Hi, I am planning to do a CIPD diploma course in Dubai and was wondering if anyone has done any of the courses offered here by the 2 prominent service providers apart from Middlesex University. If yes, please let me know how your experience has been with them. It would greatly help me take a decision to choose between them. Many thanks ! International house and Bradfield do them

Some people spend their entire time on FB "sharing" meaningful / spiritual quotes, raising awareness of worldwide tragedies, broadcasting their own propaganda (be it healthy eating, saving bunny rabbits, protecting the environment) and yes, writing these guilt laden messages which are of no use to anyone and don't reflect anyone's true and sincere feelings. Send her a private message or have a phone call with her to tell her you care and are there for her. Your response to an impersonal message on Fb should have no bearing on your standing as a friend. My friends call it crackbook ( addictive) bragbook ( speaks for itself) I get so many of these "share posts" and i just delete them. I lost my Mum many years ago to cancer however i believe certain things need to remain private. If i want to discuss private things with my friends/family i pick up the phone not share it to the world on FB.

wow! Both of us work and I have a 2 month old baby.......Juggling our schedules for such a long time sounds difficult. I thought it was a simple process. Phew! It depends how busy they are. They were incredibly slow when we were there. It was so frustrating as we watched them go off on breaks, sit around chatting etc etc If you wait for an appointment it is much quicker

I have the Emirates ID card papers typed out. The typist asked me to take our nanny to an Emirates ID card centre for the ID card registration before I can go to DNRD for the visa stamping. Her visa papers are typed out and medical cleared. Can I take her to any Emirates ID card branch including the Al Barsha one? I heard once you get the papers typed, you have to wait for an sms for an appointment. Is this true or can I take her to the centre tomorrow itself? If you take her there may be a queue. It opens very early i believe When we went in the Summer we queued from 6am-3pm and then were served You are alloted a number when you go in and served on a number basis

Where is she from? Depends on the time of day or night I have flown through the airport however it is between 10pm-2pm the queues can be horrific so i would say no and remember the walk from the plane to immigration is very long unless the bus brings her in

Hi,not sure if it covers dental work.We are from the UK and not high lifestyle living family. My DH is on 50k per year over here but in the 40% tax.So we are just not sure it would be worth giving that up for less wage but tax free. 18k for a Western Construction Supervisor plus 100k HRA and car is low The only thing Tax free in Dubai is salary Food is more expensive Petrol is cheaper but you have to pay Salik ( if used) food and alcohol is more expensive Clothing, toiletries, perfume are more expensive Your utilities are covered which good however the average schooling costs for a British child here could be anything from 36 per year per child

Same price but on flight is much narrower selection, only a few items really. I usually buy my cosmetics at dubai airport. There won't be good duty free at arrival to the uk, only at departure. Agree although i found booze cheaper here than in UK duty free

Morning, thanks for all of the feedback it has help us.I would just like to add that the offer from the company covers all household bills (not TV)paid and company car but I would need a car as well.We have two children aged 6 and 5.We were hoping to be saving about 20 thousand pounds a year but this amount seems like its not possible. It will be a push to live comfortably on this If you hire a car you are looking at at least another 1500-2000AED per month for that Schooling can be expensive however it depends on the school Where is your Husband from and what is his nationality? ( Sorry to ask this but i may be able to comment on whether the salary is competitive.

Womens feet are getting bigger. I am a size 41 and get fed up of asking for my size and an assistant brings me a 39 to try. When they do this i ask for a saw as the only way they will fit is to chop my toes off??? I think they think that all women here are a clothing size 6 and have size 4 feet!

It depends on where you go The larger and more popular the salon the higher the cost I used to pay 550 for half head highlights only, i now only pay 300 and my t section only is 120. I would buy a shop bought colour however not many places sell light blond unfortunately

It takes a photo whenever someone gets the unlock password wrong and then sends that photo to a predetermined email address. Aah i see thank you

You are right, its strange how things differ from country to country. Pregnancy regulations should be common everywhere, we are not living in space! hehe One more thing..Are you obliged to visit for a scan every single month if your baby is in good condition? I am asking as in the UK, I remember i only went for about 4 or 5 scans throughout my whole first pregnancy. The Doc here told me that "In Dubai we scan you every month" True or False? Mums to be seem to have alot more scans here than in the UK If it doesnt cost you anything, gives you peace of mind and you get to see Bubba why not. I do not think you are obliged too

How old is too old? I just interviewed a 50 year old maid who looks like she is in her late 30's. Anyway she was great with DS. Hes never smiled or laughed at anyone but me and DH till now and he was very happy around her. Of course I'd interview her again but initial meeting seemed good. She was honest that shes turned down positions where the employer has 5 bedroom plus villas because its too much work for her but as the same time she felt suited to a smaller family and still seemed very energetic. Shes degree educated in Nutrition and seemed very good person to have around the house. I'm a bit weary of having a very young maid due to experience. Is she too old? I dont think so, age is nothing but a number and if she is young in mind and seems energetic then go for it. You may have less problems with an older maid than a younger one

Very confused mum-to-be (again) So it's my second pregnancy but first in Dubai and I am terribly confused about many things as I know many are at first! Firstly the Obs/Gyn that I saw last week put me on 5mg of Folic Acid..way more than what I was on when I was pregnant with my first (in London, the Dr put me on 400mcg). Everything is normal and I have no history of defects etc..why 5mg??? I questioned this and the Dr replies "oh thats normal dont worry" Isit normal??? I have started researching which Ob to stick with but I have no clue..any recommendations? Although I'm insured, the consulatations etc are deducted from my maternity fund so I dont want to be left with 0AED when it's time to deliver.. Help please! Thanks a million.. I have added a response for you above As you have had no issues in your previous pregnancy you should not be taking 5mg. Doctors tend to overprescribe here. You should only be taking 400mcgs

Although I'm insured, the consulatations etc are deducted from my maternity fund so I dont want to be left with 0AED when it's time to deliver.. Help please! Thanks a million.. Dosages over 1mg need to be taken under medical supervision In the UK it usually is 400mcg per day although America do prescribe slightly higher but never over 1mg unless there has been a problem in previous pregnancies Most women will only need up to 400 to 500 ug (or 0.4 to 0.5mg) of folic acid supplements a day. However, a few women may be advised to take a higher daily dose of 5,000 ug (or 5mg). This is generally the case for women who have had a previous child with a neural tube defect, or who have a close relative that has had a baby with a neural tube defect. Doses of folic acid this high should only be taken under medical supervision. A blood test to rule out vitamin B12 deficiency should ideally be performed before you start to take higher, daily doses of folic acid. The reasons for this are discussed below in 'Too much folic acid.'

I could be totally wrong, but if the OP was on a Dubai visa, and the new company would sponsor her on a free zone visa, bets are off, correct? I am not saying it is ethical to go work for a competitor, but depending on her field, many companies could be deemed a "competitor" Yes, exactly... difficult to define competitor... I only had one client who enforced this and advised that they would take the employee and her new employee to court ( FZ based company) Although as the OP's have advised, it is difficult and costly to enforce as an employer has to prove that they have lost money as a result of this.

Additional benefits are usually only flight and medical Salaries can be anything from 5-10,000AED however bear in mind there are hundreds of Secretaries/Office Managers around and most of them will have UAE experience. Most companies start to write their budgets at the end of the year She's a Company Secretary. That has nothing to do with admin. Your basically a company lawyer even though the title is misleading. In UAE they prefer company secretaries that can speak Arabic, have UAE experience and its mostly males who get the job. Really? All the company secretaries i have placed in the last 6 years in recruitment have been Female and non Arabic speakers.

I had this in the UK with an ex boss. I had caught chicken pox at the age of 21 from my darling Nephew and my boss wanted me to stand outside his place of work so he could see that i was telling the truth! Covered in scabs. oh nice! Because that's such a common thing for 21 year olds--lol--how could you "fake" chicken pox?? I handed in the aforementioned sick note along with my resig notice and told this last one to get bent! Haha love it... Did you get your tape?

My DH is also intent on getting a Pajero, or a Prado next year. Patrol would also be a good choice, or the FJ, as mentioned. Like others have said, they have good resale value and the A/C works quite well. There is a definite reason they are so popular. No heated debate in this house though, he is paying for it--he can get a purple spaceship for all I care. Can i bag a lift in the purple spaceship? beats getting stressed on SZR each day!
