No comparison at all. JESS is highly sought after with very long waiting lists. Fees in primary are 30-38K Winchester has much bigger classes. Fees in primary are 9-12.5K Does highly sort after with long waiting lists represent the standard of education provided in a school in Dubai? Can that really be used as a comparison? Does a bigger class mean the education provided is not as good as a school with smaller classes? JESS has an excellent reputation as a school many of my friends children attend It is highly sought after based on the level of education it provides I believe it is also non profit however as the other poster said getting children into it is not easy unless you have a sibling attending or debenture

I've only had my brand new car for a couple of weeks now and got into my first accident. I'm still shaky and sick to my stomach. I've been driving for 14 years and this is my first accident. I just feel so horrible. It's all my fault. I have the pink slip. My question is do I have to go to the garage the insurance company told me to go to? I read AAA, AtoB and other garages in Al Quoz are pretty good. One side of the bumper is totally damaged and head light is scratched. I'm sure this is going to cost another fortune. Should I just go around and get quotes? Will they be able to give me quotes right away? Do I have to leave the car there? I'm sorry rambling and all over the place. Bless you, ring the insurers and they will direct you The 1st one is always the worst.

I heard there is a serum out by Kerastase in a gold bottle that you massage into your wet scalp after washing. Its pricey but has anyone tried it? The salon gave it rave reviews but I am curious to hear from others. apparently it works from the root. I have the Blu filter and have not noticed much of a difference in myself but I do see a difference in my toddler daughters. thier skin is not as dry as before and the scalp is not peeling. I use all the Kerastase products and avoid shop bought ones like the plague as they contain a similar ingredient to soap which dries my hair terribly. I have very fine hair and never thought i ever shed alot but recently i have seen more in the shower and on the floor! The serum is pricey and i used it when i had my extensions it however it lasted for forever I think L'oreal make a cheaper version ( Only seen it in UK though) and it was around 10GBP to buy

The trouble is I do not have a degree. I 'mislaid' my UK O level results certificate some years ago and the local authority do not keep the records as far back as 1985. edited by jacquihh on 14/03/2013 Can you not get a replacement copy directly from the Examination Board? It is a nightmare to apply for O Level and GCSE certificates It took them forever to find mine and i had to apply to 3 boards

I like the sound of this, I am just about prepared to brush hair and change from PJ's and no more The last 2 times i have been to Saffron there has been a punch up and chavvy Brits drunk and disorderly ( I am from the UK) horrid place but nice food Im never going there again .. I went a couple of weekends ago and some girls were so drunk, they were up on the tables dancing and one of them was wafting her skirt and lifted it right up exposing her underwear ! the waiters had to literally pull her off the tables. as we were leaving somone had scribbled a picture of a will&y on the board complete with scraggly pubes on the balls ... im not paying 100 quid to see that when I can watch Geordie Shore ! Hahahahaha they did make me laugh I was told unofficially that they have started watering the spirits down as people were getting paralytic. I miss the old Dubai days :-(

It really gets quite wild in there, I wouldn't suggest it if you want a relaxed casual brunch. Plus, when I went I was wearing a maxi dress (a nice one, not one you go to the beach in) and I felt really under dressed!! Everyone was glam!! The Talk at Movenpick JBR is relaxed, good food, about 300dhs each, but I'm not sure if vodka is included, think it is just wine beer and cocktail of the day. Have a look on the Time Out website, you will find lots of suggestions :-) Dressed up to the nines and usually falling off their heels by 3pm ;-)

My mum who has been living in this part of the world for over 60 years (she is 82) always has a supply of "pinki" i.e. Potassium Permanganate in the house. Just soak the fruits and veggies in a tub of water with a pinch of the stuff and voila in a few minutes your food is fit for human consumption. Just dont leave it too long or the veggies will lose their colour & flavour.....dont know all the details but we never had any problems. .....by the way Pinki is also part of the diplomtic survival kit given to its employees travelling to "suspect" regions. we used to sell it as an antisceptic and the pharmacist i worked with swore by it

ladies , what is the most effective product for laughing lines and frown lines besides botox and fillers. i have tried everything under the sun but it doesnt go away - doesnt help that i am in my mid 30s i dont think any shop bought creams will get rid of frown and laughter lines regardless of what the advertisements tell us. I do have Botox however being 41 my skin has never been too lined. I wear sunscreen every day, keep my face out of the sun, eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water and get lots of sleep. I use the age range of dermalogica which make my skin brighter I think genetics and lifestyle/envoironment play a huge part in our skin

Anyone advise me on the procedire? TIA Can you not just take it for repair ( if it is minor) the police tend to give you the pink slip which means you have to pay the excess This happened to my frony bumper and the car separaters in the mall carpark

Hi, does anyone know (i know that there are a lot of children performing from here) if the show is suitable for a 3yr old? I called the box office and they were suitably vague and said its for all the family. Having had a bad experience in the past with older DS, i dont want to take them to something that is not age appropriate...any insights would be gratefully recieved! Thanks My colleague and friend said children are perfoming in it She is taking her kids who are 5 and 7

Ok, thanks Polly. So they early payment thing is like if you want to do a lump sum, I guess it would only be allowed once or twice a year (from what I gather on their site) so I would be better off putting the extra aside until I have a bigger amount and paying it in a lump sum. 1% of remaining is not so bad I guess. I think they front load the interest so if you pay it off too early it costs too much Towards the end it becomes cheaper. I would let it run its course however ask them what it would cost to settle early at certain stages

Lets simplify this: Body scrub/Moroccan bath - disposable undies Therapeutic massage - no undies if you want one of the strongest muscles in your body (the one helps support your back and legs) massaged, wear undies if you want it skipped (if you want them to massage it through undies then you'll probably have to ask) Sports massage - just uncover areas being worked on, for manipulation you may not even need to uncover anything Thai massage - wear loose cotton clothing And don't worry unless you have a problem with your coccyx they won't even see your butt crack they use the sheet to wrap around you like a thong. Here is some information about massage draping (beware contains some nudity): http://cmabw.com/wordpress/2011/massage-draping/ For the record I'm a bit of a prude and won't be having a Brazilian anytime soon. edited by RuthM on 12/03/2013 Why do we need it simplified? It's each person's individual preference. Sorry I thought you said: It is actually the code of many of the best spas here that underwear is a MUST - the ones they provide. I must be mistaken. edited by RuthM on 12/03/2013 I have been to many spas and only one has said everything off however she didnt go downtown if you know what i mean. After living in Germany for many years i am no longer prudish

What about stuff like kid sunscreen, kid swimsuits??? Also do I need to pack warm/winter clothes or do I just leave them here?? Does anyone wear boots in Dubai? Sunscreen's cheap here and masses of choice. Plenty of swimwear etc but not sure how prices compare.. Yes you'll need a cardigan or jumper for when you go out in the evenings for a couple of months of the year..I also brought a pair of jogging bottoms for indoors when it gets " chilly"... I don 't wear boots anyway but yes I've seen women wear them... Sunscreen is cheaper at home I get my friends to bring me facial makeup wipes nivea are expensive here Silvikrin hairspray 40 denier tights for our winter months ( my office is an ice box) Makeup i wear all the time ( cheaper in UK) Washing powder gels/caps etc massively overpriced here P@@k items stock up on b@@on and saus22ges lol I miss Tescos! As for winter clothes i wear boots in the winter months Some of the malls are freezing in Jan/Feb Leave you big coats/hats/scarves at home though

Hi, I came to Dubai 5 days ago, and I just cannot fell asleep. In my home I was sleeping like 10-12 hours per day, and just last night I have slept 4 hours. I am exhausted, tired and battery low :( I don´t suffer from any kind of depression or mental disorder (that I am aware of :)) I might be a little stressed because I have change an environment, but I have lived abroad a lot, so it has never been a problem for me before. And might be the bed, but at the moment, I can´t change it, so I need some good pills, without seeing a doctor, because I have a job interview, and I need to be fresh and relaxed. Thank you Panadol night

Banks use agencies who specialise in debt recovery. I have no idea what the minimum debt is but a few months ago the police turned up at someone's home in the UK.He had a debt of less than 30,000dhs.If there are more than one to go about prosecuting, it is worthwile for the banks to go even for the small fish. It all adds up in the end.As a result of these absconders, those left here end up paying more to borrow money. Debt in the UK is a civil matter. If anyone turned up claiming to be the police, they, not the debtor, were guilty of a criminal offence. Debts incurred abroad can be sold on to debt collectors in the UK but they have no legal power to recover it. Usually they use threats of court procedure and in the case of less reputable agencies, sometimes worse..........which is most definitely illegal. Thats what i thought also. Imagine if they had the power to do this, a search through the voters role or FB would turn up most of the culprits

No I didn't get a 12 month notice. I have just been told that those are my rights but the owner told us we had to move out and had us sign some document that we would vacate the house no later than a specific date which gave us 3 month notice. (that is exactly the rules in my home country so i didn't think of it when signing the papers) Oh dear. It is a shame that you did not read all the stuff in the press regarding this Can you not at least phone or visit the rent committee to see what you rights are? you never know unless you act and what he has done is illegal therefore signing it may not be valid. Worth a try perhaps

We live in a JVT villa and the owner has just sold it so we need to move out. We would like to move to an apartment 2-3 bedrooms and pay monthly. Where is the best place to get an apartment paid monthly for a family of four? My thinking is limited to JBR, Marina, JLT and Greens. Are there any other or perhaps new areas you could point out for us? Monthly cheques arent the easiest to find. The lowest i have ever managed to get in the Greens is 12. Try and go direct to LL, if you drive around the Greens you will only see the Hamptons signs you rarely if ever see signs for apartments to let there Did you LL give you the required 12 months written and notarised letter for you to vacate If he/she hasnt the contract will role onto the next owner they cannot just chuck you out with a few months notice as it is illegal and the rent committee will advise you of this

I know of someone who absconded to their home country (Sri Lanka) leaving behind bank debts. Apparently the bank here did send someone to search for them in Sri Lanka but they gave up when they thought that he was not there. I am not sure if it was just the bank here who sent someone or if the authorities here contact those there, as I have not got a good idea of how these things work. Do they ever write these things off? Do they send people if it is a small amount or do they not bother chasing? Would we be able to find out if there is a warrant for this person? Would a visa be issued for this person (only for them to be arrested upon entry?). Sorry, so many questions, and No, I do not condone this behavior. Thousand of people did it post 2009, cars abandoned, loans, c/c I know of several people who fled and 4 yrs later no-one as caught up with them I doubt there would be a warrant outstanding however i do not think anyone who absconed would return to Dubai and face the risk of being arrested

Thanks all, for a so called world class international airport, I find it sadly lacking. As the first impression for many, it leaves a lot to be desired. However, I'm collecting my daughter and it's going to be GREAT (once she gets through) :) I believe His Royal Highness has asked for more staff to be put on to cover the busy periods Personally i feel the wait isn't as bad as some airports i have been too ( I have queued for over 3 hours in the US) imagine processing all the expats that visit here.

Hello, Sorry I haven't checked the thread for a few days. What i'm hoping to find about is the following: 1) Do you know which hospitals have a stroke unit? 2) What hours do physios work in hospitals there? Is part time an option? 3) I'm an Australian trained physio. Do i need a licence? 4) Are female physios only allowed to treat female patients? 5) Structure of the healthcare system i.e. is there rehab options post acute stay? 6) Is physio valued in the Dubai healthcare system? Any info would be much appreciated! Many thanks. Perhaps contact Rashid Hospital Trauma unit My understanding is that you would have to be licenced by the ministry of health to practice here I do have a contact at Rashid it is a Western organisation that recruit for them but for the life of me i cannot find the email with the contact details on. i will try and rack my brain for you
