All week I didn't cook for my poor fasting OH. It was a blessing actually as I totally suck as a cook. Tonight I'm going to have to try and I don't know what to make that is easy and won't go wrong. why dont u cut the chicken in pieces marinade them for a while. get an oven bag and pop them in with the juices from the marination n all. this way u get nice moist perfectly cooked chicken that has a crispy outer :) and when u open the bag ull also have some gravy in there :) the veggies u can always season and pop in oven for just a few min or u can make a veggie casserole What's an oven bag and where can I get one?

Yes they allow them, why wouldn't they? There are many doulas here, you can do a search. I think there was a thread recently with a list of doulas. They could be on vacation at the moment. I would like to add that there are many doulas that post here that come highly recommended. You have Joyce from www.doulasofdubai.com (EW-Delighted), Andrea from www.thedotingdoulas.com (EW-AndreaA), Nicola from www.dubaidolas.com, Sylvia from www.my-doula.com edited by LuLee on 04/08/2011

250g/9oz plain flour 2 tsp sugar ½ tsp salt ½ tsp baking powder 110-130ml/3½-4½fl oz milk 2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus extra for greasing For the dough, sift the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder into a bowl. In another bowl, mix together the milk and oil. Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture and pour in the liquid mixture. Slowly mix together the dough by working from the centre and incorporating the flour from the edges of the 'well', to make a smooth, soft dough. Knead well for 8-10 minutes, adding a little flour if the dough is too sticky. Place the dough into an oiled bowl, cover with a damp tea-towel and leave in a warm place for 10-15 minutes, i keep it near the stove while my food is still cooking :). Form the dough into five balls and u can leave to rest again till they grow but if ur impatient like me u can just roll them out. Preheat the grill to medium and place a heavy baking sheet on the upper shelf of the grill to heat. Roll the dough balls out quite thinly, any shape u like. Sprinkle over your chosen topping like nigella seegs, garlic, chilli, sessame and press into the surface of the dough. Place the naans onto the hot baking sheet and grill for just 2-3 minutes, or until lightly browned. Brush with butter and serve hot. hope ull also love it as i cant stop making them Will try this. Thanks :)

[u'>My menu[/u'> Dates/Juices Samosas Lentil Soup Falafel sandwiches with yogurt/cucumber sauce I'm really amazed with some of the menus. Do you guys spend hours in the kitchen? Crazyleochic: The pakoras sound good. Which veggies do you use? Lulee, how do you make Falafel. I tried to make it once and it definitely didn't taste like falafel It was my first attempt today. I followed this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/seans-falafel-and-cucumber-sauce/detail.aspx but I would omit the baking powder because when I fried them bubbles foamed everywhere and the falafel broke down into small pieces. If you have time, I would get the dried garbanzo beans and soak them overnight in warm water.

Our iftar was as follows: Lentil soup Lentil and bulgar wheat kibbeh Mini puff pastry pizzas Aubergines stuffed with minced meat cooked in a tomato sauce Fattoush Vermicelli rice Atayef filled with cream for dessert... but I didn't have any dessert. Feeling really full despite eating only a tiny bit of each. *like* The stuffed aubergines sound delicious.

I love the fresh chicken samosas in the Union Coop in the bakery section. So delicious, but go early since they run out very quickly. They also have vegetarian samosas but haven't tried them. DR1958: We also had Vimto in our house :)

Does anyone know when the Eid specials start showing up on websites. We are thinking of going to Kenya and seems like Air Arabia are the only ones that fly there with the exception of Emirates (but will not fly with them if their ridiculous prices remain that way). Do you know other websites that offer good deals (we are only looking at flights), will be staying with the in-laws. TIA

You should park where the Magic Planet. So that it is the first doors going into the parking lot. Not the Central Gallery and not the Carrefour side. Btw the cinema is on the top floor :) edited by LuLee on 28/07/2011

LuLee - yes that's what I paid the other day, but I didn't have much build up - maybe it would be more if your teeth need more cleaning - DH paid AED 500 for a clean and a filling a few weeks ago... Ok that's good to know he hasn't raised his prices. I believe I went 2+ years ago and remember paying 250.

I've done this with my daughter travelling with her grandfather a month ago. I also wrote a letter and wanted to get it notarized but when I went to the traffic department in Barsha they did not accept it. So I told them the situation and the typist did it himself. The sponser of the child must be present with his/her passport, your mother and daughter's passport. I copied this from my thread: Went to Barsha Traffic Department instead and had the typist write the document. Paid 150aed. Wait an hour and half. I had to revise it 3 times because of the mistakes both in English and Arabic. (You probably have the option to have it in English only, but I think all documents must be in English and Arabic). Then back to the other room where I got a number, man in charge looked through the papers and signed it. Then took another number and paid 85aed to get it stamped. All in all took 3 hours for this little piece of paper. P.S. Get there early, they close at 1pm and reopen from 4-8. Edited to add, I did it this way just in case they asked my father who she was to him, but in the end no one asked. edited by LuLee on 13/07/2011

I went yesterday to SZR, 220 dhs, and no they take your photo same as the driving licence and it took no more than 10 mins, quickest service I have ever been to in dubai!!! went in sat down, got the form, went and paid downstairs, went back up and the card was ready!! no more queues for me :-) did ask about the ID card and she looked at me as if I was stupid so presuming they havent worked that one out yet.. just need your passport and put some makeup on!! always look awful on those photos :-( I am sure thy do it on purpose! they show every blemish, line and black eye bag!...:( I did the same very easy, super fast. Just a hassel that the cashier is downstairs. I took one passport photo I had in my drawer with me and she used that. Didn't have to take a picture.

I have been a member at FF in Media City for the apst 2 years & pay almost AED500 per month so am wondering ho come they are now charging AED360. They say FF in Media City is the Platinum Club & hence the most expensive. I use it as its close to where I live. You are right. I just read my contract and it says "a member may not use a FF club having a status higher than the one they have taken." So I can not use a 'platinum' club unless I upgrade my membership and pay the approproate monthly fee.

If you are paying 360 dirhams/month are you restricted to using one particular club? or can you use all the clubs? I was able to use any fitness centre but preferred the one in Oasis Centre and all the classes were free and 3 personal trainers sessions.

I saw an ad on MCC fitness first where says membership cost as low as 12 AED per day, this means 360 AED per month, obviously there must be some fine printing. You could ask about this when you go. Yes that's what my monthly cost came out to be, although mine was a yearly membership + one month free.

I'm not sure if it's the one they add ginger to it? Maybe not, but that's how my mom makes it (we're not locals) but the coffee does have a similar taste. What about when they come have one of the relatives help you in the kitchen and teach you? I don't think it takes too long. I did that once when my husband's relatives came over and had one of them come into the kitchen to help me make tea lol. No need to panic, I hope your MIL likes it :)

I'm really sorry to hear that you were laid off. Its always a shock and always comes at the worst times. But I have to disagree with mpp_jl. As it is summer, a lot of people will be going on holiday and a lot of companies are hiring temps to cover their staff. Even reception work can pay up to 10,000 dhs a month and of course secretarial pays more. I suggest you get in touch with all the recruitment agencies in Dubai and say you are looking for temp roles and that you are flexible. You will be surprised at how many positions are available. Congratulations on your baby too! xx Sorry out of topic, I like your nickname that's what my DH calls me sometimes hehe.

I was also researching this and I read that it can be done every month if you like since it's a treatment. Like Sabrina said, it should last 2-4 months depending on your hair and how many times you wash it and of course if you are using a sodium chloride free shampoo/conditioner. Keila did you get the treatment done at the Emirates Beauty Lounge? How was the texture of your hair before and how is it now?

This has put the fear of god into me. My third is due in 6 months, 14 months behind my second. My eldest is 5 and was out of a buggy etc by 2 so we've been independent for a long time and are now headed towards babyville central.... I have a 3 year old DD and 1 year DS and we can manage the grocery shopping pretty well. I put DS in the trolley and he loves watching DD pushing the baby trolley. Baby #3 arrives in a couple of months, now that's going to be a little tricky. I'll either leave it to the weekend so hubby can watch the kids or do it when he comes home from work. Or hire a maid :) I think it's pretty manageable. Gong on vacation will be a challenge, plus finding hotels that can allow us all to stay in 1 room.
