Nooo you MUST go and make the complaint! Wat if everyone just thinks it's not worth the hassle? Then these guys will get away with their behavior and then nothing will change. I and some friends have made complaints for several reasons and RTA has always take the issue seriously and acted. So please don't think it's not worth it, because it is. We are all entitled to good service while taking a taxi and not be taken for a ride (literally). I think he shouldn't have paid, but if the cops tell you to do so, do it. But then, if he refused to give the receipt in order for you to get the money back, don't pay. Let him call the cops again. edited by Marroosh on 27/01/2013 I have complained twice and the RTA do take it seriously One taxi refused to take me as the trip was too short apparently. SZR to Tecom short and the second one nearly took me out on a pedestrain crossing. He was speeding and did not stop The RTA were great please do complain and let us know how you get on Thanks

Wednesday genius, I feel the same. No matter how long I have been here or will stay, I don't do the whole shake down bit, sorry. It is none of these peoples business what I pay in rent, where my husband is, or anything else. Yes they asked. Going into to rooms to look around how else you can "help" me while I'm showing you what's leaking doesn't sit well with me. When I say no and you argue, less points there, too. Why was I uncomfortable? I was. I tip because they are inclined to, not when I'm pressured to. People going above and beyond, or delivery, etc, but I don't tip people to be aggressive with me in my own home. At 8pm I was in my jammies as that's nearly bedtime...and 7 hours after promised appointment. Sheesh...being American, I probably tip too often and too much. My prerogative though, eh? They asked you this? Really? Have never been asked that in all my years here. If you feel they were aggressive then yes you should call and speak to their supervisor. You did ask " What do you do, am I a stingy bitty? . You can rail against the system all you want here but that is the way they are sometimes - just learn to deal with these situations - you either tip or you don't but don't then feel bad. Coming from a country where tipping isnt the norm i will only tip if given exceptional service

My husband has started work at a horrendously dodgy school and has been offered another job in Qatar. He has been in the bad job for 4 weeks and has not yet signed a contract. His RP is due in a few days. If he does not sign the contract, will he need an NOC from the school to work in Qatar? Or once his RP is through, is he basically at the mercy of the school's owner? Has he been sponsored yet? blood test, visa approval etc?

We came to Dubai through my husband's employer and am on a visa sponsored by them. I recently was hired on by a company and needed to provide my attested degrees, etc. for them to obtain my labour card. I was told by HR that the company only reimburses visa-related expenses and not those associated with obtaining the labour card. Does anyone know if this is in accordance with UAE Labour Law? If not, where can I find a copy of the law? It was quite expensive for us to obtain those attestations and it doesn't seem right to me that I should cover that cost as it would have been the same to get them for a visa as for a Labour Card--the cost is the same regardless. Thank you! Personally speaking most people pay for the attestation of their own paperwork however visa/labour card should be covered by employer. I had to do my own and i have never come across a company that would pay for the attestation, You should bear those costs as the OP stated

Michelle, what your maid is doing (working part-time for someone else) is illegal in the UAE and you as the sponsor could get fined to the tune of 100,000 AED! You need to cancel her visa and send her home immediately. I don't have personal experience, but this forum provides a lot of useful information on the subject. Search "maid visa cancel" and you will get a number of old threads that can be useful to you. Good luck. Wise words and if she is as bad as you say do not pass her on to anyone else to deal with

I can't understand why you would want to take your 15 year old to a movie that has been censored for adults only at 18+ - it seems to be sending the wrong message - "it is OK to flaunt the law". didn't most of us do this as teens? Many of the 18's here are 15's in the UK - hence why I don't see it is a problem for my DDs. We used to sneak in, not for anything rude etc it was part of growing up and ARGO should not be an 18 in my opinion

I remember my first trip home to Oz and I went to the petrol station and sat in my car for ages waiting for the attendant to come, he didnt arrive! Finally realising I need to do this myself got out filled up, paid and then jumped into the car to leave - I got in the passengers seat (left hand drive in oz). The family in the car behind me were in hysterics when I got out and ran around the other side to drivers. The same happened to me the 1st year home haha

Don't know if this will help you but early last year I had to put together a list of what it would cost to set up a 3 bedroom apartment for 2 adults and 1 teenager - right down to the potato peeler. I priced items mostly at Ikea with a few items that I wanted better quality from Crate and Barrel and some similar stores. Anyway the total cost came to AED175000. It can't be that high, surely? I live in a 3-bedroom apartment and though I didn't furnish it all at once, mentally calculating what we spent on each room, it must have been much less than that for me. But who knows, I guess these expenses just creep up. Most of my furniture is from Home Centre, Ikea, etc. I know that is nearly 30 grand UK wowza

A few weeks ago someone wrote on a thread that they gave their maid 6,000AED, she worked 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, and she also got 2 paid package holidays to the Seychelles (?) with spenders for her and her family. Sure it wasn't true but funny nevertheless. Wish I could find it lol edited by Alismum on 23/01/2013 It was someone taking the **** and the thread was deleted. I would do that haha

I usually read books first but shall download them to the Kindle this weekend There is too much on UK and US TV to watch at the moment. I have become a tv addict! Season 3 31.03.2013

but have you compared to shutting them off? I read some of the stories here on how high their dewa bill (we are still waiting for our 1st one..aaarrrggghhh), so I started to turning the heaters off during the day etc..but no idea if it makes a difference..I it only is gone save me a few AED, then not worth the trouble... Sorry yes i have hardly any difference I think the high dewa bills are due to the A/C but we dont pay cooling charge where we live

I gave all that up & now I use shellac & love it! It doesn't make your nails longer, but the polish lasts a full 2 weeks. It doesn't damge your natural nails, and even adds a tiny bit of strength. It's the best! Im a gellish convert and used to be a gel/acrylic lady back in the day So many colour options, shorter time to do and better on nails

Hi everyone, ready for the loooong weekend? Have this discussion with my DH now already long time and not sure who is right to be honest ...so thought put it on here...as you ladies always know best! Here it goes: (warning!! it is pretty boring) When do you save the most: 1.leaving your water hearters on all the time, then the heater is always on, but never has to heat from cold to warm or 2.shut the heaters off and put them on when you need them, when you put it on, you will have to heat from cold water to hot, which uses a lot of energy and maybe is not worth it.. Tell me what you think ladies! TBH i leave mine on all of the time and my bills dont change ( If they do it is only a few AED a month)

Am not classifying teachers as the same, was just an observation that surprised me and didn't expect these responses! Don't we all want our children to be safe? Probably more likely to be rammed with a trolley or hit by a 4X4 here and dont get me started on how they got to spinneys. Far more dangerous than coffee

ha ha, I especially like it when I say- "do you have this dress in a 12 in the back? there's none on the rack-" then they say - "sure mamm I'll just check" *proceeds to check the rack - "no honestly I've just looked through there, there definitely arent any 12's" "oh, no mamm no 12's" "ok but what about in the back?" "No mamm" (without looking) guurrrrrr. this happens FREQUENTLY Better than; "no mam; you tooooooooo faaaaaat for 12" That happened to me when i asked her for a size 10, she said maaaaaaam 10 too small for you, i said just get it, thankfully it did fit so i went out to show her and will not repeat what i said to her that reduced her into an apologetic mess!

Sabash, first of all advertising here is not allowed. Second, if you are not working for a legally registered company, or don't have a trade license for a company yourself, and putting all your contacts online, you risk serious trouble. If I were you, I would remove my post very quickly. I was about to say the same :-)

Yesterday - Me: do you have this bra in 36E. Shop Assistant: No ma'am we have 36B, you want to try? Me: No, thanks??!! Shop Assistant: We have this one really nice, 36A, you want to try? REALLLLY?!!!!!?? I just walked out. I've had that too from the bra fitter in M&S. She could see no problem in giving me a wrong size bra because it was actually the same size as the one I asked for, according to her. I told her women should not be wearing bras of the wrong size and that she should know that. I got the usual insipid smile in return. Shoe shops are just as idiotic. They see nothing wrong in offering you shoes a few sizes smaller because they don't have them in your size. I ask them to bring me a saw? Saw they say and i say yes to chop my toes off as a 5 will not fit!

I've been interviewing maids (or sometimes the other way around, ja!) and it seems there is a pattern with all the candidates: they work for British families, they want 2.300 dhs and they dont know how to cook! seriously, what is going on?????? They work for British families, dont do the cooking and get paid AED2300 Even maids have a preference now :-)

She questioned this and the sales assistant just smirked and said take it up with head office Clothes, perfume, toiletries, makeup etc are so much more than the UK I get my friends to bring things over or buy in bulk when i am home, it saves me a fortune

oh man, great advice!! I love the confidentiality clause aspect and I will sooooo use this in the future. unfortunately I already answered one job's requirement to know my current, but this was to the recruiter only, and its for my second choice position anyways. would it be appropriate to ask the recruiter not to share with the client? or its probably too late for this one? Perhaps ask them to divulge your expectation only, at least then you are being honest and transparent which will help them send/review your profile for the correct roles and the potential employer knows the correct information too
