I completly agree ! Ive had people popping their shopping on the bonnet of my car whilst openeing the boot of their car .. errrr why ? Ive also had a bunch of teens loitering around my car, leaning against it and resting their drinks on my car, moving but leaving the carton behind with a milky stain on the bottom. when I called them back and I was shouted at and another carton thrown at me ! Ive also had a teen sitting on my car .. when I told him to move he asked me to make him. I got into the drivers seat and started the car and he jumped off ! Im playing devils advocate here but im sure that the teen was not just innocently leaning agaist the car.. some words must have been exchanged. Just sayin Spot on! I doubt the teenage would of admitted she mouthed off either I remember being outside a gas station here, went off into the shop and when i came back a very nice gentleman had his drivers door open resting on my passenger side. Nice scratch. I walked around my car and shut his door quite hard. He jumped out screaming at me, so i pointed out what he had done ( showed him the scratch) and he said that wasnt me? I said why was your door leaning on mine and he carried on yelling. I said why dont we call the police as there were several witnesses behing me watching the whole carryon and asking if i was okay. He then backed down and i said just because i am a woman you cannot intimidate me and it isnt okay for you to damage my car because you are driving an old banger. I wanted to add a few more things but thought it isnt worth it really

I've tried everything over the years - acrylic, gel, shellac, gelish, etc - and I've discovered this wonderful Polish lady, Joanna, who works at Sisters on 28th St. She is the BEST. My nails have never looked this good, everyone admires them. She's a total perfectionist and I can go for 3-4 weeks between visits, they last so well. No cracking or breaking, honestly, I can't recommend her highly enough. Probably not the cheapest, but totally worth it. The salon itself is lovely too. Just wanted to share with you all :) I use Nbar and Tips and Toes and have used all the above Mine last for 3-4 weeks too :-)

In my last works carpark i would routinely come back to my car and people were leaning against and i found one guy sitting on bonnet. I did want to shove him off ( I did not though) i just told them to get off my car. I would never lean against or sit on someone elses car it is rude. He shouldnt of hit her if that was the case

I'm with you, so frustrating. We've gotten notice we have to vacate the property in a few months since the owner is "selling." But since you have to wait until the last minute to rent someplace new, the uncertainty will drive me mad. LC if they want you to vacate as they are selling they have to give you 12 months notice in writing This is the law and the LL cannot do anything about this

I went to exactly the same place as you and then rang Emirates ID to ask them the location of the media city post office and it is actually in Knowledge Village Building 8. So why it isn't called Knowledge Village post office who only knows :-) Knowledge village building 8 is simple to find and very well signposted lots of parking too :-)

I never buy my own purse ( wallet) as i was told it is bad luck to buy your own so i always get them as presents and keep the same one till it falls apart lol I hope there's money in them when you receive them lol - isn't it unlucky to give a purse/wallet as a gift and not put some money in it? There always is that is part of the bad luck too :-)

If you are in a situation in your life where you have a stable partner (are you married , as this may be an issue here) and you feel you are ready? How old are you? then aboslutely go for it. Life really starts when you have children. And ignore all my other threads about my boys giving me grey hair. They are beyong amazing! Hope this helps! Life starts when you have children, inclined to disagree hehe

Check the RERA website. My understanding is that rent increases are restricted and posted on that site. I don't think whom pays the chiller costs figures into the equation. I think this may be the link you need: http://www.dubailand.gov.ae/english/Tanzeem/Rentals/Rental_Increase_Calculator.aspx Speak to the rental committee, chiller costs have nothing to do with RERA If your apartment has increased by 25% of the market rate they can increase by 5% only How much notice have they given you for these chiller costs? My understanding is that they cannot do this. My friend has Palm cooling and her LL is responsible for this I feel they have trying to increase on the sly

Hiya, Just wondering if anyone has gone to stay out at this resort <I am just looking at a 2 night stay over a weekend> and whether you thought it was worth the money etc? I have not received a response from the resort about whether they offer complimentary transfers for guests from locations inside the Dubai city center - anyone know? I am sure that i have read on here that is is amazing!

*gulp* Is your hair thick? Perhaps research the net and call a reputable hairdresser here and ask advice. It may suit some but not others. Are there alot of chemicals in it? yes i have thickish hair..i have had a consultation with a reputable salon here and they said it actually works well on hair that is dry, damaged or dyed etc...as far as i know..its not got any harmful chemicals in and is safe...*here;s hoping* If it is a reputable salon then you will be fine. The worst i saw was my friends and it ended up limp and greasy but no bad side effects. Let us know how you get on as it is good for OP to know this

My sister is the same as you louise, entirely her choice and never regretted it. It's great for me and my other brother and sister (we're a big family) because she spoils our kids sooo much and they love her immensely too. My Sister has 3 and said to me if you have any have 1 and stop haha The world how it is today worries me so much if i had girls they would be in long skirts and chastity belts till they were 30! To my Neices and Nephews i am the cool Aunt whom they talk to when they dont want to talk to Mum. They get the best both of worlds and their Mum knows they will confide in me and i will listen and advise them accordingly

I know DH says this all the time but I'm still so sensitive to every cry. I sometimes even find myself annoyed at how easy DH can take it when DS is screaming in the back :( Men can switch off. Perhaps play some soothing music that LO may like I cannot imagine you are in the car for too long So many people here use that excuse for not strapping kids in and having them on their knee front and back

There was a thread on this recently: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic198086-is-it-allowed-to-have-small-baby-on-front-seat-in-dubai.aspx?Page=1 Have you tried putting a mirror facing him so he can see a bit more than the seat back? Or some carseat toys to play with? Any music he likes? I hate using the term but as many people have put it DS is 'high needs' ? and no matter how many toys he has in the back or even the maid playing with him he wants me or DH. When I'm in the back with him he isnt so bad. I was hoping by now he would have become used to his car seat but I guess not. I can imagine it is difficult if there is only person in the car however having him in the front would be highly dangerous and the driver would be distracted. I suppose LO will have to get used to it as much as he hates it

I've never considered putting car seat in the front. It just doesnt seem like a good idea. I have so many friends though who do and dont see the problem in it. Whenever I put DS in the back he screams his head off the entire journey though and I have a feeling he'd be happier in the front next to mummy but surely thats not even legal is it even if you do turn off the airbags. Convenience wise it would be great but isnt the front passenger seat considered the 'death seat' as somebody put it? It is legal and highly dangerous It is illlegal in the UK now although it was once Over here any seat could be the death seat with the standards of driving lol edited by louisedvs on 03/02/2013

Hi I hope you don't mind me hijacking as I was about to post a question about the Egate and I saw this thread! How does it work when travelling with children? I have two DDs and will be travelling this year alot, sometimes alone, other times with DH. If both myself and DH have Egates do we still need them for our children? Can their passports get stamped somewhere? Or do we need seperate Egates for us all? Anyone have experience of this? Cheers and sorry again for the hijack. hello Only adults can have them and they have to be aged 18 or over The guy at the gate at the E desk may let them through but i have seen families turned away and the desk unmanned. I suppose it may have an age restriction to stop children coming through without their passports being checked and stamped edited by louisedvs on 03/02/2013

Try Dubizzle. If they're a good make than you can try the second hand watch store in Beach Centre on Jumeirah Beach road. The place on JB road doesnt give much for 2nd had decent watches, my Sister tried to sell her Omega there ans what they offered was laughable

Where's she from? I am not sure i think she is a mix of 2 nationalities and i dont want to generalise if that makes sense She is really rude and i have stood behind her in the supermarket and seen how she speaks to staff there She gets up and starts making noise around 11pm up to 6am she obviously sleeps in the day my bedroom is next to her lounge and she is in and out of the balcony all night slamming the screen and the door 10 times! She stopped for a while but recently started up again. I cannot get my own back as her bedroom isnt on any of my walls :-(

Also in regards to the weather..I know its hovering around 20 degrees..but how does that feel? Jacket/ Cardigan or summery clothes? Thx :) It does get chilly at night and in the malls, a cardigan should suffice but i would bring Summer clothes as during the day it is warm :-)

They can move into an area in the middle of nowhere with the noisy woman that lives next door to me. I sympathise with you on this as it is horrible and no-one should have to tolerate this. Even talking to them in a nice way does not work. I was told i can do what i like this is my home! Hoovering and moving furniture every night at 3am is not normal and dont get me started on her microwaving and cooking smelly food on a hotplate on the balcony. Grrrr

That is one of my major gripes here... When I see someone who hasn't had millions of gment dollars spent on them telling them dangers then I think 'annoying, but they don't know different', but when it's someone who knows better I think 'you're a dckhead'. Although, I shouldn't generalize as there are westpats who grew up here and also don't know what recent westpats do. edited by AmyAus82 on 01/02/2013 I couldnt agree more but knowing the penalty if you hit someone whyever take that chance.

They were in the middle of the crossing as the others cars had stopped to let us cross, poor man couldnt run and get out of the way. I was horrified at her attitude towards the whole thing she was so arrogant and nonchalant and not to attack nationalities European! If she had done that at home she would of been lynched by other pedestrians. It was her attitude that bugged me no apology whatsoever and thankfully the man was okay .

Last night bimbling along to get my nails done an elderly gent and his Son were on the crossing by my house A Woman in a 4X4 ( not on the phone) comes hurtling off the roundabout and nearly takes the elderly man and his Son out. She didn't even stop and believe me if she didn't see them she shouldn't be driving! She had to stop as there was a queue to get into the shops carpark, i tapped on the window and asked her why she didnt stop and that she nearly knocked them over. Her reply was that she did not see them and then she rolled her window back up and drove off! I was gobsmacked to say the least. I couldnt get her plate as had no phone with me and had forgotten the plate number by the time she drove off! edited by louisedvs on 01/02/2013

I am so sorry you are going through this however i agree with the other poster who said it is he who is in the wrong. If he has someone else then i am guessing that she has no idea you exist. The other woman is always to blame and yet could be clueless I dated a guy once who had me and another lady on the go. Of course i found out as men can be so stupid at times and he was a rubbish liar, perhaps he wanted me to find out so i would end it and then he would be guilt free, i will never know and to be honest i believe everything happens for a reason. I wanted to confront her, blame her etc etc but what was the point, she did not lure him away he chose to cheat, he was an adult and made that choice. You have to try and talk to him and sometimes give ultimatums as you really do not want to be in limbo. I did not have children so as hard as it was to walk away i forced myself to as he would never change. You also need to protect yourself and look after you, you dont only have yourself to think about but that of your son but dont cow tow to his demands and needs, he is in the wrong afterall. If he is cheating then he should of sat down with you before said event and said he was not happy. He cannot have it all and play with your feelings. It is an awful thing to go through and i wish you all the best.

Childhood obesity is also definitely a problem here. So many kids waddling instead of walking proper as they are too fat. In some Asian/Arab cultures its consider 'cute' if your kid is fat especially when they are babies/toddlers. I can't get over how many people in MOE wait ages for an elevator when they can take the stairs or escalators. Huge pet peeve. When I can't get into an elevator with my pram because too many fat people waiting. I agree it should only be for prams. trollies. disabled people etc, not able bodied lazy persons How do you know if someone is disabled just by looking at them?! I said they should only be for the above. The amount of times i have seen able bodied people use them and push past wheelchair users and mothers with prams to get into the elevator is unbelievable and rude Shakifa is right. Someone may look able, without being able!! You ladies have obviously never been subjected to "unvisible" physical problems. My mum eg looks great, but she has scoliosis, rheumatism and COPD. She can walk, but not "climb", nor can she get on an escalator . You want to forbid her to take an elevator? Get real! I didn't mean that, i meant able bodied people who can use the stairs etc but dont etc and hold up people who need to use the elevators People like your Mum should take priority

Daft question perhaps but I'm sure that someone out there has the answer. It seems that iTunes is blocked here. Mine isnt, when you plug your iphone into your laptop if you have an Itunes folder it should open automatically and you can sync your i tunes library The UAE has its own store so definately not blocked here
