Update I had a very interesting chat in the HSBC this morning where I was advised that it is possible to open a UK (or any country really) bank account from Dubai. The HSBC customer services guy had to put in a computerized request to the HSBC IBC (international banking centre) and then I have to follow up with them in a few days. All that is required is a passport and visa copy, Emirates ID card and Dewa or other utility bill. Sounds straightforward but with banking one never knows. Standard Chartered, however, needs the client to have 1m USD to invest. Sounds perfectly reasonable ! Hi Hilsbils Do you have any further news on the above?

Yes and recently Al Naboodah wanted 4500AED for the 60k service plus another 3k to fix the roof lining as the heat had caused it to sag and they wanted the car for 3-4 days! AAA serviced the car and fixed the lining for 2500AED and only had the car for 2 days Have had no problems with the car since. Wouldnt use the dealer ever again unless i had too

Thanks everyone, I will check out Gloria and Dune... I want to stay in an apartment as it is a recce trip which I am planning for March. I just need to be in an area that I may possibly relocate to after my recce trip and its important for me to meet new friends in these areas that can offer guidance on the living situation. Eton Language Institute? No it's not paid parking. You can find parking round the front (but very limited spaces) or round the back there is a huge sandpit. Neither is paid. DB is right lots of free parking

I don't think either of the owners were there it was midweek, Tuesday from memory so may be a day off for them. I am happy to pay 700- 800dhs for foils, cut and blow dry but honestly just under 900 without a trim, add a trim in and I would have been looking at 1100+ and i get my hair done every 5 weeks so I can not really justify...and of course my husband thinks I pay around 400 :\: I don't pay anymore that 500 and have t section ,trim and blow dry. Foils are expensive in most parts of the world unfortunately

Must have been a bad day then, i found the girl washing my hair to be quite surly and I would have been at the basin for a total of about 4 minutes for a rough pull off of the foils and routine wash and condition whilst she chatted to her colleague in tagalog. As I said the color was fine and I was not at all unhappy with the stylist but when paying top of the range prices I don't think it is wrong to expect all aspects of the service to be above average, which quite frankly was not my experience at all. Were Kelly and Sharon ( The owners there) they would be horrified at the above! I shall speak with them tomorrow when i go in

Yes, they really go overboard, even had phone call to ask if I wanted to pay three weeks before it was due! Not only that but have had email saying they would take us to court for unpaid amount which wasn't anything to do with us - they had wrong account number/details - don't think they have a clue what they are doing, might help if they didn't chase customers who pay on time........ I got the phonecall too about 3 weeks before the due date i just put the receiver on the side and went about my business haha needless ot say they have never rung back

The stylists at Salon Ink are quite good, although it is incredibly expensive, almost 900dhs for a full head of foils for shoulder length hair and blowdry, glad I didn't have a haircut as well! TBH I felt a bit ripped off they certainly don't offer any added extras or niceties for this price, not even a decent hair wash or quick head massage when washing your hair and they don't use Kerastase products. The end result was fine but I won't go back at that price. What do you mean not a decent hairwash? I have been going there for 3 years and they take ages washing my hair and give head massage ( Even though i dont like them) . They used to use Kerastace but now use Wella/L'oreal professional products which have the same ingredients lol I appreciate you may not want to pay their prices as it is each to their own but believe me they do give a decent wash, head massage etc and i a sure several of their clients will vouch for this. Totally agree, I love getting my hair washed as the girls are SO good at massaging my head! Never once not had it in 3 years. And coffees and soft drinks. I am treated like one of their family :-)

Baby sitting for someone who is not your sponsor isn't legal, so better remove her contacts. I'm sure you don't want her getting into trouble. Flavours on 2 at Towers Rotana on the SR.Road. It's very busy there on a Thursday with a great atmosphere and early booking is recommended. They also have a private room if you would prefer to use that but personally I would use the main area. Thursday or Friday night is Italian but plenty of alternative food as well. Great value at about 200 dhs. all inclusive and you can use the Entertainer voucher (up to four of them). Then move downstairs into Long's Bar ! i would say flavours too! i never knew they had a private dining room and i'm there at least once a month - where is it?! We went to flavors a few weeks back and to be honest i found it had gone downhill a bit.

The issue is libel, public forums just have greater consequence as the number of people who may see it, the fact that you don't always have control to remove it, the audience can be targeted to directly be one that will cause loss for the 'victim'. Even if it were the truth, how you present the truth will be considered as an exaggeration can change something from true to false. You can say whatever truth you want, but make sure you know you have all the facts to back it up. Against a person is different here due to privacy laws. Earlier this year a teacher was suspended for one month for hitting a child. Only a month and suspension. No-one should be allowed to discipline a child apart from his/her parents. I would not be responsible for my actions if i saw an adult hitting my child.

I like Jumeirah Beach Hotel with children. jumierah beach hotel is fab and i am often there on fridays! i stick to the beach but there are lots of families at the pool. 250 AED each. they do a fab friday salad buffet in the clubhouse. jebel ali hotel also a favourite but due to distance and the fact it is often full by 10.30 am (!) i can't be bothered to trek there. I did go to the Hilton one once however the bar staff and pool attendant got into a fight! I second JBH and Jebel Ali too

Hi all, I'm always in pursuit of something it seems! This time I'm desperately seeking a brow specialist who knows how to shape brows properly- I've been to too many therapists who don't listen to what I want. Also desperately seeking tanning cream but the kind that builds up your tan gradually. I don't want the instant tan variety. I just don't have a clue where to find it! It sounds lame but I'd rather go the fake route and save my skin for years to come. Thanks for your help. boots do a gradual tan as do st tropez there are lots just ask in Boots or in the skin departments at Paris Gallery, Debenhams, Harvey Nicks etc

So, DH has asked if I can organise some 'work' shirts, polo type, with the company name and logo [u'>embroidered[/u'> on. He doesn't want just the heat-transfer/iron-on type logo. I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of where to start looking for such a company - any suggestions/recommendations? Both my friend and I are going through this right now. You cannot marry legally here unless at Court or in a Church. Yo can try the Portuguese Embassy but the British Embassy doesn't do any civil secular ceremonies. My DH and I went to Cyprus - we used Nadia Travel (google them) and they sorted it all out - cost us $1,500 (plus flights) and they got all the paperwork stamped / legalised at the Embassy / MOFA in Nicosia. We are having our proper ceremony next year but it will be a blessing. My friend was looking at doing a quick registry office thing in the UK but there is no such thing anymore. I don't know the exact details but she would have had to be in the UK for over a month just to have a registry office ceremony - you definitely can't just fly in and out, whereas me and DH were in Cyprus for 48 hours! Good luck :) I think you can do a quickie at Gretna my friends did this as he lived here she lived in UK and he wasnt a resident of the UK for a month

We pay less than 300 for the basic Du TV, internet and landline package, but I believe the least they have is a talk and surf one for around 250 I pay 249 for landline and internet 8 speed with DU i only have the basic package as never watch the tv here

Clark Francis does these great ladies mornings all over town. Frequently more coaches than ladies attend and it costs something like 50 dh for two hours. Can't be beat. I play with them and it is for an hour It was 1000 for 10 or 12 lessons

What about disposable type razors? ETA Just looked on EK's website and you can't carry razor blades or straight razors (a la Sweeney Todd). As male BC passengers get a disposable razor in their washbags, one would assume they are allowed. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 07/10/2012 First thing they ask is do you have any sharp objects in your hand baggage although in business class/first class you get them in your goodie pack

SingingCanary, nobody can advise you for or against this decision. For everyone saying 'buy' there will be one that says 'don't'. Laws do change here, and usually for the better, however only you know how open you are to change and what your trust level is. We personally trust in the powers that be and have had a fantastic property owning experience. Nobody can advise you on what to do, there are so many factors influencing your decision, financial, job outlook, how long you want to stay here, how long you have been here etc. And it may be something that you and your DH never agree on. never knew that.. Yep and if the maid was caught huge fine for her sponsor and potential deporation. It isnt worth it at all and you could be in trouble for hiring her. It is best and safer to go down the agency route. Imagine if she robbed you? you couldnt report her as she working illegally
