I think there is somewhere near police headquarters, if you know where that is in Dubai? (I don't, but it may help if you find out where that is?) I think further up from Bur Dubai. There is a temporary holding place, not prison. I think they take people to the one in Bur Dubai but i cannot remember the name of it

To add to the original post We would really appreciate some help as we feel really helpless... My daughter’s boyfriend (South African) was coming back from holiday and was stopped and searched at the airport – they found a very small amount of cannabis folded neatly in his jeans pocket in his suitcase (which he swears wasn't his - he never folds anything - never mind neatly...) – he called her and said he was in trouble. She eventually found him and went to visit him... They are making him sign documents in arabic which he doesn’t understand He has no family here to help him and has had a very sad life. He has recently found a little bit of happiness with my daughter and I’d really like to help him. Please, if anyone can help us with advice or can maybe recommend a lawyer, translator or anything at all, we’d really appreciate your help. If you don’t want to post on a public forum, please e-mail me at [email protected] Thank you so much I suggest consular advice. Embassy most definately however i doubt they can help except give advice

I know of somebody who recently went to RERA to ask if they had to leave their villa as LL wanted it back with 3 months notice. As JenniDxb said RERA told her that LL was within his rights to give 3 months notice. However the Rent Committee said 12 months notice, unfortunately they had agreed to move out after the advice given by RERA.... RERA have no law over the rent committee The rent committee are the guys to speak with Any issues with rent and LL you speak with the rent committee, RERA should not be involved nor should you speak the regarding this full stop. They cannot give you 3 months notice to leave unless your rental contract is non renewable and it states this, the area has increased and you do not want to pay the higher amount You have many rights now and the papers have been full of this

Is this for extensions? How long do you find that they last? Are they uncomfortable? Do they yank out your naturals? Very curous! Great when they are first done, go crunchy after a bit, good for a couple of weeks then they pull out your own. I stick to falsies now

I think it has to do with how many people are trying to use it at the same time. I noticed that my internet got slower and slower as more and more people moved into my building. it was brand new when I first moved in. I also notice that it is much much faster in the mornings! Someone did post on here about doing something to make it faster I cannot for the life of me remember I have fibre optic in the UK and oh is it fast, here it is snail pace!

I work for Tecom, while it's also a freezone, some stuff might be different. If you're under probation, either party can terminate the contract immediately, without notice. Probation is for a minimum of 6 months, but can be extended. If you're done with probation, there has to be a minimum one month notice. Only reason for them to terminate you immediately is if it is a grave offence. However, as you said it is not your fault, there has to be a min. 30 days, and that's what you should get, aside from the gratuity of course. Companies can fire employees for no reason, as long as they follow the proper notice period. My friend last month, who was four months pregnant, was welcomed back to her office after her wedding with a termination letter. Unfortunately here, these kinds of stuff happens all the time! edited by everythingnice on 25/02/2013 Same at JAFZA no gratuity as 9 months only

Tara who is a western hairdresser at Sera Beauty Lounge is amazing! its based in Media City. If you go on a Sunday or Monday you get a staggering 50% off all treatments, including hair extensions. Mine lasted over 6 months and for half the price! Are you sure the 50% includes extensions, I just rang them up and they told me it doesn't I would be very surprised at 50% off as most salons only charge you to buy the extensions not put them in and they tend to be pricey here. 50% off would not give them any profit at all

Nothing to do with 12 months. I have spoken to my client and Manager You cannot do anything unfortunately :-( As long as they pay you for those 30 days ( If they ask you to leave without giving 30 days notice) then they are quite within the legal realms Sorry

They haven't done anything wrong. This is the UAE and you can be terminated without cause, unless you are local. hmmm - where i am we have to give a written warning first, we can't just boot someone out. unless it's gross misconduct - then we have a list of 4 things - drinking at work/bringing explosives and a couple of others i can't remember! But that's your HR policy, it's not the labour law; which states either one or three months notice. One of my multinational clients had to let 2 staff go and paid them severance pay ( None FZ entity)

Louisedvs - I think you can make it fly with an expat in the role if you peg it as a governess/tutor position (or so I have been told). I would be happy to pay UK rates for the right person. I wasnt sure but thanks for clarification always good to know Perhaps there is an agency in the UK that could help? I am sure some of them provides Nannys for all over the world :-)

I agree that it is hard to find professional childcare outside of the "maid" solution. I have twin boys aged 3 and I am looking for some after-school childcare starting from September 2013. Are there any western early years teachers based in Dubai who might consider a change from the school environment or a qualified nanny / childminder to take care of two bright and active young boys on a part-time basis (3-4 afternoons a week)? Or does anyone know of anyone who would be interested in this position? The person I am looking for will have teaching/childcare experience and a good understanding of the development of young boys. Duties would include after-school pick up (car would be provided or car allowance), assisting with scheduled after school activities, providing a stimulating environment at home after school and doing tea and bath time. Extra help would be needed during school holidays. This would be a live-out position and we would do the necessary paperwork for a "governess/professional tutor" style position so that it is above-board. If anyone out there has relevant experience (or knows of someone who does) and is interested in discussing further please do let me know. I appreciate that this is for September 2013 but I don't think it is going to be straightforwards to find the right person so I am trying to get ahead of the game! Thank you. Is there not a restriction on certain nationals doing this job? We tend to find Western ladies do not assume these roles as the pay is not great and they can be paid double working in other roles Good luck with you search though :-)

I really dont think you have any rights I was terminated when i was 4 months pregnant after working somewhere for 3 years with no valid reason at all !! turns out i had no rights, my company decided someone on a lower salary could do my job just as well once i had put everything in place ! you need to try not to let it get to you and get over it as quickly as possible. start looking for another job as soon as possible. Good Luck :-) The FZ can be different in regards to law however i cannot give advice

Looks like Onyx Fitness and Spa's Botox Deal on GroupON has just ended. I had mine done there last week Dr was an older lady ( Did not look it though) she was a little slow but gentle ( Although i dont find it painful) 4 days in and as per usual all my wrinkles and crows feet have gone With regards to Groupon i would always research the person administering the Botox and what they use. Do not always assume that if you are paying full price ( Not discounted) that it is better

If anyone knows someone down the Dubai Marina end of town, that would be good too, as closer to me! Can you let me know how you get on as i want some more in but dont want to pay what i used too I have seen some bad ones here!

Does anybody know which driving school is the best? I have just spent the last hour trying to get through to a few for some information and have got nowhere. I was in the middle of my lessons before i arrived in Dubai and what i gather reading the websites is that you have to do 40 lessons if you haven't already got a driving licence, which i don't think i need. Advise would be great if anyone has had any experience with learning to drive here as i would really love to be driving before the heat of summer starts! If you use the search bar above and put in your query you should find lots of posts about this Good Luck!

Thanks for all the input ladies... was beginning to think I was crazy for thinking the road was a sensible place to park a car. Will let you know if there are any developments but have so far heard no more. Trying not to inflame the situation with any gallic swear words- but not going to go get a key to move the car unless I am told to by the police. Why do people become soooo rude here? Is there some kind of airbourne virus that attacks them once they land in Dubai. If they tried it their home countries they would be told to BEEP the BEEP up

I'm sorry about what happened to you and like everyone else said, you must call the police. But I'm trying to imagine how the security got too close to you and how did he have the chance to touch you many times!!! Where did this happen and how? Why did you stay and let him touch you? Did he grab you? Did he follow you? I don't mean to be unsympathetic here but I cant understand how it happened and why didn't you say something to him or why didn't you run away? Its so easy to cast stones. Seriously, I imagine the original poster was in shock. Probably the first time it happened, she wasn't sure and then so on. Its irrelevant "how" she allowed this to happen, good God, you sound like a women that would tell women who are raped, they shouldn't have been wearing what they were, or shouldn't have been out so late, or on the wrong bus. The police will ask her EXACTLY the same questions... If it happened to you and you told your family they'd ask how it happened too... It's the "logistical how", not the "how on earth how" Yes but we are not the police or her family :-)

She was probably in shock and not everyone expects things like that to happen here and we all react differently my friend was attacked in the UK in broad daylight and she is a tough lady She literally froze. Does it really matter why she didnt run, say something, let it happen? The most important thing is that he should not get away with it and that she is okay :-)

Whatever you do, don't go to Beauty Connection Spa on SZR (near DIFC). Not only is it a production line and v noisy, but last time I had a pedi there the girls were chatting v loudly in Tagalog shouting 'London, England!' and laughing their heads off. Not sure who they were talking about. Lol! I went there once and the woman that waxed my eyebrows got the wax all over my face? and smelt of egg salad sanwiches never again

How about you go to everyone who has ever advertised car lifts, tutoring and other services in Dubizzle and other places and report them all to the authorities? Let me know how you get on with it. ;) Amy isn't hostile she is speaking the truth You are asking for advice here, however you are promoting something that is illegal so you will get people voicing their opinions whether you like it or not

Long story short..hubby left his car outside on the street...admittedly in front of the garden gate. He is out of the country and has his keys with him...no spare here... Neighbour is threatening to call police ... Does anyone know the ins and outs of this...it is not blocking any driveways or access. Have you spoken to the neighbour and asked why they will call the Police? I doubt it is illegal as not blocking a driveway etc
