Oasis Centre edited to add, was just passing the aisle and saw round stickers without the holes, but there could be some with holes if you look properly. There is so much stuff in there so keep your eyes open. I'm sorry if I got your hopes up. edited by LuLee on 26/06/2011

Yes there is one for ladies in Oasis Centre. I think there's also a section for men but it's separate.

Just got back from Jordan and had a great time. The weather is hot but not humid and definitely cool nights. Since you are only there for a short time, I'd skip Amman and go straight to Jerash to see the Roman sites. They also have a gladiator show which was fun to watch. Of course the Dead Sea is a must. They have the mud in buckets and you just help yourself with it and 'float' in the Dead Sea. Very relaxing. Then you could do Petra which is a 3.5 hour drive from the Dead Sea. Take a good pair of walking shoes. We spent 8 hours in there and did not get half of it done. So much to see plus we had 2 children so lots of breaks and rest. Depending on how many hours/day(s) you want to stay at one place, you could do Wadi Rum and do a Jeep tour or go to Aqaba for some squba diving. Really up to you how you plan your days. Was shocked at the prices, not what I was expecting. Found it to be an expensive country. wow...you saw alot!!! yes its not cheap...but it really is cool to see petra?! Petra was a magnificent place. Just beautiful but very exhausting. We did horseback once we got in and he took us in another route up in the mountains for around 60jod (2 horses). Was lovely to see Petra from the top. Lasted for an hr and half. You can just skip it and walk. But with children it's easier that way. We did a lot except Aqaba, no time. On your way to petra or it could be wadi rum, take the king's highway and you'll see wadi mujib (sp?) they call it the grand canyon of the middle east. So yes lots to do and see. Hope you have a good time whatever you decide.

The weddings I've been to start at least 8:30. My husband's family and I leave the house at around that time and get to the venue at around 9pm and we're about the first ones there. SunDevil: I think that's fine. The boys there will all be in a kandoura.

Slightly silly question, sorry in advance.... At the Karama markets, are the prices marked? I just don't want to ask for the price of things and get silly expat lady price! If I am going to head all the way down there then I want bargains! Or at the least the going rate! well u can definitely bargain on the prices... they are quite fair... :) we end up bargaining more on the meat/fish than the fruit/veggies abby n christina the one you mentioned in shindgah is where?? the one besides fish market? Yes!

we buy ALL our fruit, veggies, fish and meat from the main public markets (Karama or Shindagha)... we can come out with a whole trunk load of goodies for a MAX of 100dhs! most of the stuff there is local produce and plus there are good discounts for bulk buys... the stuff is much fresher... just pay an extra 5-10dhs for a porter and a cart and they will transport all ur buys from the market till ur vehicle... MUCH MUCH MUCH more price effective than the Lulus, Spinneys, Carrefours of the world... i find them even cheaper than union coop and have much more variety too! :) I was there last week (shindagha market) and got 2.5 kilos of the most delicious tomatoes I've ever had for 7 dirhams. A box of mangos and oranges and peaches. Don't know how much exactly as husband paid but really cheap. I shop most of the time at the Union Coop on Wasl Road and in the last year or so, they've been stocking up on some wonderful fruits and vegetables. They also have a small selection organic which I don't buy but seem very reasonable in price. edited by LuLee on 19/06/2011

Oops was thinking of what abaya you should wear for weddings. For everyday wear, yes I would go with something plain with no bling. There are so many beautiful black abayas now with no embroidery or bling. I'm a souk fan, I get mine in the new building in souk naif. I'm pretty sure I saw belly dancing outfits on the 2nd floor of the building (re: to your other thread)

I think you should go all out with the abaya. I'm sure the Saudi women wear the most glamorous abayas and dresses when they attend weddings. Since it's a family member go all out. There are some gorgeous abayas with swarvoski crystals in Abu Hail Centre. Ask for bridal abayas and that will point you in the right direction. Do you have a dress?

My dad (his brother) just got in 2 days ago from the US to try to take him back but my uncle is not having it. Uncle has this fear that someone is out there to kill him. My dad is willing to take him anywhere in the world, but uncle is now saying these doctors want to kill him. He says they'll presribe him medicines that will kill his brain??? I have not spoken to my aunt directly but get her messages from family. I just know she's worried for her kids and the house be taken away from her. He was displaying this behavior in the US and went to a doctor after dad forced him to but like I said before he doesn't trust anyone and thinks the medicine he is given is to kill him. My dad and I just don't know what to do. He's making this really hard for us. We are just trying to help him. 2 other friends from the US arrived 2 days ago and somehow convinced him to see a doctor. So now uncle is willing to see a doctor here. edited to add, Thank you pentel and gemm3210 for the recommendations. The HRI looks like a great place to start. edited by LuLee on 13/06/2011

So after all the hits this thread got, I conclude that NO ONE on this forum has had microdermaberasion or chemical peeling done in Dubai!!! I'm with you on that one. If anyone does go, please report back on here. Was kind of doing some research and wondering if it's safe to do a glycolic peel considering we live in this hot climate? I've forwarded the email to LaPerla and BettyBubbles. I went to an open morning at Biolite and the lady there advised anybody wanting a peel to wait now till the winter as the sun is so strong now if the face does not have 100% sun block on there is a high chance of skin pigmentation. Thank you for that. I did worry about the peel back firing and making my face even worse. Will definitely wait for the winter months. I'm not sure what other facials she provides. Will ask when I get back from vaca.

Hi, we have a big chest freezer at home and freeze our monthly shop. We buy fresh frozen broccoli, cauliflower, carrotts, spinach, berries, celery, courgette and defrost and use as we need. Great for making up baby purees as fast and you dont waste so much. In regards to meat we freeze minced beef and lamb, steaks, sausages, all fish etc Normally will take out in the morning and by dinner time is good to use. We also but the C4 ciabatta as it freezes great and defrost in 5 mins so you always have fresh bread! We also freeze rosemary, garlic, ginger. I do live quite near a supermarket but hate making the trip so we do a monthly shop and weekly buy in fresh milk etc Nutty, do you buy fresh fruit and veggies and then freeze? You are so organized! I always buy the courgettes the light green ones and smaller than the darker ones. They always turn brown after a couple of days. Do they freeze well? I love cooking them but they never last for me. I see many people buying a full bag of them. They must freeze them or cook a bunch of them in those couple of days.

They never show Oprah on Thursday here unfortunately, so, the Finale will be aired on Saturday on MBC4 at 9pm, then they will show the few episodes that we missed on this last season (as since the last few days they jumped a few episodes to catch up with the US airing of the finale with only 1 day difference for the 2 last show before the last one). Cheers ! Aaah yes you right. Forgot about Thursdays. Are you sure it's at 9pm? Oprah was always on 8pm same time as Ellen :)

That was one quick finale. Everything seemed rushed. I do think Lauren should win it. Overall I'm not impressed with this season. A little boring. No contrast what so ever. Hmm not too happy about it. I noticed they cut off David Cook right at the end.
