they know the best place to go for a kebab, or where to find a red and white striped t shirt for a kids's costume day for example? More of a personal help than the initial schools, memberships etc like a concierge service - Orientations relocation company in Singapore provided such a service, a phone number to call.....for no extra charge

Hello ladies,, I'm thinking of starting small business in dubai,,, but i really need good ideas for it.. Something people need ? Service that not availble or availble but the market can accommdate more? Or product that not availble in Dubai and you will buy it? I'm really out of ideas since i feel everything is already there . Any idea will be really apreciated? yes...wheely bin cleaning, I would love someone to swing by and clean mine, no maid you see. There is a UK franchise called wheely bin cleaning company....aso the Second Cup (coffee shop) have franchises available, and kitchenware company called Pantry Magic I cannot believe this is a business ? Funniest thing I have heard all year!:) 'tis true. I used to have mine cleaned monthly for £1.75...they take the bin to a small van, which has all the washing equip in it, and then you can have it lined with a giant plastic bag if you like - weekly service available too i guess you'd need to hire 2 x unlikely lads to actually do the legwork! <em>edited by loube on 06/03/2012</em>

oh sorry, mine are a lot older now, but they were feeding themselves from 12 months by spoon and using fork and spoon by 18 months. I sat with them all meals, for choking reasons as much as anything and we ate one family meal together each day from about 20 months old. I think that putting the child in the chair gives them time to eat, BUT it reads like yours does not like the high chair and I expect at 17 months he is too big for it.....we had a booster seat which we attached to a regular chair at that point and then your child can join you at the meal table. They do need to understand the discipline of sitting at the table, and we liked to encourage that from day 1, but if your dining style is more casual then a more subtle approach is the way to go..... It maybe a phase anyway, and nursery/school will bring to the fore the idea of sitting at tables for eating....

Flippin heck... several already very sharp today :D I'm about as sharp as a proverbial wooden spoon today. Had a delivery of 1000 brochures for the company today and noticed that one or two were a bit mucky, so ended up having to go through every single box, sending back 300 so far, only 100 more to sift through for painted fingers and misaligned pages.... perhaps you should've got a knife to them, save you the time and energy..and then sent them back

I would advise you to strap him in the chair, over a splat mat and leave him with the spoon/fork and food...eventually he will eat it. Please do not worry, he will not starve. If you are worried, offer a snack mid morning and mid afternoon (grapes, mini crackers etc) Also instruct said Nanny that she is to do the same, no more feeding him herself..he is 1.5 years old and at this stage will be able to do that eventually, although it will be messy for a while. Only leave him in the chair for 20 mins max, then remove him, clean down and move on to the rest of the day. Good Luck! And no following him around the house with food, as he will only see it as someone else's job to do this for him. I do understand how you are feeling, but nature will not allow him to go hungry for long....is he holding his own drinking cup? I have 3 kids, so I have been there. <em>edited by loube on 04/03/2012</em>

my 5 bed villa takes one lady 2 x 4 hours, so she does upstairs one and downstairs the next, sometimes she can do windows on each level, or the outside patio areas but then the kitchen gets left (except floors)...I would love to have someone 3 x 4 hours then I think my villa would be spotless...leaving me to do grocery shop, cook, clean up, and the laundry. I do the ironing when my cleaner is in the house, so I do not feel I am tied to the house so much. I use Supermaid. <em>edited by loube on 02/03/2012</em>

to get an effective schedule going, house help really needs to begin the day at 7.30 am, so that they do a good 4 hours work, then are ready for morning break after 2 hours work and lunch break after 4 hours. Mine used to start 7.30am and end the day at 9pm BUT there were natural quiet times late afternoon and between dinner shifts <em>edited by loube on 02/03/2012</em>

we have ford edge and it was recommended to change after 60 k irrespective of years...so we did changed then only. The company personnel told us that due to heat and speed of the roads here tyres should always be changed when recommended by the company or the mechanic to prevent bursting of the tyres. edited by manubhadauria on 27/02/2012 I only have 17K miles on the clock to it's upsetting to have to replace them due to the age - they have sat in a garage showroom for the first 2 years of theor life as it is an ex-demonstrator.:( edited by jillp on 29/02/2012 this is making me think, that I will check tyre age when my next car purchase comes around, as it could be a negotiating point, they are not cheap to replace on some car models

My kids don't get pocket money. We give as and when required. They take a packed lunch from home. mine don't at the moment, ages 8, 10 and 12...but I am looking into it for the 12 year old.....as he is now managing his weekly snack money well (was not managing at all last term) I just don't believe in paying for them to do chores. They should always help around the house, but not in return for money, IMHO. Anyway, nobody can answer the question of how much to give. It depends on the expense of their hobbies (DD has a hobby of shopping in Paris Gallery, DS wants for nothing.....) and it depends on how much spare money you have to give. For me, the amount is always a sensitive area, as it is the multiplier effect of having 3 kids, as times goes on they will all join with the same thing, unless I have a lobotomy whilst moving countries (which has been known to happen) Regarding your comment about chores, IF we were living in UK, at 13 years children can do a paper round for pay...so many Brits feel that they want to give their own child a chance to earn some pocket money, and as these types of jobs are not available for young teens to take on in Dubai, parents look for a few 'paid-for' chores around the house to simulate the effect...hope you understand <em>edited by loube on 01/03/2012</em>

they will need to see your case to provide a quote, as it depends on how much moving of teeth there is to do, and this dictates how many sets of retainers etc you will need, and how long it will take Good Luck, I used Damon system for mine (not here though) ...self litigating braces, but invisalign is a great option too

Lifestyle over pay is an expression, I would still be paying above the monthly salary that many maids here receive. I would not be comfortable having someone work for me making less than acceptable wages. I realize there is always the risk that any maid with "free time" could go outside the agreed upon guidelines, but if I trust my home with this person, I should trust HER in general in my thinking. She is having her current sponsor cancel her visa at her contract renewal time in answer to transferring question. I have met her several times and had talked about hiring a maid at some point in order to be able to get a dog. I think that is why she felt comfortable approaching me. Ask yourself why are you considering employing her when you say yourself you do not really need/want one....what will a maid bring to your life? It can be a lot of stress/hassle. I think you feel sorry for her, and this is no basis/reason for hiring home help in the first instance. It will lead to resentment longterm, esp. if something goes wrong. It is a little odd that this maid has singled you out, as a potential employer...I would be very cautious indeed. also, are you sure you want a dog? <em>edited by loube on 28/02/2012</em>

If she does go to the UK then she wouldn't be left alone by the Syrians. Her parents were living in London, Acton area and they had to flee their home and her dad doesn't work in Cornwell hospital anymore. But like angelinaballerina said she knew what she was getting into. Dr. Fawaz Akhras - new doctor at City Hospital!!! Really!!! So they're here! Loube - We started with 50 Dirhams a month about a year or so ago. Before that she would get 10 Dirhams a week (if we remembered!). We upped it to 80 dirhams this months as we wanted to give her more financial responsibility. She particularly wanted to get something that we didn't think it was necessary for us to pay for but she is VERY keen to have. We thought that if she really wanted it so badly she could save and budget for it herself. On the 'job' list are things such as making bed, hanging washing out, emptying dishwasher, making a cup of tea (for someone else - not herself!), helping make dinner/lunch etc etc. As I said, each job is only worth 1 - 5 dirhams but it can soon add up if she really wants it to! .She also has 'from the heart' jobs - ie jobs that just help around the house for no monetary gain. The 15 dirhams for the car is for cleaning inside. thanks so much for your help, this feels like the right route for me....and I ilke the idea of 'from the heart' jobs

World Book day...fills me with a sense of dread...what character will the children choose...last year as the wimpy kids, 2 out of 3 wanted to be it - I only had one pair of black shorts and white t shirt..but we managed somehow...this year DS3 is on camp (yeehaaa, thank you to someone up there), DS2 said he hates dressing up, so he is in uniform and S1 is in Seniors and they do not take part in such silly things as dressing up as book characters!!!! Roll on September, DS2 moves into seniors, then I will only have 2 years left of dressing up my kids in daft costumes

"reasonable" By which you mean "cheap" and 'not quite good enough for me and my family but will do for the help'. beats sticking pins in your eyes NIP, does it not? :) Yes!! Suze 63 I meant cheaper than the clinics at the Ranches or at Motor city which is AEd 400 just for consultation besides the meds. Atleast I didnt consider taking her to a pharmacy for over the counter meds. Some of you ladies need to hold your thoughts and daggers before knowing the background. And if I as a "madam" was that bad an employer guess she wouldnt be with me for 5 years now, would she?? you're right to seek a reasonably priced place, if it is serious then the costs can escalate, so starting off with a low base is very sensible... <em>edited by loube on 27/02/2012</em>

you could offer yourself 'free' for 6 months, like an intern type position to gain some ME experience....but linked in is the other good place to advertise This would be tempting to a company, no? Administratively, what would a company have to do to get her in? Would be good for her to know as well - she can then offer this option to them. No idea, been here 7 months, BUT she could approach one and test the waters, I would think it would not be under the employment law radar tho'....

this is how you tell the age of the tyre http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11 just checked mine and all four have code 4708, which means tyre made in 47th week, of year 2008 - so looks like I will need 4 new ones before re-registration of my vehicle However it does not account for the wearing and the tread depth, which should be checked on each service <em>edited by loube on 27/02/2012</em>
