Been googling away for ages trying to find out where to stand exactly but without luck, with my little ones going bonkers as I focus on the PC, I thought I'd get a quicker answer from EW. Thanks louisedvs for your reply. I could just go to Habtoor Grand or Barasti, but I was looking for the official spot to watch it from. The dropzone is the official place to watch it, it is to the left of Barasti edited by louisedvs on 29/11/2012

Also; i bin CVs that have spelling / grammar / typo / formatting issues - especially for a PA. Me too, text speak and dodgy photos go in the above too. Please, if you put a picture on i want a business head shot not you out on the town! Why ever not? Don't you want to see what someone looks all dolled up? Also; would clean up your facebook too - many people check that when they look to interview you. I have seen some awful pics in my time with far too much flesh exposed. People sitting behind a desk, behind a computer, on the phone hilarious

I don't know if it's night racing - I can't hear it at night (thank goodness). It's just all day long. No, I wasnt here during the boom, sounds like it's a good thing I wasn't :) Was it the building at Motor City that was noisy then? I lived in the Marina during 2008 and it was awful!

Hi all, I live in the Ranches (Palmera) which is not even directly opposite Motor City and the car noise has been driving me mad the last few days. I have never noticed it before but the last three days has seemed like it has been going on constantly? How do the people in Motor City deal with it?? I live across from the play park in the Ranches and once I close my doors, I can't even hear the children. But with doors closed - I'm still hearing the racing. xx Isnt the night racing on at the moment? I think most people wear earplugs as this is only once a year. Were you here during the construction boom as that was noisy as all the time

Not easy working full time, lesson timings are rare as well as the theory classes... But since I am not the most patient person, I would probably the crazy chick tailgating everyone in the fast lane flashing them out of the way.. You would regret ever encouraging me to get my license.. :p Like the lady this morning that almost ended up in my boot, flashing me to move on SZR when the traffic ahead had come to a standstill. The look on her face was priceless when i got out ( traffic had completed stopped) and went over to her car. She went red and wouldnt look at me! Uhm no I would be able to see the difference between moving and not moving traffic lol.. I am a 4th lane driver, avoid the fast lane and to be honest in the 4th you end up overtaking all the other lanes as they stop and start Lol so you and I will never meet then :P Nope haha Woopsies, that's way too much quoting, I expect the EW Police Quote Dept. to tell me off very soon :p Naughty step for you!

Hi Ladies! I am in a bit of a pickle. My nanny is going on leave for 1 month and I work full time. I trust her currenlty to take care of the baby in the day. What options do I have for childcare that lasts only a month? I don't think a nursery is an option but I am not sure. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do for childcare for a month? Thanks in advance!! Agency nanny perhaps?

louisedvs is correct. In Satwa there is a shop called Murad Boutique. It's upstairs in Al Ghazal Mall (same one as Mr. Bens) I've used them recently for tux hire and they were cheaper than The Wedding Shop in the Jumeira Centre on Beach Road. They even delivered them! Thanks for the name :-)

Sorry for the boring topic! DH's work place is shutting down at the end of the year and he will be out of a job. We would really like to stay on in Dubai so he will be looking for work here and Abu Dhabi in the first instance. If the Company shuts down and the trading license is not renewed (up in January) will we have to leave in 30 days? We have rent paid up until May and medical until August so ideally we would like to stay on here and keep looking for work. Are we allowed to do visa runs? Any information much appreciated. What passports do you hold? If you are on the list of approved nationals you can however if not you have a 30 day grace period once the visa is cancelled and then you have to exit Dubai

I will need to have a sponsor for a residents visa, does anyone know of any company who are currently recruiting. If so please can you let me know :) All help is much appreciated Do you have UAE experience in the above? We dont see many part time roles to be honest and most companies will sponsor you ( Unless they want someone on Dad's?Husbands visa) then only a labor card is required

What i don't understand is when people change lanes etc they dont realise there is a blind spot and look over their shoulder aswell as use their mirrors. The amount of drivers who dont look and pull out is in the hundreds I don't mind driving here as i did an advanced course with the military in very bad weather! You get to know exactly what a driver in front or beside you will do.

Would the cinema staff take any action if they were informed? They did when i had a family in front of me that talked through the entire film, ate soooo noisily, we are talking chomping and slavering through food. It was disgusting, they got up halfway to replenish their picnic. I complained to them and the staff and they were told to be quiet.

So, belatedly found out yesterday about Opera in the Park tonight, and needless to say it's already sold out :( Having already set my heart on a picnic tonight, however, I thought I'd drag DH and the iPod off somewhere for a home-made version. Problem is, I'm a bit short on ideas. Would prefer a grassy spot where we can chill out, preferably away from traffic, kids, mosquitoes and dogs. Any suggestions? TIA :) Safa Park Barsha Park

at 5 I used to get into my sons bed with him and read him Roald Dahl books. he loved me reading them because he used to say ' I can see the pictures in my head ' When he got to 6 he used to sit there with the book and follow the words whilst I was reading them and he would eventually take over and finish the book. When he is sick now he always tells me to get into bed with him and read him a Roald Dahl book ... Ooooh they brought back memories of me and my Mum :-)

Does anyone know if these are available here in Dubai? My son has tried one at home and feels they are a good option for quitting. Nope they are banned Thanks, that will save me looking. It's a shame as it has helped my son quit. I know and considering how harmful cigarettes are it is a joke My colleague uses them however he buys them online in the UK and brings them back with him when he is in the Uk

Hi ladies DD is starting to get the hang of stringing together and sounding out very simple words, she playacts with books pretending to read, and it seems to me she would probably like to do the real thing by herself. Can you recommend any books that really helped your child to get ahead with their self reading? I am looking at getting the Dr. Seuss series, are there others similar or better? She is 5. ETA: I do read to her and she repeats my words line by line because she wants to read herself, in case anyone is wondering. I just feel like she wants to move ahead independently in this aspect and doesnt like being read to as much as she'd enjoy reading by herslef out loud. edited by Redrec Tangle on 28/11/2012 I am not sure if these would be too old for her by anything by Enid Blyton. I loved her books when i was young

I'd like to tell you that for your age you should be a bit more respectful. I think you've lived quite enough already to learn basic rules of conducts such as turning off your phone, or at least put it in silent mode while you are at a movie screening. You even picked up the phone several times and had conversations bothering all the rest of us who were trying to watch the movie. Next time, if you are not interested, just leave the place, but don't ruin other people's movie. Thanks Does anyone else fantasise about getting up to go to the loo and spilling a big box of popcorn or coke down the back of their neck if they're sitting in front of you. I do the shush thing in their face They should block the signals here

It is illegal for you to have even started without them having processed a temporary work permit / visa. If there is any spot check it is YOU who is liable as well as the company. They sound super shady - do you have any of your original hours and salary agreement in writing? You should sign contract before you even start and then they are legally bound to stick to this. Sorry to say but you might even end up with no pay for the work you have already done. Walk out now. Are you aware that most of the companies here have people working for them before processing their visas? It might be illegal, but it's a common practice. We are all aware it is common practice however if the MOL do a spot check and they have walked into our office many times over the years then it is a fine and for some nationals deportation. What is to stop a company not paying you, reducing your salary. You cannot complain to MOL as you do not have a visa. Personally i would avoid these companies like the plague.

Yes, I think it also depends on your salary expectations. I know quite a few people who having receptionist roles out here, but payment is only about 3K to 4K AED a month. What about Emirates? That could be suitable for your job skills? crikey ours pay 8-12k

Okay. Well I can imagine then how hard it must be for you. These types of positions are mainly filled by "Non Westeners" as they pay a pittance. Perhaps you could contact a few of the "upmarket" stores and see if there are any vacancies. I know places like Zara, Massimo Dutti etc hire differently then many of the other retailers Lipsy Iconic all employ Westerners however the hours may be a bit long

Hi, I am looking for some good UAE online shopping websites. Can anyone recommend any as I don't always want to go out to the malls and realise it's not like home where our favourite high street shops have websites and will deliver! Looking for an online store that sells ladies clothes, lingerie, shoes etc. Thanks! KJ River Island and New Look deliver here If you open a shop and ship account you get clothes delivered from all the UK websites and it still works out cheaper than buying them here ( I hope i am right in assuming you are from the UK)

I have already given the cheque :( But will now demand it back. I too hated the idea of them being able to cash it whenever, but was told every bank does it. Can anyone recommend ADCB / RAK Bank? I am shifting my savings offshore as I really don't trust these banks. DH has also suggested we do NOT get a joint account in case anything happens to either one of us and they freeze our joint account (we both work and have own employment visas) - is this a good idea? I wanted a joint account but he is more sensible than me so said it doesn't make sense. Have had massive problems with the 2nd one above and have banked with them a loooon time
