Thnks for replies. I tend to not say anything because I feel the more I say the more he enjoys counterarguing, so I don't give him ammo. His always been like this and Iv noticed that anyone he spends reasonable time with, sooner or later there is some sort of fallout. Once a group we had s cordial debate abt a topic, he spent hours doing research so he could counter argue. Does that seem normal? Errr no

S How much do you want to pay for brunch? Hi Louisedvs, I know this is not very helpful, but no budget really, probably want to stick within say 400ish mark (in my head this is around 75 quid and not taking it up to £100). On the other hand, the cost is not a huge issue as its a birthday weekend and have good friend visiting also. The key point in my mind is that we tend to go to music events more casual and weren't sure where to go for nice food beforehand that you could get away with this. We don't really want to come back home to Marina to get changed in between brunch & sandance. Thanks for any thoughts you may have. S media 1, grand grill at the Habtoor i would avoid Atlantis, Al Qasr etc

Just need some advice / perspective please as I'm struggling to deal DH who I feel has a really difficult personality ie there's no pleasing him, whatever I do he'll always find fault in it. Does anyone have insight into personality types that seemingly like to argue? Don't know if that Is going to make sense! Eg instead of giving me a reminder eg don't forget to take the receipt with you before we leave for the mall, he'll wait til we've left and then angrily ask did you bring that receipt with you, as if he's hoping iv forgotten and waiting for an opportunity to argue. If I merely miss a call from him he'l go into a rage even if I explain I was in the bathroom at the time. He criticizes everything I do, if I'm explaining directions to someone , even if they find their way, he'l say I'm useless and the way i explain my directions show how messed up my brain is. I could go on... I guess i just need a place ti vent because I have no one else to talk to. Have you tried to sit and calmly explain how he is making you feel or does it errupt into a row? If my DH rang me and screamed down the phone at me i would hang up on him and if he yelled at me face to face i would walk away. Do you get upset ( tears) or yell back?

Thank you All for your responses. I was 90% there re whether to buy VIP tickets and definitely going to now. Thanks for helping me decide! Also, have a friend from UK visiting and want to make big day of it. Want to go for brunch first but don't necessarily want to get dressed up as would need to for where we would normally suggest for a brunch (Al Qsar or similar place) to then go on to sandance. Any recommendations where we could get good food but don't need to get overly dressed up? Thanks again. S How much do you want to pay for brunch?

I I think you may be told very shortly that what you've suggested is people trafficking. My advice to you is that you don a hard hat or hide under a table now :D Is that because of the Romania aspect? (I understood the prospective employer is a Romanian in Dubai, and thought I'd heard of transfer of sponsorship happening legitimately here, is all :D) No not the romania aspect - the re-imbursing of the previous employers costs associated with employing the maid in the first place. I was called a people trafficker a few months ago because I admitted I had reimbursed my maids previous employer in order to get her working for me. She'd finished her contract and didnt want to renew it, she'd been with them 4 years, so I reimbursed the money the bloke had paid in fees to bring her years ago. I was called a people trafficker for doing that. :) By whom? Someone on EW? What you did is simply a business transaction - like paying a recruitment agency a fee for their efforts in finding you an employer, for example Paying a recruitment agency for finding you a job is illegal too. However a business transaction between 2 people as the OP is up to them hardly people trafficking though?

When I joined a company here, if you left within 6 months you had to pay back the cost of the visa - around 6,000dhs! Several of my colleagues ended up having to have this deducted out of their final salary so yes, it does apply in some companies under Labour Law and was just a fact of leaving - no one disputed it. The fact is, as an employer, there are considerable costs associated with hiring people and this needs to be understood by the employee. You can't just come and go when you are under someone's sponsorship without having to account for the significant costs, time and paperwork they have undertaken to bring you on board. Frankly I am shocked at all the posters here who claim holding the passport is unlawful / accept the loss etc. Yes it's not ideal to have someone working for you who doesn't want to be there (after yesterday's meat stamping thread), but at the same time, she is an adult and must pay the consequence of breaking her legally binding contract. If I sign up to a loan, I must accept the Ts and Cs of paying it off early; if I sign an 18 month agreement with Du, there are consequences for breaking it early etc etc. As a sponsor, you pay for someone to be contractually bound to work for you for 1 year, at the end of which you send them home if they don't renew. You don't pay for them to job hunt on your watch, interview on your time while living in this country under your cost, go behind your back, and have a new visa sorted unbeknownst to you! The Human Rights brigade will always come out on threads like this but let's be honest- the maid has not played fair, she has lied, she has been brazen and she is clearly not stupid. No one likes to be played so why should she get away with it? I have dealt with the MOL for 6 years regarding visa costs and it is illegal to recoup them, most employees do not stand up for their rights regarding this as it is usually taken out of their final salary/gratuity My friend took her company to labor court regarding this and won, needless to say the employer no longer does this

As i believe maids are not covered under this. If you a regular employee and have an unlimited contract employers are not allowed to recoup visa costs/recruitment etc it is illegal. Yeah I mean MOL.. Sorry not relevant to this thread but just curious to know.. Providing you dont work in a FZ it used to be that you required an NOC from your employer if you left after 3 months probationary period however in the first year you would get a 6 month working ban In Jan 2011 it all changed. If you leave within 2 years and only have a high school education providing you earn 10,000AED a month you can move with no ban, Bachelors 12,000AED and Masters 14,000AED. Limited contracts are different however the above deals with unlimited infact high school cert may only be 8,000AED to move it isnt very high i know that <em>edited by louisedvs on 22/10/2012</em>

I know nothing about this, but just wonder why you don't tell her that you will release her from her contract with you early, after her prospective new employer has paid you your costs for her latest visa, pro-rated? Is there not such a thing as transferring sponsorship? Isnt the new employer in Romania though? transfer of sponsorship no longer happens in Dubai it is cancellation and new one i think

Hi, I am going to next Sandance on 9 Nov and I have been before with 'normal' tickets. Last time I said, if I went back, I would go to VIP area. Looking for views from any ladies who have been before and if its worth the extra dosh? Thanks in advance for an views & thoughts. S Yes easier to get served and toilets! I did the sand once and it was a nightmare Couldnt get a drink, tripping over random abandoned flipflops, hour long toilet queues and hidden shisha coals . I understand you don't want someone in your house who does not want to be with you anymore. But then, as you said she was already on the look and getting things arranged while you were renewing her contract, which she agreed with. If I do that to my employer, I should expect to be asked to reimburse the costs made by the employer to renew my visa. Or sit out (part of) my contract. And as for holding passports, yes she is a human being, but a human being that is 100% your responsibility while she is under your sponsorship. If she runs off, it can cost you a lot of head ache and money. Sit her down, give her some options as some of the ladies mentioned: Work for 2 months without pay to pay part of the visa costs back, sit out the contract, or be sent home with a ban. And see what she says. But I would not just let her go after what she did. Employers are not allowed to recoup visa costs it is illegal

Of the ones you mentioned the only 2 places I haven't been to are Bali and Goa. Bali is not so good in terms of flights for 4 days and for Goa I should have a visa for India. I have run out of ideas sorry

Because it's so last minute, I would go to the Emirates website (or Etihad) and check to see which destinations still have seats and reasonable prices. I recommend Singapore. 6 hour flight and expensive but beautiful nevertheless

You can stay in the house for 12 months after expiry of the existing contract as per my knowledge. You just need to read Rera Rules :) If they sell they have to give you 12 months written notice to move out

OMG I remember sun in!! It just made orange brittle streaks in my hair!!! Dreadful stuff. OP don't worry about having highlights - honestly, they blend in so easily your hair just looks sunkissed - you can leave it 2 - 3 months before going back. You might find some herbal stuff but it really won't do much and after all the faff and anticipation you'll be thinking huh when you rinse it off. I would defo do a herbal / home colour to go darker / reddish tones / plum etc, but for lightening, go to the hairdresser :) My friends mum had a bottle of it in her shower! I didnt think they still made it! Sun In and snow washed jeans and jacket i thought i was the bees knees haha

Good old Sun In! Boy was the the hit of the 90s! My great friend and I bonded over a Sun In accident. It worked very well for my sister who went blonde with it, for a friend and I we only got orange. Lemon Juice never worked for me, though. I used the super strength one in Turkey 1990 my hair went white haha

Is there a department or organisation if you are having an ongoing issue with a store? After being shouted at "If you don't like it thats your problem. Get out of my store and never come back" I'm thinking maybe someone else can talk to the arrogant dumb donkey. No I had not been shouting, abusive in any way or even raised my voice before you ask. Hubby ordered 2 bunches of flowers from well known shop while he was travelling as a surprise. Only 1 turned up but both cards were attached to it (1 for me and 1 for DD) Wasn't till DH came home that we found out there should have been 2. Anyway owner is being a jerk and we would like a refund for the missing flowers obviously.This has been going on since February! Who to call that will deal with it? Maybe should just write to 7 days and hit him in his pocket, see how he likes it :) There is a ministry department you can call but i dont know the name or number someone will put it on here

I've heard of lemon juice rinse to lighten blond hair somewhat, but have never tried it myself. I used lemon juice years ago but i can change it to diff shades of blond depending upon your own hair colour. I had some disasters with sun in What about something with cammomile in?

whippy, we worried about that. But what Emaar's reps told us when they visited us is that our only worry would be if one of us lost the security card that gets us into the car park and building. I am going to harass our LL and his solicitor until those are paid though so none of our facility use is disrupted. And, because it's just plain wrong; both the fact that he hasn't paid, and told us he has!! You can go to the Emaar office in Nakheel ( If you live at the Greens) and pay 200 for a new pass ( If you lose it) my neighbour has just done this as she lost her pass and her LL owes service fees. Our security guys are great so i do not think they would cut people off from the facilities We have a huge unpaid board outside too

Cannot take stroller on board however you can take it up to the door plus emirates provide strollers aswell. I know people have mentioned travel seats but i have never seen one on board a flight ever. They do provide bassiets for babies ( depends on weight and age though) Who are you flying with? I think she wants the stroller to be available at the gate when she gets off the plane. I'm not sure if this is actually possible. Virgin Atlantic used to provide all strollers at the plane door but a couple of years ago their rules changed and they said that airport rules now stipulated that all strollers have to be taken to the baggage counter. Having said that, can't you just call the airline that you are flying with and see what they can do for you? Depends on ground staff however my friend who is ex crew said she used to get her pram as soon she landed ( and the aricraft door opened) if that makes sense This was Emirates though

I went to Salon Ink for a consultation for a lose perm, and was advised against it.... was very happy with the advice that i was given. The consultation was free btw. I had some terrible home perms when i was a teenager. Looking at photos i cant believe how bad they were and yet i thought i looked fab! haha

Invited last minute to a Halloween party tonight! need to find a feather boa (green, blue, red, yellow, whatever just not pink) and a bandanna (red preferred but any color ok) as my OH and I are going as Parrot and Pirate ;) We have everything else. I tried Partyzone at Dubai mall, where else might have those items? The closer to new Dubai area the better - MOE, Dubai marina mall, etc... please please help if you have any ideas or seen these things around! Thanks!
