When I lived in the Greens, I got a girl kicked out of my building for being noisy. She lived in the apartment directly underneath mine and used to have parties and music til 4am. I went down a few times, was nice, asked her to please turn it down, she ignored. This continued for several months, security ignored and did nothing (they were visibly scared when I called them up to mediate), until one night when I was ill and trying to sleep she was up to her old tricks. Went down, gave her a massive verbal earbashing (I am not proud to admit) then called the police. Within a week she was out. Sorry but some people are just very inconsiderate - her responses to me requesting music turned down were "I can do what I want in my apartment" - no lov, you can't. You rent 800 sq ft of one building, so you have to respect your neighbours. If your neighbours, despite repeated requests don't listen, you have every right to call the police who take noise complaints seriously. Emaar even have signboards up in the coridoors stating not to make noise in the buildings that disturb other residents

Hi all, we live in The Greens and our new downstairs neighbours are super loud at all hours often waking our baby. Whats the best solution (have already asked them face to face, didnt last) Thoughts? I live at the Greens and had so many problems with my neighbour Complaining did no good as she told security to off. I was woken every night at 3am by her banging, scraping of chairs, clipclopping of shoes, hoovering, patio door slamming, shouting, laughing etc etc. It was starting to wear me down till one night i had had enough and hammered on the wall with my golf shoe and they seemed to do the trick. Does your building have an Association Manager? if so go and see him/her

I think it depends on where your house faces etc. We only get sun in the morning between 8am and 10am, which is great in the Summer, but in the Winter our house is completely BALTIC (and I'm Scottish so I know what baltic is :D ) - i've already started getting under the wool blanket of an evening. :-P We have to wear socks/jumpers/etc indoors in ours in the Winter. When we first moved in, because the building had been empty for so long, we had to buy an electric heater and keep it running all the time to try and get some heat in. :\: Try living in North Germany -21 one year brrrrr the onzie will out in November haha Yes, I am also from a very cold place. It is often below zero in New England (USA) in the wintertime and that is in Fahrenheit, not Celsius! I would love to visit New England in Autumn it looks amazing!

Yes, that is the time when expat mothers pick up their kids from school. :) Why single out the expat mothers specifically? It's also the time (at my children's school at least) that the local mothers pick up their children from school. Actually the majority of mothers picking up from school are expat. Most local mothers use drivers and buses, very few drive themselves. I live in a predominantly local community and it would be a rare thing to see any of the Moms driving their kids to school. Regretably the nicest of drivers turn mad once they move here I have friends from the UK who when behind the wheel of a car here turn into a loony whilst in the UK they drive to the law. When i first moved here i was told so many times that you have to drive a certain way ( badly) otherwise you will never get anywhere ( I dont by the way)

maybe she just does it for attention - if what's she's actually saying isn't wrong, just the tone, why not try ignoring it ? I agree. My 5.5 year old DD has been a little horror lately. she is always using a rude tone or whining. I used to reply to it and get sucked in but now when she does it I just ignore her and I think she has now started to pick up that if she asks me nicely, I respond well. edited by derien on 14/10/2012 That might work, I'll give it a go. Hello, I have some friends coming in for a visit and I would love to spend the day at a Hotel with a beautiful pool and swim up bar. Can anyone recommend such a place? I used to live in Abu Dhabi and we would go to the Rotana all the time for the cost of 80 - 100 aed entrance fee for the day, it was beautiful. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!! I doubt you will find anywhere nice for that price anymore I tend to use Jumeriah Beach hotel ( In the 200aed mark) and the Jebel Ali beach resort and spa ( dont know price sorry as used to use vouchers in the book)

My dd is impeccibly behaved at school (the teachers constantly remark) and with her friends but lately at home, she's been speaking in this tone, that makes my blood boil. Based on what she's saying, the words are not actually rude but the way she says it is cheeky, to me at least. A simple yes mum, sounds all snotty - can't explain it. Everytime, we disapprove of her tone, we mention it and she starts all over but does anyone else have any suggestions. I don't want this to get out of hand as its just not appropriate. Time outs don't seem to be working... Is there anything you can take away from her? I know when my Nephew is naughty his playstation disappears

I will be looking for somewhere close to work as i think my LL will want to raise my rent next year ( she will be entitled too) it is nice to find out about new places as i have lived in most of new Dubai and dont really want to go back to the Marina It all depends on the price next year :-)

It's no longer available, end of. We can't lay claim to live in someone else's house for as long as we want - we can stay there as long as is convenient for the LL. It's a business agreement and we can never really truly consider it to be "our home". because it is the law? Every nine months? Isn't the LL breaking the law by asking you to move on average 9 months? It isnt about laying claim to living in someones house for as long as you want it is about both parties abiding by the law and by the sounds of it your LL wasnt abiding by it. I have a 6 month agreement with my tenants in the UK and have to stick by that. I cannot ask them to leave before then.

I have seen people with those signs drive past with children bouncing around in the car. Indeed, Babies on board but certainly not strapped in! I think the sign is a good idea in the case of an accident to alert paramedics but I don't think I drive any differently around cars that have them. I saw a woman with one on board early this week, driving like a loon whilst on her phone

I do feel that alot of LL dont know the tenants rights and back down once RERA are called/involved my LL wanted to sell after my first 12 months however i informed her that she had to give me 12 months written notice and therefore i have stayed in the property for another 12 months. I dont know what will happen next year though as rents in my area are going up and it is a sought after building. I do not want to move again but may have no choice

Hi, I need to go through a 20-session driving lesson to get a driving license and plus all other related cost, I have to pay around AED4,400++. Got another quotation for the same thing at AED2,800. Can anyone (with 20 sessions requirement) share their experience? What is the usual cost for a license? It used to be 200 plus eye test ( I did get mine years ago though)

Maybe you have been lucky. I have moved 6 times in 5 years due to LL's wanting to move in, put rent up, move in a relative, sell etc. Each time ( bar one Iranian LL who was actually quite respectiful), we have found to have been lied to. And the agency fees pile up. Oh yes, just to add that our latest LL has 60K outstanding fees with Emaar and they dont collect our trash anymore because of it. Nice? edited by derien on 11/10/2012 Maybe, you're bad tenants.... seems an awful lot of bad luck. i have lived here for 7 years and not once had an issue from my LL but then again i wont rent from anyone unless they are local. We are not bad tenants - we have always paid in 1 cheque, taken care of the property, had a garden put in at our own cost, paid for the maintenance and waited till the end of the contract to get reimbursed. Maybe we were naive to think that renting here would be the same as in Europe where, so long as you pay your rent on time, take care of the property and respect the by-laws, you can pretty much stay as long as you like. It's just not like that in Dubai. people who rent get messed around all the time and they don;t even have a leg to stand on because they pay in one or two cheques. Maybe if the LL had to pay the fees everytime he changed tenants, he would think twice ? I agree and they need to adopt direct debit and 12 payments that would stop the scams!

To be honest you're actually coming across as a 'problem tenant'. Going round in circles again it would appear..............Once again, I asked the question so that I could understand my rights. Now that I know them, i will not push them. There was never any intention of pushing them, just understanding them and standing up for them IF I was entitled to. I do apologize how I "come across". Next time I'll keep quiet and not ask for advice............... No need to apologise. It's frustrating when LL's cant see past their noses But what else do you want him to do? LL's also have to pay agency fees etc everytime they get a new tenant as well. To put it another way, why would you stay in a place where it's evident that the LL desperately wants you out? He could make things very difficult. Just a little bit of honesty would have been nice............ its easier, I find, to negotiate with someone where mutual trust and respect exist ............or maybe that's me just being too naive.............. In the rest of the world, the LL interviews his/her prospective tenant, approves him/her and yes, the relationship 90% is based on respect and trust. I am a LL myself in Switzerland and France. In Dubai, the LL's and agents are out to make a quick buck, couldn't care less about the long term prospects of their investment and are genuinely vile, in particular the ones who are financing their "assets" through mortgages that they cannot afford. Next time, go with a local landlord. Do you mean local as in nationality? My 3 LL here have been a variety of nationals and i have never had any issues with them ( Perhaps i am one of the lucky ones) Yes, I mean an Emirati Landlord :-) I have had Indian, Syrian and German no issues with any of them ever. Infact they couldnt do enough for me Maybe you have been lucky.
