Saintlouismama: You don't mind me asking where your kids go to now. American school? My other options are DAA and Collegiate.

I cleaned mine yesterday. I use Fornet. Very strong smell so if you if have little ones just spray, leave the kitchen and come back after an hour. No scrubbing needed. Just wipe with a cloth and the cooker is spotless. I also use this on the kitchen fan, blinds and cupboards above the cooker. My kitchen is like new :) LuLee what is Fornet and where do you get it. My hob could also do with a good clean, better get my rubber gloves out ;) Green spray bottle. I get it from the Union Co-op. ETA; it's a instant oven cleaner and it really is. edited by LuLee on 16/02/2012

Thanks for the feedback. WIll have to loosen up a little and not shout at her everytime she lies. Sorry for the rambling about the other stuff. Just needed to get that off my chest. I just hope it'll get easier when the youngest is a little older and we could all enjoy doing things together.

I like to use Biosilk Therapy Serum. I haven't seen it here, well I haven't looked because I get it from the US. I get the largest bottle and it lasts a very long time. You only need to use a pea size amount.

We live in Jum 3 and there's a cheetah or lion (hard to tell in the dark) in a cage in front of a villa. So sad to see it walk back and forth in the cage. I'm not sure if it's still there.

Baby Splash at Dubai Ladies Club, really nice instructors. I'm very interested in this class. Is it one adult per child in the water. I have 3 children under the age of 4.

My DS is 2 next month and doesn't speak clearly either and knows a few words that I can understand. I thought it could be his ears because since he was 6 months old, he always had his fingers in his ears, rubbing them. My husband kept re-assuring me it's the teething. Then 2 months ago, I took him to my family doc in the US and told us he has an infection in both ears. Was given antibiotics for 10 days then we went back and the infection was gone. Then couple of weeks later had his ears checked again and the infection was back and was given a stronger dose of antibiotics. Haven't gone to a doc since we got back last week. I'm wondering if this is the cause of his delayed speech?

oh - been there. Didn't really like it - too much tat!! The tent thing is just full of reasonable priced abayas - and need some new work ones. How much do you pay in the tent? I went there but most places you cant try it on. I always buy from Abu Hail and pay 250-300 for each with Sheyla. I buy my niqabs from Ajman though coz they're only 25 dirham. I wanted to buy one from MOE last week and they were trying to charge me 220!!! Hear Ajman is great for Jalabeyas - any idea where in Ajman? The tailored embroidered ones? Im buying material from and having them made in Samnan at the moment I'm pretty sure you can get jalabiyat near the gold souk in ajman. I get my abayat from there really cheap. I'm not sure how to get there since my husband does the driving. I just remember my husband pulled a taxi over and asked for the gold souk and the abaya shops were next to it.

Thank you. The sharp shooting pain is gone but I'm feeling the contractions are getting stronger. I think this could be it. The contractions are 2 minutes apart for the past 2 hours but not extremely painful. Going to the hospital now.

I'm due November 10 and feel like the last couple of months have gone by so fast. I'll be leaving tonight and staying with my mommy and daddy and the rest of my family in the US. I was with Dr. Shanti who I met today because my doctor Dr. Natalya is on vacation and I got to say she's one sweet doc. Was hoping I could have stayed and give birth here but I have no one here and love having my big family around me. I hope everyone has a healthy pregnancy and delivery. Good luck :)

Thanks for the replies ladies. @LuLee - my son isn't really interested in books, still tries to chew on it if i bring it out but i'll try and change that before we fly, it's a good time spender. Will definitely finda bulkhead seat, just praying the flights not too full so if there's someone sat next to me they'll have the opportunity to move as I'm sure it won't be a peaceful flight for them ;-) i'll try take as many toys he likes as i can, normally he ignores his toys and plays with everyday things. will just have to get through it! If you can, buy some new ones that way he can play with it for a while. And don't show him before the flight. If you take old ones, he'll probably won't be interested. I'm only buying new books for him because I'm the one sick of the ones he has now. If I read Goodnight Moon again, I will die.

I'm also flying solo with an 18 month old, a 16 hour flight :O. The first leg to Germany is a night flight so I'm hoping he sleeps most if it not all. Will try really hard to sleep as well. Then the other leg is close to 9hours, I'm pretty sure he'll be awake for most of it. I'm not looking forward to it. Just bring lots of healthy snacks with you, new small toys, my son loves books, so I'm going to buy a few new ones. He can sit for hours literally if I read it to him.

http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/eid-al-fitr-holidays-announced-for-all-sectors-in-uae-1.853595 Could somebody please explain to me the article above, it says government are having Sunday 28th - Saturday 3rd, but the "private sector will observe the first and second days of the month of Shawwal as the Eid Al Fitr holiday" - will that then be Sunday & Monday? TIA First day and second day of Shawwal is Eid al Fitr and the day after. So it depends on the moon, it'll either be 30th (Tues) and 31st (Wed) of August or August 31st (Wed) and Sept 1st (Thur) If I'm wrong, plz correct me.

I went last year to Reem Al Bawadi and the food is great. Can't fault that, but the only problem I have is people start smoking 10 minutes after they've ate. I had 2 young children so we ate and left pretty early. It gets really stuffy in there. That's another reason why we don't go other times of the year.

I tried Reem Al Bawadi on Jumeirah Beach Road, but I heard from an Arabic friend that the branch located on SZR is better (?). My issue was that although we were there at 19 it was quite packed/busy, and in the end we nearly didn't get any of all the lovely cakes and desserts. Mind you, we were not slow eaters... I also didn't understand why they tidied everything up so fast, lots of moving tables etc. going on. Loved many of the dishes, though, so perhaps I'll go again:-) I think it's because many start coming in around 6:30-6:45 and are already in line at the buffet. If you go next time, go a little bit earlier :)

Yum love the way you make your own naan! I'm not that skillfull! Tonight's gonna be a simple thing.. whatever DH can rustle up hehe. I've got guests coming round tomorrow and I'm making: Lentil soup Slow Roasted leg of lamb Jewelled rice (rice with pomegranate seeds) Honey mustard chicken with new potatoes and asparagus Spinach and feta pastries Grilled aubergine & chickpea salad or aubergines stuffed with cherry tomatoes and mozarella. Not sure which one yet. The latter will look better, first is easier. What do you think? Fattoush salad Shanklish salad Umm ali for dessert... Wow are you doing that all on your own? Both aubergine dishes sound delicious, but I think I would go with aubergines stuffed with cherry tomatoes and mozarella just because I like tomatoes and cheese lol but then looking at your menu I think you'll have tomatoes in the fattoush and cheese in the shanklish? and the pastries so chickpea salad will do. I don't know, I think whatever it is it will come out fabulous. For us it will be samosas to go with my tamarind sauce (if it comes out ok), chicken soup, chicken biryanni and a salad. edited by LuLee on 11/08/2011

Today I made 2 main dishes to go with rice. Then freezing the leftovers. Potatos and cauliflower curry and eggplant curry. Samosas, salad, dates/juices. BTW I made the naan bread yesterday from MommyOfficially's recipe but they didn't brown in the oven. I don't think my oven is hot enough so I cooked them on a griddle pan and it turned out really good. I think I might make them tomorrow to go with my leftovers. Thank you.

Anybody know for sure? Gyne said to go in and see doc, they will list it as something wrong and not an elective procedure and then they can do it. My DH had his done in Abu Dhabi - surgeon did it with local anesthetic at his practice with his nurse as he could record it as a hydroceles (not sure of spelling sorry) and as there was no hospital staff to say otherwise it was paid by our insurance. DH wasn't too keen on the local but he said he felt no pain and he was given lots of medication to take home - he recovered quickly and no more babies - we have 11 children and he didn't want a dozen ! Good luck and I'm sure you will find a doctor otherwise repost and I will give you our Drs number :) Do you really have 11 children? :\:

Amalzd, my husband is going to an Iftar buffet tomorrow night in Abu Dhabi, I will ask him to report back. Otherwise, the only Iftar meal we are planning to go to will be at the SMCCU, at the end of the month. Something to do with Swiss and Canadian business associations meeting up and all the families can go too to learn about Ramadan. I'm really looking forward to it, finally having the chance to talk to real live Emiratis :) Is Jallab made of dates, or is it our imagination? Gosh, the Maward was really dark and had no scent of roses at all. It could be Vimto, a fruit drink concentrate. It's made out of grapes, raspberries and black currents. You only need a tablespoon or 2 and add 2 cups of water. You can dilute it more to your taste or make it really sweet.
